AN: Lol, I forgot that this chapter was set to be posted today. So here's hoping nothing slips through after the beta reading.

Chapter 5: The Inspection

Glynda watched as Jaune grabbed a trowel and made small holes in the ground. He hummed a happy tune as he made more. "What are you doing exactly?" She looked down at Jaune through her glasses as he grabbed some plants from a basket. It came on the wagon of supplies his barbaric friend pulled to her cell. It was strange to think of it as a cell, but she could feel her soul getting pulled towards the ground beneath her.

It was similar to when she cast magic. The excess soul energy left her body to form whatever spell she required. "I'm planting flowers. It will be nice to have some color. Don't you think?" He smiled at her with a hundred watts, and she shied away like a creature of the night.

"You are the strangest knight and man I have ever seen."

"Well, I wasn't raised like most squires. My parents did their best to ensure I wouldn't become one like the rest of my family. So, I picked up whatever hobbies my siblings would let me join in with them. Eventually, Helen Nikos came by, and with the help of my sisters, I spirited off to learn swordplay at the age of fifteen."

"You trained with the Goddess of the Mistrealan Warriors?"

"Yup. Now, do you want to join me?"

"No." Glynda then walked off into the house, disappearing from the window. She went looking for anything else that would aid her in her escape. The heating system would be a good one-time weapon, but it would take too long to make it into a bomb without getting noticed. The magical wood could be morphed into a decent wand if she could crack the cuffs.

However, that would be too loud, and then the toilet would be impractical. Glynda might have a chance if she could reach the spell circle that repaired the home itself. A spell like that must be large to maintain the entire home, and it would be impractical to engrave it into the bricks.

The foundations of the building would be a decent place, but spell circles have an expiration date. Then, she would have to consider what materials are used to make the circle. Without something like dragon weed, she would cause an imbalance as she manipulated the complex code cast upon the building.

Then, there was the wand to accomplish any of her plans. She looked to Jaune's locked room and frowned. After the whole bathroom explosion, Jaune placed the magical rod into a case he had put in his room. He wasn't a fool and put any tool that could hurt him behind a lock. Each lock required a stream of Aura, bringing her back to the uncomfortable bracelets.

She could only change the part for the toilet because it had some leftover energy from Jaune. While she was happy to have an obvious first step, it was also terrible. She could smash it against a rock and possibly make a crack, which would make her Aura leak. However, that would alert the whole forest.

Getting a key wasn't possible since her warden didn't even have one on his person. Then, there was cutting her hand off. The easiest, the simplest, and the most painful way to accomplish her goal stared back at her with a boring complexion. It would also put her on the clock, considering a prisoner with a now missing hand wouldn't be hard to miss. She looked all over the building to find some cracks in the heating system so she could find the repair spell.

Minutes passed, and nothing came up. Glynda even looked in the bathroom, but the search yielded no results. She sighed and looked outside to hear the dirt moving. She greeted the outside world with her stern visage to see Jaune finishing his little project. "Oh, Glynda, have you finally decided to join me?"

The prisoner pushed up her glasses and looked down on her charge. "No, I'm going to enjoy my yard time." Glynda walked past her guard, who watched her go and shrugged. Glynda needed to test one more thing: whether or not she could leave her jail. The cuffs were good, and an experienced fighter as a warden was great.

However, the fact that she doesn't have tall walls or iron bars to keep her where she is is frightening. Beyond the large group of Aura Warriors and Spellcasters, what would be stopping her from just running right now? In a world where there were no guards, what "wall" was holding her back? A spell, perhaps; there was that pulling sensation earlier. But if it were a semblance, the question would be when it would activate. That would be even more troubling.

She checked the trees surrounding the house the best she could, and there wasn't a single spell etch. The building might give her hope if the surrounding plant life didn't give her any leads. Jaune sat on top of a crate and wiped the sweat from his brow as he watched her inspect the ground with a fine-toothed comb. He smiled innocently and fanned ignorance as she looked for anything to help her leave.

The high-strung woman got onto her hands and knees and then went brick by brick to look at the foundation. She thought there was something she noticed, but it was just dirt. "Oh?!" Scratch marks caught her eye, and she took a closer look. Three vertical lines marred the brick, and her mind raced to the possible spells. However, at the end of the day, just three lines won't tell anything.

So she continued on until she found even more lines. This time, they were two horizontal lines far from the ground. Is this beast folk magic? They work on a system of dominance in their spell-casting. Considering it was one of her least-known subjects, it would be challenging, but she would manage. Finally, she found scratch marks bigger than the rest. They were four long and shallow claw marks.

This all had to be from before the home became enchanted. I also don't feel any magic from it, so it could be an animal. She got back on her knees and kept on scanning the ground. When she made it to the door, she accidentally hit a table with her ass. "What was that?" She turned to see the small mess that her backside made.

A crate, potted plants, empty jars, and gardening equipment fell to the ground. Jaune sped out of the home to see what happened, worried. "Oh, well, let's clean this up." She sighed but agreed to clean up her folly. "I'm almost finished with dinner, so hopefully, it will be good." He motioned to the bed of flowers that he created. "You know, I think I did pretty well with this. What do you think, Glynda?"

She looked at the red flowers glowing brightly in the sun. They sat in a neat two-by-five row, standing proudly. "It is nice."

"Hey, thanks." Jaune's perpetual smile faded as he picked up the empty crate. "Well, that's not good."

"What is?"

"Oh, well, when I started gardening this morning, there was a badger scratching at our home." He looked around to try and find the creature, but nothing turned up. "I was worried he would mess with the flowers before I got a fence for them. So I put him in this crate to move him someplace else."

"Oh." Her cheeks turned a bit red as she blindly picked up something else. It was heavy and, for some reason, furry as well. She pulled the item up to her eyes to see a badger looking back at her. Then it screamed, and she cried. She tossed the thing over her head with the gusto of a wrestler.

"Huh?" Jaune turned around to see a gray badger chasing his prisoner. "Oh, Glynda, I'm coming!" So then there was Glynda, the Bad Witch, who was being chased by a Meles Meles, whom Jaune Arc, the Paladin, was chasing. Eventually, the badger was snagged from the ground and tossed away for what should've been a shorter event for a superhuman.

They heaved hard breaths until they could speak again. "Well, let's eat dinner." They trudged inside and sat for dinner. "I think that badger had Aurua."

"Yes, I noticed that as well." She sat down only to sit on the same badger that got tossed away."Ahhhhhhhh!" That night, dinner was wild and accompanied by an uninvited guest who never left.

AN: Hey, everyone. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I did my best with it, so here's hoping the problems have been ironed out. I did want to make more comedy stuff with the badger, but I just didn't make the time. So, I will have another chapter with the Aura badger. I'm kind of upset that there aren't more animals with Aura, you know? Because they would have it unless the RWBY animals just don't have souls, but eh.

I have been thinking about making a to fund all of this so paying Beta readers and artists doesn't come out of my meager paycheck. I get paid about 200 dollars on a good week, but I am trying to get other things. Like paying for a used car and for new computer parts, so paying for those things for my writing is definitely low on the list.

I will pay for it with my own money, but definitely not now. If I get all of this paid for and have stuff left over, I will use it for my other content ideas. Also, I started to read the War Hammer 40k series. Specifically, I started in the Horus Heresy, but I know everything that has happened. I've watched a lot of videos on it, so I'm excited to read it. So, things might change in the way I write.

My favorite legions so far are the Salamanders and the White Scars, but hey, that might change. The Dark Karkens is my favorite chapter, but I haven't read anything related to it. Also, they don't seem to have a book, so I might change my favs. I just enjoy the Salamander aspect of them and their hunting deep sea monsters for fun. A recommendation for a story, if you want to read on the site, is Cat, Bunny, and the Good Ship Honey Starbright by Lazy Autumn Moon. It's a nice sci-fi RWBY fanfiction but doesn't have many chapters and no real update schedule. Anyway, if you like my work, you can find me on YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook under DragooFire.
