Several hours later, The Loonatics' headquarters was unusually quiet that morning, and the team was scattered across their usual routines. Ace Bunny lounged in the training room, flipping through a holo-magazine, while Lexi Bunny fine-tuned her hearing in the sensory chamber. Duck Danger was in the kitchen, grumbling about the lack of ketchup for his sandwich, and Slam Tasmanian was napping on the couch, snoring loud enough to rattle the windows. Rev Runner zipped through the halls, testing a new speed gadget, oblivious to the storm brewing below.
The first sign of trouble came when the lab's security feed flickered on the main console, catching Ace's eye. He squinted at the screen, watching a figure—Tech, but not Tech—saunter out of the lab with a wicked grin, carrying a suspiciously modified version of Tech's plasma cannon. "Eh, what's up with that?" Ace muttered, hopping to his feet. He tapped his comms. "Team, meet me at the lab. Something's off with Tech."
Within moments, the Loonatics assembled outside the lab's reinforced doors, tension crackling in the air. Lexi tilted her head, ears twitching. "I'm picking up movement inside—smooth, deliberate. Not Tech's usual pacing." Rev zipped to a halt, feathers ruffled. "Whoa-whoa-whoa, you're saying Tech's gone rogue? Our Tech? Gadget-guru Tech?"
"Only one way to find out," Ace said, laser vision at the ready. He nodded to Slam, who growled and bashed the door open with a single meaty fist.
Inside, Ethan Hyde awaited them, leaning casually against a workbench, twirling a glowing wrench like a baton. "Well, if it isn't the cavalry," he drawled, his voice dripping with mockery. "Took you long enough."
Duck squawked, pointing an accusatory feather. "Who're you supposed to be, huh? Tech's evil twin? 'Cause I'm not buying the bad-boy makeover!" Ethan's grin widened as he smirked. "Please... allow me to explain... and introduce... myself. Name's Hyde… Ethan Hyde. Tech's… better half. He thought he could lock me away, but I'm here to play. And you lot? You're my warm-up."
Looking at Ethan Hyde, Ace thinks to himself, "My gosh. Is this what Tech was talking about last night? Tech, what have you done?" Ace stepped forward, stance firm. "Tech, if you're in there, snap out of it. This ain't you." Ethan laughed, sharp and cold. "Oh, he's in here, alright—watching, whimpering, useless. This is me now, bunny boy. Deal with it."
Lexi's eyes narrowed, her brain blasts charging. "He's not lying—his vibe's all wrong. Whatever he did, it's messed him up bad." She fired a warning shot, which Ethan dodged with a fluid sidestep, his reflexes sharper than Tech's ever were. "Nice try, sweetheart," he taunted, hurling the wrench. It exploded midair into a net of electrified webbing, forcing Lexi to leap aside.
Slam roared, charging forward, but Ethan activated a gadget on his wrist—a repurposed force-field generator—and Slam crashed into an invisible wall, tumbling back with a dazed grunt. "Big guy's got heart, I'll give him that," Ethan mused, strolling toward the plasma cannon he'd prepped.
Rev zipped around, trying to flank him. "Gotta-say-you're-fast-but-I'm-faster-let's-see-how-you-like—" Ethan cut him off, tossing a handful of micro-drones that swarmed Rev, zapping him with tiny shocks until he tripped, feathers smoking. "Speed's overrated," Ethan sneered.
Duck, ever the opportunist, quacked out a power orb, aiming for Ethan's head. "Eat this, wannabe!" Ethan caught it midair with a magnetic glove—Tech's tech, twisted for his own use—and lobbed it back, forcing Duck to dive behind a table. "Lame!" Duck yelled, peeking out. "You're just Tech with a worse attitude!"
Ace had seen enough. "Enough games," he growled, unleashing a barrage of laser blasts. Ethan ducked and weaved, his movements eerily precise, then fired the plasma cannon. The beam grazed Ace's shoulder, singeing his fur as he rolled out of the way. "He's got Tech's brain and then some," Ace warned. "We need to shut him down—now!"
Lexi nodded, syncing with Ace. "I'll distract him—you hit him hard." She unleashed a sonic blast, disorienting Ethan just long enough for Ace to tackle him, pinning him to the ground. Ethan snarled, struggling, his strength surprising. "You can't stop me—I am him, unleashed!"
Rev, recovering, sped over with a containment pod from the lab's shelves. "Gotcha-covered-hold-him-still!" Slam lumbered up, slamming his bulk onto Ethan's legs, and together they wrestled him into the pod. Ethan's laughter echoed as the lid sealed shut. "This isn't over, heroes. I'll be back—better, stronger, smarter!"
As the pod hummed, stabilizing him, Lexi frowned. "That formula—he must've done this to himself. We need to reverse it." Ace rubbed his shoulder, grim. "Yeah, but first, we gotta make sure he doesn't break out. Tech's too smart for his own good—even like this."
Duck crossed his arms, huffing. "Great. Now we've got a supervillain Tech. Anyone else wanna turn evil this week?" Slam just growled, eyeing the pod warily, while Rev chattered nervously. "We'll-fix-him-right? He's-still-our-Tech-somewhere-in-there!"
The Loonatics stood united, shaken but determined. Ethan Hyde was contained—for now—but they knew the real battle was ahead: saving Tech from himself.
