Rabsca's ability to win battles does not much depend on its weak insect body, so centuries of opponents have sought to locate, and attack, this psychic pokemon's brain. In antiquity, it was held that the larva inside its ball was the pokemon's true form; modern science generally considers that creature to be its child, so contemporary opponents focus their efforts on the bug holding it up. Attacking the bug is easier said than done, however, for the sphere it holds functions like a two-handed tower shield, and Rabsca is extremely adept at positioning it to protect both themselves and their teammates from harm.

Before Paldean unification, Rabsca were frequently seen on the battlefield, as attackers, shields, and medic. An expanded Rabsca ball can shield far more reserves than the bench of any contemporary trainer, and they possess an ability to revive fainted pokemon under battle conditions which even Blissey lacks. Some Paldeans, out of national pride, even hold that Rabsca's shield is the origin of pokeball technology, or at least the aspect of it which protects the pokemon therein from remarkably powerful attacks. However, although both are round, one should not underestimate what can be done with a Voltorb's hollowed out interior alone.

It is easy to forget, with all the emphasis on the ball, that Rabsca are still bugs, and those who seek to defeat them through mental strength alone are soon distracted by the painful buzz of their antennae. Surprisingly quick for their short size (or perhaps surprisingly good at stealing their opponent's speed), these diminutive pokemon are easy enough to step on, but a mighty challenge to defeat. The varying strategies used against them over the ages should be considered a testament to their power; after all, none of them reliably work!
