Gone Gustav Gone
At the ship graveyard, Dagur was trying to save whatever could be left on the Reaper after he sunk it
"Pull! Pull!" Savage ordered as some Berserkers were pulling some chains in order to bring the Reaper back to the surface "Keep pulling, you maggots, unless you want to be giant eel chum!"
However, while the Berserkers worked hard trying to recover the ship, Dagur was more focused doing some chin-ups
"Hello, gorgeous" he said before kissing his arm. Then, after doing another chin-up he looked at his arm again. "Oh, hello again" He then continued doing chin-ups. "Work for me, baby. Work for daddy"
"The Reaper is starting to surface, sir" Savage reported as he walked towards Dagur
"I can see that!" Dagur answer angrily
"Oh, right" Savage said as Dagur returned to admire his own arm
"Hello, gorgeous" he said "So… pretty"
Then, after the Berserkers managed to pull the Reaper back to the surface, they started to loot it, taking everything they could find
"That's the last of it" a Berserker said after placing a snapper trap on the deck
"Well, now we have everything of value from the dragon-hunting ship" Savage said as Dagur began to analyze everything on deck
"No, not everything" Dagur said before tossing his dagger to the mast of the ship, which had a drawing of the Dragon Eye on it, making it clear what he wanted
Meanwhile at the Dragon's Edge, Hiccup was in his hut with Toothless, analyzing the Dragon Eye
"Okay, give me a low burn, bud" Hiccup said, so Toothless did as he was told, causing the Dragon Eye to show an image on the wall
"Okay, I've seen this before, but what happens if I push…" Hiccup said as he pushed some buttons at the end, which made the image change. Now it showed some information about a dragon "Cool, dragon classes"
"What do you say we check out the Night Fury, bud?" Hiccup asked as he looked back at Toothless, said dragon just yawned as an answer "Try to contain your excitement, would you?"
Toothless chuckled and lied down on the floor, he only wanted to have a quick nap while Hiccup continued to mess around with the Dragon Eye
"Now, Monstrous Nightmare gem plus Night Fury equals…" Hiccup said as he pressed another button on the Dragon Eye. However, that made the image disappear "Nothing, okay"
Then, Hiccup made the image appear on his hut's door, just as Astrid entered in a rush
"Oh! Astrid class" Hiccup joked
"Hiccup, we have a problem!" Astrid said "A huge problem"
"Dagur?" Hiccup asked
"Worse" Astrid answered
"What could be worse than Dagur?" Hiccup asked
Suddenly, Gustav and his Monstrous Nightmare Fanghook crashed into the hut and colliding with Astrid in the process
"Gustav!" he cheered
"Gustav?!" Hiccup asked
"Gustav" Astrid groaned in pain
"Gustav, what are you doing here?" Hiccup asked, still trying to process what happened, as Gustav recovered and began to look around "I-I mean, what do we owe the pleasure of this visit?"
Then, the other riders began to show up, "Hiccup, did you hear Gustav is-" Snotlout began, before noticing that Gustav was already there "Standing right beside you. Perfect"
"You're looking a little different there, Guster" Tuffnut said
"Yeah, I'm growing a beard" Gustav said as he gestured at a single small hair on his chin
"Really? Let me see" Tuffnut said as he eagerly ran towards Gustav but he was disappointed when he saw "Ha! Even Ruff has more hair on her chinnny-chin-chin than that"
Then, Tuffnut plucked the small hair off Gustav's chin, which hurt him and made him collide into the chest of Hiccup's hut, where Hiccup placed the Dragon Eye
"Hey, what's that thing?" Gustav asked as he grabbed the Dragon Eye, placing it in front of his eyes, blinding himself with the light that was exiting from it "Whoa! You can see the spots? Some sort of sun sword?"
Gustav dropped the Dragon eye, but Hiccup managed to grab it before it hit the ground "I'll take that" he said as Gustav was still blinded "No, Gustav, it's not a sun sword. It's the Dragon Eye, and it's very old and very fragile "
However, Gustav wasn't paying much attention, he was more focused on his blindness as he walked towards a wall where Hiccup hanged some tailfins for Toothless and collied with it
"It isn't just something to just be touched" Fishlegs added
"Relax, Fishlegs, I know what I'm doing" Gustav said before colliding into another wall
"Gustav, Gustav, over here" Snotlout said as he pulled Gustav over to him "Uh, when are you leaving?"
That's funny, Snotlout, but I'm not leaving. I'm moving here" Gustav proudly announced, making Snotlout and Ruffnut gasp in horror while Tuffnut laughed
"Yeah, yeah, you are. Imagine, he would never-" Tuffnut sopped when he realized Gustav was being serious "Wait, is he serious? I'll get this taken firewood"
"Oh, hold on, hold on. No one is burning anyone at the stake" Hiccup said
"Hiccup's right, let's just throw him off a cliff" Ruffnut said, making Hiccup facepalm himself
"Guys, I'm sure there's a simple explanation" he said before looking back at Gustav "Please tell me there's a simple explanation, Gustav"
Yeah, very simple. By the way, do not look right into that sun sword thing" Gustav said as he rubbed his eyes, making his right return "Anyway, you said when I was ready, I could join the Dragon Riders. Well, I'm ready and I'm here to join. Where's my hut?"
"Uh… I know I said that, Gustav… but how can you be so sure you are ready?" Hiccup asked
"Well, I'm older, more experienced and I have bonded better with Fanghook" Gustav proudly listed with his fingers "And, Blake has been teaching me"
Then, all of the riders slowly looked at Blake, who was standing at the entrance of the hut
"What?" he asked
"You've been teaching Gustav how to be a Dragon Rider?!" Astrid asked angrily
"Hey! First of all, I only taught him basic stuff and how to properly bond with his dragon. Second, that was years ago" Blake explained as he crossed his arms over his chest
Minutes later, Hiccup and Astrid were outside Hiccup's hut, talking about Gustav
"Wait a minute, why do I have to watch him?" Astrid asked
"I would do it, but I'm making some major breakthroughs with the Dragon Eye" Hiccup explained
"So?" Astrid asked
"Well, I did promise him that when the time was right, I would train him to be a Dragon Rider" Hiccup admitted "But I just didn't think that said time would be today"
"Well, what am I supposed to do with him in the meantime?" Astrid asked as she was starting to get mad
"I don't know, just keep him occupied" Hiccup said
"Ugh, and why can't Blake do it?" Astrid asked with a groan "If he really trained Gustav, he knows better how to deal with him better than me"
"Actually, Hiccup asked me to help you with Gustav, Astrid" Blake said as he approached
"Come on, Astrid. Gustav is sixteen. How much trouble he possibly be?" Hiccup asked
"And let's be honest, when we were around his age we were already fighting against my father and the Outcasts, Dagur and his Berserkers, the Screaming Death" Blake began to list
Suddenly, Smidvarg landed in front of them with a shriek, clearly wanting to tell them something
"Smidvarg, what is happening?" Hiccup asked just before they heard Gustav talking
"Hey, Hiccup, did you know they could do this?" he asked
They all looked where Gustav was and saw how the Night Terrors were flying around him and Fanghook before forming into a large form of themselves but Gustav and Fanghook flew into them, scaring them off
"Awesome!" Gustav said
"Okay, he might cause some trouble" Blake admitted as Hiccup looked at Astrid
"Please, I just need more time" he said
"Fine!" Astrid said in annoyance before looking up at Gustav "Gustav, arena, now!" Then, she looked back at Blake "You too"
Astrid got on Stormfly's back and flew off towards the Dragon's Edge arena
"Yeah, she's pissed" Blake said as he got on Thunder's back in order to follow Astrid
Then, Hiccup looked at Smidvarg who was still standing in his place "By the way, your timing… impeccable" he said
Smidvarg growled at Hiccup as answer before flying off
Minutes later, Astrid, Blake, Gustav and their dragons where at the arena, Astrid came up with a training exercise for Gustav, who was more busy daydreaming with Astrid
"Gustav!" she yelled, bringing him back to reality
"Oh, hey. I was just-" Gustav began but Astrid interrupted him
"Don't creep me out" she said before gesturing at some barrels with targets painted on them "You're going to help me with target practice. Do you think you can handle that?"
"I can handle that" Gustav said as he kept staring at Astrid, so she pushed him away
"When I say 'throw', you throw" Astrid explained before looking at Blake and Thunder, who were standing not too far away "If something goes wrong, you come in"
Astrid climbed onto Stormfly and took off. Gustav watched her as Stormfly swerved around the post with grace, then she performed a barrel roll and while still holding onto Stormfly ran across the targets. Then then saw upwards into the sky and Gustav grabbed one of the targets
"She sure is something, isn't she, Fanghook?" Gustav said as he leaned on his dragon, who was staring at Stormfly
"Okay. Gustav, throw!" Astrid ordered but Gustav was daydreaming again and didn't listen, which Blake noticed
"And he's not listening" Blake said with a facepalm "Thunder, do you mind?"
Thunder rolled his eyes but he was still going to do what his rider asked, so he ran towards Gustav, used his mouth to take the barrel from Gustav's hands and thew it into the air, just in time for Stormfly to throw some spikes at the barrel and land without trouble
Thunder walked back with Blake, hitting Gustav on the back of the head with his tail in the process, making him stop daydreaming and notice how Astrid is angrily walking towards him
"Didn't you hear what I said?" Astrid scolded angrily
"Uh… maybe?" Gustav said with an awkward smile
"Okay, calm down, Astrid. No one was injured" Blake said as he walked towards them "Why don't we try something different?"
Minutes later, Blake placed some targets on some boxes not too far away in front of Gustav and Fanghook
"All you have to do, Gustav, is telling Fanghook to hit those targets with a fire blast" Blake explained, gesturing at the targets
"Yeah, we can do that. Right, Fanghook?" Gustav asked but Fanghook was starting to fall asleep
"Are you sure it's going to work?" Astrid muttered to Blake
"Well, it's worth to try at least" he muttered
"Fanghook, fire blast!" Gustav ordered. However, since Fanghook was half asleep, he got taken by surprise and shot a fire blast without thinking, which was aimed at Astrid and Blake
Luckily, Stormfly and Thunder protected their riders from the fire and glared at Fanghook, who chuckled nervously
"Uh… maybe we should call it a day" Blake muttered
"Agreed" Astrid muttered back
Minutes later, the twins walked out if their hut as they talked to each other
"I'm telling you, if you get five boars, you can stack them on top of each other, that's a four-boar stack—Aah!" Tuffnut got startled when he and Ruffnut saw Gustav sitting with a grin on his face
"What's he smiling about?" Tuffnut asked, looking a bit uncomfortable
"I don't like it" Ruffnut said
"Whatever he's selling, I'm not buying" Tuffnut said
"Yeah. We don't want your cookies!" Ruffnut agreed as Gustav noticed them
"Hey, guys. Astrid and Blake said that training was done, so I went to help out round here" he said as he began to stand up
"Yeah? So? What's it to us?" Ruffnut asked
"You know that big hole under your hut? Filled it in" Gustav said proudly but the twins looked at each other in horror
"Oh, no. He doesn't mean…" Tuffnut said before he and Ruffnut ran towards the pit under their hut, which was now full of rocks
"Oh! He filled in the boar pit," Tuffnut cried out as he fell to his knees and attempted to remove the rocks "He filled in the boar pit! Who fills in a boar pit? BOAR PIT!"
Tuffnut began to cry due to having his precious Boar Pit ruined "What kind of sick monster would fill in a boar pit?" he sobbed
Gustav immediately realized his mistake and tried to comfort Tuffnut but his sister stopped him
Hey, back off!" Ruffnut said angrily "Haven't you done enough?"
Then, Gustav when to see Fishlegs, who was at his garden with Meatlug. Both of them were meditating, so Gustav and Fanghook joined them but after a while, they were starting to get bored
"This… this is weird, Fishlegs" Gustav said
"Trust me, Gustav, this is exactly what you need" Fishlegs assured. "You're not centered, you're all over the place. Just breathe in, breathe out. Focus on avoiding all conflict. Breathe in, breathe out."
Then, Fanghook accidentally shot a fire blast, which made a near tree catch on fire. He tried to blow it out but he only unleashed more fire and it all was reduced to ashes
"Aah! My topiaries!" Fishlegs screamed
Then, Gustav went with Snotlout, who want nothing to do with Gustav at all
"I've had enough of you, Gustav!" he yelled and then pointed at the floor as they walked next to Hiccup's hut. "Stay. Stay."
Gustav on the other hand, noticed how Snotlout's helmet was on fire and tired to warn him "Uh, Snotlout, your-"
"Stop! I'm not falling for that again" Snotlout interrupted before walking away, which was the moment the fire made itself bigger, making him scream and jump into the ocean
Without having something else to do, Gustav walked into Hiccup's hut and tried to look for him
"Hello? Hiccup?" he said, but the entire hurt was empty
Gustav began to mess around and accidentally knocked into one of the tailfins, that had been replaced on the wall. He then backed away slowly and toppled over Hiccup's chest, causing it to open
"Huh. What have we here?" he asked, looking into the chest
Gustav found several notebooks, charts, maps, the parchment and a spare leg. At once he grabbed the spare leg and pretended to be Hiccup
"Gee, Gustav, there must be a simple explanation for you being here" Gustav said making a terrible impression of Hiccup, even Fanghook laughed "Well, yeah, Hiccup, because I am awesome," he said returning to his normal voice and then impersonated Hiccup again. "Youareawesome, Gustav. Definitely ready to be a Dragon Rider."
Gustav then accidentally is stepped on Fanghook's tail, who shot up a burst of flame at one of the tailfins, so Gustav rushed over to it and attempted to put beat out the fire with the fake leg
"Oh, no. Oh, no," he said as a leg went straight through the burning tailfin, but he noticed the glow from the Dragon Eye, which had been left on the desk and was glowing because of Fanghooks flames "Oh, yes!"
He saw the Dragon Eye was producing a map. "Is that… a treasure map?" he said before having an idea "Oh, Fanghook, we are so in!"
Hours later, Gustav and Fanghook were flying towards the island the map showed, they approached an island and saw it matched perfectly with the one in the map
"That's it, Fanghook, just like the Dragon Eye said" Gustav said "All we got do now is find the cave, grab a treasure, and guess who's gonna get his own hut on Dragon's Edge? Uh, Gustav."
They quickly landed in front of a cave and were about to enter but the ground shook and almost made Gustav fall
"Uh, I'm not worried. Are you worried?" he said, looking at Fanghook
They entered the cave but it was too dark to see something at all
"Fanghook Flame up" Gustav ordered, so Fanghook ignited and Gustav pulled out the map from his satchel "Which way do we head?"
Suddenly the cavern shock again, which made Gustav lose his balance and burn the map with Fanghook's flames. Gustav tried to blow the flames out, but only made them larger and within seconds it was burnt to ashes
Gustav groaned in annoyance and then reached into his satchel "Good thing we broughtthisalong" he said as he pulled out the Dragon Eye "Fanghook?"
Gustav brought the Dragon Eye close to Fanghook's mouth, who then produced a low flame. At once the map that Gustav saw before appeared.
"I think we go this way" he said
Gustav began to walk not noticing the cracks appearing on the cavern floor "It says it's just this way" he said to himself
Suddenly, the cave shook once again in the cavern for broke apart, Gustav would have fallen in if Fanghook hadn't grabbed his satchel and pulled him back to safety
"Whew!" Gustav panting with relief, he reached into his vest, but found the Dragon Eye missing.
He turned his head and saw the Dragon Eye rolling to the edge of the hole in the middle of the cavern.
"No, no, no!" he yelled making a mad grasp for it
He grabbed the Dragon Eye with one hand and clings onto the edge hole with the other
"Whew. A little help here, Fanghook?" he asked as he began to lose his grip "A little help?"
He then lost his grip, but felt someone grabbing his arm and preventing him from falling, it was Hiccup, who had a very angry look on his face
"Hiccup! I can explain" he said nervously
Hours later, they returned to the Dragon's Edge and Hiccup took Gustav to the clubhouse with the other riders
"Of all the irresponsible, insubordinate" Hiccup began to scold
"Don't forget idiotic, imbecilic, insane" Tuffnut said, making the other riders look at him "What? I've heard a lot of words for 'stupid.' I mean, come on, people say that more than my proper name"
Hiccup just rolled his eyes at Tuffnut's words, he's clearly not in the mood to deal with him, so he looked back at Tuffnut
"Of all those kinds of stunts you could have pulled, this was the worst. Do you know what Dagur would do to get his hands on the Dragon Eye?" Hiccup asked
"I just thought if I come back here with a treasure, you guys would accept me" Gustav explained
"First of all, there is no treasure. Second of all, we've already been there" Hiccup glaring at Gustav "And that entire island is honeycombed with the most unstable caverns we've ever encountered."
"I'm sorry, I just—" Gustav began
"You could've been killed, Gustav. Fanghook could've been killed" Hiccup interrupted"
Look, this isn't Berk, Gustav. The rules are different out here. You have to be smarter than this."
"I just wanted to prove myself" Gustav said
"Oh, you have. You have proven you are not responsible enough, you're not mature enough, and you're not trustworthy enough to be one of us" Hiccup said
"You know, Gustav… I chose to teach you the basics of being a dragon rider because I saw potential in you, and because I thought you'd be able to take this seriously" Blake said, giving a step forward "But I guess I was wrong. You are not ready, Gustav"
"Now, it's been a long day. We all need to rest. We'll talk about this in the morning" Hiccup said, so all of the riders left the clubhouse, leaving Gustav and Fanghook alone
Later that night, Gustav was outside of the Dragon Edge's stables, feeding Fanghook
"Talk about in the morning" Gustav muttered to himself, before tossing a fish to Fanghook "Like there's anything left to say"
Fanghook growled un agreement as he ate his fish
"That's right! It'snotfair. I did everything they asked" Gustav muttered as he began to stand up "I shoved dragon pool for two years without a single complaint. For what? So they can tell me and not good enough? Well, Iamgood 'regood enough"
"And someday they'll find that out, but it'll be too late" Gustav added as he gave Fanghook one last fish. Then, he climbed onto Fanghook's neck "We're leaving"
Hours later, Gustav and Fanghook were still flying while Gustav kept talking to himself
"They're gonna be so sorry when they wake up in the morning and see that we're gone" he said "Once they realize that we're missing, they're gonna be begging us to come back to Dragon's Edge. Those huts were lame anyway. I can't wait to get back to my—"
Suddenly, Gustav saw a net heading his way "Whoa! Fanghook, dive!" he ordered and luckily, Fanghook dived just in time
"Ha! Missed!" Gustav laughed but another net was thrown at him and this time Fanghook wasn't able to dodge it and they got trapped
Meanwhile, Dagur was on his ship, playing with his dagger until Savage approached him
"Ha ha! We caputered a Dragon Rider" he reported
"Which one is it?" Dagur laughed excitedly as he and Savage walked down the deck "Oh, I sure hope it's brother Hiccup, or I suppose the girl would work, too"
"Which girl?" Savaged asked
"There's more than one?" Dagur asked, surprised
Dagur made his way through the Berserker crowd in order to look who the captured Dragon Rider was. However, he saw Gustav sitting on the floor, in front of a dragon proof cage in which Fanghook was in
"This is not one of Hiccup's Dragon Riders!" Dagur said, pulling Savage towards him but he quickly let go and looked down at Gustav "Who are you?"
"Larson, Gustav Larson. And that's all you're getting out of me" Gustav said calmly
"Fine, feed him to the eels" Dagur ordered, so the Berserkers began to pull Gustav towards the edge of the ship
"But I know Hiccup, I know the Dragon Riders, and I have information!" Gustav yelled, so the Berserkers tossed him in front of Dagur
Oh? What kind of information?" he asked
"I can get you the Dragon Eye" Gustav explained
"And what's the Dragon Eye?"
"That. That's the Dragon Eye" said Gustav pointing at the mast where the drawing on the Dragon Eye was
Minutes later, Gustav was in Dagur's cabin helping himself to a heap load of food and tossing the odd chicken leg to Fanghook. At the opposite end of the table sat Dagur and standing next to him was Savage
"So, are you enjoying your meal?" Dagur asked, Gustab nodded with his head as his mouth was full of chicken
"Good. Good, good, good, good, good," said Dagur as he carved a piece of chicken "So, here's the plan. We'll draw Hiccup and the Night Fury into the open, neutralize the other riders and seize the Dragon Eye by lethal force, as if there is any other type of force. I mean, really, come on. Then the Dragon Eye will be mine"
"Yeah, that's one way to do it" said Gustav leaning back in his chair "And you might get the Dragon Eye, or Hiccup could crush you just like every other time you faced off against him"
Savage drew his sword, but Dagur stopped him and looked at Gustav "You have a better idea, Gustav?" he said raising an eyebrow.
"Can you hand me the sauce, please?" Gustav asked
Savage looked at Dagur, who moved his head in a fashion telling him to do it, so Savage did as he was told
Gustav then poured the sauce over his chicken and continued "I do, one that will guarantee Hiccup delivers the Dragon Eye right to us"
"More mutton thigh, friend?" Dagur said smiling evilly
Gustav nodded and stabbed his chicken with his fork
Meanwhile at the Dragon's Edge, the other riders noticed how Gustav was missing, so they all went to look for him. After a while, Hiccup, Astrid, Snotlout and Blake landed at the arena
"Anything?" Hiccup asked
"I checked the Clubhouse, your hut, even the stables. He's not there" Astrid said as the twins and Fishlegs arrived
"Nothing else is on fire around here, so he must be gone" Fishlegs said as he got off Meatlug's back
"Well, we have to find him" Hiccup said
"Or… do we?" Tuffnut asked
"Yeah, why are we worried? Shouldn't we be celebrating the fact that he's gone?" Snotlout asked
"Not until we know he's safe" Hiccup said
"Maybe he just returned to Berk, Hiccup. We can send a letter to your dad so he can check if Gustav is there" Blake said
"Well, we could ask Fanghook" Ruffnut suggested
"And, Ruffnut, how do you suppose we do that?" Snotlout asked, rolling his eyes.
"Turn around" Ruffnut answered
Snotlout turned and saw Fanghook flying down towards them. He soon landed looking extremely tired. Tootlhess rushed over to him and sniffed him and then roared at him, so Tuffnut walked towards him
"Fanghook, where's Gustav, boy? Where's Gustav?" he asked but Fanghook only let out a small groan "Ah! He's not talking, you guys. He's completely shut down. Typical."
"Hey, hey, Fanghook. Hey, it's okay. Easy, boy, easy" Hiccup assured as he approached Fanghook, checking him for injuries "Well, doesn't look like he's injured"
"But he's definitely upset" Fishlegs said
"He must be trying to tell us something" Blake said, as he approached as well. However, he noticed a small scroll attached to Fanghook's horns, so he took it and gave it to Hiccup, who began to read it
"Dagur, he wants to make a trade" Hiccup said as he began to read "The Dragon Eye for Gustav"
Minutes later, Hiccup packed the Dragon Eye on Toothless' saddle bag as the other riders approached him
"I don't like this, Hiccup" Astrid said
"Well, we have no choice" Hiccup said
"You sure we haveno choice?" Tuffnut asked. "Like, none? Zip? Zilch?
"This is all my fault anyway" Hiccup said
"Ninguno?" Tuffnut asked
"I never even gave the kid a chance" Hiccup said
"Ni Portugal?" Tuffnut asked
"Tuff, that's really not helping" Hiccup interrupted
"Yeah" Tuffnut agreed
"If I wasn't so busy tinkering with this thing, I don't know, maybe I could have kept him busy" Hiccup said as he gestured at the Dragon Eye before getting on Toothless' back
"Uh, yeah, nobody can keep Gustav busy" Fishlegs said
"At least let us back you up out there" Astrid said
"Dagur was very clear. I have to come alone, we don't know what he'll do to Gustav if I don't fall his demands to the letter. No, we can't risk it" Hiccup said
"I'll still go with you, Hiccup" Blake said "I was the one who taught Gustav the basics of being a Dragon Rider, so I'm also in part responsible for him. Thunder and I will stay hidden in the clouds and only come out if things get out of hand"
Hiccup sighed, he knew he was not going to be able to make Blake change his mind
Hours later, Hiccup, Blake and Fanghook arrived to the Ship Graveyard. As promised, Blake and Thunder flew into the clouds, staying hidden and alert in case something happened
Then, Hiccup and Fanghook landed on the deck of Dagur's ship. He saw Dagur approaching, but then Gustav rushed past him
"Fanghook!" he yelled and hugged his dragon "Oh. I was worried about you, boy"
"Aww, dragon and Dragon Rider a love" Dagur said smiling, which quickly disappeared and got replaced with a disgusted look on his face "Makes me want to hurl"
Toothless began to snarl and Hiccup saw several Berserkers appearing out of nowhere all of them armed to the teeth
"Yeah, I see 'em, bud" Hiccup said before looking at Gustav. "Gustav, are you okay?"
Gustav nodded, but then Dagur walked between the two of them and approached Hiccup "That's close enough, Dagur" Hiccup warned
"Oh, wow. Where's the trust. After all we've been through together?" Dagur asked but Hiccup just gave him a blank look "No? Nothing? No Hiccupy bards, quips, snappy comebacks? But I really love those. We've developed such a nice shorthand, you and I"
"Dagur, let's just get on with this. Send them over" Hiccup demanded
"You first" Dagur insisted, so Hiccup glared at him. "You have no choice. One false move and my men will take out you, the Night Fury and the kid! So roll it over and I'll let him go"
Hiccup knew he didn't have a choice, even with Blake being ready to help from above, he was still in a very hard place, so he rolled the Dragon eye towards Dagur, who stopped it with his foot and picked it up
"Oh. It really is one beautiful artefact" Dragon said as he began to fumble around with it excitedly "And I hear it can be very useful to those who possess it? Hmm? Is that true?"
"Gustav, let's go, it's okay" Hiccup said but Gustav didn't move
"Yeah, about that, Hiccup, I've been treated much better by these guys then I ever was treated by you in the Dragon Riders" Gustav said, making Dagur laugh
"Ooh! And the plot thickens" he laughed
"Gustav" Hiccup said, clearly not liking where this was heading
"You could have given me a chance, you know?" Gustav said, crossing his arms and not looking at Hiccup in the eyes "All you guys ever did was tell me I wasn't good enough, tell me I didn't belong. Well, I belong here"
"Gustav, you have no idea what you're getting into" Hiccup said, but it was more like a warning
"Oh, yes, I do, Hiccup. I know exactly what I'm doing" Gustav said
"Awkward!" Dagur said in a singsong way "Well, I'd say your work is finished here, brother. Ordinarily, this is where I would double-cross you and fill you full of arrows. But the kid is squeamish. He made me promise to let you go, and in return, he's gonna take me to a treasure"
"That's right, Hiccup. We have the Dragon Eye and Fanghook's fire" Gustav said "And you know what that means. Untold treasure awaits"
Toothless growled, he wasn't liking this either but Hiccup calmed him down
"You are going to regret this" Hiccup said
"I don't think so, Hiccup" Gustav said with a smug smile
Without other choice, Hiccup flew away as Dagur whispered to Savage "You know, I'm actually going to feel bad when I kill this kid" he said
Meanwhile, Hiccup and Toothless reunited with Blake and Thunder
"Hiccup… did I just see how Gustav willingly stayed with Dagur?" Blake asked
"Yes, but don't worry everything is under control. There's somewhere we must get to and fast, there's no time to get the others" Hiccup said as he and Toothless flew away
Both Blake and Thunder were really confused, both dragon and rider looked at each other for a moment before flying behind Hiccup and Toothless
Minutes later, Dagur's ship arrived at the same island that Gustav explored yesterday
"This is it" Gustav said
"What are we stopping?" Dagur asked
"No reason. I was just kind of impressed that you trust your men enough to show them exactly where the Treasure is hidden" Gustav said before whispering to Dagur "Especially when there's so much of it"
Gustav walked into the island, knowing that his words influenced Dagur
"Stay here" Dagur ordered to his men
"Why?" Savage said, annoying Dagur
"Oh, uh, let's see, uh… I don't know. Maybe because… I said so!" he yelled
"Oh, good idea, sir. We'll stay here" Savage said
Gustav and Dagur entered the cave and Dagur gave Gustav the Dragon Eye, so he placed it near Fanghook
"Fanghook, slow burn" Gustav ordered
Fanghook did as he was told and the image Gustav saw yesterday appeared on the rock in front of them. Dagur looked at it in amazement
Ah, I see, you outdid yourself, Hiccup. I love this thing" Dagur said
They started to make their way deeper into the cave and it didn't take long for the ground to start shaking
"Uh, so, does that happen a lot?" Dagur asked, starting to get nervous
"You get used to it" Gustav said calmly
They kept walking into the cave but Dagur was starting to grow impatient
"Are we there yet?" he asked
"We're close, very close" Gustav answered
"Good, that's what I wanted to hear" Dagur said, approaching Gustav from behind
However, before he could make a move, Gustav turned and blinded him with the Dragon Eye before running off with Fanghook
"Oh, bright light, bright light, bright light," said Dagur swinging his arms around trying to find Gustav "Come out, come out, wherever you are!"
Dagur quickly recovered his sight and began to look for Gustav. However, the ground began to shake and crack as Dagur saw a small light behind some rocks
Gustav was hiding behind those rocks, he was trying to cover the Dragon Eye's light but it was too bright. He peaked over the side of the rocks and realized that Dagur wasn't anywhere to be seen
Then, Gustav turned around and saw Dagur standing right behind him
"Gotcha!" Dagur said
"No, we got you" a male voice said, so Dagur turned around and saw how Hiccup and Blake were standing behind him, both of their dragons were ready to blast him
"Good work, Gustav" Hiccup said, smiling at Gustav
"I must admit, I didn't see it coming, it was pretty clever of you, Gustav" Blake said with a nod
"Oh, what's the matter, Dagur? No barbs, no comebacks? I thought we had a shorthand. I thought you loved that stuff" Hiccup said
Suddenly, Dagur grabbed Gustav and pushed him towards Hiccup and Blake, taking the Dragon Eye in the process
"Dagur, you hand over the Dragon Eye" Hiccup said
"I don't think so" Dagur said
"You have nowhere to go, Dagur. We can do this the easy or the hard way, your choice" Blake said but Dagur didn't move, so Toothless shot a plasma blast at the ground, creating a pretty big hole without a clear bottom
"Oh" Dagur muttered as he looked down the hole "It's a long way down, isn't it?"
Then, he jumped out of the way when Toothless shot another plasma blast at his feet, he recovered just in time to dodge a lightning blast from Thunder
"Dagur, it's over" Hiccup said
"Give us the Dragon Eye or our next shot won't be a warning" Blake said with a glare
"It's over? Really? Well, if you really want it…" Dagur said before dropping the Dragon Eye into the hole
"Oh no!" Gustav said before jumping into the hole without thinking
"Gustav!" Hiccup and Blake yelled as they dived into the hole while Dagur laughed and ran off
In the hole, Gustav was trying his best to grab the Dragon Eye, and luckily he managed to grab it. However, he was still falling down the hole without a way to stop
He looked up and saw how Hiccup and Blake were diving down the hole to catch him
"Guys, over here!" Gustav said, trying to get their attention
"There!" Hiccup said, pointing at Gustav
Being the faster dragon, Toothless managed to reach Gustav and placed him on his back with Hiccup's help
"We got you, Gustav. Let's get out of here" Hiccup said
Toothless began to make his way back up. However, a falling rock hit him and knocked Hiccup and Gustav off his back, he also lost control of his flight since there was no one to control his tail fin
"Hang on, we're coming!" Blake said as Thunder tried to catch them
Blake managed to grab Hiccup hand and help him sit on Thunder's back while the Skrill caught Toothless. However, they were unable to catch Gustav
"Gustav!" Hiccup and Blake yelled once again since there was no way they could catch him in time
Suddenly, just before Gustav could reach the ground, Fanghook appeared and managed to catch him
"Fanghook! Yeah!" Gustav cheered before hugging his dragon's beck "Thanks, boy"
Then, the cavern shook again and opened another hole, which lead into another cavern, so Thunder and Fanghook landed in it
Once they landed Hiccup got off Thunder's back and reunited with Toothless
"Good to see you're okay, bud. I have to think in something in case that happens to us again" Hiccup said as he petted Toothless' head. Then, he looked at Gustav "You okay?"
"Yeah" Gustav said "Hiccup, I'm really sorry."
"I'm sorry, too, Gustav" Hiccup apologized "You're still irresponsible, immature and reckless, but the way you handled yourself with Dagur"
"Yeah, what you did today was pretty cleaver. I'm sure that someday, you will be an excellent Dragon Rider" Blake said
"Someday?" Gustav asked "I'll take someday!"
The caver shook again for a moment, reminding everyone that they still needed to find a way out
"What do you say we find a way out of here?" Hiccup asked
Gustav nodded, so he and Fanghook walked away. Hiccup and Blake were about to follow them until they saw something, it was a small chest trapped against the cavern walls
"What the Thor is this?" Hiccup asked as he walked towards the chest
He grabbed the chest but before he could open it, the cavern shook again and this time was even more violent
"Uh… Hiccup?" Blake asked
Without losing one more second, Hiccup got on Toothless' back with the chest under his arm and flew off, followed by Blake and Thunder
Later that evening, they returned to the Dragon's Edge. However, Gustav decided he'd return to Berk, so the other riders wet to see him off
"Gustav, I-" Astrid began but Gustav placed a finger on her lips
"Uh-uh, stop right there, sweetie" he interrupted "I can't stay. My mum would kill me. She usually notices I've been gone after about three days"
Gustav quickly got on Fanghook's neck "Alright, Fanghook, let's go" he said before Fanghook began to fly off "You take care, babe. Don't worry, Gustav will be back soon!"
Astrid shook her head before noticing the chest that Hiccup still had
"What's that?" she asked
"Oh, just something we found that cave" he said pulling out a lens from the chest
"Oh, and new lens," Fishlegs gasped
"Yeah, there was a treasure in those caverns after all. The Dragon Eye was given us clues on how to find it all along. We just weren't looking in the right place" Hiccup said
"Honestly, I can't believe we found this thanks to Gustav" Blake said
"Awesome, so let's just tell Gustav" Hiccup joked
"NO!" all of the other riders immediately yelled
They all just waved Gustava goodbye as he and Fanghook flew off
