*Alex's POV*
I went after this weird alien. It was an unregistered alien in the database so we had no idea how to detain it. I was back and Kara was off to the side looking irritated.
"You went after it without me?" Kara demanded.
It was a trying day. It ended with me and my team being drenched in this weird slime stuff after a nasty scuffle. I was tired, sore, hurt, and frankly put out that Kara would choose now to throw a fit about being left out of an operation.
"Yes we went without you. We had a solid tip and had to act fast. And I know what you're going to say next but we can't always wait for you to join the party." I said.
"It was dangerous!" Kara said.
"A calculated risk," I answered, internally patting myself on the back for answering evenly, "One every person in this building has been trained to take barring Winn."
"You weren't even sure what it was!" Kara said.
"We've done this before. We knew the risks. There was really nothing you could have done Kara." I said.
"You still should have waited...dummy." Kara muttered.
I glared at her, "Supergirl, conference room." I ground out.
"Alex, I didn't mean…" Kara said.
"It was not a request." I retorted, completely done with Kara's behavior and stormed towards the conference room, leaving her no choice but to follow.
I waited for her, arms crossed and rigid. I had to call on every lesson I learned about keeping my bearing because I've never really admonished my little sister.
"Close the door." I said as Kara came in.
She was looking down and stayed near the door.
"Lexie…" she started.
"No. You don't talk right now," I cut her off with an authoritative tone, "I am trying...I am trying so hard right now to find a balance Kara."
I dropped my arms and leaned on the large table.
"You are my sister and I love you. More than anything." I said and straightened up to look Kara in the eye, "but in this base, in the field, you are an operative of the DEO and I am your commanding officer and you will show me the proper respect Kara."
This time Kara did interrupt, "I know. I know that Lexie but…"
I had to, "Agent Danvers." I said.
"What?" she said as she drew up short.
"From now on you will address me as Agent Danvers or ma'am when we are in the DEO. There is a hierarchy here, Supergirl and you need to start acknowledging it." I said.
Her body tensed as she straightened up. She wasn't looking at me.
"If you can't start following orders, I will have to personally keep you out of the field. You can't keep questioning my orders here or in the field. I won't have you undermining me in front of my agents. A lot has changed since I joined the DEO but what hasn't changed is the fact that those agents out there need to respect me, need to trust my decisions and they can't do that if you're constantly bucking the system." I said.
Something in Kara changed.
"I'm not trying to hurt your feelings. You know everything I have done up until this point has been to protect you, and I will continue to do that. You have to meet me halfway. I am responsible for a lot of lives and I can't protect them if I'm always trying to figure out what you're going to do next." I said.
I stepped around the conference table, stopping in front of her. I knew this conversation wouldn't go over well but it couldn't be put off any longer. I moved my arm, the one the alien managed to snag, to try and get Kara to look at me. She jerked away and that hurt.
"Kara, look at me." I said softly and waited for her to meet my eyes, "I love you, with all that I am but things need to change; we need to change. Now we are going to go back out there and do our damned jobs and when that alien shows up again, we will take it down together, but only if you follow my lead. No more showboating, going off book, and no more crashing hostage negotiations with Supergirl shaped holes understood?"
Kara didn't answer. I stepped a little bit closer to her and touched her shoulder. Her eyes jerked up to me.
"When you faced it, did it shoot a liquid substance at you?" Kara asked.
"Faced what? What are you talking about?" I asked.
"The alien. Did it fire a liquid substance at you?" Kara asked again.
"Yes." I said confused as to where Kara was going with this.
"Did any of it land on you? Did it cut you?" Kara asked.
"Where are you going with this Kara?" I asked wondering where she was going.
"Answer the question Agent Danvers!" Kara raised her voice in a tone that has never been directed at me before.
"Yes. To both questions." I said.
Kara cursed in Kryptonian before looking at me, "Your lab. Now." she said.
"Why? It's just some liquid. I spent an hour in the shower washing it off." I said ignoring the little pins and needles feeling that was starting in my hands.
"Lab. Now!" Kara growled.
I jumped. Kara never ever used that tone. So I followed her to m lab. I was acutely aware that all eyes were on me but I ignored them. J'onn looked concerned and followed. As soon as I was in my lab, Kara closed the doors and drew the blinds. She cleared off my table that I had in the middle.
"What's going on?" J'onn asked.
"Sit." Kara addressed me.
I sat on the table, uncertain of what Kara was doing.
"Did any of that liquid get into the cut?" Kara asked.
"Yes. It stung a bit but nothing I can't handle." I said.
Kara growled, "Describe what it looked like."
I did. I had a feeling that she would want the full details so I gave them to her. Her eyes widened.
"J'onn, did any of the others on that team get hit by that goo?" Kara asked as she grabbed needles.
"Yes, why?" J'onn asked.
"They were hit by a J'knuk" Kara said.
J'onn's eyes widened in shock, "They're here? I thought they were extinct?!"
"No, they aren't. Somehow the bastards managed to survive. Escaped to a different planet." Kara said. "Luckily, I have the serum to counter their effects."
J'onn stared at Kara, "You, you were involved weren't you? You were the youngest general Krypton ever had weren't you."
Kara nodded, "Yes."
J'onn's eyes widened and he left the room. I moved to try and sit up.
"Stay down Alex." Kara said.
She started to unbutton my shirt. I protested by trying to sit up, not liking how Kara wasn't saying anything. Kara pushed me back down and glared.
"I said stay down Alexandra." Kara said firmly.
I froze. Kara's never ever used my full first name. She's always called me Alex. She only ever used it the one time she was mad at me. I stayed down. She stripped me of my top. I felt her run her hands over my torso.
"Where'd it hit you?" she asked.
I pointed at it. She ran her hands over the spot and put pressure on it.
"Ow. Kara!" I said as it hurt a little.
Kara growled a little, "Damn. It's working faster than it would normally."
"J'onn! You need to counter it immediately! It's moving faster than usual!" Kara shouted.
I wiggled my fingers but I couldn't feel them.
"Kara, I can't feel my fingers." I said.
Kara cursed before filling a needle with about fifty milligrams.
"What is that?" I asked.
"Counter toxin." Kara said shortly before sticking me with it. "You were exposed to a very lethal toxin."
I started to gain feeling back in my hands. Kara put the needle away.
"Do you have some of the liquid?" Kara asked.
I nodded and pointed to my dirty clothes. She grabbed a vial and put the goo in it. She looked at it and tensed.
"I haven't seen this since…" Kara muttered.
Her eyes grew cold and distant as she placed a hand to her ear.
"Jax, I need you to find a J'knuk. They're here." Kara said.
I was stunned, Kara never sounded this cold. I watched as surprise came over her face.
"You found them?" Kara said.
I was honestly confused. She moved towards the table and put her hands down.
"Good, find their escape routes. Cut them off." Kara said.
She tensed.
"Well, that makes it a little more difficult now doesn't it. I will find them." Kara said.
Kara cut off whoever she was talking to. She placed a hand on the table and muttered something in Kryptonian. I watched as the table changed into a screen and a floor plan was on it. I looked to see what floor plan it was for, Mercury Labs. Red dots appeared all over the place and soon yellow and green dots appeared. She cursed before a sly smirk appeared on her face.
"Let's see how my little spy is doing." Kara muttered as the floor plan shrunk and video footage appeared.
I saw the alien and moved to go after it. I tried to open the door but the door was locked. I looked back to Kara to see that she had locked the door.
"I'm sorry, I can't let you do that Agent Danvers. If you do, you're jeopardizing a very delicate situation." Kara said.
Finally, I realized who was standing in front of me. This wasn't Kara Danvers my little sister, nor was it Supergirl the beacon of hope. This was Kara Zor-El, the girl whose past is still a big mystery to me. The table went back to normal before she seemed to vanish. The doors were unlocked but she was nowhere to be found. It wasn't until I got a call from mom saying that dad had been found a month later. That dad was dad and not controlled by Cadmus. Kara was the one to take me up to Midvale and see him. I finally found out that what Kara was doing was finding my dad and she did. My family, my entire family, was back and it was thanks to Kara.
AN: Hey guys. Sorry for the late update to this story. School work has been murder lately so I haven't had much time to upload my stories.
Anyway, what do you think? And yes I made up the alien. I have an idea coming for an alternate 1x16 ending so look for that. It should come out soon but I don't know with the amount of work I have.
Peace ~Immortalshark
