It was not a good day for Sadie Kane.

She waited all day for her father, Julius, to come get her, and he chose to take her to a museum to see some stone. It was a dull activity, but it was made more fun when she and her brother, Carter, were assigned to lock the curator in his office.

When the stone exploded, a man made of fire appeared, trapped her father in a coffin, and sent him underground to… to somewhere!! After that, the night only descended into chaos.

To top it all off, she was essentially trapped in her room with her cat muffin and some unconscious Japanese boy who looked around her age.

She had no idea where he came from; he just appeared after the explosion and has been unconscious ever since. The police must have assumed the boy was with them in some way because they had taken him home with her and her brother.

It was all her father's fault.

She huffed to herself, grabbing her necklace and about to remove it before stopping, sighing, and walking to her desk to take a seat because her bed had been taken by the unconscious boy the cops had carelessly tossed there.

She was not sure why, but part of her wanted nothing more than to take off the dumb necklace, while the other half thought the small memento was somehow comforting.

She felt more secure and protected now than she had in the previous six years.

It was odd.

She could have sworn the pendant had warmed up a lot back at the museum and somehow shielded her from that hothead.

While the punk-dressed girl was lost in thought, she soon began rummaging through her desk drawers, unaware that the dark-haired boy was awakening on her mattress.

As the boy started to sit up in her bed, his dark, raven-like eyes fluttered open and he looked around inquisitively before settling on Sadie, the only other person in the room.

As he regained his senses, the boy quietly climbed out of bed, his dark hair falling to frame his face. His face was marked with two stress marks that were inappropriate for a person his age. He was dressed in a clean black button-up shirt that was tucked into loose, dark navy cargo pants and a basic pair of dark sneakers that marched the dark pulls that were his eyes

Additionally, considering that he had been in an explosion just an hour prior, his clothing appeared to be in fairly good shape.

He would approach from behind her and lightly tap the blonde's shoulder, causing her to jump and give a rather loud yelp at the unexpected contact. However, the boy either did not notice or did not care, as he gazed at her with inquisitive eyes and a blank expression.

"... Who are you?" He would inquire after she appeared to relax, a hand over her heart as she attempted to slow her breathing.

"W- Who am I?-" She repeated Between her labored breaths, she gradually understood the question before a frown joined her features. "I ought to be asking you the same bloody thing! Who you think you are sneaking up on a girl like that?!" She questioned, her British accent fully taking over as her rage grew.

The dark-haired boy would slowly narrow his eyes, not in anger, but in concentration… Who was he?

It took a minute… a very long, anxious-filled minute as he just stared into space and wracked his brain over what his name was.

Unbeknownst to him, Sadie was staring at him in confusion, her anger having left her as she snapped her fingers in front of his face to try and get him to respond.

Slowly coming back to his senses, he would look into her eyes for a moment before glancing to her hand where she was tightly clutching a picture of a blonde woman, perhaps her mother if the resemblance was anything to go by.

"Itachi…" He muttered softly, his gaze returning to her face. "My name is Itachi," He told her, sounding mildly uncertain if that was even correct.

"You don't sound too sure." She told him bluntly, rolling her eyes softly at the boy. "You don't need ta give me a fake name, I'm one o-the cool ones…. It's my brother Carter you have to watch out for, he's a goody-two-shoes through and through." She told him, assuming he was just scared to give her his real name. "I'm Sadie Kane," She said as she extended her hand out to him.

He only started at the hand, not sure what to do with it.

"... I'm not sure what my name is." He told her blatantly, watching her mouth hang open for a moment before slowly nodding and retracting Her hand.

"Alright… well… Itachi is a good name…" She said, fidgeting with the photo in her hands before stuffing it back in her desk drawer as the knob of her door began to turn, and in walked a rather old-looking chap in a lint-colored suit, the inspector if she was a gambling girl.

The man gave the two a once over, his eyebrow-raising slowly, "What are you two doing?" He questioned, getting mixed Expressions from the two before Sadie stood from her chair and looked up at him. "He was helping me with some maths… turns out he's pretty good at it," She told the man matter-of-factly

The old British inspector would blink before looking at the Japanese boy, humming softly before his gaze traveled Back to Sadie. "Noted. Now. I'm Chief Inspector Williams. How about we have a chat about what happened at the museum?"

The man had to hunch to even be in her room, given that Sadie had a rather low ceiling and the inspector appeared to be a rather tall individual.

"I already told the police at the museum." She said firmly, her arms crossing over her chest as she stood.

"Again, if you don't mind."

With a reluctant groan, she went through the events of her night once more. From the conversation she overheard her dad having with that cloaked fellow, to the part where her dad was trapped in some blue coffin thing and dragged into the ground.

Itachi was giving his undivided attention to her story, hoping to gleam from it just how he got here and who he was… but to his luck, it just couldn't be that easy.

Giving a small nod, the kind of nod a parent would give to a lying child, the inspector would turn to the dark-haired boy with curious eyes. "And what about you? What do you remember from tonight?"

Itachi would simply blink and turn his attention to the man

"My name is Itachi."

"... Well Itachi, go on and tell me all you know."

"That is all."

"... Right."

With a tired sigh, the inspector rubbed his temples before acknowledging the pair once more. "Well Miss Kane, Itachi, you have a very active imagination," he said looking at Sadie. "And you're a terrible liar." He finished while looking at Itachi

"I'm not lying."

"Me neither inspector! And it looks like your eyebrow is trying to escape!" She pointed out.

His eyebrow had seemed to rise the more she recalled the events of last night. Her pointing this out caused the inspector to try and look up at his own eyebrows before scowling and he gave her a hard look.

"Now Sadie. I'm sure this is very hard for you. I understand you want to protect your father's reputation, but he's gone now-" he began, only to be interrupted by the blonde girl.

"You mean through the floor in a coffin," she insisted.

"He's not dead."

Inspector Williams spread his hands. "Sadie, I'm very sorry. But we must find out why he did this act of...well..."

"Act of what?"

He cleared his throat uncomfortably. "Your father destroyed priceless artifacts and apparently killed himself in the process. We'd very much like to know why."

She stared at him, her eyes narrowed dangerously. "Are you saying my father's a terrorist? Are you mad?"

"We've made calls to some of your father's associates. I understand his behavior has become erratic since your mother's death. He'd become withdrawn and obsessive in his studies, spending more and more time in Egypt—"

"He's a bloody Egyptologist! You should be looking for him, not asking stupid questions!" Sadie finally blew up at the inspector, huffing in defiance.

Itachi, who had been quiet up to this moment, was starting to look rather uncomfortable as the situation escalated.

"... Can I leave now?" he questioned innocently, getting the inspector to turn his narrowing gaze onto him.

"You may not. You're going to stay put until one of you two admits to what truly happened at the museum. No more lies." He said firmly, like a parent scolding a child

"But we aren't lying!" Sadie insisted, exasperated after having repeated herself so many times. "What is it with adults? Always wanting us to tell the truth but never believing us when we do!" She continued to raise her voice, more than likely letting anyone not inside the room hear her as well.

With a small frown forming on his face, Itachi glared at the man.

This was going nowhere for either of them.

-A few minutes later: The living room-

Itachi, Sadie, and her brother Carter were sitting on the couch in the rather comfy-looking living room… well, as comfy as it could be with multiple police officers around.

Inspector Williams stood in front of them, rubbing the bridge of his nose before taking a seat in one of the chairs across from the trio.

"You three are in some serious trouble. Multiple priceless pieces of art have been destroyed, and the person responsible, Julius, is nowhere to be found." He said in what must have been a rare display of annoyance if the other cops' faces were anything to go by.

Sadie simply tallied it up as a win for her and smirked at his anger.

Carter looked awful. Besides the fact, He was dressed as a mini professor while clinging to his father's work bag. He must not be taking the night's events well.

Itachi sat with his arms crossed and a frown on his face. He didn't know what was going on. He was confused, sad, angry, and hungry. The more he looked at this inspector, the more he just wanted to hit him. Not to mention those bread things on the coffee table were starting to look very good at the moment

"Did you try checking the ground of the Museum? That's where I told you he was dragged down in that blue coffin thing," Sadie questioned matter-of-factly like she got something over on the old man.

"...Sarcophagus," Carter corrected with a small sigh.

"Sadie, that isn't the way you should talk to the nice detective," Her gran, a small old lady who was trembling something fierce.

The woman stood next to her husband, a rather stocky old fellow with sunken eyes that were currently glaring between the inspector and Carter.

"... Sorry Gran." Mumbled Sadie before crumbling onto the couch in a huff, "But we have done nothing but tell the truth and he just won't bloody believe us!" She shot back, getting a glare from the old Man.

"Miss Kane. I know a tall tale when I hear one, and you're stories are clearly the result of an overactive imagination trying to-"

"How?" Itachi abruptly cut off the conversation, drawing the man's attention to himself.

"...Pardon me?"

"If you did not believe the story at first, how would you know it is a lie?" The dark-haired boy questioned further.

"For you to have a reason not to believe it, wouldn't you need to inspect it first?" He asked with a tilt of his head, eliciting a puzzled look from the inspector and a small giggle from Sadie, who patted him on the back and muttered "Nice!"

With a tired expression, the inspector stood up from his chair and began pacing in front of the fireplace, sighing. "If that is how it is going to be, it looks like the three of you." He would pause abruptly, his back straightening slightly as his face went blank, "Are being deported."

Everyone in the room looked shocked, police included when the inspector pulled out a passport and tossed it on Carter's lap. It was the one the police appeared to have confiscated earlier in the night.

Sadie protested as the inspector walked away, with the police following him as he ignored the girl.

"What the fu-?"

"George!"

"... Sorry Martha," Gran and Granpa Faust bickered as the three preteens looked at each other in confusion.

Carter was the first to speak among the group. "Did- did he just say we were getting deported and walk out?-"

He received two silent nods in response.

"Okay, so maybe I am not going crazy," he muttered with a small sigh, while Itachi took the opportunity to reach for one of the dreaded biscuits on the coffee table.

Before he could grab one, the door to the flat was flung open, and everyone's gaze was drawn to a large dark man wearing a pinstripe suit, round glasses, and thick braided hair with gold beads.

He was Amos, the man who nearly got into a fight with their father before the museum, as the Kane siblings quickly remembered.

They were about to say something, more than likely call him out, and accuse him of possibly being related to what happened to their father, but he sighed and held up a hand, looking much too exhausted for some reason or another.

"You!-" Grandpa started, only to suddenly stop when Amos looked his way.

"Wh- Whatever you're gonna say… it's gonna have to wait a sec," He muttered as he slugged his way over to the chair away from the fireplace, giving a small sigh as he sat down on the cushion, grabbing one of the rock-hard biscuits that Itachi had been eyeing for some time now.

Taking a moment to eat the culinary disaster, he sighed and devoured it with great hunger.

All eyes were on him at the moment, the perfect chance for Itachi to grab two biscuits and quickly scarf them down like he hadn't eaten in decades.

"OK, I don't have a lot of time-"

"Pft- "Not a lot of Time". You got biscuit all over your face," Sadie muttered with a huff, which Amos either didn't notice or chose to ignore as he continued

"But. The kids are going to have to come with me back to New York. It's going to be the safest place for them… all of them." He made it a point to emphasize that last statement While clearly looking at the dark-haired boy who was quickly wiping biscuit crumbs off his face and shirt.

"Amos please, not Sadie, we had a deal-" Gran started before Amos raised his hand again.

"Julius broke that deal earlier tonight, and just bringing this up, we have about an hour before that inspector comes back and changes his mind, and less than that for the… other things out there." He muttered that last part, clearly starting to get a little antsy at just how long this was taking, but it seemed only Carter and Itachi noticed as they shared a look.

"Wh- What?-" Sadie Stuttered out as she rose to her feet, looking at her grandparents with a pleading look. "Gran, please! You can't just let some stranger take us!" She exclaimed, her eyes desperate while her grandparents found quite literally anywhere else to look.

About to say more, she stopped when she felt a soft hand on her shoulder, turning, she saw Itachi looking at her with sad eyes as he slowly shook his head.

It was strange how the action managed to calm her down at least slightly, at least, that's how it was interpreted when she sat down in a huff with her arms crossed.

With that, Itachi would turn towards Amos with a twinkle of curiosity in his eyes, "You said the inspector would change his mind in an hour, are you somehow responsible for him, uh, de- deporting?"

He stopped for a moment before looking at the siblings to make sure he got the word right, a small nod from each allowed him to continue his question.

"Deporting us in the first place?" The dark-haired boy questioned with a tilt of his head.

Amos grunted at the question, straightening in his chair as he looked to consider his next words. "I am, and I could explain how I did it… or I could show you and save me some time." he mused the last part as he rose from his seat and walked over to the glass door that led outside to the river.

Placing his hand on the door, he traced a hieroglyph on the glass, one Sadie quickly translated.

"A boat?" She questioned, getting a confused look from Carter

"How did?-"

"That's right Sadie. Very good." Amos praised absently as the hieroglyphics began to glow, and suddenly there was a boat docked right outside with a lone figure appearing to be the captain of the water fairing vessel.

It wasn't your average boat either, it was an Egyptian Reed boat with a big rudder in the back and two torches in the front.

"How did you do that?-" Carter was the first to question, a look of disbelief in his eyes as Amos slowly lowered his glasses to look into the boy's eyes.

"Magic, my boy." He said simply.

"you still can't expect us to just go with some stranger!" Sadie said with her arms crossed before noticing the look Itachi was giving her.

The blonde blinked for a moment before sighing softly. "I guess we're all strangers to you," she muttered softly, getting a nod from the boy while Amos chuckled dryly.

"I'm not a stranger Sadie," as if on cue, a memory flashed through Sadie's mind of the large man looking down at her and wishing her a happy birthday.

"U- Uncle Amos?" She questioned reluctantly, watching him nod with a small smile. "Good, so you do remember me."

Just then a small gasp escaped him and his hands quickly tightened into fists as a scowl grew on his features. "Well, kids. Time's up, everyone On the boat." He ordered urgently as he opened the door and ushered them outside.

Before they could start on their way, a meow at the top of the stairs caught their attention and Amos sighed to himself. "Sorry, can't forget the cat," he said apologetically as the cat rushed down in a blur and jumped in Sadie's arms

Reluctantly the three-plus muffin began to walk out, given his sudden urgency and magic abilities, they figured it was for the best.

"Why are we in such a hurry? Can't you tell us why?" Carted asked as Amos helped load them into the Reed boat.

Although Amos appeared hesitant, Carter could be certain that he was giving Itachi a stern look. "Normally, there's a lot of things I'm not supposed to talk about with regular people… but." Everyone was told to hold on while he paused to load himself into the boot.

Everyone, Sadie excluded, did as the boat lurched forward suddenly as the boat took off in a blur.

"I should be alright because nobody here is normal," he clarified, as though they were not setting records for water speed.

He leaned forward and gestured to Itachi, causing the boy to gaze up at him with interest. "I am not sure who you are, but you are being pursued by some very strong individuals. I used a protection spell to keep one of them away for a few minutes, which gave me enough time to get you kids to safety."

"How is safety in New York?" Carter questioned, each explanation giving him more questions to ask as in the background, the New York skyline came into view and the boat began to slow down.

"New York is home to more than one pantheon. Brooklyn belongs to us Egyptian magicians, but Manhattan belongs to other, more powerful deities." He clarified while massaging the back of his neck as the boat drew closer to a massive factory fit with graffiti and broken windows.

"Typically, they serve as a deterrent to other gods. So, I can only hope that those who come after you are wise enough to avoid risking that war," Amos said somberly as Itachi gradually processed everything.

"... Why are they after me?" He asked, and the man gave him a slight shake of the head. "That; I do not know," he admitted, watching as the boy's gaze fell to the floor.

"We are almost at the family mansion; I can let you stay there while we figure everything out," Amos assured, drawing a nod from the boy and a small gasp from Sadie.

"Carter, Itachi, look!" She yelled as she gestured toward the warehouse's summit, where a spotless white mansion spanning five stories stood.

With a smile on his face, Amos got up and went to get his hat and coat from the captain who had been wearing them during the boat ride.

When Amos removed his hat, there was no one beneath it, and the same was true when he took off his coat.

The boat docked on the side, and with a wave of his hand, Amos summoned a staircase that led them straight to the top of the warehouse and the mansion on the rooftop.

"Lady and gentlemen, welcome To the twenty-first Nome."

AN 1: Yes, I gave Mr and Mrs Faust names, they don't even get first names in the books, or At least, I couldn't find them. If you can find their names and I'm wrong, I'll gladly Change it.

AN 2: Not a whole lot was changed yet- I know :(

This chapter was more of a test per say, something to get my idea out and see if any more inspiration struck and any more ideas flowed, and they did :)

If I can execute them well though- that is going to be the challenge isn't it? I'm something of a novice when it comes to writing, and this is my first fanfic, take of that what you will

AN 3 (final one, I swear): Please review with any feedback or criticisms so I may improve!
