CHAPTER ONE

Lavender woke up to her older brother arguing with her older sister, about who knows what. She decided to go back to sleep and ignore the bickering that was just outside her door. Lavender soon became suspicious when suddenly everything became quiet, and this didn't help calm her nerves when she heard nothing but the pictures that moved in her room. Lavender pulled her blankets off her and she got out of her purple canopy bed. Quietly she moved towards the door grabbing a brush that was on her desk a few feet away from her bed. Lavender then went to the door and pressed her ear to it. But she couldn't hear anything from the other side and that it started to worry her. It's now or never. As she thought this, she opened the door to be meet with an empty hallway.

What then? I thought there was someone here? Maybe I'm still sleep deprived from staying up last night.Lavender was about to turn around when something caught her attention. A small envelope was lying on the floor outside her doors. She picked up the envelope and saw that it was addressed to her. She went back into her room after she made sure that no one was there. She entered her room and sat at the edge of the bed. She opened it up and saw that it was from Hogwarts.

On another piece of parchment, a more personalized letter read.

Lavender looked at the other parchment and saw the different list of items that would be needed for the year. She reread the information again and again until it finally proceeded. She stood up and grabbed a sweater and briskly walked down the stairs towards the dining room. Lavender passed some of the house elves that were going around cleaning anything that look dirty. It took her a while to get to one end of the house to the other end. As she neared the room, she saw that there was an extra coat hanging on the hanger.Must be either my uncle is here, or it could be one of the Ministry's people. Great.

As the doors opened, lavender saw that it was her aunt talking to her parents.Great. I bet he is here to make me come with her so then she could teach me how to be proper. She walked in and put on a false persona that she usually wares whenever her aunt was around. She sat down at the table and magically breakfast appeared on her plate. Lavender felt all eyes on her, waiting for her to crack under the pressure of their stares. But she knew better then to show any weakness. Eventually everyone went back to whatever they were doing a few moments ago and ignored her presence.

Lavender knew that she would have to show them eventually, but something in the back of her mind told her that they would say no and leave it at that. So, she plucked up the courage and said, "I got my letter from Hogwarts today."

"Is that so? Well sorry to say this to you but you can't go." Said her mother not even looking at her.

"Why not?"

"Because I said so and we already made an agreement with your aunt here."

"WHAT? THAT IS UNFAIR." Lavender quickly lowered her voice and continued. "Please mom. I would like to go to the school and be able to do more things than what Aunt Nella could do."

"I already agreed and besides what will happen with you know?"

"I'll make a deal."

"I said n-"

"I would like to hear this deal you are willing to make" replied her aunt cutting off her mother.

"I would stay at the school and if nothing goes wrong when I come back for the Christmas holiday then I would be able to stay. But if something does go wrong then I would go with Aunt Nella."

"It is a very interesting deal. Which I would be ok with. But mind you, if anything, even the tiniest thing goes wrong then you will not be going back."

"Very well." Lavender said as she went to shake her uncle's hand.

"Wait a moment. I do not agree to this." Her mother stated.

"I think this would be a great idea. It would also teach her how to deal with a different environment for her" replied her father.

"Fine." Was all her mother said as she just sighed in defeat.

Lavender thanked her parents and quickly finished breakfast. When she was done, the plates disappeared, and she left the dining room. As soon as the double doors were closed, lavender ran to her room, not caring if one of the house elves caught her. It did take her a while, but she finally made it and she went to the desk to send out the reply. She looked at what the date was and saw that it was July 20. She wrote on another parchment and then called for the family's owl. A snowy owl came, and lavender tied the letter on and sent the owl on its way.

As soon as the owl left, she pulled out the supply list and looked at the different things.

Wow. That is a lot of items for only the first years. Well, I shouldn't be too surprised.Lavender went to her closet and took out a nice shirt and a clean pair of pants. As soon as she finished getting dressed, lavender's door opened, and two heads popped in.

"Hi Meg. Hi Nate." Lavender said without turning around.

"So, what did they say" asked Nate?

"I won't be going with Aunt Nella."

"Wow. I thought you would be" replied Meg.

"Nope. Because I made a deal with him."

"Well then we'll be going shopping in 3 weeks," said Nate.
