Stomp.

The corridor shuddered. Dust rained from the ceiling.

Stomp.

Seamus Finnigan pressed himself against the cold stone wall, his breath hitching. Don't see me. Don't see me. By Merlin's rotting bones, don't—

Stomp.

A blood-curdling scream tore through the hallway behind him. "NO, PLEASE DO—ARRRRGH!*

Seamus didn't turn. Couldn't. The wet, crunching squelch that followed told him everything. Two more steps. Just two more, and he'd round the corner. The Entrance Hall loomed ahead, its oak doors cracked open. Moonlight bled through. Safety.

Stomp.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. His lungs burned. Sweat stung his eyes. Parvati Patil sprinted ahead, her braid whipping like a frantic serpent. She'd seen it too—the flicker of the courtyard gate.

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

"Incarcerous!"

Ropes exploded from his wand, snaring Parvati's ankles. She crashed to the floor with a cry. Seamus didn't look. Couldn't. The stomping faltered.

It's stopping. It's—

He slammed into something solid. Ribs cracked. The world spun. When his vision cleared, he was on his back, staring up at a silhouette blotting out the moon.

No. No no no.

The thing crouched. Its breath reeked of iron and rot. A hand—too large—closed around Seamus's throat, lifting him like a doll.

"Yes,"it rasped, its voice a chorus of grinding bones."You'll do nicely."

The last thing Seamus saw was its grin—a jagged rictus of teeth glinting like shattered glass—before darkness swallowed him whole.

The Hogwarts wards fell with a scream of sundered magic. Voldemort apparated before the school's entrance, his Death Eaters flanking him like shadows.

The first thing he saw was the giant.

It loomed over a scattering of students—some unconscious, others trembling so violently their bones seemed to rattle. Moonlight glinted off its pallid, corpse-gray skin, crisscrossed with jagged scars. Its head snapped toward Voldemort, black eyes void-like and endless, swallowing the light. A predator's gaze.

Slowly, its jaw unhinged. Rows of shark like teeth gleamed wetly, dripping something that sizzled as it struck the cobblestones.

"Nope."

His followers barely had time to blink before the Dark Lord vanished with a crack. Later, they'd argue whether it was cowardice or wisdom. Not that it mattered.

The giant's laughter echoed—a sound like grinding tombstones.

Fun fact, Space marines can make their spit acidic if they want to.

In my original story a few people were actually not sure which chapter that is supposed to be. I had hoped the chapter title to be enough, but I made a small description change at the end that should make it even more obvious. I am also aware that Space marines don't just randomly not have helmets on but well, I kind of needed it off for this to work so just give me that, will you?
