Part 7: New Horizons

The oppressive darkness twisted and shifted around Einhard, a grotesque nightmare that mirrored her deepest fears. The scene played out in horrific clarity—the enemy, a towering, monstrous version of the same creature she had fought before, loomed before her. Its grotesque limbs thrashed through the void, shattering everything in its path.

Einhard's breath caught as she saw Astraea II standing valiantly against the beast, piloted by Ave. His determined voice echoed through her mind. "Haru, trust me! I'll hold it off!"

"Ave-kun, no!" she screamed, but her voice was swallowed by the nightmare's abyss.

The monster's massive claw descended, ripping through Astraea II's defenses. Sparks flew as armor shattered, and the cockpit shield began to crack. Einhard's heart pounded in her chest. She pushed her body forward, desperately willing herself to reach him, but her limbs felt like lead.

No... I have to protect him. I can't lose him.

The claw smashed into the cockpit, and time seemed to slow. Einhard's mismatched eyes widened in horror as she saw the glow of GN particles dimming. Her voice was raw, desperate. "Ave-kun!" The cockpit imploded under the pressure, shards of metal flying as blood splattered across the twisted void.

A strangled sob escaped her lips as she watched Ave's lifeless body slumped inside the cockpit. Her mind reeled with denial, with anguish. This can't be real. I promised... I promised to protect him. The guilt twisted into a sharp, unbearable ache. I failed him.

The monster roared triumphantly, its grotesque form looming ever larger. Einhard fell to her knees, trembling. The weight of despair crushed her, making it impossible to breathe. Her fists clenched against the void's cold surface. Why wasn't I strong enough?

Suddenly, a warm sensation broke through the oppressive nightmare. A familiar, comforting presence surrounded her. Einhard's fingers trembled as she gripped onto that sensation. This isn't real, she realized, fighting through the haze. Ave-kun's not gone. I'll never let this nightmare define me.

With a surge of willpower, she forced herself awake.

Einhard's mismatched eyes fluttered open, her breath ragged and shallow. Her entire body was drenched in sweat, her school uniform clinging uncomfortably to her skin. She shivered slightly, the chill of evaporating moisture mingling with the lingering echoes of terror. Her breath was still uneven, and she felt the damp strands of hair sticking to her flushed face.

She found herself back inside the cockpit of Gundam Astraea II, cradled next to Ave. His breathing was steady, his presence real and reassuring.

Her gaze softened as she saw Asteion perched nearby, its eyes gleaming with concern. She placed a finger to her lips, signalling the plushie not to make a sound. "Shh, Tio," she whispered.

The main monitor's glow drew her attention, displaying the synchronized status of the Double GN Drives. The sight filled her with relief, and a faint smile tugged at her lips. "We made it," she whispered.

Despite the pain still throbbing through her body, her muscles sore and aching from the previous battle, she felt refreshed, as though a weight had lifted from her heart. She carefully reached for the ration pack and water canister stashed in the cockpit. Moving slowly to avoid waking Ave, she unscrewed the cap and took a cautious sip. The cool water soothed her parched throat.

Her gaze drifted back to Ave, who remained fast asleep. His face, usually marked by determination, was now softened by exhaustion. Dark circles framed his eyes, and his breaths were slow and steady. He's been through so much... watching over me, fighting for us. He deserves this rest.

A wave of gratitude washed over her as she observed him. You've always been there, Ave-kun, even when I didn't realize how much I needed someone. You stayed by my side through every challenge.

Her fingers trembled slightly as she held the water canister. I don't think I've ever truly thanked you properly... but I'll make sure you know how much you mean to me. I'll stand by you just like you've stood by me.

The sight of the GN Sword gleaming on Astraea II's frame caught her eye. Even in the middle of all this chaos, you managed to accomplish so much. You never stop finding solutions, pushing forward, protecting me. Her cheeks flushed as warmth blossomed in her chest. That's just who you are, and I love you for it.

Her chest tightened with a mix of emotions—gratitude, admiration, and something deeper. Ave-kun... you always find a way, don't you? Even when things seem impossible.

Her eyes flicked to the newly installed GN Sword mounted on Astraea II's frame. Ave had managed to install it despite everything else they had faced. He never stops, she thought, her heart swelling. That's just who he is... and I love him for it.

A blush crept across her cheeks at the admission, even if only in her thoughts. She shook her head slightly, trying to focus on the present.

Ave stirred beside her, his eyelids fluttering open. His gaze met hers, bleary but warm. "Haru...?"

A radiant smile broke across her face. "Good morning, Ave-kun."

He blinked a few times, still groggy. "You're awake... How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay now," she reassured him softly, though a faint tremor lingered in her voice. "What about you? You've been working so hard. You need to rest too."

He smiled faintly. "I'll be fine as long as you are, Haru." His gaze searched hers, lingering on her flushed face and damp uniform. "You sure you're okay?"

Her heart ached at his concern. "Really, Ave-kun. I'm fine," she insisted, though her body still bore the marks of her ordeal. I have to be fine, she told herself resolutely. I don't want Ave-kun to keep worrying about me. He's already done so much. The thought filled her with determination, even as her body protested with every ache and twinge. No matter what, I have to show him that I'm strong.

Before she could second-guess herself, the words slipped from her lips, barely above a whisper. "Thank you for everything, Ave-kun."

His brows furrowed slightly. "You don't have to thank me, Haru. I—"

Einhard's resolve solidified in that moment. Her heart raced as she leaned in, her voice steady despite her nervousness. "Ave-kun..."

Without waiting for a response, she closed the distance between them, pressing her lips to his in a tender, lingering kiss. The cockpit's quiet hum faded into nothingness as time seemed to stand still. Einhard's heart raced, but soothing warmth spread through her, washing away the fear and exhaustion that had clung to her since the battle.

Ave's initial surprise melted into soft acceptance as he returned the kiss, his hand gently brushing against her damp cheek. The taste of lingering relief and unspoken gratitude passed between them, binding them closer.

I never want to lose this, Einhard thought, her emotions swirling like GN particles igniting a star. I want to be strong for him, to stand by him as he's always stood by me.

When they finally parted, Einhard's mismatched eyes shimmered, filled with newfound resolve. Ave's face was tinged with color, his breath slightly uneven. "Haru..."

Asteion's sudden meow shattered the moment, making them both startle. Their flushed faces mirrored each other's surprise.

Einhard covered her mouth, half-laughing despite her embarrassment. "Tio... really?" she whispered.

Ave rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. "Guess we've got an audience."

Their shared laughter resonated warmly through the cockpit, dissolving the last remnants of tension. Einhard felt a deep sense of peace settle over her. I guess some things never change. As long as we're together, we can face anything.

Ave's gaze sharpened as he scanned the area. The monitor displayed strange energy readings, a swirl of GN particles converging at a distant point. "Haru... look at this," he said, pointing to the anomaly.

Her eyes widened as the data filled the screen. "Could that be... a portal?" she asked, her voice tinged with disbelief and cautious hope.

"It might be our way home," he said, determination sparking in his voice.

Einhard's chest swelled with the same hopeful spark. "Do you really think we can make it back, Ave-kun?" she asked, her voice soft but filled with yearning.

He met her gaze, his expression resolute. "We can, Haru. Together, we can overcome anything," Ave said confidently, his voice filled with renewed determination.

Einhard felt her heart lift at his words. "Then let's go home, Ave-kun," she whispered, her voice steady despite the flood of emotions swirling within her.

With Einhard still settled securely on his lap, Ave gripped the controls of Gundam Astraea II. The hum of the Double GN Drives intensified, filling the cockpit with a brilliant glow.

"Hold on," he advised, his tone gentle yet firm.

Einhard nodded, her mismatched eyes shimmering with resolve. She clung to the belief that no matter what awaited them, they would face it together.

As the Gundam surged forward toward the coordinate of the anomaly, the swirling energies enveloped them. Einhard's breath hitched, but Ave's steady presence beside her kept her grounded.

We'll find our way home, hand in hand, she vowed silently, her heart brimming with gratitude and love.

The stars seemed to blur around them as they soared into the unknown, united by their unyielding bond and newfound hope. Einhard's heart raced with a mixture of anticipation and gratitude as Astraea II soared toward the swirling anomaly. Ave's steady hands on the controls filled her with confidence. Despite the uncertainty ahead, she knew they were ready to face whatever came next together.

"We'll make it, Ave-kun," she said softly, her voice resolute.

He glanced down at her, his eyes warm with conviction. "We will, Haru. No matter what happens, I'll protect you."

She smiled, her mismatched eyes shimmering with emotion. "And I'll protect you too. We're a team, right?"

"Always," he affirmed, his voice unwavering.

The cockpit was filled with the hum of the Double GN Drives, their brilliant light illuminating the path ahead. Einhard's thoughts lingered on their journey so far—the battles, the fears, and the triumphs. But it was the bond they had forged through it all that shone brightest.

As Astraea II propelled them toward the unknown, Einhard felt a renewed sense of purpose. Whatever lay beyond the portal, they would face it hand in hand. Her heart brimmed with hope, strengthened by Ave's presence and their shared resolve.

Together, they would carve a new path, their hearts entwined by love and the promise of a brighter future.
