Chapter Twenty-Two: The Identity of the Eighth Child

The city bustled around Alex as he wandered through the streets, the Book of Darkness glowing faintly in his hands. The DigiDestined had regrouped after the battle with LadyDevimon, but Alex couldn't shake the feeling that they were missing something crucial.

The eighth child.

The Book of Darkness was pulling him toward something—or someone. It wasn't clear who this child was, but Alex knew their role was vital.

A Glimmer of Truth

As Alex approached the edge of the park, he saw a familiar sight: Kari and Gatomon waiting for him.

"Any luck?" Kari asked, her eyes filled with determination.

"Not yet," Alex admitted. "But the book is pointing me toward something nearby."

Gatomon's ears twitched. "I can feel it too. There's a strange energy around here."

They moved together, following the book's faint glow. The trail led them to an abandoned building on the outskirts of the city. The air felt heavy, charged with an energy Alex couldn't quite place.

"This feels... off," Alex muttered.

"Stay close," Kari said, her Digivice glowing faintly in her pocket.

A Shocking Encounter

Inside the building, the light from the Book of Darkness intensified. The pages flipped open, revealing an image of a young child holding a Digivice.

"They're here," Alex said, his heart pounding.

Before they could move further, a voice echoed through the air.

"You've come this far, but you won't leave here alive."

From the shadows, Myotismon appeared, his crimson cloak billowing around him. His sinister smile sent chills down Alex's spine.

"The eighth child belongs to me," Myotismon said. "You'll never find them."

"Not if we stop you first!" Kari shouted, stepping forward.

"Grimdramon, let's go!" Alex called.

Grimdramon emerged from the shadows, growling as he prepared for battle. Gatomon leapt to Kari's side, ready to fight.

The Battle Intensifies

Myotismon's attacks were relentless, forcing Grimdramon and Gatomon to fight with everything they had. Alex's Digivice glowed brightly, amplifying Grimdramon's power.

"Shadow Nova!" Alex called, and Grimdramon unleashed a burst of dark energy that clashed with Myotismon's Crimson Lightning.

"Celestial Arrow!" Gatomon, now Angewomon, fired her signature attack, striking Myotismon and forcing him back.

But Myotismon wasn't finished. He summoned a dark portal, attempting to escape.

"He's running!" Kari said.

"Not yet," Alex said, holding up the Book of Darkness. Its pages glowed, sending a wave of energy that closed the portal before Myotismon could escape.

"You'll pay for this," Myotismon snarled before vanishing into the shadows.

A Step Closer

As the battle ended, the light from the Book of Darkness began to dim, but its energy pointed them toward a nearby window. Alex approached cautiously and looked out to see a young girl walking with her parents in the distance.

"Is that...?" Kari started, but her voice trailed off.

The girl turned briefly, and Alex's breath caught in his throat. Her Digivice, hidden in her hand, glinted in the sunlight.

"That's her," Alex said, his voice filled with certainty.

"The eighth child," Kari whispered
