This the third, and hopefully final attempt at creating a full FusionFall Fanfiction based on an OC. I would like to go ahead and place a trigger warning here for intense violence, strong language, alcohol, and minor abuse. Read as you wish. This fanfic's canon is what I like to call the "Roxieverse," taking elements from the original FusionFall game, FusionFall Heroes, the fan-made FusionFall Legacy and Retro, and FMHQ's FusionFall Roleplay, which today's Roxie originated from. I even incorporated some scrapped elements from the OG game. As such, characters featured in these iterations will be will be featured. All other OCs I will use with permission, and credit will be given on the chapter I introduce them.
Now, shall we get started...?
(( Please note this chapter was originally written in 2014, four years before I started writing the rest of the story. As of December 2020, this chapter has been edited and updated to better match the following chapters, and plans for the story going forward. If you've already read the first chapter, don't worry. Nothing major has been changed that disrupts the current story! Thank you all for reading! ))
14 January 2009
The galaxy of Harjemina was nothing too special. Home to the smallest black hole in the universe, Harjemina housed the star Samas, which served as the sun to three planets orbiting around it. The planet closest to Samas was Teslavorr, where the Conductoid species lived, flourishing on electrical energy. The second planet from Samas was Gurgrond, home to the extremely technological advanced Gurgonions and their intelligent robot creations. The third planet from Samas was a barren wasteland, void of history… Planet Fusion.
The mucky green planet of Fusion was not a popular tourist location, as one could guess. Not much was known about the supposed Fusions who lived there. The one known thing about the vague orb in space was the planet's leader, Lord Fuse. Inhabitants of the neighboring planets spread rumors of a totalitarian dictatorship on the planet, holding an iron fist over whatever citizens coward beneath the Lord. This is why it was a shock for the huge, humanoid and toad-like Gurgonions to extend a hand of friendship. A bizarre return message seemed to solidify a good word from the Fusion Master. A feast was to be held in honor of the new-found alliance.
Gurgrond was a very sandy, desert-like planet. Unlike deserts on planet Earth, Gurgonion deserts never experienced any types of droughts. In fact, the ocean on Gurgrond flourished with pure, clear water. As such, the feast celebrating the alliance was to be held on the beach. Fellow allies of the Gurgonions were also invited to attend the fiesta. The happy toad people were a giving species, and often held their doors open to any weary space travelers who may knock. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence for the alien allies of the Gurgonions to join in on the many celebrations they held. Among the guests sat Earth's Dark Wizard himself. Aku.
Aku never particularly cared for alliances. If one held all the power he possessed, they probably wouldn't be too keen either. Of course, over time, the Dark Wizard would align himself along like-minded individuals. For instance, Aku held a long friendship with HIM, a demon of Earth whose true name can strike fear into the hearts of even the bravest of souls. Another example of strange comradery between Aku and another would be that of King Gurga, elected monarch of the Gurgonions.
King Gurga looked just like the rest of the Gurgonions. A large belly protruded in front of the toad-like alien, his hind legs bent and resting at his side. The bipedal creatures hopped around to traverse, being able to lob their heavy bodies great distances in the air thanks to their legs. King Gurga, however, was an elected royal. He had no means of walking on his own two feet. The crown and caped leader is instead, carted around by several servants who hoist his portable throne above their heads.
These servants though, were not Gurgonion slaves or hired help, but robotic creations crafted by the Gurgonions themselves. Other than being known for their large and open celebrations, the Gurgonions were famous across the universe for their creation of intelligent machines capable of surviving on their own. Thousands of years of research and revisions allowed for the aliens to create these A.I.s in all shapes, sizes, and colors. This 'sub-species' was dubbed to be Artificial Intelligence Units. The four units carting around the King were all modeled after Gurgonions themselves.
Aku was already seated among other supernatural and intergalactic visitors within a heavily decorated area of the Gurgonion beach when King Gurga arrived. The other attendees would cry out in joy and applause as the King made his appearance, yet Aku simply stared ahead. Whatever history he held with the Gurgonion King must not be a fond memory of Aku's. The robotic Gurgonions carry his throne nearby Aku's location after making the rounds of welcomes.
"Gurga." the wizard greeted with a firm nod.
"Hail, Dark Wizard!" the king bellowed with a hearty laugh. "Welcome to the celebration!"
"Yeah, 'celebration'." the demon huffed, pursing his lips as his eyes scanned the audience.
"Yes, of course!" the King pumped his little fist into the air. "It is a joyous occasion, my old friend! It's not everyday you make contact with a mysterious planet!"
"Forgive me if your lack of fear of the unknown saps my joy." Aku grunted. He folded his long, slender arms across his chest. "Not a single planet or being has made contact with Planet Fusion before, at least none who will speak of the tale… So why you?"
"We are a friend to all who need us." King Gurga smiled. "Perhaps the ol' Fuse fella just needed some helpful encouragement!"
Almost as if on cue, the bright sky above the beach suddenly grew dark, a deep green haze filling the air. At first glance, the pod entering the atmosphere looked like a spaceship. However, as it neared the party and became clearer, it was revealed to be more akin to a plant. What appeared to be vines coated the outside of a bright green and oozing center. The same vines grew a plenty on the underside of the pod, which started to root themselves into the sand as the carrier landed. A pocket of ooze protruded from the pod, forming into Lord Fuse as he stepped out.
Gurga couldn't help but stare at Fuse as he arrived. This was the first time he had seen Fuse in person, as well as all of the attendees of the party… Except for Aku. Lord Fuse's body was odd, looking similar to a tree, with hard, brown, and bark-like skin making up the majority of his body. The bark would end at three points on his head, and blobs of an acidic green ooze hung from the back of his head, supported by the bark. Any crevices in the alien's skin was filled with this gunk as well, and a trail of it sizzled on the sand behind him as the creature stomped his humanoid legs, approaching the celebration.
"Ahem," the King of Gurgrond muttered, clapping his tiny hands together to draw the attention. "Hello, Mister Fuse!"
The mysterious creature's glowing red eyes stared into Gurga's. No sound came from the Lord.
"Uh, wel-welcome to the planet of Gurgrond!" the King hesitated to continue. "My kind is all very pleased that you all could attend this festival we hold in your honor." Gurga gestured to Lord Fuse. "We are gathered here today to celebrate Gurgrond's unification in peace with Lord Fuse of Planet Fusion."
Lord Fuse blinked his menacing eyes, looking about the faces in attendance. His glare caught onto Aku for a prolonged moment, before the creature's attention looked to King Gurga again. His head slowly dipped into a nod. Gurga hesitated again, but soon threw his arms up in joy, taking the nod as the best response he would get. The crowd erupted into applause behind them, aside from Aku and his increasingly furrowing brow.
"As a result, us Gurgonions would like to give you a gift as token of our kindness." Lord Gurga smiled in joy. With another clap of his webbed hands, a flock of spherical robots would swarm the party, heading towards Gurga. Each robot had a round light on the front of them, each one acting as an eye, and each one showing off a different color. The levitating robots would all hover above Gurga, except for one with a blue light for an eye. That robot would float down, hovering above one of Gurga's webbed hands.
"A new line of artificial intelligence systems, Gurga?" Aku asked in response to the swarm. Despite this, the demon's gaze never faltered from Lord Fuse.
"Yes, indeed!" Gurga cheered, waving off to the crowd around them. "I'd like to formally introduce everyone to the Intelligence Unit Edition Six line!" The crowd, minus Aku and Fuse, cried out into applause once again. "This unit, Intelligence Unit Version 3005 Edition Six, is the latest in the line. She's been created for intergalactic travels, only needing to come home for a good old charge. However, if she is turned off outside of the atmosphere, she must return to the atmosphere to turn on. But, this line of robots are fully sentient!"
"Oh...?" Aku squeaked, intrigued. His lock on Lord Fuse finally broke as he watched the Intelligence Unit V.3005 Edition Six gyrate above Gurga's hand.
"I wish to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade." the Intelligence Unit would buzz in a high-pitched voice. Gurga and many of the party guests chuckled in response. Lord Fuse seemingly rose a brow at the machine's words, showcasing the closest thing to emotion yet.
"She's a comedian too!" Gurga laughed. "Lord Fuse, we would like to give you several robots from this line. This is a kindness!" An array of the Intelligence Units floated down to Fuse's side, lined up and awaiting instruction. Once again, the cryptic creature dipped his head into a nod.
"Now, let's PARTY!" King Gurga cried out, triggering another joyous eruption from the crowd. Food and drink and pleasant conversation began to fill the atmosphere of the beach back up, King Gurga even stepping down from his throne to dance a celebratory jig. To no one's surprise, it seemed like Lord Fuse wasn't the partying type. The slender alien attempted to sulk back to his mode of transportation, but somebody still had their attention on him.
"Leaving so soon...?" Aku asked as Fuse began to stomp off. Unfortunately, it didn't appear like the alien had much care for what Aku had to say. "What are you planning?" Aku added, triggering Lord Fuse to stop in his tracks. He turned just his head to glare at the Dark Wizard.
"Demons talk." Aku began, gliding across the sand to near the alien ruler. "Every galaxy, every planet. They're all home to their own Underworld. The whispers from this end of the universe..."
Aku cut himself off was an exaggerated sigh. What could possibly be so terrible for not even the embodiment of evil to not speak?
"Aku!" King Gurga chimed in, having his Gurgonion model Intelligence Units cart him between the two tall monsters. "Forgive me, Mister Fuse. No one should be subjected to such questioning at a," His tiny, beady eyes narrowed on Aku, "Joyous celebration."
"Mutterings of universal control is plenty of reason to be a 'party pooper'." Aku growled, fingering air-quotes at the end of his statement. Lord Fuse stared onward before emitting sound for the first time; a hallowed and disembodiment string of laughter…?
"We have history, Fusion." Aku continued to spat. "History I'm sure you aren't too keen on being revealed to your lovely little amphibians. I keep in contact with the Demon King of Earth's Underworld as well. It'd be a shame if they learned any privy information too, right?"
The ominous laughter radiating from Lord Fuse slowly faded, the creature falling to complete silence before his head snapped back to the sight ahead him. Aku and Gurga watched, with no intervention, as Lord Fuse returned to the pod he arrived on, stepping into the ooze he exited from. The line of Intelligence Units gifted to him follow suit, but hesitate before plunging themselves into the goo.
"I. Am. Watching. You." Aku barked. The vines rooted into the planet wiggled loose as the pod took off into the air, interestingly without any sort of force to lift off.
"Calculating..." Intelligence Unit V.3005 Edition Six buzzed. "I sense a grave danger in the coming years."
"Haha!" Gurga cried out, cupping his hands around the robot. "What a joker! Let the celebration continue! We may party in Fuse's honor!" The crowd went into another uproar, continuing the celebration as instructed. Gurga looked to Aku with a disappointed face.
"My apologies, King." Aku sighed, dipping his upper half into a bow.
"It seems like us Gurgonions aren't the only ones to extend a hand of friendship to the Fusion planet!" the King snickered, displaying a goofy smirk.
"There is no positive relationship here." Aku shook his head. "You don't know what he's capable of. I barely know what he's capable of. You've opened your doors to them."
"Now, now." Gurga reached over and patted Aku's side. "We have prepared ourselves for the most fierce of invasions, don't you worry."
"I do not worry for the fate of your planet." Aku snarled, whipping his long black cape to the side. "I worry for the fate of the universe."
"Uhhuh. Noted." Gurga nodded in response, clearly not listening to Aku's warning. "Now, please, relax. This is a party!"
29 August 2013
Gurgrond had always been a beautiful planet. Of the three Harjemina planets, Gurgrond was an eye-catcher. Planet Fusion, on the other hand, tended to be a bit of an eyesore. The dull, mucky green sphere had no appealing qualities to it if one looked at it from space. The entire planet looked the same, unlike Gurgrond which had a luscious blue ocean to compliment the tan colored desert. But, on one particular day, the skies weren't blue and beautiful. The oceans weren't calm and beautiful. The desert wasn't refreshing and booming. The skies were green, the oceans were rough, and the planet seemed to be deserted. This was no ordinary storm.
"We need to issue a severe weather warning and evacuate the planet." a Gurgonion adviser said to King Gurga, who watched the storms kick up over the ocean from his palace.
"Something foreign has entered the atmosphere." Gurga said softly. "There's no time to evacuate the planet. But we've prepared for something like this."
"Shall we send Intelligence Units to protect the citizens?" the adviser asked. Gurga nodded in agreement.
"The sooner the better." the lord said.
Just then, King Gurga watched something fall from the sky. A streak of green light followed the object as it crashed down to the beach. A second, similar object followed, and a third, and a fourth. More and more of these objects pelted into the land around them. As they landed, the green streak of light behind them would fade away, and the objects themselves would glow. They were identical to the plant-like ship Lord Fuse had used to travel to this planet years ago during the celebration of peace. Just as the one did before, these pods began to root into the ground below. The pores populating the sides grew, before small green creatures popped out. Were these the Fusions?
"It can't be..." the adviser muttered before looking to see the mortified look on Gurga's face. They both watched on as the pods' spawns attacked the planet.
"We have to get out of here." Gurga muttered. "Send all Intelligence Units out. It's every Gurgonion for themselves now." The fat king stumbled a bit before running off to a dock of ships in his palace.
Gurga rushed to a ship, his adviser running behind him. The spawns were running wild, with more of the spawners falling from the sky. One crashed through the walls of Gurga's home, making a hole for larger oozing monsters to creep inside. As Gurga and his adviser reached a ship, three floating blobs of gunk zoomed through the mansion. The blobs had metal parts slapped to them, and glowing red circles on the fronts. They almost looked like rogue clone versions of the Intelligence Units.
"Sir, look!" Gurga's adviser yelled before pointing out the hole created in the wall. Planet Fusion was fully visible in the sky, larger than it had ever appeared. The situation became all too clear, as the looming Planet Fusion only grew larger and larger.
"No time to waste!" Gurga cried as he began to shove his chunky toad body into the cockpit of the ship he chose. However, the three demented Intelligence Units saw this, and hovered over to the ship. One gargled a message before another seemingly spat up a wad of the acidic ooze it was made of. Hearing the metal of the ship construct and be torn away by the ooze, Gurga panicked to pull himself out of the ship. He would only get as far as sticking his head out before another robotic copy puked up more of the green gunk. Only an agonizing call for help is heard before the King is silenced. The first three alters turned on the adviser, a robotic claw shooting out and grabbing onto him and pulling him close, only to make him meet the same, burning fate as his King.
King Gurga would never have prepared for this. Planet Fusion rapidly tore into Gurgrond's atmosphere before smashing into the planet itself. The surface of Planet Fusion was gooey and acidic like the ooze that covered Lord Fuse, and ended Gurga. The moment the two planets collided, Gurgrond began to be sucked into Planet Fuse This invasion was easy work, lasting no longer than one Earth hour. Nothing was left in its wake, except for a small sliver of Gurgrond surface sticking out from the alien Planet Fusion.
Instead of returning to its place in the Harjemina galaxy, Planet Fusion stood still in the nothing of space. It would not be long for the now-malformed orb to begin movement again, as if to leave the galaxy. Of course, if you're reading this, you know Gurgrond and King Gurga were just the first of many victims of Planet Fusion...
This was the day the Fusion Rise began.
