AN: For those who like James, this one-shot is not for you since this one-shot portrays James in a bad light. For me, the story could have gone on without James and Kara would have had much more confidence. In this one, Kara knew that James didn't get the infamous Alex seal of approval and so didn't even try to date him.
Anyways, here's a Kara knows James' bullcrap and tolerates it up until she found someone that could actually make something stick in his head. Enjoy:) ~Immortalshark
*Alex's POV*
I knew something was fishy about James. He wasn't here at all before Kara came out and saved my plane. Of course, I am very happy that I'm alive...thank you Kara, love ya sis...but after she saved the plane all of a sudden here he is? He triggered my overprotective mama bear sister instincts but I never gave him the talk. The talk that everyone of Kara's love interests gets. James wasn't worth the effort, as proven when he flirts with Kara making her believe that there's something there, and then Lucy comes in and he gets back with her.
It wasn't until Kara came home after the whole thing with Red K in a slump that I realized that James didn't like the darker side of Kara's personality. My little sister has been through so much in her life that it's amazing that she can even get up and smile most days. I knew she has days where she fakes being happy and pushes through the day, just to go home and just relax and be herself. I know that because on those days, she's in my arms snuggled close and curled up in my lap. I don't mind because I love taking care of Kara. She knows that she's allowed to talk to me and she's comfortable with it. I talk with her too since she was the very first person I came out to. She's so supportive of me and I love her. James doesn't deserve my little sister.
*Winn's POV*
I was Kara's friend first. I know, I know, it's not something I brag about, but it was annoying how after Kara came out as Supergirl, that James showed up. Like he wasn't there at all for the two years before, and then suddenly here he is trying to 'protect' Kara. I was a little suspicious of him, not gonna lie. I had a crush on Kara, but I respected her boundaries after she told me that she didn't see me like that. Did it hurt? Yes. Am I gonna get mad at her for not being interested in me? No.
When Kara decided to bring both of us in on her escapades, I could see the distrust in James' eyes that I knew Kara's secret, as if I wasn't supposed to know. As if it was in his power for Kara to not tell people HE doesn't trust. I knew that James was here for a reason, a reason that seemed very fishy. It wasn't until Reactron showed up after the interview Kara did with Cat that James called in Superman to 'handle things'. We were in her loft, waiting for her to wake up. She did of course and she turned to James.
"You...you called him?" she asked, I could hear the hurt in her voice.
James had this puppy dog pout that said that he didn't want to press it but he did anyway. "He gave me this in case of emergencies."
Kara leveled a glare at him, "You promised that you wouldn't call him. My fights should be just that. MINE. Not his."
James held a wounded look as if it hurt that Kara was mad at him for doing something he shouldn't have done in the first place. It got me mad cause Kara could handle herself.
"James. I think you should leave." I said.
James looked at me with shock in his eyes, "Why?"
Ooh the nerve. Kara stood up and she had a look in her eye. She wasn't looking at James she was staring out at the city.
"James. Leave." Kara said in a firm 'i'm not gonna take no for an answer' tone.
James just put his hands up and left. Kara, being the ray of sunshine that she is, welcomed him back. I watched as she tried to make the relationship work but it was after the Red K incident that James got skittish. I could see that Kara was more closed off after that, as if she didn't want to hurt anybody else. I stayed with her of course, I understood that underneath Kara's sunny disposition is a darker, jaded, person. Someone who has had seen to many people they grew close to just to be ripped away. Of course who wouldn't be after all, we don't know if Kara had seen her planet blow up. We don't know if Kara had seen the implosion with her own eyes. All that we know, is that Kara would be changed after being sent to an unknown planet filled with unknown beings to take care of her baby cousin and when she arrived, she was shipped off to another family.
When Barry arrived, he clicked with Kara. Both were sunny, smart, and had similar interests. Of course he'd click with Sunny D. It was obvious that Barry liked Kara as a friend. He helped her get out of her funk, she had finally smiled genuinely again.
James however, got jealous. It was freaking annoying! Like really dude, you act all skittish around her cause you can't handle the bad days that Kara has, but as soon as someone else makes her smile and her sunny personality that hides the sadness, all of a sudden he's interested and protective. It was obvious that Barry liked someone else and Kara is sisterly feelings. Honestly, it was harder to not like Kara. Heck, even Cat Grant liked Kara even though she doesn't show it.
It wasn't up until James got slotted for the CEO gig before leadership was handed to Lena Luthor, that James was 'threatening'. I stopped by CatCo every once in a while nowadays since I work for the DEO, but one of the times I stopped by, a meeting was going on and James was doing something and trying to work the meeting in a direction that was obviously wasn't going to work. Kara, who put a stop to his blubbering, stepped up and took over the meeting with an ease that would normally be seen with her Supergirl persona. I saw it in James' eyes that he didn't like that. He didn't like that Kara took over the meeting like that, as if she directed it in a direction that HE didn't WANT it to go.
*Lena's POV*
I don't know why everyone keeps underestimating my knowledge. I knew who Clark Kent is and his superhero persona. Why the hell wouldn't I? Lex ranted about how he absolutely despised Kryptonians and Superman the most and how his 'best friend' didn't tell him a secret that was kept for a reason. I knew Clark Kent is Superman.
When Clark Kent came into my office, I was expecting him due to the failed Venture launch that was stopped by both Supers. I was not however, expecting the bubbly, shy, ray of sunshine to come walking in right behind him. I put two and two together and figured that this woman was the cousin.
"And who are you?" I asked her.
"Kara. Kara Danvers." she said as she held her hand out.
I smirked at her and shook her hand. "Nice to meet you."
She smirked back. I handed Kara the flash drive cause she knows how to talk to someone. There's just something about her that just draws you in. I made a comment about how she should be a reporter before she left. And lo and behold, three weeks later, she's in my office again wanting a statement from me about the Alien Amnesty Act.
"I can have you're parking pass validated for you." I said.
"Oh no. I flew here...on...on a bus." she said.
I had to hold back the chuckle at her poor attempt to cover herself, but something gave me away and she just smirked.
"You know who I am don't you." she asked with a smirk.
"I do. Though honestly, if I wanted to out you and your cousin, I would have done it by now." I said.
She beamed. And so, that began our wonderful friendship. I bought CatCo, one of the main reasons was Kara, and two to not let Morgan Edge have it. Kara was happy about it, but James was not. Since I knew that Kara is Supergirl, I had let her know that I had a very very small stash of Kryptonite that was locked away in a place that only I knew since it was in a mix of languages. One word was in Irish Gaelic and the next would be French, then to German, then to the Asian scripts. And it was biolocked to me only. Kara knew and she was a little skittish but she was fine after I had told her. It was natural that she was wary of me having Kryptonite, but I knew she trusted me. Heck it was the biggest show of trust when she didn't do anything about it, saying that since I hadn't used it against her or her cousin I was cool.
It was after I got jailed for something I didn't do and then set free since Kara cleared my name, that James showed up. He was as subtle as a bull in a china shop trying to search the place for any places that might hold kryptonite.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Searching for something that Supergirl wanted me to." James said.
Checkmate. Kara had warned me that once people knew that I held Kryptonite that some people would come after me. I knew Kara didn't send him since she herself knew that I wasn't going to do anything with it. I could see through his bullshit. It was almost painful to see how badly he does. Kara was smarter than people gave her credit for and those she's close with she knows their voices, their heartbeats. So when Guardian popped up, Kara knew it was James.
I watched that debacle as Kara tried to tell James that he was inexperienced and that he was going to get himself killed. He threw a tantrum saying that Kara didn't trust him and that he knows what he's doing. I saw the relationship between Winn and Kara and I could figure out that Winn was with James just to make sure he doesn't get too hurt, or worse.
Kara put up with a lot of bullshit from him, but it wasn't until James had tried to limit what Kara's stories were on that I stepped in. James was the head of CatCo when I wasn't there, but he has used it for too long. He got comfortable. Heck, Cat freaking Grant, called me on my phone to personally find someone else to run CatCo or else she's going to come herself to give James a beating. I had the perfect person in mind too.
I decided to sit in on a meeting that way, James wouldn't know that I was going to be in attendance. I also decided to dress in a way that no one expected me too. A pair of slacks, heels, a blue shirt and a pull over that I kept from when Kara put it over me to keep me warm.
I watched James attempt to steer the conversation in a direction that was about Guardian and other related issues instead of the issues that was going on with CatCo. The stocks were down and he wasn't doing anything about it. Then Kara came in. Hooo was that a sight to see. It was obvious that the others were used to Kara taking over the meeting.
"Alright, Pam, what's the rates look like?" Kara asked as she steamrolled over James' pitiful attempts to keep the other's attention.
"Not good. We need to change things up. The types of stories are getting old. Some people see the front of the paper and don't read the rest because the front page is the same thing." Pam said.
"Okay then send some people out to see what others think. Those that have been subscribed for years and see what they think." Kara said then she turned to someone else,"Dave, what's the stocks look like?"
"Down. Almost as bad as the Tribune." Dave said.
"Find a way to get it back up." Kara said and she turned to her own boss, "Snapper, any chances we could get people who would do stories about the families in the hospitals and how that's going on? Revealing the true states of some people. Uncovering abuse cases and bosses who take advantage of their workers."
"Ponytail. You know my…" Snapper started.
"Oh hush, he's the stand in for the CEO. Not the actual CEO. You can't get fired from him, though you can get fired from Lena." Kara said.
Snapper smirked.
I looked at James who had a poorly disguised sneer on his face. Obviously he didn't like Kara butting in. Kara took the meeting and made it into one that was productive. She actually made suggestions that the heads could do to make their departments run more efficiently and smoothly.
James then stood up, "Kara...I was in the middle of talking." he said, with a firm tone.
Kara turned to him and stared at him, "And where was it going? You have no idea what the stocks look like do you?"
James glared at her, "People are buying the papers. Who gives a crap about what's on them?"
Kara stared at him with a calm look, "You apparently."
I could hear someone almost snort. I turned to see Snapper with a highly amused glint in his eye.
"Kara, I'm the one in charge. Now, how's the turn around for this weeks issue?" James asked as if he was done with Kara.
"We put out a premium and it got very low ratings." Pam said.
Kara frowned, "Any reason why?" she asked.
"Kara. I'm in control now." James said.
Kara just glared at him, "You realize that you are basically the guy who signs the legal documents right? Everything else is up to the departments."
James retorted something that made Kara tense. Before anything happened, I stood up. James leveled a glare at me.
"And you aren't going anywhere. This meeting isn't over yet." he said.
I leveled a cool gaze at him, one that was easily recognizable. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Kara's smug smirk. I saw her do a pay up motion with her hand towards Pam. Pam looked annoyed but smirked as she handed Kara something.
"Oh I do believe this meeting was long over. Since it covered everything it should." I said.
James' face contorted in anger, "Oh? Well it's not. Who's the one in charge of this meeting? Me. So sit your ass back down."
I leveled a glare at him now, "Well you are getting demoted into the printers." I said.
"What? You can't tell me what to do lady." James said.
"Oh I think I can since I'm the one with the ability to fire you." I said coldly.
I saw the rest of the people filing out with Kara urging them to go. I saw her say something to them that had them all smiling and they were off with no problem. James looked ready to yell.
"Cat put me in charge of this place. Not you. Me. And I can do what I want." James said as he tried to be intimidating.
"I did and that was obviously a mistake." a voice said.
I turned to see Cat Grant herself standing in the doorway. Kara had a smirk on her face. I heard a squeak from James.
"You know, I only put you in charge because of your connection with some people. However, it's come to my attention that someone else has far more connections than you do. So I hereby declare that there's going to be a change in leadership. Kara Danvers, you are now the acting CEO. Of course, Lena Luthor owns CatCo and thus the CEO, but you will be in charge when she is unavailable or attending to L-Corp." Cat said.
I smirked at her. She had a confident look in her beautiful blue eyes.
"Don't disappoint me Keira." Cat said.
I saw the amused look in both blondes.
"Yes Ms. Grant." Kara said.
Cat turned to James, "And you, Jimmy," Cat glared, "You are either going to accept that Kara is now under Lena or pack your bags and head back to Metropolis."
James glared at Cat, "you can't do that anymore Cat. You aren't in charge. You gave up this place."
Kara growled, yes growled, at James. I saw Cat look at her in shock.
"James," she said real sweet, "Don't tell me that all of this was your way of trying to obtain something that was far out of your reach."
"I was named the CEO when she stepped down." James said.
"Oh? Then you didn't come here to lets say...protect me? The secret that some find out just because my cousin told you to? Lucy broke up with you because you were too wrapped up in my cousins cape that she felt that she was just a trophy. My cousin got her older sister, so why not bag her little sister too. You say you want to protect us, and you tried to manipulate Lena and get on her good side so that she'll tell you where she's hiding the big bad stuff that could kill both me and Kal. Yet, you dated and still have the hots for, one of the daughters of one of the most bigoted men and walking personification of white male privilege that I have ever met. You can see past Lucy's last name. That Lucy and Lois aren't their anti-alien father. A father that is actively involved in the experimentations of aliens. Yet the last name Luthor pins all crimes of the family onto all members. It doesn't matter who did it so long as you have the last name of Luthor, you're automatically a villain. Let's not forget how you attempted to get on my good side. You tried to get me to like you. You tried to get me to be into you but that didn't happen. You tried to not let people find out about my secret, yet it isn't your secret to share. My secrets are mine to share with whom ever I wish. You were told without my knowledge."
Damn. Kara's got some fire.
"Oh, let's not forget that you apparently can't handle my darker side. I threw Cat off the fortieth floor of this very building and she found it in her to forgive me and help me deal with it. You however, you grew skittish. And as soon as Barry came along, and I found that I liked him, you get all huffy that he was stealing my attention. All that said to me was you can't handle my baggage. You want to know the reason why I wasn't interested in you?" Kara said.
"Why?" James had the gall to ask.
I looked at Cat to see a proud look in her eye.
"Alex didn't deign herself to give you her infamous shovel talk." Kara said with a proud tone in her voice.
Ah man...so that means I'll be getting that talk. Crap.
"Shovel talk? What shovel talk?" James asked.
Kara smirked, "I'm not telling you. Alex deemed you unworthy of the experience. You don't get to know."
"James, you are on a two week probationary period. Either you fix what ever the flying frack you are in right now or you can find yourself back at the Daily Planet." I said.
"And why do you get that choice?" he asked.
I turned to Kara and Cat to see almost identical blank looks on their faces.
Cat turned to Kara, "You weren't kidding. I regret making him my successor. You should have been. Heck I was grooming you for it."
Kara just smiled, "Well, I had other obligations as I'm sure you know."
Cat smirked, "Oh I know. I'm sure you would have managed just fine."
James just looked confused, "And I'm missing something."
"Come on for a vigilante you sure are blind." Cat said.
James just gawked.
"Oh please, I can see your eyes. And really? The gravely voice gives you away." Cat said snidely. "You obviously can't tell that Lena Luthor is standing right here."
He looked at me. I could see the realization set in and he paled.
*Third Person POV*
And so, Winn ditched James for work as he was given an ultimatum, drive around as the backup or lose his job. Kara, saved James from a close call, picked him up and dropped him off at his van for him to tend to himself. Lena, Cat, and Kara joined forces and Cat was once again the owner of CatCo, just that Lena and Kara were running it now. Whenever Lena was unavailable, Kara took over both companies surprisingly well. Maggie and Alex were together still, but Kelly came into the mix during the whole shebang with Reign, but Kara took care of her with some struggles, but eventually came out on top. James however, he tried once more to take back what was 'his' but got fired by Lena and sent packing by Kara, back to Metropolis.
AN: And that's a wrap. This one ended up being a James from different people's perspectives besides Kara's since we all know Kara's view on James. It wasn't until Lena that Kara had the fire to come back at James. She knew of his attempts and didn't even try with him. In fact, in Kara's mind, those who don't get the Alex seal of approval aren't worth going after. Lena is different since Kara had actually tried to sway Alex to like Lena and Alex being Alex, gave Lena the benefit of the doubt and found what Kara saw in Lena and of course gained the seal of approval. Just...she was waiting for the right moment to give it to her. The Alex seal of approval means that Alex has deigned herself to threaten Kara's love interest by means of actual threats.
Of course, Maggie got the Kara seal of approval, by Kara threatening to throw Maggie to the moon :)
School is in swing and track is six days a week. Hope you liked this little one-shot on how others picture James.
