During a tough battle, our heroes have encountered Grant and Ash has gained his victory over the gym leader, earning himself the Cliff Badge. Now it was Alex's turn to get the victory for himself.

"Oh man! I'm so ready for this!" Alex said as he was so ready to battle Grant next as his Pokemon were ready and out for battle.

"You're going to battle grant now, right?" Ash asked to his friend who got ready and was trying to take it all in first.

"Yup! And now with my team, I feel like i'm ready!" Alex said as he felt prepared to go and was ready to battle Grant for the Cliff Badge to battle his hardest.

"Remember. The Tyrunt can be scary if you don't know what you are doing." Clemont said as he wanted to warn alex about Tyrunt as Alex had a flashback to when Tyrunt was using it's moves of Rock Tomb, Crunch, Dragon tail and the scary move of Draco Meteor.

"I know, i'll need to widdle it down. And it can be very tough if I don't." Alex said as he knew that if he can try to weaken Tyrunt beforehand, he would have a chance.

"So, what do you plan to do?" Serena asked as Alex knew that he should think of a strategy.

"Well I know that Onix is the first wall, so I need to take him out as quick as I can." Alex said as he knew Onix was the first step when it came to Grant.

"The Tyrunt seems more scary with Draco Meteor and it's own Rock Tomb." Bonnie said as she knew that Tyrunt is scarier with the combination of Draco Meteor and Rock Tomb.

"Well, everyone knows to expect a counter. And I know how to battle Grant my way." Alex said as he knew he should counter those moves and planned to do it on his own terms.

"Huh?" The group said as they all blinked in confusion, what did Alex mean by that?

EPISODE 27: The Battle Of Strategy! (Ash)

EPISODE 27: Rocky Roads? Rock On! (Alex)

Inside Cyllage City's Gym

"Hello!? Grant! I'm here to challenge you!" Alex said as the group entered inside the Cyllage City gym were Grant wasn't seen yet so Alex had called out to him.

"Ah, Alex! I've seen you decided to come and battle! Climb up if you want, you can take the elevators for the others." Grant said as he was on the top of the mountain and called out to the others to come along.

"Alright, Grant! I'm coming!" Alex said as he knew he was coming, he looked at Ash and pointed at the wall which got the group to nod as Alex went up and started to climb the walls.

"..." Alex managed to climb the wall that he offered as he wanted to take the chance like Ash did as the others took the elevator once again, Alex looked up to see Grant looking down at him but Alex smirked knowing he could not give up in the slightest, soon the group arrived first at the top where Alex made it up the wall in which he was sweating and catching his breath but he made it all perfect.

"So, tell me. When you climbed the wall, how did it feel?" Grant asked the man who climbed up the entire wall to get a simple answer.

"Tough. But I know that I must not give up." Alex said as he knew how he felt when it climbed up like Grant.

"I like it. You really fought hard to climb up here." Grant said as he was impressed that Alex fought hard to climb all the way.

"Well, I must not let my guard down. I have to look up and see what I need to do to get up." Alex said as he knew he just wanted to look upwards was all it took.

"Tell me, do you feel like this is the starting point?" Grant asked to him, which got him to think.

"It feels like climbing a mountain. But that mountain climb is a goal to finding what I would say.. finding family." Alex said as he had described what he felt on climbing up all those mountains.

"Family climb, huh? Interesting." Grant said as he was intrigued on what Alex had said.

"Yeah. It's a long climb but eventually I want to find my mother." Alex said as he knew that the long road was still going on and on.

"We can work on it once this is over. But enough with the chit-chat, want to start our battle?" Grant said as he knew they can speak about it another time and should get right into it.

"Alright. We will." Alex said as soon as they did, both Grant and Alex were on opposite sides of the battlefield where it was cleared out after the rocks were laid there from Rock Tomb last time.

"The battle between Grant, the gym leader and Alex, the challenger is now underway! Only the challenge will be able to Substitute Pokemon where the gym leader doesn't. Also the challenger is free to use all their Pokemon for this battle!" The referee declared as the same rules were used for Ash's Battle toward Alex which got him to be ready now.

"Remember, just cause you can use all your Pokemon doesn't mean i'm going all out. I always have my chance to let others see how I climb the wall, and it's goal on reaching it's top." Grant said as a slight reminder that he wanted to show Alex that his last loss was not a fluke and he wanted to knock Alex down a peg.

"You know, I feel like Alex might have a slim opportunity to win this if things go his way." Ash said as he knew Alex could have a small opportunity to win the battle.

"Grant might seem like he might use some other strategy to counter Alex." Clemont said as he was sure

"We'll have to see." Ash said as he was worried if Alex would lose which means more training to come.

"Onix, let's go!" Grant said as he tossed Onix's Poke Ball and got him out first.

"Grrroaaahhh!" Onix roared once again as he was prepared for battle.

"So, it's onix again!" Ash said as he was amazed it was gonna be the same results.

"Go, Alex, Go!" Pikachu cheered on to Alex from Ash's shoulder on the sidelines.

"Alright. I'll start off this Pokemon! Gastly, Go!" Alex said as he was ready for Onix who looked at him, then Alex got Gastly's Poke Ball out and summoned him to battle.

"Hreheheh." Gastly chuckled in a devious way, he was not intimidated by Onix's height or long snake powers, just want to scare him first.

"Good choice." Grant said as he wanted to see Gastly first, he saw him before at the battle chateau.

"You know, I'm kind of worried for Alex." Serena said as she now felt worried for Alex.

"What do you mean Serena? Alex is going to do fine?" Ash said, telling Serena that Alex would be fine.

"No, It's just that I know Alex seems like a very nice person and when he trains with you Ash, he really works hard and does seem like a brother to you those times but I'm worried that he's trying his hardest and we know that he's given away from his Pokemon for more stronger ones, but he seems to take care with them for love. And that's what i'm worried about, he's not trying his hardest." Serena said as she explained her situation to Ash and how she felt worried that Alex would not be alright from this.

"Alex has got this, I know it. We've trained together so hard to become stronger." Ash said as he put his hand on Serena's shoulder lightly which made her worry go a bit away.

"You sure about it?" Bonnie said as she looked at Ash.

"Is he going to be okay?" Dedenne said as he wondered if Alex would win.

"Yeah, I believe in him. Go Alex!" Ash said as he once again cheered for his friend on the sidelines.

"You can win this!" Pikachu said as he cheered also.

"All right, Let the battle begin!" The Referee declared as now it was Alex's turn to battle Grant to fight for the Cliff badge for victory.

GRANT VS ALEX: THREE ON TWO

"Go ahead, move first." Grant said as he offered Alex the first move to go.

"Alright. Gastly, Hypnosis!" Alex said as he made his first move alright, which got Gastly's eyes to slightly turn pink.

"Hypnosis!" Gastly said as it sent out waves to put Onix to sleep.

"Rock Polish. And then, Jump." Grant said as he made a small plan of his own.

"Grooahh... Rock Polish! HRRAAGHH!" Onix said as he had blue electric shocks come out of his body, then he did a mighty jump which surprised the group.

"Wow!" Alex exclaimed, seeing a big jump.

"What a jump! Just like the battle chateau!" Clemont said as he realized it was something similar like the battle chateau's jump he did.

"Yeah! It almost matches!" Bonnie said as she realized it was almost the same thing.

"Now, Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he used his favorite move right away.

"Grooaah! Rock Tomb!" Onix said as he summoned out the rocks toward Gastly.

"Dodge, Then Night Shade!" Alex said as he needed to dodge it right away.

"Whoa, Roah! Night Shade!" Gastly said as he weaved left and right and directly hit Night Shade on Onix.

"Grraahh!" Onix groaned out in pain from Night Shade.

"Now, Iron Tail!" Grant said as he wanted to knock it away.

"Iron.. Tail!" Onix said as it's tail glowed once again and swung it toward Gastly.

"Dodge it!" Alex said as he needed to get out of the way for Iron tail.

"Heheh. Whoop!" Gastly said as he managed to weave out of the way and vanish so suddenly.

"Huh? Where'd he go?" Onix said as he landed down and looked all over the battlefield to find where that Gastly went.

"Now, Use Lick and then Night Shade!" Alex said as he needed to attack Onix all over.

"Lick! Night Shade!" Gastly said as he managed to lick Onix from behind, getting it startled before Gastly hit him with a surprise night shade out of nowhere.

"Grraahh..!" Onix roared out in pain as Grant saw Gastly was out in the open.

"Now, Iron Tail!" Grant commanded as Onix heard his voice.

"Iron Tail!" Onix said as he blindly swung it and whacked Gastly back.

"Grrraaghhh! Hmph." Gastly grunted out as he stopped moving back and hung on.

"Gastly, how are you?" Alex said as he checked on Gastly for his health.

"Pretty good." Gastly said as he felt okay but Grant had to go again.

"Flash Cannon!" Grant said as he knew he had to act and fired away with Flash cannon.

"Flash... Cannon!" Onix said as he fired off a beam that was fast enough to hit Gastly.

"Ngh! Gastly!" Alex cried out as he was hit in the face.

"Ah!" The group gasped as that was bad.

"Gastly's hit hard!" Ash said as Gastly emerged from the smoke shaken up and bruised up but all fine and still okay.

"Mmph. Aagh!" Gastly said as he shouted to get himself focused.

"That really hurts.. Flash Cannon directly to the Pokemon seems bad. I got to stay on guard!" Alex said as he knew this was very very bad.

"Now, Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he wanted to end Gastly with his favorite move.

"Roock Toomb!" Onix said as he summoned out rocks and fired off Rock tomb.

"Hang tight, Gastly. Night Shade!" Alex said as he told on his Pokemon to hold on and fight with his spirit.

"Night Shadee!" Gastly said as he hit a direct hit night shade.

"Grrraah." Onix said as he was hit again.

"Now, Let's see if this works! Confuse Onix with your movements!" Alex said as he wanted to have some fun with confusion.

"Alright, Heheh!" Gastly said as he was confused Onix with it's awkward and un-timed movements which confused Onix.

"What's Alex doing?" Serena said as Clemont knew what Alex was trying to do.

"Of course! He's trying to confuse Onix with every move to go and hopefully get him looking bad." Clemont said as he explained what Alex was doing.

"Go Gastly!" Bonnie cheered on as Grant needed something to stop this.

"Well then, Onix. Be prepared and use Iron Tail." Grant said as he needed to stop Alex's funny strategy.

"Iron..." Onix said as he charged up Iron tail on his rocky tail.

"Heh, Heh, Hah!" Gastly said as he kept cheeky and messed up Onix's movements with his head.

"TAIL!" Onix said as he swung his tail fast toward Gastly but he was to slow and confused where he missed.

"Now, Lick it!" Alex said as he needed to attack after the miss.

"Raah! Lick!" Gastly said as he dodged and hit a lick on him.

"Grroah!" Onix cried out as it seemed more powerful than ever.

"Come on, Onix! I know you can do it! Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he was cheering on Onix with a sudden spirit he had.

"Rockk Toombbbb!" Onix said as he fired off one last rock tomb that were suddenly out of nowhere.

"Dodge it!" Alex said as he told Gastly to get out of the way.

"Whoa, Hmph, Heh!" Gastly said as he chuckled in hopes of dodging it, he dodged all the rocks.

"Now, Let's end it! One more Night Shade!" Alex said as he wanted to end this quickly.

"Night Shadeee!" Gastly said as he fired one strong final Night Shade.

"Ooarraahhh..." Onix roared out as he slowly fell backward and slammed his head onto the ground, with his eyes being swirled in defeat of what happened.

"Onix...!" Grant said as he went to see if his Pokemon was out.

"Huh. How about that?" Alex said as the smoke cleared with Onix being defeated by Gastly.

"Onix is unable to battle! Gastly is the winner!" The Referee declared as Onix was out and Alex had a three to one lead.

"Alright! Alex has got the advantage!" Ash said as this seemed like he had it now.

"Nice, Alex! You got this!" Serena cheered on happily as Clemont observed.

"With the paralyze wearing down Onix's health. He was able to hold on long enough to withstand any kind of attacks. So Onix had to faint to paralysis and his speed. Using the speed and manuevers of Gastly really knocked out Onix." Clemont said as he observed and explained the situation since Onix had slowed down from it's paralysis and had it knocked out.

"Thanks. Great job, onix. Please, Return. You are quite a surprise, Alex. It's exactly what Viola warned me about. Plus that strategy can help out too. She advised me not to underestimate you very well, and she was so far quite correct." Grant said as he returned Onix to his Poke Ball, thanking him and told Alex about the situation.

"Let's see what Alex can do to win against the last one." Ash said as he knew what Ash could do against the next one.

"I'm ready for Tyrunt, Grant. I'm ready to go." Alex said as he was ready for Tyrunt now. It was his turn to go.

"Time for my second Pokemon. Tyrunt, let's go!" Grant said as he got Tyrunt's Poke Ball out and was ready, he summoned it to the battlefield.

"GRAAAAGHH!" Tyrunt roared out in hopes of scaring Gastly to no avail.

"There it is. Tyrunt." Ash said as he saw the Tyrunt.

"Tyrunt, It's very good and scary at the same time... That Rock Tomb and Draco Meteor Combo could really be a devastating duo for my team." Alex said as he sweatdropped, knowing all its moves and it can hurt his entire team if he was not even careful once.

"Alright, Alex. What do you do against Tyrunt?" Grant asked in curiousity to the challenger before him.

"HRRAAAGHH!" Tyrunt roared out in hopes of scaring Gastly which to no avail.

"Alright, let's go! Use Night Shade!" Alex said as he wanted to go first.

"Humph! Poison Gas!" Gastly said as he tried to use night shade but used a surprise instead.

"Hurrghh. GUrr..." Tyrunt groaned out as it was slowly poisoned.

"What was that?" Ash said as he was surprised by the new move Gastly did.

"That wasn't night shade at all! That was a new move!" Serena said as she was surprised.

"Oh! That's Poison Gas! It's a move that poisons the target and widdle down their health every turn. Gastly must've learned it somehow during battle!" Clemont said as he explained the new move and what it does. Being surprised Gastly learned it mid-battle.

"Grraahh... Mpphf." Tyrunt groaned out as it was battling the poison.

"Looks like you learned a new move. Now the wall's are really going to scale and crumble. Let's see if you can survive against Tyrunt before the poison gets him, Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he was impressed, now it was a race against the clock to see if Alex would win.

"Grrrghh! ROCK TOMB!" Tyrunt groaned out and shouted as it was fighting Poison and used a fast Rock Tomb.

"Watch out!" Alex said as Gastly was well alerted.

"Whoah, Ghrraagh!" Gastly said as he was slightly nicked by a few rocks.

"Gastly! Hang on!" Alex said as Tyrunt was watching from below.

"Hmph, Hrragh." Tyrunt grunted out before feeling the effects of poison.

"Now, Lick!" Alex said as he needed it to slow and simmer it down.

"Erraahh.." Gastly said as he charged with another lick.

"Dragon Tail!" Grant said, not going to let it happen.

"Dragon... Tail!" Tyrunt said as Tyrunt charged ahead with a Dragon tail and missed him the first time.

"Hmph! Lick!" Gastly said as he avoided it and managed to hit it.

"Grgh! HRAH!" Tyrunt cried out as he was hit before whacking Gastly right into a rock with Dragon tail.

"Gah!" Gastly said as he was extremely injured.

"Wow, Tyrunt is more aggressive now instead of being soft and easy! This looks bad for Alex." Clemont said as he realized how strong and aggressive tyrunt was unlike the last match.

"Come on, Alex!" Ash said as he wanted his friend to win.

"You can win, Alex! Come on!" Pikachu said as he cheered on.

"Now, Crunch!" Grant said as he went for the final move.

"Graaaghgh! Crunch!" Tyrunt guttered as it fought poison and charged right at the rock where Gastly was at.

"Ruh?! GRrraaagghhh! oough." Gastly guttered out before Tyrunt crunched Gastly and the entire rock which caused smaller rocks to scatter.

"No, Gastly!" Alex cried out as Gastly had swirls on his eyes and was defeated by the Tyrunt.

"Gastly is unable to battle! Tyrunt is the winner!" The Referee declared as now the battle was a two on one.

"Thank you, Gastly. You were fighting real hard. And I appreciate it." Alex said as he returned Gastly to his Poke Ball and thanked him.

"So, How do you like Tyrunt? Pretty tough, is he not?" Grant said as Tyrunt leaped back to his side still poisoned but he was fighting it.

"Very. I like his strength and power. And from Ash's battle, I want to see how I can do with his power from what i would see to the top of the cliff to earn the badge." Alex said as he really appreciated that Grant wanted to show off how Tyrunt was doing.

"I like your passion, so. Can you climb it?" Grant said as he wondered about Alex unable to reach the top.

"Hmm, Pidgey! You're next! Go!" Alex said as he summoned out his next Pokemon.

"Here we go!" Pidgey said as he was soaring high in the air.

"I see, Pidgey is a flying-type and Tyrunt is a rock type, Pidgey is at a disadvantage from my rock type gym. But can he prevail?" Grant explained to Alex as he wondered if this was the way to go?

"Let's see. Go! Pidgey! Peck!" Alex said as Pidgey charged in with a Peck to Tyrunt.

"Rock Tomb!" Grant said as Tyrunt summoned out the rocks which spun and headed to Pidgey.

"Not again!" Bonnie said as she knew that was bad.

"Now, Use Peck on the Rocks! Use Peck Tomb Climb!" Alex said as he knew how to use the idea smartly.

"Peck! Peck! Peck!" Pidgey said as he pecked and bounced off the rocks with no problem.

"Wow, Even alex is copying your strategy Ash." Serena said as she looked at Ash with amazement.

"Alright! That's how he does it!" Ash said as he was impressed.

"Say Ash, how come you used that techinque that we never saw?" Clemont said as he wondered where Ash got this from.

"Well..." Ash said as he had a flashback way before-hand on the climb.

Flashback before Gym Battle

"Hey, Alex. Can I ask you something?" Ash said as he asked Alex something which Alex looked at him..

"What is it, Ash?" Alex said as Ash wanted to do something.

"Can you use Ancient Power with Dunsparce on Pikachu? I believe I got a plan." Ash said to offer Alex something, Alex nodded as they got to a nearby field and Alex had Dunsparce out to Ash's Pikachu.

"Alright. Dunsparce! Ancient Power! Go!" Alex said as he made his move in the flashback.

"Ancient Power!" Dunsparce said as he summoned out an Ancient Power and sent it to Pikachu.

"Okay, Pikachu, Use Iron Tail on the Rocks!" Ash said as he wanted to use Iron Tail to knock them back.

"Right! Iron Tail!" Pikachu said as he was deflecting the rocks from Ancient Power.

"Humph." Dunsparce said as he managed to get out of the way.

"So, Do you need more practice?" Alex asked as Ash shook his head with a smile, now he got it perfectly.

"No. I think I got it." Ash said as he had it under control, he could knock rocks back.

END OF FLASHBACK

"Yeah. That was before Alex let go of Dunsparce." Ash finished off the flashback well.

"That's some amazing thinking." Alex said as he knew it was thinking hard.

"You know, I feel like your counters have some amazing potential but it won't mean a lot. Dragon Tail!" Grant said as he was impressed with his strategy and counters to his Tyrunt to handle.

"Double Team, Go!" Alex said as he wanted to waste more poison on Tyrunt.

"Double Team, Double Team!" Pidgey said as he made duplicates of himself and tried to fake out Tyrunt.

"Dragon Tail! Hurah, Raah! Grragh!" Tyrunt grunted as he jumped very high and was wiping out the copies like he did to Fletchling.

"Now, use Peck!" Alex said as he was ready to surprise Tyrunt.

"Peck!" Pidgey said as he swooped from above and hit him.

"Hruah! Huh?" Tyrunt groaned out as he was hit, poison also chipped damage which delayed dragon tail as tyrunt looked up at a diving pidgey.

"Now, For the trick I learned! Steel Wing!" Alex said as he wanted to show another move.

"Aah!" The Group gasped as they saw Pidgey high up in the air.

"Here it comes!" Ash said excitingly.

"Take this!" Pidgey said as he hit him with a steel wing.

"Grraah! Grr! HYNAH!" Tyrunt groaned out by Steel wing before he whacked Pidgey with his dragon tail to the ground.

"Oh!?" The group gasped as they saw Pidgey suffered the same fate.

"No way!" Alex said as the dust settled.

"Oof! oouurghhh." Pidgey guttered it out before slamming to the ground with swirls on his eyes and was defeated by Tyrunt.

"Pidgey is unable to battle! Tyrunt is the winner!" The Referee declared as now it was a one on one battle.

"Pidgey, Return... Man. Thank you so much. Mmph." Alex said as he returned Pidgey to his Poke Ball and thanked him before looking up at Grant and his Tyrunt with a stern look on his face.

"Tyrunt is really strong, despite the poison. The Wall is crumbling for you. How do you respond to this? It will come to a close battle to win it." Grant said as he knew Tyrunt helped him out multiple times.

"Well, With a battle with a gym leader like you. It really excites me to step up to the journey and I know I will win this! I promise this. Now, Let's try to win this unlike last time, Go! Magnemite!" Alex said as he was really fired up and excited to win now.

"Brrrz..." Magnemite said as he knew the tyrunt well.

"I remember someone with that Magnemite, lets see if it can climb the wall very well!" Grant said as he knew this magnemite well, it was Mike's alright.

"Alright, Use Thunder Shock!" Alex said as he was ready to go.

"Thunder Shoockkk!" Magnemite said as he hit a thunder shock to Tyrunt.

"Grraghh! Urk, Mmmph..." Tyrunt groaned out as he was hit, then shocks came out of him as he was poisoned and paralyzed at the same time.

"Tyrunt. He's slowed down!" Grant said as he realized this.

"Paralysis! That's what's going on, he's poisoned and paralyzed at the same time, making Tyrunt slowly get weaker and slower. This might be the chance!" Alex whispered to himself, now there was a chance to win!

"Awesome! Alex can win this!" Ash said as he knew Alex can win.

"Remember, Magnemite has a history against this tyrunt and he lost, but with his training. I know he can win, Mike was right with his Magnemite being out of control, now we have to take advantage." Clemont said as he knew Magnemite well and told them about Mike.

"Let's hope the training pays off!" Serena said, will it pay off?

"Go Magnemite! You can do it!" Bonnie cheered on for Magnemtie.

"Go, Magnemite!" Dedenne said as he cheered on.

"Hmm, Draco Meteor!" Grant said as he wanted to give alex a warm welcome.

"Draco..." Tyrunt said as he opened his mouth and pointed it to the sky.

"Use Magnet Bomb to stall it!" Alex said as he hoped to stop it.

"Hrrrgh..." Tyrunt said as he slowly charged more.

"Magnettt Bommbb!" Magnemite said as he fired Magnet Bomb into Tyrunt's mouth.

"Grraagghhh! Huff!" Tyrunt cried out as it stopped using Draco Meteor.

"No way, that was fast!" Grant said as he realized how quick it was.

"Now, Sonic Boom!" Alex said as he wanted a sonic boom.

"Ssooonic Boom!" Magnemite said as it was hitting Tyrunt which was not affected.

"Hurrragh! Grrraggh!" Tyrunt cried out as it emerged okay but the poison kicked in for more damage.

"Alright! Crunch." Grant said as he wanted to knock magnemite back.

"Huragh! Crunch!" Tyrunt said as he charged ahead and let Magnemite get hit by it's jaws.

"Gaaagghh... Still, functionable." Magnemite cried out as he was hit directly by a strong jawed crunch from Tyrunt

"Use Thunder Shock! And dodge the next move!" Alex said as he wanted to have a plan.

"Thunder Shock!" Magnemite said as he fired off

"Grragh... Hmph!" Tyrunt said as he was hit again.

"Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he commanded a rock tomb.

"Roockk Tomb!" Tyrunt said as it fired off rock tomb.

"Calculating, route enabled. Hurmph. Humph!" Magnemite said as he used his skills to dodge the entire rock tomb without issue.

"It seems Magnemite has found it's footing, but now. Dragon Tail!" Grant said as he realized Magnemite was playing nothing but games.

"Dragon... Tail!" Tyrunt said as he jumped in the air and headed to Magnemite.

"Now, Magnet Bomb." Alex said as he needed to hurry.

"Magnet Bomb!" Magnemite said as he fired off a Magnet bomb.

"Draco Meteor!" Grant said as he wanted to crush Alex's hopes.

"Draco METEOR! Grrgh..." Tyrunt said as he fired off a fast draco meteor before he was hit by Magnet Bomb, soon meteors began to fall from Tyrunt's draco meteor. This caused the group to gasp in worry and shock of fear.

"Sonic Boom Climb!" Alex said as the group was startled to see this one coming.

"Sonic Boom! Sonic Boom! Sonic Boom!" Magnemite said as he used Sonic Boom to climb up the Meteors, dodging them in the process.

"Oh wow! He's using my strategy! A Sonic Boom climb!" Ash said as he knew Alex was using the same idea and strategy.

"Impressive!" Clemont said as he was amazed.

"Wow, Wow, Wow!" Bonnie said excitingly on the sidelines.

"Now then, Thunder Shock!" Alex said as he went for another weak move.

"Thunder Shock!" Magnemite said as he fired off a thunder shock.

"Grrraghhh... Hmarrgh." Tyrunt grunted as he was hit, and the poison kicked in again. Tyrunt fell onto one leg and got up.

"He's still going. You can keep going, right Magnemite?" Alex asked to Magnemite who noticed Tyrunt still stood tall.

"Yes. I can still go on!" Magnemite said as he was focused despite being beated up by Tyrunt.

"Go Magnemite! Go Alex!" Bonnie cheered on for Alex and Magnemite.

"Let's see how Magnemite does this next attack." Clemont said as he wondered how much more this will go on.

"Hmph, It seems like Magnemite is to keep going on after this." Grant said as he knew both were holding on.

"Keep going! Use Sonic Boom!" Alex said as he wanted Magnemite to stay strong.

"Sonic Boom!" Magnemite said as it used a stronger sonic boom.

"Grrraggh!" Tyrunt said as he was hit directly by Sonic boom but still stood.

"Tyrunt is still standing!" Ash said as Tyrunt was badly beaten but still walking.

"How much more can either of these Pokemon go?!" Serena said as she wondered how long it will take.

"It won't be long before one of them takes the fall." Clemont said as one of them will fall.

"Oohhh." Bonnie moaned out as she wondered how it will end.

"Now, It's time for end this with my favorite move to end the wall! Rock Tomb!" Grant said as he wanted to end the battle here and now.

"Roccck.. Toomb...!" Tyrunt said as it used one final strong Rock Tomb.

"Now. it's time to end this with a favorite move of mine! Magnet Bomb!" Alex said as he wanted to end with his favorite move.

"Magnet Bomb!" Magnemite said as Magnet Bomb and Rock tomb clashed once again but Magnet Bomb prevailed and smashed into Tyrunt several times.

"Huuh!? GRrrraahh!" Tyrunt gasped out as it was directly hit. The explosion was hit directly.

"GRRAAAHHH! Oohhh.. Oaahhh..." Tyrunt growled as he stared at Magnemite and shouted as the paralysis and poison seemed to finally did a number as it felt a sharp pain somewhere before falling down on it's rock standing on. Tyrunt had swirls on his eyes, defeated by the fact he lost.

"Tyrunt!" Grant called out, Tyrunt lost the battle.

"Tyrunt is unable to continue battling! The winner is Magnemite! Meaning the victory goes to the challenger: Alex!" The referee declared as that was the battle! Alex had won against Grant!

"I won...? I won! Haah! Magnemite! You did it!" Alex said as he tried to get his composure and smiled in joy as he and Magnemite had smiled a hard fought victory.

"Well, well. You've done it. That Magnemite really has done it alright. You've gotten past me." Grant said as he had lost twice but couldn't help but smile.

"Yeah, I truly climbed up the wall to beat you. It really took a strong step to get there." Alex said as he was happy with the group coming over to check how it went.

"Yep, And now, I want to award you the Cliff Badge. Congrats, Alex." Grant said as he had to award Alex of a fought battle.

"Thank you. I've done it! I got myself the cliff badge!" Alex said as he celebrated his own way of getting the cliff badge.

"Hooray!" Pidgey, Magnemite and Gastly cheered happily as Alex put it in his badge case in a way of victory.

Transition: Cyllage City Gym Entrance, Sunset

"Tell me Ash, Alex. Have you already decided which gym you'll challenge for your third Kalos Gym badge?" Grant said as soon they won, he asked them a big question for both trainers.

"Nope. Guess I better start thinking about that." Ash said as he realized they should start thinking of the next gym place they should go.

"What gyms are there for us?" Alex said as Serena had an idea on her mind on her GPS.

"I've got an idea! I know the perfect place we should go to next!" Serena said as she struck an idea to the group which got their attention.

"Where?" Alex said as Serena pulled out her GPS and showed them on the picture what looked to be a tower of some sorts.

"The Shalour City Gym. There's the tower of Mastery nearby and i've always wanted to go see it." Serena said as she told them the location and the nameof the place where she wanted to see it next.

"Yes, Shalour City. Good choice. It's quite nice." Grant said as he looked over and was impressed on the group's choice to go next.

"Shalour city, sounds good to me." Ash said as he was accepting toward Shalour City as the next place to go.

"I think you'll both have quite a different battle experience at the Shalour Gym than your typical battle." Grant said as he knew it was a lot of different than their battle against Grant, that's for certain.

"What kind of different experience is that?" Ash asked about the Gym typing. What was it going to be?

"And.. what type gym is it? Steel? Ice?" Alex asked, what typing would they fight next?

"You'll find out when you get there. But I can guarantee you another challenging and fierce wall for you both to climb." Grant said as he didn't want to spoil anything for them as he wanted to keep it a secret and surprise to let them know.

"Hah!" Ash gasped as now he was more eager to see as now that was the next location.

"So. Our goal is set then." Alex said as now they were set on going to Shalour City for the next gym badge.

"Great! Then I'm going to Shalour City for my next gym badge!" Ash said as he declared the next location on their Kalos Journey.

"And that's that." Serena said as the path was set, Shalour City was next!

"More adventures!" Bonnie exclaimed as she was excited to go continue their adventures.

"This should be fun! I'm just wondering what kind of gym it is." Clemont said as he was more excited for more adventures.

"One more thing. Let's have a rematch at the battle chateau." Grant said as he offered a rematch next time at the chateau where he would be stronger.

"You bet!" Ash said as he accepted it.

"If I find my mother here in the Kalos region, grant. I guarantee you. It's a one hundred percent promise!" Alex said as he looked at Grant as a solid promise, he wanted to battle him again at the Chateau.

"But, Ash. If you want to have a battle with Grant at the battle chateu, don't you need to have the noble title of Grand Duke?" Serena said as she realized Ash needed to be the title of Grand Duke to battle Grant again.

"Yeah, you're right." Ash said as he realized what Serena said was right, but Alex shook his head.

"Don't worry, if thats the case. If my mother lives here in Kalos, I promise to stay then I'll work my way up there." Alex said as he knew that they would meet up in the battle chateau if he was going to stay in Kalos.

"I can do that. It's all part of becoming a Pokemon Master!" Ash said as he knew it was part of his goal to become a Pokemon Master and the road up ahead.

"Say yes on that!" Pikachu said as the group knew where to go next.

Following two tough battles with Grant at the Cyllage City Gym. Both Ash and Alex have earn themselves their second Kalos gym badge, the cliff badge. Now our heroes set their sights on Shalour City as the journey continues!
