Chapter 12: Reunion

Naruto's Palace, Tatooine

Anakin sat on the cold stone bench in the dimly lit cell, his mind still lost in thoughts. He had tried meditating to calm himself, but it had done little to ease the growing tension. His thoughts kept circling back to one thing, his mother. He clenched his fists, frustration boiling just beneath the surface.

The metallic clank of the cell door unlocking snapped him out of his thoughts. He stood immediately, ready to face whoever was entering. The door swung open, revealing the same guard from earlier, Kiba, one of the Fox Lord's men.

Kiba leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, his mask now covering most of his face except for the sharp eyes that seemed to gleam with mischief. "Get up," he said with a casual yet firm tone. "The Fox Lord is ready to meet you."

Anakin narrowed his eyes but complied, standing slowly. "Took him long enough," he muttered under his breath.

Kiba tilted his head slightly, catching the words. "Careful, Jedi. You may have your pride, but you're not in charge here." After removing the Force suppressors from his wrist, he gestured toward the open doorway and spoke. "Follow me. And don't try anything funny. Trust me, you won't like what happens if you do."

Anakin stepped forward, his gaze wary. He could feel the presence of others nearby. They didn't say a word as Kiba led him down the corridor, their footsteps echoing off the stone walls.

The air grew heavier as they walked. Anakin could sense something, something familiar yet distant. He couldn't place it, but it tugged at him, stirring emotions he had tried to suppress.

"Where are you taking me?" he asked after a few moments of silence.

"To see the Fox Lord," Kiba replied without looking back. "You wanted answers, didn't you? Well, you'll get them soon enough."

Anakin gritted his teeth but said nothing. He knew pressing further wouldn't get him anywhere. Instead, he focused on the strange presence he felt. It was... comforting, yet it filled him with unease.

'What is this feeling?' he wondered, his mind racing. 'It feels... familiar.'

They passed through a series of winding corridors, each one more elaborately decorated than the last. The remnants of Jabba's old palace were still visible in places, faded carvings on the walls, crude sculptures, and worn tapestries. But there were new additions as well, symbols and banners bearing the emblem of the Fox Lord, their vibrant colors standing in stark contrast to the palace's grim past.

"You've got quite the setup here," Anakin commented, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Turning a Hutt's palace into your headquarters. Real charming."

Kiba chuckled, the sound low and mocking. "It works. Besides, it's not about where you start, it's about what you make of it."

They reached a large door at the end of the corridor, flanked by two more masked guards. Kiba paused, turning to Anakin one last time. "I'll say it again, remember, Jedi, don't do anything stupid. You're here as a guest. Act like one."

Anakin met Kiba's gaze, his expression defiant but controlled. "I'm not here to fight. I just want answers."

Kiba nodded, satisfied for now. He gave a brief signal to the guards, and the large doors began to open with a low, mechanical groan.

Anakin Skywalker stepped into the grand hall, his senses still on high alert. The heavy doors behind him closed with a resounding thud, and he couldn't help but feel the weight of the moment pressing down on him. His eyes darted around the room, taking in the elaborate surroundings. The walls were lined with banners bearing unfamiliar emblems, and the air carried a mixture of incense and the faint scent of sand.

At the far end of the hall sat a man draped in a long red cloak, a fox-faced mask resting on the table before him. His posture was relaxed, almost lazy, but there was an undeniable aura of authority around him. He could feel the Force radiating off him like the ocean. 'Where did he get so much Force, and how does the Order not know about him? He definitely seems like a lord . so he's Fox lord huh.' Anakin thought.

Behind the man stood three others, Iruka, Hiruzen, and Yamato, not that Anaakin knew them, each dressed differently, yet all exuding a similar air of power. Anakin's keen senses picked up something unusual about them, they were all brimming with Force, but it felt different and nothing compared to the man in front of them.

His gaze quickly shifted from the seated figure to a smaller figure standing nearby. His heart skipped a beat as recognition hit him like a speeder crash. She had aged, yes, but there was no mistaking her. The lithe figure, her graying hair tied back, her eyes glistening with unshed tears, it was his mother.

"Mom?" he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Shmi Skywalker took a hesitant step forward, her hands trembling slightly. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she bit her lip to keep them from spilling over. "Ani… my Ani," she said, her voice breaking.

Anakin felt his vision blur as tears threatened to fall. He hadn't seen her in years, and the countless nights spent wondering about her fate suddenly came crashing down on him. He took a step forward, his composure slipping. "Mom!"

Anakin couldn't hold back any longer. He moved forward, his steps quickening until he was standing right in front of her. He reached out, and Shmi pulled him into a tight embrace, her arms wrapping around him as if afraid he might disappear. The room seemed to fade away as mother and son reunited, their emotions overflowing. Shmi sobbed quietly, her hands running through his hair as if to assure herself that he was truly there.

"Oh, Ani, my Ani," she sobbed, her voice filled with a mixture of joy and sorrow. "You're here. You're really here."

"I've missed you so much," Anakin murmured, his voice muffled against her shoulder. "I thought I'd never see you again."

Shmi pulled back slightly, cupping his face in her hands. "You've grown so much. Look at you, so strong, so brave. I never stopped thinking about you, Ani."

Anakin closed his eyes, letting himself feel the warmth of his mother's embrace. "I've longed for this moment," he whispered, his voice breaking. "To see you again… To feel this warmth….I thought it was impossible."

Naruto, observing the reunion from his seat, felt a pang of something he couldn't quite describe. Perhaps it was empathy, or perhaps it was the realization that the woman he had come to regard as a mother figure had a son of her own, a son who was now standing before him.

After a long moment, Shmi pulled back slightly, cupping Anakin's face in her hands. "Look at you, a grown man," she said, her voice filled with pride. "A Jedi. Just like you always wanted."

Anakin managed a small smile, though his eyes were still wet with unshed tears. "I came back for you, Mom. I couldn't stay away any longer. I had to find you."

The tender moment was interrupted by a soft cough. Anakin turned his head slightly, his tear-filled eyes meeting those of the man seated at the head of the table. The man's expression was unreadable, but there was a curious glint in his eyes.

"I take it this is your son, kaa-chan?" the man asked, his voice calm but carrying an air of command.

Shmi nodded, wiping her tears. "Yes… this is Anakin. My son."

Anakin straightened, his protective instincts kicking in. He stepped slightly in front of his mother, his gaze wary as he regarded the man. "Who are you?" he demanded, his tone firm.

The man leaned forward slightly, resting his chin on his hand with a smile on his face. "I'm the one who rules this place now," he said, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "You may call me the Fox Lord."

Anakin's eyes narrowed. "You're the one who killed Jabba?."

"Yes," Naruto said, his tone neutral but with an edge of curiosity. " And you're the Jedi who intruded this planet." He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on the table. "Didn't expect you to be kaa-chan's son, though."

"You captured me" Anakin gritted

Naruto's smirk widened slightly. "Captured? Well, that's a harsh word. Let's just say we brought you here for a little chat. And don't forget it was you who started commotion"

Before Anakin could retort, Shmi placed a calming hand on his arm. "Ani, please. He's not your enemy."

Anakin looked at his mother, his expression softening slightly. "Mom, what's going on? Why are you here? And why are you with these people?"

Shmi sighed, glancing at Naruto. "It's a long story, Ani. After you left, I was freed and eventually came to live here. Naruto, the Fox Lord, has taken care of me and given me a new home."

Anakin frowned, his protective instincts flaring again. "You mean he's keeping you here? Against your will?"

Naruto, still seated, chuckled lightly. "Relax, Jedi. Kaa-chan is free to come and go as she pleases. No chains, no cells, just a safe place for her to live. She is the owner of this place all but in name."

Anakin's jaw tightened, but he forced himself to calm down. He turned back to his mother. "Are you okay? Are they treating you well?"

Shmi smiled gently. "I'm fine, Ani. Really. Naruto and his people have been nothing but kind to me."

Anakin stepped in front of Shmi protectively, his eyes narrowing. "Who are you? And what do you want with my mother? Why do you keep calling my mother 'Kaa-chan'?"

Naruto raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. "Relax, Jedi. Kaa-chan's here of her own free will. No one's holding her against her will. And I call Kaa-chan because she is Kaa-chan, or my mother. She saved me"

Anakin's eyes widened in confusion hearing that. Shmi placed a gentle hand on Anakin's arm. "Ani, it's okay. This is Naruto, the Fox Lord. He's kind and he's… he's like a s….."

Anakin cut her off with confusion evident on his face. "Kind? Mom, he's the one who captured me."

Naruto crossed his arms. "Really? You're still complaining about why we captured you?"

Anakin looked at him not backing down, and Naruto continued, "You're here because you stormed onto this planet, caused a commotion, and got yourself captured. But more importantly, you're here because your presence interests me.."

Anakin raised an eyebrow. "Interests you?"

Naruto nodded. "Yeah. You see, I've got my own... unique abilities. And you, Jedi, have some of your own. I want to understand what makes you tick."

Anakin took a step back, his hand instinctively going to his belt where his lightsaber would have been. But it wasn't there, and he cursed silently. "And what if I refuse?"

Naruto shrugged. "Then you're free to leave, once I'm satisfied that you're not a threat. But until then, you'll remain our guest."

Shmi placed a hand on Anakin's arm again. "Ani, please. Trust me. He means no harm."

Anakin sighed, running a hand through his hair. He hated feeling powerless, but seeing his mother after so long tempered his frustration. He couldn't afford to act rashly, not when she was involved. "Fine," he said reluctantly. "But I want answers. And I want to make sure my mother stays safe."

Naruto rose from his seat, his cloak billowing slightly as he moved. The clones behind him remained still, their expressions impassive. He walked slowly toward Anakin, stopping a few paces away. "Look, Jedi. I get that this is a lot to take in. But we're not your enemies. Kaa-chan is safe here, and no harm will come to her."

Anakin met Naruto's gaze, his eyes searching for any sign of deception. He couldn't sense anything overtly malicious, but there was something about this man, something that set him on edge. Maybe it was the overwhelming Force that walked alongside him .

Naruto stopped a few feet away from him, his expression serious. "We also have another problem. You see, the Republic doesn't exactly have a good track record when it comes to places like this. And I can't just let you leave without knowing more about why you're really here."

Shmi stepped between them, her eyes pleading. "Please Naruto, there's no need for this. Ani is my son. He's not here to cause trouble."

Naruto sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Fine Kaa-chan. No more fighting, no more threats. Just a conversation." He gestured to the chairs around the table.

Reluctantly, Anakin nodded and guided his mother to a seat. He remained standing, his gaze never leaving Naruto.

"Alright," Naruto said, taking his seat again. "Why don't you start by telling us why you really came to Tatooine?"

Anakin took a deep breath, his mind racing. He still needed to find a way to protect his mother while figuring out what exactly was going on in this strange place. His mother was kind, and while he wanted to trust her judgment, he couldn't shake his unease at the overwhelming Force presence. 'I will watch and see what his true intentions are. Now that I'm here, I bet Master Obi-Wan would want me to gather as much information as possible about this man, a man with a legion of Force users under him, completely unknown to the Jedi Council,' Anakin thought as he nodded his head.

"It all started…."

Guest room Naruto's Palace, Tatooine

The soft hum of a ventilation system filled the room as Senator Voe Atell paced slowly across the intricately tiled floor of her guest quarters. The lavish accommodations provided by the Fox Lord were impressive, far more so than she had anticipated in a desert world like Tatooine. Richly woven tapestries adorned the walls, and the intricate carvings on the furniture hinted at a mix of local craftsmanship and salvaged Hutt opulence. Despite the comfort, however, Voe felt an undercurrent of tension.

Settling into one of the plush chairs, she activated the sleek holoprojector resting on the low table before her. The faint blue glow illuminated her sharp features as she reviewed the latest footage transmitted by her reconnaissance droids. These weren't ordinary droids, they were advanced models used by the rebel faction within the Separatists, designed to blend into their surroundings and gather intelligence discreetly.

Most of the footage had been unremarkable: bustling public corridors, masked guards patrolling the palace grounds, and various civilians moving about. But one particular recording caught her attention.

"Play that again," she commanded, her voice calm but commanding.

The holoprojector flickered before displaying a scene captured in one of the palace's main corridors. A hooded figure in Jedi robes walked briskly, accompanied by one of the Fox Lord's masked guards. Something about the figure's gait and the way he carried himself felt familiar, though Voe couldn't immediately place him.

"Magnify and identify," she instructed.

The droid's advanced recognition system scanned the figure and, after a few seconds, displayed a name in glowing text above the holographic image: Anakin Skywalker – Jedi Padawan.

Voe's eyes narrowed, her interest piqued. She leaned forward, studying the hologram more closely. Skywalker? She had heard the name mentioned before, one of the rising stars of the Jedi Order, known for his unconventional methods and exceptional abilities in combat.

'So, the Jedi are involved,' she thought, her mind racing. 'But why would a Padawan be here, on Tatooine, of all places?'

She replayed the footage, noting the tension in Skywalker's posture. This wasn't a diplomatic visit. The way he walked, the way the guard escorted him, it suggested something more, something urgent. But what could draw a Jedi to this desolate world, and why would the Fox Lord be willing to talk with a Padawan of all people? Does it mean his master, the troubling Obi-Wan, is also here?

Her fingers tapped rhythmically against the edge of the table as she contemplated the possibilities. 'If the Republic has sent a Jedi here, they must be interested in Tatooine's new leadership. But are they here to negotiate or to spy?'

She resumed the recording, watching as Skywalker was led down a corridor toward what appeared to be a restricted area. The droid had managed to capture only a few seconds of footage before losing the signal, likely due to increased security measures and jamming. Still, it was enough to raise alarms in Voe's mind.

'A Jedi Padawan. This could be an opportunity—or a disaster. If he dies here, the Fox Lord could be blamed, but if the Fox Lord is attacked, the Jedi could be blamed,' she mused, weighing her options.

A soft chime echoed through the room, indicating an incoming secure transmission. Voe tapped a button on the console, and the holographic image of one of her lieutenants flickered into view.

"Senator, we've detected a Republic fleet activity within nearby systems," the lieutenant reported. "Nothing definitive yet, but it could be related to the Jedi presence on Tatooine."

Voe's eyes narrowed further. "Continue monitoring. If any Republic ships approach Tatooine, I want to be informed immediately."

"Yes, Senator."

The transmission ended, and Voe leaned back in her chair, deep in thought. If Skywalker's presence here was indeed connected to Republic activity in the sector, it could signal an impending power struggle. The Fox Lord's refusal to align with either side had made him a potential ally, or a dangerous obstacle.

'If the Republic sent Jedi to Tatooine, they may be trying to secure the Fox Lord's allegiance. Or worse, they're trying to undermine him, though that seems unlikely' she thought. 'In any case, the Separatists can't afford to sit idly by.'

She tapped her fingers against the armrest, considering her next move. Should she contact Separatist Command directly, or would it be wiser to wait and gather more information first? The last thing she wanted was to act prematurely and jeopardize any potential alliance with the Fox Lord.

Her gaze drifted back to the frozen hologram of Anakin Skywalker. "Let's see what your game is, Jedi," she murmured. "And let's see how far the Fox Lord is willing to go to keep his precious neutrality."

Deserts, Tatooine

The twin suns of Tatooine hung high in the sky, their blistering heat beating down on the endless dunes of the desert. The air shimmered with heat waves, and the only sounds were the distant whistling winds and the occasional shifting of sand. Among the vast expanse of barren land, a lone figure moved with purpose.

Gaara, walked effortlessly across the dunes, the sand beneath him responding almost as if alive. His red hair stood out against the pale gold of the desert, but his fox-faced mask hid his expression. The cloak draped over his shoulders fluttered lightly in the breeze as he approached his target: the captured Jedi's starfighter.

The sleek Eta-2 Actis-class interceptor sat nestled between two towering sand dunes, partially buried in the loose terrain. The ship was a marvel of engineering, small, nimble, and unmistakably Jedi in design. Gaara's sharp eyes scanned its surface for damage as he neared. His sharp senses picked up no signs of recent movement nearby, but he knew better than to let his guard down.

Nearby, a faint series of beeps and whistles broke the silence. Gaara's gaze shifted to the left, where a small astromech droid, unmistakably an R2 unit, was rolling back and forth near the ship, as if in a state of agitation.

"Interesting," Gaara murmured to himself, his voice calm but calculating. While he didn't recognize the model, it confirmed his earlier suspicions: this ship definitely belonged to the Jedi they had captured.

Gaara crouched low behind a dune, observing the droid's movements carefully. The little astromech was actively trying to send a signal. Gaara's sharp eyes picked up on the faint flickers of a transmitter dish attempting to rotate.

'Smart little thing,' he thought, allowing a faint smirk to tug at the corner of his lips behind the mask. 'Trying to call for help. Too bad this area has signal dampeners active. Probably to clones that came to pick that Jedi'

The Fox Lord had implemented several layers of security across the region, especially in the aftermath of Jabba's downfall. The dampeners ensured that long-range transmissions were scrambled unless authorized, and this little droid wouldn't get far.

Still, Gaara decided it would be better to act before the droid tried something clever. 'Can't allow the Republic to storm the Jedi force here.' here thought

With a subtle gesture of his hand, the sand beneath Gaara shifted and swirled. Like a living entity, it began to crawl toward the unsuspecting droid. Gaara stepped forward, his boots leaving no trace in the loose terrain as the sand moved to obscure his presence.

R2-D2 froze mid-beep, its sensors suddenly detecting the unusual movement. The droid let out a panicked series of whistles and began rolling backward, away from the encroaching sand.

"Oh no, you don't," Gaara muttered, raising his hand. The sand surged forward, forming a small wall behind the droid and cutting off its escape. R2-D2 swiveled its dome in panic, its robotic limbs extending in a futile attempt to find a way out.

The droid tried firing a small shock bolt in Gaara's direction, but the clone barely flinched. With another subtle motion, the sand rose and formed a cocoon around the droid, immobilizing it completely.

"Struggle all you want," Gaara said coldly. "You're not going anywhere."

With the droid secured, Gaara turned his attention to the starfighter. He approached it cautiously, scanning for any traps or active defenses. The ship's canopy was sealed, but a quick inspection revealed the locking mechanism had been left unsecured. Clearly, the Jedi had left in haste.

Gaara reached out and activated the canopy release. With a soft hiss, the cockpit opened, revealing the controls inside. His sharp eyes scanned the dashboard, noting the intricate design of the Jedi ship's systems.

"Impressive," he muttered, running his fingers over the controls.

He activated the ship's onboard logs, skimming through the recent entries. The flight path confirmed what he already suspected: the Jedi had come here directly after leaving Republic-controlled space. There was nothing else of immediate interest, but Gaara knew the ship itself would be a valuable asset.

Gaara stepped back from the ship and tapped the communicator on his wrist. The device buzzed faintly before connecting to the Fox Lord's command center.

"This is Gaara," he said, his voice steady and calm. "I've secured the Jedi's starfighter and his droid. Send a retrieval team to my location."

The communicator crackled as Iruka's voice came through on the other end. "Understood, Gaara. We'll dispatch a team immediately. What's the situation?"

"The ship is intact, and the droid is contained," Gaara replied. "No signs of additional threats in the area. We need to analyze the ship thoroughly."

"Noted," Iruka said. "Team will arrive in a few minutes. Stand by."

Gaara ended the transmission and leaned against the side of the ship, his sharp eyes scanning the horizon. The twin suns were beginning to dip lower, casting long shadows across the dunes.

True to Iruka's word, a small squad of masked clones arrived within minutes, their transport skimming low over the sand before coming to a halt nearby. The lead clone stepped forward and saluted Gaara.

"We're here to retrieve the assets," clone said.

Gaara nodded and gestured toward the ship and the immobilized droid. "Secure them both. Make sure the droid is thoroughly scanned before it's brought into the palace. I don't want any hidden transmitters slipping through."

The lead clone signaled to the other clones, who moved efficiently to carry out the orders. Two of them began attaching towing mechanisms to the starfighter, while another placed a containment field around R2-D2, ensuring the droid couldn't attempt any further escape.

As the team worked, Gaara stepped aside, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The desert stretched endlessly before him, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

With the ship and droid secured, the transport lifted off, carrying its valuable cargo back toward the palace. Gaara remained behind for a moment, watching as the silhouette of the transport disappeared into the distance.

He knelt down, letting the sand sift through his fingers. The desert had always been a place of harsh truths and hidden secrets. Today was no different.

Standing, he turned and began his journey back toward the palace, the weight of the Jedi's true identity heavy on his mind. "What will Boss do? He's in a dilemma, he can't act against this Anakin, even if he's a spy. But I won't let this Jedi go free if he has malicious intentions."
