The story of a Toedscool that raced at 50 km/h to Naranja Academy with a sandwich in its mouth, arrived seconds after the gate closed, and scaled the walls with its long legs, is widely known around the world. Paldeans are fond of pointing out that it can not be true, because Naranja Academy is (and always has been) a boarding school, so its gates therefore do not open and close with the start of the school day. Yet there is a truth in this old tale; wild Toedscool do indeed scale the walls of the academy on a regular basis, but they are not doing so in the hopes of making it to class on time.

Naranja's walls and gates date to medieval Paldea; they were constructed as fortifications to protect the school in an age of banditry and civil wars. Yet any defensive structure lacking a roof – castles and cities no less than schools – was and is vulnerable to infiltration from both Toedscool and flying pokemon. Despite their skill at scaling walls, little military use was ever found for this pokemon; they were reluctant to carry explosives, a task at which Bombirdier was always far better, or indeed anything larger or more valuable than an urgent letter. Nor are these unevolved pokemon particularly dangerous in battle. Once they arrived, Toedscool most often sped aimlessly around whatever structure they entered, occasionally stopping to listen to speeches or lectures before running off again.

Medieval manuals count Toedscool among the weeds, but consider them generally harmless, and note that they are edible in times of siege or famine. Modern audiences are more likely to take interest in accounts from the period of their cross-Paldea journeys, which inspired the sport of parkour at which the Toedscool still excel.
