AN: Alright, here's another one. The prompt for this one was for Kara to be the CEO of either CatCo, L-Corp, or both. This one is Kara as the CEO of CatCo, but more of the journey to get there. James is going to be bashed just a bit in this. Sorry all the James fans, but James is an okay character for me. Honestly I would have liked Winn to have a chance with Kara instead of James but hey...can't have everything. Anywho, the relationship between Cat and Kara is more of a parental/mentor to daughter/student type.

Anyway, on with the story. ~Immortalshark

*Cat's POV*

I was debating on who to pass my empire onto since I was going to be leaving National City to explore other means. And just to have a break and spend time with my son before he goes off on his own. I knew Kara was Supergirl, how could I not? I helped her family during the whole Myriad crisis. Plus, I would know those beautiful blue eyes anywhere. When I first met Kara, I had been surprised that she came with a decent resume to be higher up in the business, but she decided to be my assistant. I found that Kara had a talent that most people don't.

She had been my assistant for three years. I knew that Kara was ready for the position. I mean heck, one year in, Kara was already a popular person in the workplace. I hadn't even noticed that the work that crossed my desk was even marked and corrected before it even hit my desk until I happened to glance up when one of the other workers went up to Kara, handed her a stack of papers. Kara had read it over, corrected it, handed it back. Then two days later and that very paper was on my desk.

It was a great way to work. In fact, when we stayed late, cause Kara had always stayed with me just in case I needed anything, I had begun talking about what was going on in meetings. I took her to my staff meetings and whenever it got off topic, Kara had steered it back to the topic. Basically, she was ready.

It was a day after a new superhero showed up. The tabloids were messy as we needed to save the Tribune. I was going to save it with the new super, Supergirl. My new art director, James Olsen, piped up.

"Maybe her hair is just dirty. You know, from the exhaust and soot." he said.

"Hmm, good observation Jamie, now back to work people. I want this girl. Chop chop." I said.

The people dispersed and I looked at Kara. I had a feeling she was special and she was the one to save the plane from the way she looked offended at the name Supergirl. When I got the interview with Supergirl, I knew it. I didn't spend hours on end over the years with my assistant to not recognize her eye color or speech patterns. She had the most beautiful blue eyes that anyone has ever seen. I knew it was her.

I said her name whispered, not enough for the recorder to pick up, but enough for her to hear. She had a twinkle in her eye. The next few weeks Kara was still performing her job well. She started small and got better with her rescues. Then it came to the fact that I could be removed from my position as CEO of CatCo. Kara was with me during the board meeting, standing by me.

I knew Kara was a smart person. You had to be in order to keep up with my 'demands'. It just wasn't up until the attempted take over/hacking that I realized just how good Kara was

"So far nobody's made any demands, which leads us to think that whoever did this simply wanted to embarrass you." my lawyer said.

I waved them off after thinking about suing everyone who was publishing the emails. I turned to Kara who was still in the room.

"Keira, I want you to schedule a meeting with the board. And while you're at it, I want you to go through all my emails and find anything that could be used against me. I want to know before the whole world does." I told her.

"Yes Ms. Grant." Kara said.

With that she left. She scheduled the meeting and then sat down at her desk. I realized just how good with computers and other means Kara was as I watched as she combed through my emails and pinned any that could be used against me. The ones between Lois and I were in jest, both of us had a respect for the other and just loved to push the others buttons because we knew that no one else would challenge us.

I walked into that room ready to face whatever it was, "In some circles it's a badge of honor. It was bound to happen to one of us eventually, and in a way, thank god it was me."

"This hack is painting a rather unflattering picture of you Cat." Kathy said.

"You don't build a company like CatCo by being a wallflower and not having an opinion and a strong point of view." I said.

"Yes but the devil's advocate here…" Mark tried.

"I...uh...I agree with Cat. I think we should follow her lead on this." Dirk said.

"Oh thank you Dirk. And ahem, about that one email…" I said

"The one where you said I was the walking personification of white male privilege?" Dirk questioned.

"Mmm." I chuckled, "Well obviously you're more of an ally than I thought."

"Maybe you could take a sabbatical. Put some distance between you and the company?" Kathy suggested.

"My company you mean?" I retorted, reminding her that CatCo is MY company.

"I don't think at this point that's necessary. I mean, if there is a smoking gun, the press is yet to find it. Maybe they never will. No, I, uh, trust Cat's judgement. Besides, if uh, well if things get too hot, I'm sure that you'll be the first one to step away. Right Cat?" Dirk said.

I didn't answer right away, then I decided to see how things played out. "Absolutely…" I left my answer hanging, leaving one to think if my answer was final.

I noticed that Kara was in the room, not at all noticeable. I saw that she had a notepad that I realized was her taking notes throughout the meeting, it was just during certain times though. I thought about it as I went through and I realized that she was taking notes on whatever three specific people were talking. Dirk, Kathy, and Mark. Kara had picked up on something that I couldn't. After the meeting was done, I was walking towards my office. Kara was walking with me.

"They all smell blood in the water. Keep going through my emails. No stone unturned. Whatever the press turns up, Dirk Armstrong is going to pounce all over it. He's as two faced as they come." I told her.

Kara nodded and she turned her head as if she could hear something I couldn't. I watched as a smirk came across her face.

"Oh my gosh." I heard her say.

"What?" I asked.

"What if the hack was from someone in Catco?" Kara said.

"Find me proof." I told her, and whoever it was would end up in jail.

She nodded and she was off.

*Kara's POV*

I had a gut feeling about Dirk and I've learned to trust my gut feeling. Thank Rao I did cause I tuned my hearing into Dirk"s conversation with two other members of the board.

"Oh we have opened the floodgates and the press is gonna do the rest. I think she'll be out by the end of the week." he said.

I had my suspicions. So he's gonna be the first one I'm going to check. I had a small almost unnoticeable bug that one wouldn't notice if they weren't looking for it. I had a few hours before Dirk arrived back in his office, so I headed there, placed the bug in the computer and was out of there before he was back.

I got a ping from my watch alerting me to the fact that all of Dirk's files were copied and transferred to the laptop I use for work. I smirked as I combed through his stuff and found the email that he was conspiring against Cat. Now all I need is a legal standpoint to get this verified, then I'm golden, and I know just the person to do so.

*Cat's POV*

I was getting ready to have Kara schedule the press conference to let people know that I was going to step down, when Kara came running around the corner.

"Ms. Grant. Look at this." she said.

I looked to see that it was an email from Dirk to a few other people and how he planned to get me out of the way since he would be the one to get CatCo.

"You launched this investigation of Dirk because?" I asked.

"Well, during the meeting, Dirk and the other two, Kathy and Mark, were the only ones pressing for you to step down. After you answered Dirk's question of being the first person to step down if things got rough, he smirked, as if he was waiting for that answer. Then your comment about him being two faced got me thinking. I just so happened to catch a tail wind of a conversation of his with Kathy and Mark that he had planned for this to happen. And it also happened that the computer Dirk wrote the email on was paid for by CatCo, using an email that was sent using an email account linked to Catco regarding CatCo business. So technically, that means his emails are CatCo's property. Legally, they belong to you." Kara said with a smug smirk on her face.

It was her actions in that situation that led me to believe that she would be a great person to inherit my company. Now, I was already planning on giving it to her with James as a runner up, but Kara's actions during the attempted take over that sealed the deal. So I called her in.

"Keira!" I yelled.

And like clockwork, there she was, smiling at me without a care in the world.

"Yes Ms. Grant." she said.

"Oh, I think you've earned the right to call me Cat." I said with a smirk.

She smiled, "Okay then, Cat. What did you need me for?"

I then smiled at her, "Well, Kara.." she straightened up, "I was thinking about taking a bit of a sabbatical, travel with Carter and take him places. I am in need of someone who can take over while I'm gone."

Kara had a shocked look on her face, she pointed to herself, "And I assume you want me to take over?"

I nodded as she had caught on quick. Her shock faded into a small, content smile.

"Of course Cat. I'll make you proud." Kara said.

I felt a well of pride rise up at those words. I let a smile, a true smile show, "I know you will. I already am proud of you."

Kara's eyes welled in tears but she didn't let them drop. I let her hug me, and it felt nice. I had Kara call a meeting in the next couple of weeks after telling her that I was handing my company to her. I was going to tell all the heads of the departments of the change of leadership and ownership. Most of them had smiles on their faces, so I knew they were okay with it, all except James.

The others all left after the meeting was over. I watched them as they passed by Kara and gave her an encouraging and welcoming smile. James had remained in the office and he closed the door. I wasn't that nervous, after all, Kara was standing just outside the door.

"Cat, why Kara? Why not me? I could handle it." James asked as if he couldn't believe that I didn't pick him over Kara.

"Kara has been my assistant for damn near four years now. She knows the inner workings of this company better than you ever will. Hell, she's been scheduling my entire day and working with a majority of the people who work here. Don't think I don't know about the nickname she gained around the office. She's called that for a reason and I don't think the reason is because they don't like her. She's got some great connections." I said.

"I have good connections too. I've got people who like me." James said as he pouted.

"Yes yes, the man in blue." I drawled, "Any other connections?"

And James went silent. I just smirked.

"You'll just have to deal with it." I said.

I returned to my work as a sign of the conversation being done. He didn't get the hint.

"I mean, Kara's great and all, but don't you think she's a little naive about some people? Heck, I'm older than her." James said.

I looked up at him and glared. "Kara, has a talent that has yet to bloom. I have seen the things she can do, her resume, things she can do but forgot to put into her resume," with that comment I looked to Kara through the window and she had an unapologetic smirk on her face, "All I see from you is a man who can't take no for an answer, or doesn't like having things not go his way."

James looked angry before he sighed and walked out the door. When he left, Kara came in. She poured me a glass of scotch. Before she handed it to me though, she did something. She took out another drink and another glass. She put the scotch into a tumbler with the other drink. She shook it. When that was done, she blew into her hands and in her hands was a chunk of ice that she made into a sphere. She placed it into the unused glass and poured the liquid in the tumbler into the glass with the ice. She handed it to me.

I sipped on it and it was amazing. It had the ending flavor of butterscotch, one of my favorite flavors.

"I guess he wasn't happy that I was going to be taking your spot?" Kara asked.

I shook my head, "Nope, plus he doesn't have any impressive connections. Sure he's got Superman on speed dial but other than him? Compared to you knowing Diana Prince, Bruce Wayne and the Bat crew, Aquaman and his crew, and the Green Lantern. Plus some other people like a general in almost all the branches of service, Oliver Queen, and Ray Palmer? You've got some serious reach. An added bonus is that you know the inner workings of this place. How could you not when you've been working here for damn near four years?"

Kara blushed but she laughed, "True. Who would have thought that fateful encounter five years ago would lead me to this? I still remember running into you out on the streets. I had found Carter wandering around, lost, and helping him find you."

I smiled at her, of course she remembers Carter. She had taken care of him when no one else could, and even got him to open up. They had a connection that I hadn't seen with anyone else. And so in a month's time, Kara would be the new CEO of CatCo. In that time, Kara had gained more confidence, she was still kind but firm. James had a problem and Kara blew up at him when she found out the truth. The truth that James was only there to keep an eye on her for her cousin. Now that was a messy time and a story for another time.

AN: Who wants to see the blow up between James and Kara? If you do, give me some suggestions of a scene between Seasons 1 and 2 of the show and the episode number. I have seen some parts of Seasons 3 and 4, but not Season 5 yet. I plan on having any dealings between Lena Luthor and the Supergang be somewhere in the seasons I know, or at least be friendlier, which means no William. I don't really see Kara with William. Not that he's a bad dude, but I just feel that Kara has more chemistry with others in the show.

Anyway, what did you think of this chapter? I couldn't think of a way to have Kara be a CEO without a major character down for a time so I thought hey why not show a way that could lead Cat to decide that Kara's better than James? I'm also thinking of a fic of where Kara and crew just annihilating Mon-El. Not in a bad way, but a way that makes him see reason. That and one where Kara finds out where Jeremiah is from S2E14.
