'Are you crying?' Severus's voice whispered through Remus's mind. The werewolf jerked up from where he was sitting and looked around the room as if startled. For a moment he had forgotten about the bond because both he and Severus had a dreamless night of sleep with no shared thoughts. Severus must have just woken up because now Remus felt their minds mingling.

'Why are you crying?' Came Severus's voice again. The werewolf flushed. He knew everything he felt, and so could Severus, so the other must feel the intense pain he was in.

'My transformation will be starting soon,' Remus explained. 'Actually, Madam Pomfry will be taking me to the Shrieking Shack soon.' Remus sighed. He wished Severus would figure out how to get the wolfsbane to work, but how in the world would they be able to test it? 'The pain is just... excruciating.'

'I'm working on it,' Severus said quickly, feeling the pain the other was going through. The Slytherin had been working on the wolfsbane potion ever since he had considered it might work. Dumbledore was after all an amazing wizard, and even though the potion had backfired at first, surely there would be a way to make it work.

'How long do you have before you change?' Severus would still admit that it was odd the sort of friendship he had created with Remus, though it was hard not to trust the other when he could hear his every thought and feeling. He knew the werewolf truly was a great person, Gryffindor or not. His company was soothing.

'I'm glad you think so,' Remus's voice tickled Severus's subconscious, though it sounded weak, Severus could tell the other was now smiling. Severus flushed. Why did all his thoughts get through to Remus, though Remus could keep his mind so clear? 'A few hours give or take... Oh, she's here now to take me down.'

Severus looked down at the wolfsbane potion. Each time he added something to the pot, he quickly wrote down the reaction, trying to figure out the best items to use. At the moment he was having a hard time doing anything, other than holding his ears and screaming. Remus had transformed into a werewolf and all Severus could hear was screaming and broken bits of thoughts the Gryffindor was thinking, as his mind wasn't his own anymore.

The screaming sounded like a mixture of a dying animal and a human being murdered. Severus wasn't one to show his emotions, especially in a crying way, though those sounds did break through to his heart. Not only that, he knew Remus unlike he knew anybody else. They had shared so many private thoughts, willingly and unwillingly. It would have been impossible not to know each other, and not to get attached to the strange friendship they had created thanks to Dumbledore's mistake.

'Wolfsbane, concentrate on that...' Severus chanted over in his mind, hopefully, if he kept talking to himself, all the tragic sounds Remus was making would be hard to hear.

"Pinch of Remus's hair... Fingernail clippings..." He smirked. Some of the house elves just loved doing his bidding, even gathering very private items from other students.

"Dash of..." He groaned as Remus's screaming and whimpering got louder. He knew it hurt him when he changed, but he had no idea it was this painful. 'It sounds like he's killing himself... How does he get through the night?'

"Bloody hell!" Severus yelled. A couple of first years who were sharing the common room with him jumped up in alarm. They looked at the angry seventh year, not daring to ask what was wrong. It was a curious sight indeed to see the older Slytherin concocting some foul smelling potion. Despite what the first years thought, Severus hadn't yelled because he was angry, he was just so frustrated with all the screaming. At this rate, his potion would kill Remus instead of letting him keep his sanity when he changed forms.

"What the hell are you staring at?" Severus barked. "Go on, clear out." He waved at the poor first years, smirking when they squeaked and ran up to their dorm room. The Slytherin sighed. Now alone, he let the fatigue and worry show on his face. Pushing the boiling pot away, he put his forehead down on the table.

'I've got to be able to do something other than sit hear and listen to Remus scream bloody murder.' Getting a sudden idea, one that Severus was quite startled he would have, as it seemed too mushy for the Slytherin, Severus groaned.

Nevertheless, Severus pulled himself up and went to lie down on the couch. 'Remus, Remus!' He screamed, hoping the werewolf would recognize his name and become distracted from hurting himself.

'It's me, Severus. Can you hear me?'

The snarling and screaming seemed to lesson, encouraging Severus to continue, even though he knew the werewolf couldn't understand his words. 'I think it's a bloody stupid idea to attack yourself, don't you?'

He was making random one sided conversation, as he wasn't sure what else to say. 'I did think about snogging you in a broom closet. How do you keep your thoughts so clear?' The Slytherin sighed.

He felt fine with speaking so truthfully; it wasn't as if Remus hadn't already heard all these thoughts before, and it wasn't likely Remus would remember this when he was in human form again.

The screaming started to grow more intense again, making Severus feel nearly sick. He had never felt pain such as this, and what he felt wasn't remotely close to what he was sure Remus was feeling.

'Stop it! You don't have to attack yourself! Just calm down. You'll change back soon.' Severus balled his fist up and pounded the back of the couch.

Severus knew it was impossible to make the creature understand, but this was Remus... his friend. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, he had become very comfortable with Remus's soft murmurs in the back of his mind.

'Remus, hey? I've got that wolfsbane potion almost done. We can test it on the next full moon. How about that?' Severus sighed. He watched the clock out of the corner of his eyes, urging time to speed up so that Remus could become himself again.

'Okay, don't laugh, I kind of miss talking to you, even if you are a Gryffindor...' Obviously, the werewolf did not laugh. Severus almost wished it would.
