The first thing you must know is that the purpose of this story is not to minimise the other districts sacrifices. We in Two are well aware that every district has lost at least a hundred children (approximately) over the years.

We are also aware that people in Two are seen as cold. Calculating. Murderers. Of course you're right. No one has won the games by sitting peacefully on the ground after all. There's a confusion with the volunteer system. 'They send their most dangerous tributes to the games to kill! There's something wrong with them!'

Maybe you're right, but we have our reasons and we're well aware that we are in a fortunate position compared to most. I am here to tell the story of how we, as Volunteers, Careers, Victors, evolved.

Who are you to lecture us? I hear you say. You haven't even introduced yourself! Correct. And I have no intention to, although you might be able to put it together by a few clues. I'm old enough to remember (just about) the first games, for one. I was almost reaped once. At least, I think I was.

Anyway, enough about me. You want to know facts to support the total drivel I must be making up, because surely Two's have always had a screw loose?

Anyway. Let's go.
