There's Something About Adrienne
Ch. 2
Emma didn't have much experience when it came to guys since she went to an all-girls prep academy in Snow Valley.
For her, setting herself up to go with Scott as her date to these events meant the same as a cotillian date or debutante ball date which usually meant the two were going steady or mixer with the all-boys private school.
Didn't Scott see that was the sensible conclusion? Why was he staring at her like she was some psycho stranger dropping some crazy news on him?
She rolled her eyes at him, did she really have to prove this to him?
He gestured her away with his hands and said lowly, "Uh we are not together.
We don't know each other... we are not romantic there is nothing romantic between us.
Never has been sorry you were um mistaken though I don't know how..."
She stared at him piercingly and he stared back through ruby shades.
Was he for real?
This was the most attention she ever gave or got from a guy her age what did he take her for? Some common prostitute?
Like she just threw her time around to any teenage boy when she never so much as saw one?
This was serious for her and here he was saying he didn't know her...
Romantic? She was not aware that romance between a pair was necessary for a relationship, from her world of Frosts and Hellfire Club.
Scott looked disgruntled and threw his cloth napkin down and said, "You know what? As fun as this has not been, I better go home before any more crazy girls take my presence the wrong way. And I thought you were telepathic...Some mind reader you are."
Emma sharply looked up at him appalled, "Mind reader? How dare you!"
Scott merely looked at her with an exasperated expression before turning to leave.
A giant hairy paw of a hand belonging to one Sebastian Shaw landed heavily on the young boy's broad shoulder.
"Where are you going now Summers before the debauchery has even begun! I see you've been keeping the White Queen company lately..."
Scott raised his finger and opened his mouth to speak, "Actually Mr. Shaw, I was just explaining to Emma how she was sorely mistaken about the meaning of my presence at her events and exiting so she doesn't keep getting the wrong idea. Nor anyone else for that matter."
Shaw guffawed loudly, uproariously, "Seriously Summers, turning down invitations from the White Queen? You do have some balls don't you lad. I like this kid Emma, he's a keeper."
Sebastian winked smarmily to Emma who looked away rolling her pale blue eyes and covered herself up a bit more with the thin white shawl she had draped over her uncovered bare arms.
She knew what he meant, and he meant for her to keep him for the Hellfire's usage in their more cannabilistic sense of using and abusing young mutants lured in by Emma's looks and hypnotizing charm.
That was how Scott had gotten in with the Hellfire Club in the first place, his proximity to his former legal guardian and foster dad, Jack O'Diamonds, a foul factory laborer who used Scott's mutant powers to aid in crimes when Scott was just a youth.
Jack was a mutant himself and similarly to Emma he was a telepath and could also turn into diamond form.
He was a petty criminal and worker for the Hellfire Club's shady underground black market activities, a mere underling doing biddings for the higher powers that ruled the sinister club of mutant elites and old money power.
Gesturing back to the ornately carved thick medium brown wood dinner table surrounded by matching chairs, Sebastian pointed to the vacated seat next to Emma, snapping his heavy fingers together.
"Be a sport and keep our lonely White Queen company for the night, ah, as someone who mentors her I simply must demand you Scott. You kniow how girls get, keep her off my arm for a night again will you? She gets so needy of my attentions."
Emma choked into her goblet as she took another sip. She wiped her mouth with the back of her white gloved hand and was about to protest but thought better of it, seeing the drunken glint in Sebastian's all black eyes.
Sebastian pushed Scott back towards his seat before turning back to his other guests.
Emma drained the rest of her glass and tipped it towards Scott, "Guess you're stuck with me for the rest of the evening. Pour me another."
He dutifully grabbed a nearby pitcher and poured her empty goblet full to the brim of whatever alcoholic concoction was in it.
She nudged him and quietly said, "Truth be told it's not so much I adore your presence, it's just that having you by my side as young male eye candy seems to keep a more affectionate and way too old Shaw away... But of course its all about how much girls want you right, Scott?"
Emma boredly threw her drink back with dull eyes and Scott opened his mouth, "I didn't mean to offend you. I was just taken aback is all. I'm sorry you have to deal with all...that... Must be hard, especially being a young girl in this kind of... society. I shouldn't have judged, I misspoke, Emma."
She smiled mirthlessly toward him and replied, "If this is your apology I accept it. Now let's carry on the rest of the charade shall we?"
She laughed, "So you did notice I'm a girl, huh?"
Scott hesitated, turning his gaze away from her and her revealing white outfit, "Sure, whatever you say, Emma. If that's what you say you are."
He idly looked away jokingly and Emma burst into laughter.
"So you are funny huh. You don't really seem to talk much unless it's about my sister..."
Scott turned his head toward Adrienne who was speaking in hushed tones now to the young male ensemble around her at the other end of the table.
He caught her eye and she smirked over at him and Emma, winking subtly at him without missing a beat in her speech to her captivated audience.
Emma's fists curled up and she glared at the light brown haired older girl with a coldness that would have refrozen Siberia over into a colder Ice Age.
Scott blushed redly at his cheeks, smiling goofily at Adrienne before turning his attention back to his "date" for the night.
A.N.: Thank you for reviewing and following!
Morris777: Hey thanks for your long and thoughtful review I really appreciate the insight and couldn't agree more! You are right on all your points, and I figured my fic would come across that way to readers because to be honest I hadn't raelly thought it out and wrote it out quickly on my phone since I no longer have devices such as laptops or computers.
I have since gotten a new keyboard to type with so that should help in the future thank u for the encouragement. But yes being limited to a phone screen keypad and two fingers and not much time to think definitely was why this story came out that way. I admit its still that way and in the stages of development but I wanted to post this chapter off a draft I had saved and to reply your thoughtful review.
If you or anyone has any ideas or direction on where u would want to see this story going let me know! I need inspiration and I am simply too lazy to do any research regarding the topic enough to flesh out this story or world or emotions or anything. Anyways right on with your helpful analysis thank you and I will try again in the future to right these wrongs!
