welcome back to another work in progress!
this one was thought up after watching the pirates of the Caribbean movies, dealing with Time travel and was intended to be a Harry/hermione pairing had I ever gotten past this one chapter
hope you all enjoy!
"Lily! Its him! Take Harry and run!"
Lily Potter ran up the stairs towards Harry's nursery, the crying babe securely in her arms, she paused for only a moment when their front door was blown off its hinges, all she heard after that was frantic spell casting from her husband as she ran into the nursery and slammed the door.
A few moments later the house was quiet, Lily clutched her baby to her chest as she heard heavy footsteps come up the stairs, "James?" She whispered hoarsely.
"No." A new voice said coldly as the door was destroyed, revealing the dark visage of Lord Voldemort.
Lily quickly pulled her wand, leveling it at the Dark Lord who simply laughed at her, "stand aside you foolish girl. I'm only here for the baby."
"Not Harry! Please not Harry!"
"Stand aside!"
"No!" Lily began casting several non verbal spells, with the mind to stall him until Sirius and the rest of the order could get there.
Voldemort gave a mocking laugh and batted the spells to the side "Avada kedavra!"
Lily attempted to turn her body to shield Harry, but it was too late, the spell connected with the boy.
And an explosion ripped through the room, Lily, not knowing what was happening, attempted to aparate as something pierced her side. She disappeared with a loud pop, with no idea that the dark lord was no more.

Captain Hector Barbossa watched the sea with a twinkle in his eyes, behind him, his crew worked diligently to keep their ship on course, "four degrees to Port Mr. Blanche!" He called to his first mate, a large Irish man with long red hair tied back with a black ribbon.
"Aye captain!" The man called.
"ANYTHING ON THE HORIZON MR. FILLMORE!?" Barbossa called up to the man in the crows nest.
"NOTHIN BUT THE SEA CAPTAIN, I-wait...what is tha...holy mother-WE HAVE A BODY IN THE WATER CAPTAIN! STARBOARD SIDE! MAN OVERBOARD!"
instantly everyone on the deck ran to the starboard side, searching the water until they spied a panel or debris upon which a figure was laid curled up. "Give me a rope!" Barbossa commanded, walking to the railing of the ship as a long sturdy rope was put in his hand, without any hesitance he immediately jumped from the railing, swinging down to the figure as they began to slip from the debris, Barbossa quickly grabbed onto them-a female, he noticed- and began to haul them up, "hang on there lass." He said gruffly.
"Cant...no...not him...Harry…" the woman mumbled deliriously, clutching a squirming bundle in her arms.
Barbossas eyes widened, "by god...HAUL US UP!" He shouted up, "NOW!"
instantly the crew began to haul them up, Barbossa kept a firm grip on the woman as his crew helped them on deck.
"Someone fetch our good Doctor!" Barbossa commanded as he carefully laid the woman down on the deck, pulling his coat off to place over her, he spied a thin rod of wood sticking out of her pocket and quickly put it in his own pocket before anyone could see
"No...no...not harry...please no…"
Barbossa put a hand on the young girls shoulder, "you'll be fine lass...you'll be fine…"

Barbossa looked down at the small babe in his arms, the young boy was snoozing away without a care in the world, sucking on his thumb, "the boys lucky…" Barbossa muttered, "all he has is a small sunburn and that peculiar cut on his forehead…" he looked up to where the ships doctor, a one Mr. Ketch, was checking over the boys mother, who was currently lying in his bed, now dry, her breathing shallow and fast.
Ketch ran a hand through his salt and pepper hair, pulling his wire rimmed glasses off, "he definitely drew the right straw...his mother on the other hand…" he looked to the captain, "she's running a fever, exposure and dehydration took its toll...and there's also a half-healed stab wound in her stomach...not a blade, looked like it came from debris...its infected…" he shook his head and stood up, "I doubt she'll make it through the night."
Barbossa sighed tiredly, "poor lass…" he muttered, bouncing the boy a bit as he began to fidget.
"I'll go get things prepared." Ketch said softly.
"Thank you, Mr. Ketch."
Barbossa carefully moved to the woman's side as the Ketch closed the door.
The woman's eyes slowly opened, out of focus and hazy.
"Harry...where's...harry…"
"If you speak of the boy, he's right here." Barbossa said, carefully leaning forward to show the babe.
Her hand slowly came up, resting on the bundle of blankets. "He's alive…"she whispered, tears in her eyes.
"That he is Lass," Barbossa said with a sad smile.
"I...I tried to save him...my magic…"
Barbossa shifted anxiously at that, "keep your voice down lass." He said softly, "the hull has ears, and many a God-fearing sailor roam this vessel."
"Where's my wand?" She asked, her voice quieter.
Barbossa pulled the wand out, holding it up, "was never good at guessing the wood and core." He said to her, carefully putting it beside her.
"Thank you...thank you so much…"
"Twasn't nothing lass." He said with a sad smile, they sat in a comfortable silence until she spoke again.
"I'm dying...aren't I?"
Barbossa let his head fall, "the doctor thinks ye won't last the night…"
"I can feel it...I'm getting weaker…" she moved her head slightly to look at her baby, "will you take care of him? When I'm gone."
Barbossa hesitated, looking down at the snoozing babe in his arms, "I will raise him like my own."
Lily smiled softly, "thank you...thank...you…"
Barbossa took his hat off as the light died in Lily's eyes, her hand falling limply onto the bed, her wand clattering onto the deck.
"Rest easy lass…" Barbossa muttered as he picked up the wand and closed her eyes, "rest easy…" he said quietly as he rose up, cradling the baby in his arms, "you'll be alright lad, ol' Barbossa will be taking care of you from here on out!"

Fourteen years later.
Harry Barbossa laughed as he ran across the rigging of The Queen Anne's Revenge dodging between ropes and canvas before grabbing a free rope and swinging down to the deck, "too slow Turner!" He mocked the boy who slid to a stop above him.
"You're not human!" Will Turner declared as he swung down the rope to land beside Harry, the two walking towards the gang plank that led into the town of Port royal. "Half rat, at the very least!"
"I'm more sure of foot than a rat!" Harry objected hotly, a smirk playing upon his lips, "perhaps a cat."
"Or a monkey." Will snorted.
"Spider monkey." He chortled, nudging his friend with his shoulder as they walked the market.
Will was a good four years older than he was, the son of his fathers First Mate Boot-strap Bill Turner; they'd known each other since the privateer trade had turned into the piracy trade, though the ship and crew they sailed with were usually let go when it came to Port Arthur.
"Do you think Elizabeth would like a flower?" Will asked as they approached a vendor.
"She's a woman, don't they always?" Harry asked flippantly, "though Elizabeth might like a well made Dagger over a rose; scary woman that one."
"Her father is allowing me to escort her to the officer ceremony this afternoon." Will said, looking down at the fairly nice clothes he had purchased for the occasion. Then looked to his friend, eyeing his guns and sword with distaste. "You look like a pirate."
"Which makes my father proud." He retorted, flicking his hat so that it sat on his head crookedly, He had grown up on his father's ship, and seen him go from a military man and privateer, to a freedom seeking Pirate; one that still had the respect of an admiral or two in the British navy, so Harry saw no reason to hide himself like will did when visiting Port Royal, "i'm not wearing a silly suit like that just because you want to shag the governor's daughter."
"But you'll still tag along." Will quipped.
"Of course!" Harry cried, throwing an arm over the older boy's shoulder, "Elizabeth has some friends that I can distract while you go off to snog!"
Will laughed at that, "you really are a pirate."
"And don't you forget." Harry said with a semi-serious lilt to his voice, "now, let's go rub elbows with some blue bloods! What could go wrong?"

Hector Barbossa was by no means an honest man.
He was a pirate after all, and certain morals had to be overlooked when you're wanted by several countries. But he had always kept his business in Port Royal legal, governor swan was a good friend who turned a blind eye to the Queen Anne and her crew, he was also friends with the Admiral and his First Mate; so he felt fairly stable in his position with the Port.
So why was he feeling like all of that was for naught as he watched his son run towards the ship with a young Will Turner behind him, carrying a laughing Elizabeth Swan as they were being chased by newly dubbed Commodore Norrington and the garrison.
"Get the bloody ship moving!" Harry called out as they neared, "unless you want to spend the next ten years in the garrison stockade!"
"What in the blazes did you two do!?" Boot-strap Bill shouted angrily as the other members of the crew began to run about making preparations.
"One of us more than the other!" Harry laughed as he ran onto the deck, helping the crew open the sails.
"Will!" Boot-strap snapped as his son got to the boat.
"She didn't want to marry him!" Will gasped out as he set Elizabeth down, the girl having the decency to look abashed as the ship began to move, the Commodore yelling angrily after it.
"What's all this about!?" Barbossa asked, striding over as his son rejoined them.
"Will went to escort Elizabeth to the Officers Ceremony." Harry began, speaking over Elizabeth and Will, "and I went along for the food, but governor Swan decided will wasn't the proper sort for Elizabeth, and had the newly promoted Commodore escort her, as well as propose to her, which Elizabeth didn't like, proclaiming she was in love with Will, so Will stepped forward and declared his love of the governors daughter, which sparked a fight between he and the Commodore, I set off some black powder near the cannons and got the two outta there before we could be turned to mincemeat by muskets." Harry took a deep breath, grinning at all of them, "I had fun, so I call the day a success!"
"A success?" Bill asked incredulously, "you blew up Port Arthur!"
"Only a small part of it!" Harry objected, "Will Kidnapped the governor's daughter!"
"He did not!" Elizabeth objected.
"Looked that way to me!"
"Enough all of you!" Barbossa snapped as he strode out between them, "I do believe the governor is confounded, his actions do not match his words of the past, perhaps it prudent we keep our distance all the same! Will, secure Elizabeth below deck, Harry, on the mainsail! Move you dogs!"

1994
Hermione Granger was used to the quiet.
Since she had come to Hogwarts at the age of twelve, she'd been alone; it turns out even the magical world doesn't like know-it-all bookworms,And not many had the patience to deal with her lectures for long. Jealousy over her eager to please attitude when it came to teachers had many a whispered spell thrown at her back.
So she'd learned to not speak up in class, to not voice her opinion on anything unless called upon, she stopped trying to make friends and immersed herself in her studies. Only in second year did she speak up, she'd told professor McGonagall about the weird book little Ginny Weasley had, resulting in it being confiscated and the young girl refusing to ever talk to her again.
So here she was, fourth year, sitting alone even with the additional students of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. Listening as Professor Dumbledore counted down to the goblet spitting out names for the triwizard tournament.
Maybe this year will be different, she thought miserably, maybe I'll be kidnapped by pirates and the teachers can pretend to care…

Harry watched as his father stormed out of his office, his monkey familiar tearing apart a piece of parchment.
"Governor Swan was confounded." Barbossa said to the gathered men, "Commodore Norrington is placing blame on Will, and has ordered a warrant for your blowing up of the black powder." He shot his son a look when he looked like he wanted to object, "vice Admiral Malfoy won't be able to help us here. We have to run."
"Its a set up." Elizabeth whispered, anger coloring her words, "they wanted this to happen-"
"-it was bound to happen." Boot-strap said, "we are pirates after all, sooner or later someone was going to do this to limit our friends."
"So what now?" Will asked.
"For now we continue on course, we head for Tortuga for now. We'll gather ourselves-"
"-CAPTAIN! STORM ON THE HORIZON! LOOKS LIKE A BAD ONE SIR! PAIN IN MY LEG AGREES!"
"always something!" Hector spat, "BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES LADS! STOW SAILS!"

"AND NOW THE CHAMPION FOR DURMSTRANG!" Albus Dumbledore shouted as the goblet began to spew red before a smoking piece of paper shot out.
"VIKTOR KRUM!"
The cheering filled the hall as Albus looked about, his mind going, as it usually did on Halloween, to the Potters.
He'd been there, moments before the giant explosion that claimed their lives, hoping to intercept voldemort.
He'd only been a few minutes late.
He'd found no trace of Voldemort save for a scorched black robe, Lily and Harry had likewise disappeared; only James had survived, barely, the dark curse He'd been hit with had damaged his magical core, leaving him exhausted after casting more than basic spells.
The man had been inconsolable when he learned his wife and son had disappeared. He'd thrown his everything into attempting to locate them to no avail.
Now he was a sad eyed professor, having taken over for Remus when the man had been ousted as a werewolf the year prior. Rarely did he ever smile and laugh as he once did. A polite smile reserved for his students and friends.
Not for the first time did Dumbledore wonder if Lily and Harry were truly dead, he'd found no evidence of such when he searched the house.
Perhaps they'd gotten out, and still in hiding, true it was hard to even attempt to believe that; Lily was a smart witch, she would have definitely found out about the dark lord's fall and her husband's survival. She wouldn't still be missing.
Albus shook himself as Krum reached him, he shook the boys hand and congratulated him.
He couldn't get distracted, he still needed to finish this tournament so that he could focus his energy on finding the last of Tom's trinkets. Surely he couldn't have had more than the Diary and the Locket?

Harry held on for dear life as the ship pitched back and forth on rough waves, throwing men off their feet as they fought the rigging and sails.
"Batten down the hatches!" Barbossa roared as he fought the ocean, "get that sail sorted Mr. Turner!"
"We're trying captain!" Bill shouted back, stabbing a knife into the railing to give him better stability, "the main lines gave away! We've got em replaced and it should be up soon.
"This is getting ridiculous!" Barbossa growled, "what deadly curse has Calypso wrought upon us?"
"This isn't Calypso!" Harry called as he landed beside his father, "this is something else!"
"The sea herself is a rough bitch that can raise squalls faster than we can sails." Bill retorted, "whether it's Calypso, nature or God himself matters little! We need to-"
"CAPTAIN!"
Barbossa snarled, "what now…" he trailed off as lightning illuminated a gigantic wave bearing down upon them, "by god-ALL HANDS BRACE!"
Harry barely had time to grab onto the railing before the wave crashed into them, bowling the ship over as lightning struck.
And suddenly, the world was calm.
Harry slowly opened his eyes, gasping in shock as he found himself safe where he'd gripped onto the railing, the ship upright in perfectly calm waves. The hurricane that had once been around them now replaced by a steady, peaceful downpour.
"What in Davy Jones-" Barbosse muttered, looking about suspiciously; all the men around him were slowly getting back to their feet, expressions of confusion a plenty.
"captain! Land ahead!" the watchman in the crows nest shouted down, having scrambled back into the basket as soon as he could.
"bootstrap, my glass!" Barbossa ordered, catching the instrument as soon as it was tossed towards him; Harry practically sprinted up the rigging to take the watchman Glass, staring himself at the large lake protected by tall mountains. A castle glittering with torchlight nestled comfortably in its side.
"Hogwarts?" barbossa questioned, "we're nowhere near the isles-"
"-the sea is a mysterious beast captain." one of the men said solemnly, "perhaps we be happy for a safe harbor."
It was true, Hogwarts never turned them away when they were in need of a port, and they usually didn't care for the muggle/magical governments of the new world, "set course for the castle, Harry!" He called up to his son, who nearly stumbled out of the crowsnest in surprise, "when we get to shore take a party up to the castle and tell Professor penndragon we'll only be a few days."
"Aye captain!" Harry called back. Giving the glass back to the watchman, "thanks mate."

"-CEDRIC DIGGORY!"
Hermione clapped politely as the Hufflepuffs roared in celebration; Cedric Diggory was practically carried up to the front, laughing and grinning all the way.
"There we are! Three champions for three schools!" Dumbledore began after shaking Cedrics hand and ushering him to the trophy room, "but only one will have the fortitude and skill to win the Tri-Wizard Cup!" With a flourish the cup was revealed and again a cheer went up.
And then the flames of the goblet turned red.
Hermione's eyes widened as another slip of paper was thrown out. Caught by a stunned Dumbledore who looked at the head table; sharing confused looms with the other judges before opening the paper.
"Harry Potter."
That single, dumbfounded utterance had the entire great hall in an uproar, everyone arguing and shouting In confusion and anger. With both Durmstrang and Beauxbatons accusing Hogwarts of trying to get two champions while the Hogwarts students spat back that Harry Potter was Dead, and had been for some time.
Hermione discreetly began making her way to the door, wanting to leave before anything bad happened; especially since she could see Madam Maxine and Professor Karkarov stalking towards Dumbledore in apparent rage.
She watched over her shoulder as she finally reached the doors, opening them and striding through; only to run into someone's chest. She turned her head around and almost screamed when she saw the tall man in front of her, shirtless, with a wicked sword in his hand and guns crossed on a wide leather belt around his waist. He regarded her with cold eyes before looking past her at the still riotous great hall, "Harry, it looks like the school's in the middle of the tournament."
"Bugger, really wanted to be here for a chance, oh well, can't be helped."
Hermione stiffened as she peered around the hulking man in front of her to the eight other men walking the entrance hall, a trussed up Filch tied up on the floor beside his petrified cat, each man looked grimy and soaked; and in clothes one would stereotypically call "pirate like." The one leading them looked to be around her age; with a cutlass in one hand and a wand in the other, his thick, wild hair sloppily tied back with a black ribbon, his green eyes scanning the halls before seemingly finding her.
"Well, hello Poppet." he leered, making her take a step back in slight apprehension, "calm yourself, we're here on business." He Said pushing her back towards the large man, who placed a firm hand on her shoulder, keeping her rooted in place.
The leader looked around appraisingly, a few of the nearby students had spotted them and had begun screaming, but the arguing was so loud they hadn't been heard.
He sighed and put his wand away, glancing back to her with a smirk and wink, "always do things the muggle way." He Said, pulling one of the pistols from its holster and raising it to the sky. With a Crack! And a flash of powder the hall went deathly silent, rubble and dust fell from the now damaged ceiling as He holstered the gun.
"Good evening!" He called, grinning roguishly at the now terrified students and angry teachers. Who stood still only because of the weapons in their hands, "I am Harry Barbossa, I'd like to say you should all know me but-from a general glance around-i can tell that's not the case, so! If one of you could point me to Professor Arnold Pendragon; or tell me where I can find him, then I can be on my way, and you can all go back to arguing about whatever it is you were arguing about…savvy?"
