Chapter Four
Moments
"So, its time huh?" A human male says as he looks over a small box case, opening it up revealing three odd looking firearms with numerous vials next to them. Pulling one out revealing it to be a type of one in the chamber tranq-gun.
"Yep, boss wants the girl alive and we need to get her without the Monsters knowing. Don't know why we are doing this after Kite, James, and Ron all died a few days prior, but it is what the boss ordered." Another says as he pulls out a vial to examine the purple liquid inside. "So what is in this thing, its not your common tranq-round for sure." He asks as he looks to the first Human.
The first looks to the second as he smirks. "Magic-breakers with a grade four tranq mixed in, normally we use grade four for hunting larger prey… but this stuff its mixed with breaks it down once exposed to organic tissue. It will last as long as an extra strength grade two. So we will have forty-seven minutes after we hit her to get the hell out. They are sending that fucking fish-bitch as security." The first says as his green eyes look to his companion. "Where is Blake? She should be here by now…"
The second companion scoffs as he looks towards a large jeep. A woman with black hair and purple eyes looks over her phone with a very stotic expression. "Bitch is just fucking around on her phone still. Why do we need her again?" He says as the first snarls.
"Shut up, unless you want Cornelis to hear you talking shit again about his daughter. I personally don't want to help with anymore of his experiments…" The green eyed man says as a chuckle catches them both offguard.
"As nice as it would be to do so… this mission is too important to torment you two… much as I would love to see you squirm again Chris." A white haired man says as he walks next to the two, causing them to bolt up right. "Kiric remember, you must not hit a Monster with any of these darts. The last we need is to kill anyone, least we start another true war between the Monsters. They truly will not care if the girl vanishes in the least after a while…" Cornelis says as his blue eyes turns to 'Blake'. "My daughter will be the one to capture and secure her once she is sedated. She knows what is at risk, and knows this is the only choice she has least she is removed and turned into…an interesting subject for the boss's entertainment." The two men suddenly felt really bad for the girl.
"Yes sir…" Kiric says as his green eyes look to the brown eyes of Chris. "Chris start the car, we set out ahead of them. They should be heading towards the eastern side in four hours."
five hours later…
Frisk stares out into the brightness of the caves they drive through, the place was...thriving. There was a whole 'nother community in the Underground, some of the more exotic looking Monsters lived down here, and she could practically feel the magic around her. It wasn't as many on the surface, but enough to manage a large underground world essentially. A snow-covered town is where they drove through first, so early into the cave and it was baffling that it was snowing and bright as day when they did.
A section of the road went through a waterfall, with a glowing barrier-shield to prevent it from washing vehicles off the road she stares in awe. Undyne was amused seeing the girl's expression. Toriel couldn't help but smile as they drove.
While not driving through, Frisk saw a large structure surrounded by lava… no wait three massive structures.
"Hey what is over there?" She asks looking back to Asriel.
"That is the reactor. It generates all the power for the underground and the city too… we have a lot of other power places around, but they are mainly for show." Undyne says as she looks at Frisk. "Next to that is Alphys' lab. She works down here mostly when she isn't needed on the surface. So if you need anything medically you can find her there." Frisk felt a little scared as she shrinks under Undyne's stare, while holding no real emotion in it, she still felt the glare from earlier.
Undyne flinches slightly seeing Frisk's eyes meet hers then look away, in addition to pulling back abit. Turning back towards the road, she looks out towards Alphys' lab. 'Gah why do I need to bother… let just get this shit done so I can go back to killing people who want to fuck with Asgore.' A mental sigh as she realizes that includes Frisk's opinion of her and how she treated Frisk too. Seeing her back at the bar, she didn't think much considering she was rather shit-faced, not that many would know that she becomes so much tamer than her day-to-day face, or that is how she prefers to act when around a young-skeleton.
'Gah damn it! Now I got his stupid voice nagging me in my head. This weekend is going to suck… Atleast I can perhaps visit Alphys some. That should be fun.' A sly smile as she gives a rather perverse chuckle with her eye locked to the lab. Toriel glances with a slight look of disgust, while the two teens could only imagine what weird things she was imagining. Behind the kids Caroline sat in the back seat of the entire vehicle. She was quiet and was putting on a sickly sweet smile towards Undyne, one that no one had noticed…
It wasn't long till they arrived in another section of the Underground, after they passed through the massive city section, they were in another forest, yet it was more like the forests from the surface, with the curious light shining like a warm summer day. Frisk stares in awe as she looks about, they arrived at what appeared to be a small campsite area. An old fire pit sat surrounded by three sizeable logs. The ground worn with tent markings and pathways, this was a well-loved spot for many families for many years it seems.
"Alright, Lets get camp setup kids." Toriel says as she turns to Undyne. "Undyne, could you and Caroline gather wood?" She asks, getting a sigh from the Fish-monster as everyone begins to climb out.
Toriel walks around to the back of the vehicle before opening it up, having Frisk and Asriel gather tent supplies while Chara was carrying their backpacks. Undyne rolls her eye as she looks to Caroline and motions for her to follow.
The two begin to walk away from the group as Undyne glances at Caroline again.
"So your the brat's guardian huh?" Undyne asks as she turns back to the woodlands before them, stopping once she noticed plenty of branches on the ground.
"I prefer being called parent." Caroline says calmly as she begins to gather some of the free branches about.
"Teh, why would you want to be a parent to a human brat? Much less a hybri-" A snap caught her attention as she turns to see Caroline staring at her with a sickly sweet smile… and for some reason she felt like something was wrong.
"If I ever hear you act that way about Frisk again in front of me…" Caroline says ever so calmly, Undyne's eye looks into Caroline and saw the one thing she saw in Toriel's eyes when she accidentally hurt Asriel when he was four, then it finally clicked in her head. An old memory of a Human whom before Asriel's birth came by with their own swollen belly. The eyes matched, her personality matched Toriel's just like...
'Oh fuck me… So they weren't lying fuck…' The two gathered in silence as Undyne sits against a tree before sighing. "I am sorry. I shouldn't have said that…" She replies as she tries to find the words to say to her elder.
"Indeed." Caroline says nonchalantly as she continues to gather sticks. "You are as rude as always, that is for certain." Undyne turns towards Caroline with a frown before looking to the treetops.
'Guess I always was a dick to her… always delaying her from seeing Toriel and them, despite how friendly they all were.' The two gathered their wood as Undyne decides to stop. "Go on ahead, I will cut down a tree or two for some true firewood. This kindling wont last forever or burn right for a good meal." Caroline nods as she leaves. Undyne sets her wood down as she summons a spear in her hand.
As Caroline arrives back, it becomes a sight of Asriel chasing Chara around the camp with anger in his eyes. Frisk was covering her face, hints of red peek around her hands. She smiles at the sight, she may not have gotten to see what happened, but something tells hers that Chara was having fun teasing them.
Caroline walks up to where Toriel setup a small fire-pit. Toriel smiles as she claps her hands.
"Alright, since we are staying here for our training this weekend, I wanted to go ahead and try to see if where everyone is with a basic heating spell originally, however after learning it you hadn't been trained any magic I think its best if we start how we used to unlock magic and train it. If I had known I would have used this method in class that first day." Toriel says as she motions for Caroline, Frisk, and Asriel to come forth towards the camp fire
"Asriel will you go get the Floya Stones from the car please?" Toriel asks as she has them gather around, Chara watches from the side as Undyne walks back into the camp.
"Basics huh? So why is our prince repeating this? He was tossing fireballs at me last time I sparred with him." Undyne says as she stands next to Chara.
"Asriel's magic was good, now with his soul getting a more potent magic flowing through it, his control has all but destroyed. His magic is stronger however at the same time its causing Frisk's control to be non-existent. From what I heard, before it happened Frisk managed to make a light orb just over a meter in size with pure white light instead of one with a hint of orange or gray." Chara says as the group starts to mess with a small blue stones, hovering it gently in their hands. Chara's eyes look to Asriel
"That is also with the special stones they have now, I asked Asriel about where he got such a weird accessory, but Gaster gave him and his friends a special magic device essentially. This is with their boosts now, I fear without neither may be able to use magic for a while." He says with a frown. "To think I could have possibly been there, pushed to be with them for a while to stay out of the house despite my punishment… neither of them would have to be at an absolute disadvantage against anything now." Chara says quietly, Undyne looks down to the young teen before smirking.
"Well, let me put this firewood up and we can begin your training, can't be left behind right? After all gotta protect your family." Undyne says looking back at the four. Chara glances at Undyne curiously when he saw a hint of regret in her face, she was never any good at hiding everything despite her constant tough-gal act she has going.
Undyne walks nearby and sets down the bulk of the wood she gathered, motioning for Chara to follow her as the two went to where she was cutting wood a short walk from the group, once they were away from the group, Undyne takes a boxer style stance as Chara takes his own.
"So, let me get this straight. We are to watch for a chance to kidnap this human girl whom we believe is learning magic and bring her to our boss to offer her a place in our criminal line of work. You sure she will side with us instead of the Monsters? From what I have been told she is quite fond of them…" Chris asks as the trio drives carefully through an unmarked roadway.
"If she don't then she becomes a tool for us, we use her to get Asgore of the Mountain. Once we have him we knock down the pecking order and disrupt them long enough to turn her from a normal magic carrier to a brood mother of an army. Her daughters will receive a choice, fight or breed." Kiric says with a snarl on his face. Obviously not liking the plan at all. The black haired female in the back was refusing to even look at the two men up front.
"Heh well if she is pretty as-" Chris finds himself feeling a sharp jab from Kiric.
"I don't even want to hear it from you. If you so much as touch a hair on her her I will make sure your wife knows, and both of your daughters. I am sure you recall how close your eldest was to castrating you for that hooker, how do you think they will feel to hear you assaulted a seventeen year old. Besides, the first year with us she will be in the indoctrination chamber either way, just to make a good lil' follower."
Chris's face drains of color. "I will be good… jeeze dude, I was… Okay I will shut up." He had glanced at Kiric to see a very dangerous look in his partner's eyes. Blake behind them was already glaring at Chris with disgust.
'What should I do Va'va?' her mind wanders as she looks down to a slight blue orb wrapped with hand-made yarn sized rope. A worn emblem of the Dreemurr family barely visible to those closely looking at it. 'I wish I could be free of them… make them pay for what they did to you.'
"So tell me again why we sent our current trump card into the den of Monsters?" A human asks, wearing a white coat as they walk up to the white haired man from before whom was looking into a microscope.
"My daughter Blake while strong is useless if she cannot use magic. If she cannot capture one whom can, she will just breed more stronger soldiers once this growth booster I am making is finished." Cornelis says as he sighs his brown eyes look up with a lack of care. "For it was just a fluke she was born, the mother died before we could make more off-spring with better suited humans."
"I see… by the way sir, when I went to deliver his daily dose of Substance # 4, I noticed one of the vials was missing." Cornelis raises an eye brow.
"is that so? Well we should hope whom ever stole it does not consume it; that won't be a person anymore but a beast needing to be put down." Cornelis says as he turns back to his microscope, the other human sighs as he walks away.
Over the course of their first two hours Frisk showed some progress of the new task they were practicing. Each of them holding a stone hovering and giving a gentle glow in their hands. Frisk's no longer threatened to seemingly launch itself from its own vibrating actions. While Asriel's and Caroline's floated perfectly still with a gentle rotation. It was far from stable however as it tumbled with ease and in different directions. Toriel smiles as she looks over the progress they made. She feared it was going to be difficult, however it proved to be easier than she expected. She ponders if this has something to do with the human side of the soul… an ability to be of physical form, does that mean their magic doesn't need to divert any control to the body's construction.
These were just speculations she quickly notes off for discussing with Gaster and Alphys, both would be interested in this new development. Frisk sighs as she lets the stone fall into her hand as she leans back against the log, a layer of sweat on her forehead, Asriel and Caroline's fur was slightly damp however no where near as soaked as Frisk was from her use of magic constantly. Toriel stands up and walks over as she checks Frisk over and sighs.
"Let us call it for magic practice right now and rest up. I will start some food, Asriel you want to lead them to the spring to wash up a bit, no need to stay all sweaty." Toriel says as she conjures up a small orb of fire and gently lays it into the fire place before throwing some small sticks to start with.
Asriel offers his hand to Frisk as he stands up, Caroline following suit as Frisk takes Asriel's hand and lets him pull her up onto her feet, catching his arm as she steadies her self as he smiles at her.
"You alright?" He asks as she nods.
"Yeah… don't think I have ever worked up such a sweat before." She says as he chuckles.
"Seems you also wore yourself out. Don't push yourself so hard alright, just hold on and I will lead the way okay?" He says as she nods as holds onto his arm as a crutch while being lead. Caroline smiles as she follows suit meanwhile Chara could be seen heading the same direction from the edge of the camp as Undyne walks in and groans as she takes a seat next to Toriel.
"I see your already stressed." Toriel says with a gentle smile as Undyne rolls her face into her hands.
"How the heck did you put up with me as a kid? I swear Chara has much anger as I do…" Toriel gives a small chuckle as she begins to place a pot over the fire.
"It wasn't that hard. I am quite used to it compared to Caroline and most." Toriel says as she starts to walk towards a bag of supplies. "You had lost your mother and it was completely understandable for your anger, I guess you learned to use it to fuel yourself to keep going, Chara no matter what is just doing the same. It is why I always liked him training with you, cause I felt it was a way to help channel that anger. While I had hoped Brax would help him try to find a better way of living instead of such anger." Toriel says as she grabs the bag and heads back to Undyne.
"Tch, lets face it I was a piece of crap compared to most Monsters. Even Caroline doesn't really care for me now… Why do you guys keep me around it seems I am just…" Undyne groans. "Gah what the hell is with me…"
"You see what I think so far everyone has seen in Frisk, someone special, even I have questioned my stature with Asgore's choice of work… if I had to choose between living peacefully or fighting to protect the spark I felt when saw Asriel's eyes shined after Frisk's arrival… I would protect the future of my family. Just like I did for you that time." A hitched breath as Undyne glances up at Toriel.
"I… nearly forgot about that." Undyne sits up and rubs her eye patch with a frown. "The day I…"
"I am surprised, then again… you lost your only friend then." Toriel says as saw Undyne nod.
"I havn't visited Saya's grave in years… I should really visit." Toriel sighs as she looks at Undyne.
"Saya would yell at you for being this way." Toriel says as she looks at Undyne. "Undyne I get you have not opened up to anyone since, not even to Alphys." Undyne stiffens as she glances at Toriel with a sheepish look. "However this cannot keep going on, how many years has it been?" The tomboy Monster sighs as she looks away.
"A little over twenty years… I think, it happened what when I was fifteen, last I saw Caroline as a human was when I was twenty-six? She was what… thirty-five? I-"
"It has been its been twenty-eight years… almost three decades." Toriel says as she looks at Undyne.
"T-Twenty eight?! I… I havn't been to the grave in.. t-twenty years. Oh dust…" Toriel nods.
"You should tell Alphys, open up to her, you know the only reason she has become your bed-partner is because she loves you. Your never going to get further if you don't try." Toriel says as Undyne looks to the floor.
"I- Your right. Is it possible for us to visit Alphys some time later? Perhaps its time I speak to her…" Undyne says as she looks to the stone sky of gemstones and light.
Meanwhile Asriel was sitting down next to Frisk as he used a damn rag to wash away some sweat as Frisk wipes away her own sweat. Caroline smiles at the two as she wipes away some of her own sweat. 'Reminds me of me and Egel when I first met him, he was so much more responsible back then. Asriel if they get together will be good for Frisk' Caroline smiles until she heard a distant vehicle, driving a bit deeper into the forest.
'Huh? Didn't Toriel tell me this morning that no one else would be out here for this weekend?' Caroline shook her head. No, Toriel definitely wouldn't be mistaken either… it had to be her own fears just thinking about the attack. It wouldn't be the first time she heard phantom sounds… for the first she heard was the cry of baby after she learned she was pregnant with Frisk after getting home. 'I must be over-stressed.'
"Mom?" Frisk calls out as Caroline jumps in her spot to see Frisk looking at her.
"Y-Yes? Sorry I kinda zoned out…" Caroline says with a gentle smile as Frisk frowns.
"Are you okay? You have been spacing out when I saw you earlier too…" Frisk asks as Caroline's softens.
"Yes dear, it just has been a bit of a roller coaster of stress the past few days. I am fine my dear Vert'rae. Now kids… that means you too Chara." Caroline says getting them to look over to see Chara next to them wiping his face. Only to stop and stare to give a 'huh' sound. "Why don't you go see if Toriel is ready. I will finish up and meet with you three shortly." Caroline's soft expression and gentle words worked well as Frisk nods. Asriel smiles and waves as the trio take their leave. Caroline sighs as she shakes her head, grabbing the cloth and dampening in the water again.
"Egel, why couldn't you do the right thing…" Caroline says shortly after seeing the children leave earshot. She looks out to the water as she gives a slight nod as she clears her head. "Perhaps its time for us to go visit my mother's home… I wonder if mother is still around." A smirk grows on her lips. "What a surprise she would be in for with my new body…"
Frisk and Asriel were walking back as Chara follows behind. Chara looking at Frisk with curiousity as he hums.
"Everything alright Chara?" Asriel asks as he glances to see his younger brother in thought.
"Yeah… Hey Frisk why does your mother call you "Vert'rae" back there? Doesn't that mean 'Golden Eyes' in old-speech?" Frisk nods as she smiles gently.
"Yeah, my mother has always been fluent speaking the old human tongue… I think she once told me she wanted to be an archaeologist for old Human and Monster relics, like the ruins to the east of the mountain." Asriel and Chara both stiffen as Frisk mentions the ruins. She stops and looks at them. "What is wrong?" She asks confused, Asriel frowns at Frisk.
"Frisk those ruins belong to an old, yet still active group of Monster hunters. They have no love for anyone with Monster forms like Me or your mother." Asriel says as he looks with a frown. "Even if you associate with Monsters, your an enemy…" Frisk's eyes widen as she looks to the ground slightly.
"O-Oh…" Frisk says with worry. "D-Do we need to worry they may-" Asriel shakes his head.
"They never go past the forest sight line from what I remember my father telling me. They believe that everything out of sight is an ambush opportunity for Monsters to attack. So we don't have to worry about them pushing out here." Asriel says getting a sigh of relief. Chara frowns as he glances up to the ceiling of the mountain.
"However… what about that group Asgore told us to be alert for… a traveling nomad group of Human and Monsters? Didn't he say they were not very open to initial greetings?" Chara asks as Asriel nods.
"Right… the Nomads, we shouldn't have to worry as they don't really attack, but are not against to forcibly removing people from their camp grounds." Asriel says as he shakes his head. "Either way we shouldn't have to worry."
Frisk nods, yet the lingering doubt resides in her chest as she hopes her mother never tries to go to the ruins to the east now. The three continue on at a slow pace, Asriel noticing Frisk's worry still about he messes with Chara before retelling a tale of Chara and him when they first came here…
"And then thinking he could actually pull it off too, ran right at me from the other side only to fall straight in the lake and got absolutely soaked!" Asriel says as Chara glares daggers.
"Your an ass Asriel. I was seven and you had that stupid set of boards hidden under the water just right that I didn't see them!" Chara snarls at his older brother whom just smiles as he looks to the sky. Frisk couldn't help but smile at their antics… Asriel was becoming more open with Chara, and Chara had become more at ease with his brother to act more like family. It was nice to see the change from how Asriel and Chara saw each other initially.
"Alright so we got far enough away from their camp, hopefully they didn't hear the engine, I didn't expect them to be so close to the route." Kiric says as his green eyes scan the area. Blake was setting up the sleeping pods inside their vehicle which was now unfolded. They planned to watch for the day so they could decide how to strike the next.
"Definitely, this thing isn't all that loud with it being an electric engine with the magic converter siphon Cornelis managed to make installed for power." Chris says as he smirks and messes around with one of the tranq-guns as he frowns at the design. "Kiric did you realize these things use fucking gunpowder? This isn't gonna be quiet and its not gonna work with a suppressor." Chris says as he tosses it to Kiric whom catches it. He looks it over and frowns.
"Cornelis expects us to have some sort of resistance back then… what is he wanting to prove? That she is more trouble than she is worth?" Kiric says with a growl as he places the weapon down onto the table. "Its a good thing I decided to pack a little extra. Chris open the truck and start unloading it." He says as he grabs a pair of binoculars and walks off. "I am going to scout first."
Kiric sighs as he walks towards the lake, He gets behind a tree and looks out towards the other end, seeing a female Monster washing her face on the other side he narrows his eyes. Pulling the binoculars up he watches from afar. 'Huh, thought the vulpine sub-species was practically gone…'
Watching from afar he watches as she soon stands up and heads into the forest, he sighs as he knows its dangerous to press forwards for scouting out… if they come to the lake then atleast there is an open spot to watch them.
'What is Cornelis thinking though? Tran-guns with gunpowder cartridges and not the standard air-pump we use for capture and retrieve missions, this don't feel right…' Kiric thinks as he decides to get comfortable to see if anyone else comes to the lake for the time being…
Back at their camp, Blake eyes Chris whom sets down a large crate as he shrugs and opens it up. His eyes light up as he spots a large grin, Blake didn't particularly like the look, to her it meant he found something dangerous, and dangerous meant failure to her. She sees him lift up a large rifle like object, except it had a large opening for the barrel and no place for any munitions.
Chris chuckles as he flicks a switch and the device lights up, an orb on the top of the gun's barreling glows blue as it comes to life. He quickly switches it off.
"This will knock any of those beasts down for a while getting hit with a blast of their own medicine." Chris says before putting it away. Blake had a look of uncertainty in her eyes as she watches from the vehicle.
Time goes by, Frisk and Asriel go through the practice a few more times before it becomes surprisingly dark as if they were still on the surface. Frisk takes a seat next to Asriel as Toriel cooks over the camp fire.
"Today went rather well, you both got the technique down rather well for how bad it was looking at the start. Tomorrow I say we can begin to actually practice with some new tricks to work on refining your control further." Toriel says as she glances at Caroline. "Caroline you did amazing as well, for someone who never used their magic or even tried to at that.
"So Asriel, how do you feel with your magic now?" Chara asks from besides Caroline, his face bandaged up from a rather rough session with Undyne, yet still smirking at his brother whom groans.
"About as skilled as a child still, it blows… but it beats the alternative to what could have been." Asriel says as he smiles at Frisk. "I don't know if I said it yet Frisk, but thanks… thanks for whatever you did to save me." Frisk smiles gently and looks to the ground.
"I- It was nothing, not that I remember what happened besides the attack." Caroline and Toriel both frown, the fact she went through the attack at all was something they felt ashamed of… they knew of the dangers that came with the family however, never did they expect someone to make an attack like that. Asriel smiles as he places his hand on her knee.
"I know, but even though what happened wasn't in your full control… I felt it as your desire to save me. Your determination in those moments despite the gun aimed at us, you refused to let go and save yourself… all I did was buy you some stuff and spend time with you for a couple of days. Honestly, most might think I was trying to buy your attention, but I saw someone whom… truly needed to see some good in someone, and I wanted to be that someone." Asriel says looking at her. Frisk's eyes rises to Asriel's to see his emerald eyes staring softly into her. A gentle blush as she glances away.
"I- uh…" She clears her voice while looking away to hide her blush. "T-Thank you Asriel, I appreciate your kindness." She says, neither of them noticing the three and half sets of eyes on them with large smiles on their faces until…
"Aw you two would be so adorable as a couple…" Caroline says aloud, Frisk and Asriel snap as their faces lighten up.
"Quite, I don't think I seen Asriel be this sweet on a girl before." Toriel says as she gives her own nod. The pair's faces light up further as their faces start to turn bright red.
"Ya'kno reminds me how Alphys use to act around me when we first started to hang out, She was a sweetheart then… now haha…" Undyne says as the two's features fade into the red.
"So… when you two gonna kiss?" Chara says bluntly as two rocks get thrown over his head as he smirks. Frisk and Asriel both stare, Caroline laughs as she sees Frisk actively react to someone for the first time. Frisk's face blanks out as she realizes she threw the rock.
"I-I Didn't-" Chara waves it off.
"Its fine you didn't hit me, besides even if you did-" A marshmallow smashes into his face as he looks at Asriel with a snarl as Asriel just smiles as if he won a ten-hour war. "… Asriel I am going to coat you in melted marshmallows…" Asriel just smiles as he looks to Frisk.
"Your fine Frisk, honestly seeing you react that way was nice. Chara usually deserves stuff tossed at him for his smart mouth." Asriel says as he dodges a marshmellow that flies towards his snout.
"HOW DID YOU DODGE THAT YOU WERE NOT EVEN LOOKING!" Chara yells as he glares at his brother.
"Cause you always aim for the snout first!" Asriel replies getting a laughter from him as he jumps up and runs from Chara whom tosses more at him. Frisk felt her fear and embarrassment wash away as she watches the antics of the two brothers. Caroline and Toriel give their own motherly chuckle watching the antics of the children, as eventually Frisk got hit and ended up joining in the fraye of food being flung.
"Good thing I always pack a few dozen bags of marshmallows." Toriel says with a headshake. "It is good to see them like this again… it has been years since they got along and now its like I have my family back, and my best friend." Caroline smiles at Toriel's words as she nods.
"Yeah. However we should finish food before they get hungry and spoil their appetite with those marshmallows…" Caroline says as Toriel nods in agreement. It wasn't long before everyone had eaten and was setting up their tents and sleeping bags. There were three tents, one for Caroline and Toriel, another for Frisk, Chara, and Asriel and the final one for Undyne as she held the smallest of the three tents. The Trio started to get settled in as Frisk sat outside the tent against a bald tree, staring up into the skyless ceiling of the cave. Staring at the gentle twinkling light of stones above.
"Beautiful aint it?" A voice calls out causing Frisk to turn to see Asriel standing next to her. "I used to stare at 'em all the time when I was younger… I always pictured that if things went different we would have atleast always had this view to keep us hopeful of better days. Now I see them as the same stars in the open sky, without all the light polution." He says taking a seat next to Frisk.
"It is beautiful… I could stay awake and stare all night honestly." Frisk says as she returns her gaze to the sparkling stones.
"Yeah." He responds as he leans back against the same tree next to her. "Hey Frisk… I uh wanted to ask something." He says as he stares into the skyless stars. Frisk glances at him waiting for his response as he stares out. His face seemed a little redder than usual as he glances at her from the corner of his eye then back.
"I-I was wondering… If you were wanting to go out again after all this… j-just the two of us." He says as Frisk's head tilts a little. "Y-Ya'know… l-like a… d-date?" He stumbles his words out as he forces himself to ask. Frisk's eyes widen as she felt a blush.
"O-Oh uh y-yeah sure! I am down for that!" Frisk replies with her voice carrying a tone of surprise and excitement in it.
"Really?!" Asriel asks back as he looks at her. Frisk nods as he smiles at her. "S-Sweet, Then how about I pick you up Tuesday after school around seven for it then?" Frisk nods.
"Works for me." She responds, neither knowing that the other's heart was racing and their stomachs fluttering with joy. Asriel felt his hand reach down to Frisk's as they found them selves staring off into the skyless stars again, moment overwhelmingly beaten by their soon exhaustion as the two were now leaning against each other asleep. Frisk's head resting on Asriel's shoulder and his head gently against her head.
Caroline came out of her tent to check on the children as she was about to go to sleep herself to see the sight before her. The two were asleep and as comfortable as they could be in that moment, and she saw their hands held together, she smiles as she turns back and motions for Toriel to see, whom had to fight back the urge to not only take a picture, but the tears of joy growing in her eyes.
A click is heard as the two turn to see Undyne and Chara smiling with glee as the two chuckle as they check over the photo and showed Toriel. Both Toriel and Caroline sigh and shake their head… Those two were unable to resist the opportunity to tease the pair… and they couldn't stop them. However it did bring a soft genuine smile to Undyne's face.
After getting Asriel and Frisk into the tent carefully not to wake them, Caroline was about to enter her tent again when Undyne walks up to her.
"Caroline, do you have a second?" Caroline stands up and looks at the Fish Monster before nodding, the two step away from the tent and move towards the burnt out campfire.
"What do you wish to speak about?" Caroline asks dryly, her obvious undesire to be speaking, however knowing that its better to play nice than cause issues…
"I am sorry." Undyne says as she looks away. "I was… out of line earlier today… I plan to make it up to Frisk as well. I am starting to see what you and Toriel see… she reminds me of-" A hand touches her shoulder. Caroline gently pulls her to look at her… to see Undyne's single eye showing pain and a hint of regret.
"I forgive you." Caroline says calmly. Undyne's eye widens in surprise. "So will Frisk when you try… I know of Saya from what Toriel told me. I was not happy, however I would never hold a grudge over just words. Your actions may have caused me anger, this person before me now is whom I was hoping to eventually see." Caroline says gently.
"But how can you just forgive me? I essentially attacked your daughter, thought of her as below both human and monster…" Undyne asks as she looks at the once human mother before her.
"Because I know Frisk wouldn't be happy if I didn't try." Caroline says as she takes her own seat. "I don't think I have ever really wanted to hurt anyone badly before I heard what you did today… but I knew the first words out of Frisk's mouth to me would be 'Please, don't I wouldn't want to cause her any more trouble than she got today…' and she wouldn't take no for an answer especially since she cannot help, but to forgive…" Caroline says as she sighs. "My mother would say that Frisk has a golden soul and a ruby heart. Never letting the world's darkness dwell her ability to forgive or get her down too much… I know however it was likely tearing at her from what happened in the past, yet she still prevailed despite it all."
Undyne gently smiles as she stares at the skyless stars. She gives a gentle nod as Caroline joins her, the two sit in silence as they sit in the words of the other… neither knew nothing more was to be said, as it was better to enjoy the moment. Soon the two stood and went to their tents as they decided to call it a night, however for one the night would not be so peaceful…
Asriel's dreamscape…
It was warm, the sun shining down as Asriel shining down upon his face. He glances to his right to see Frisk reading a book, 'Life of two souls' was the title and he smiles at the view before him, that was before something that made his smile grow further. Two voices comes in, young and child-like… He turns to see a small human child and a monster child wearing matching clothing as he sits up in his seat.
He couldn't clearly see their faces, and it didn't bother him any as they cheer for him and one climbs up onto his lap.
"Woah there, you kids know better than to rush your father like that…" Frisk's voice calls out as she places the book down and walks over, she lifts the Monster child up, and holds them as Asriel holds the human child in his lap.
"Haha, its fine." Asriel responds as he hugs the little one. "They can't resist spending their time with us you know. However this one is just like her mother…" Asriel says as he looks at Frisk…
Except Frisk was no where to be found, neither was either child as he stands up… he felt different as he was now in his younger body he looked around frantically as he found himself in an alley… a very familiar alley as his body siezes up.
'No… no nonono!' He takes a step forwards as he hears a sninister chuckle turning around he sees the human that attacked him years ago, standing over a form.. not just anyone, but Frisk… this time however he couldn't move as he saw the hammer on the gun pull back. His legs try to push him forwards when it fell.
"FRISK!"
"Do you want her to die?" A voice calls out as he turns around again. The orange eyes as he sees a somewhat familiar face… He couldn't place his finger on it, but he knew this person. "Do you… want her to die?"
"No! Damn it no…" He responds as the figure nods.
"Then perhaps it is time for you to fly and stop falling." He says as the world goes dark… the image of the gun left in Asriel's mind as he fades deeper into unconsciousness.
That morning Asriel's eyes shot open as he stares at the ceiling of the Tent… he tries to sit up only to feel a weight on his right arm to see Frisk latched on, her face nuzzled into his shoulder as his face flusters up.
"You know… if Teina saw this she would be taking pictures like no other…" Chara's voice calls out causing Asriel's head to slowly turn and glare at his brother.
"Chara. I will bite you again…" Chara shrugs at Asriel's display of anger as he crawls towards the tent opening.
"I am sure you would… but lets face it you can save your kinky-fun for her once shes ready…" Chara says as he glances back to see his own phone thrown at him dodging it and his eyes widen as he chases after it.
"NO! MY SCREEN I JUST REPLACE IT LAST WEEK THE FUCK ASRIEL?!" Chara's voice cries out as suddenly a dual voice echos out.
"LANGUAGE!" Of both Caroline and Toriel. Asriel smiles as his face softens before looking back to Frisk, soundly asleep… A pop from the campfire outside loudly echos into his ears causing his eyes to widen as he sees the nightmare from last night before his arm jerks in Frisk's grip causing her to slowly rouse from slumber.
His body shaking as she looks up at him with worry and confusion.
"Asriel…?" She calls out getting him to blink and see Frisk staring up at him, he could feel the worry of his spooked state through her eyes. He gently shakes his head.
"S-Sorry, had a bad dream last night, still kinda shook up." He says as he gives a weak chuckle. Frisk gives a slight nod as she slowly takes his hand and messes with the fur on it. It was odd to see her do so, however… Asriel felt himself slightly calm down at the sight. "Sorry I didn't mean to make you worry. This week has had enough trouble already…" He says as she nods again.
"I… remember what you asked me last night, do you really… want to date someone like me? Someone who doesn't have money, or ability like you or Teina?" Asriel blinks as he smiles, he pulls his hand from her grip and rubs her head some.
"Frisk what did I say back when we ate before the attack? I said you had a wonderful soul?" Frisk nods as she looks at him. "Well, I meant that, and I love that about you. Your super nice and your very gentle. You stood up and acted when Chara had been nothing, but been an asshole to you…"
"Hey-!" The two turn to see Chara's mouth covered by Caroline and Toriel whom were listening. Both with wide smiles as Frisk and Asriel's eye twitches.
"Please do continue with your sweet words…" Caroline says, Frisk's face starts to flush as she grabs the closest pillow and throws it at the trio. A quick dodge and Chara's running after.
"No not into the fire! Not into-...the fire… fuck! WHY ME? Is this karma? Is this what payback feels like?!" Chara's words as the two sigh.
'So much for the moment…' Asriel mentally groans as he looks at Frisk. "Hey let us save this talk for that date alright? When we don't have so many prying ears and eyes…" Asriel says dryly as he slowly looks at the two mothers just smiling at them. Mothers were...strange.
Frisk and Asriel climb out of the tent to see Chara staring at the charred remains of his pillow. Frisk already calmed as she started to feel bad, meanwhile Asriel shrugs.
"Don't worry we will buy you another one lil' bro." Asriel says as he walks up to him.
"This is like the tenth pillow you've burned! What did my pillows ever do to you?!" Chara declares as he glares at Asriel, whom shrugs.
"Dude I don't know what to tell you, Last I told you it was karma Chara." Asriel says as he watches his human brother groan as he slumps. Chara sighs once more before standing up straight and looking Asriel dead in the face.
"Well till then your pillow is forfeit as per the rules then." Asriel frowns as he looks at his brother.
"Fine…" Asriel groans before Chara smirks.
"Oh wait, it was actually…" Asriel's eyes widen as Chara speaks and looks to Frisk, whom looks at both confused. "Frisk whom threw my pillow, so that means I get her pillow for this trip!"
"Chara no, this is her first trip and she didn't know of that rule." Asriel tries to count as Frisk continues to feel very lost in this.
"Hey not my fault, you shoulda warned her the rules…" Chara says as he looks proud of himself. "I guess she will have to sleep without a pillow." Caroline mean while was looking ready to knock till she noticed a prankster look in his eyes, her own inner prankster felt she should trust this prank and watch with glee…
"No, I will give her my pillow. I take responsibility for that, besides we didn't make that rule until the fourth time it happened." Chara shook his head as he looks away.
"Nope, if you give her your pillow that is on you. But I shall be using her pillow for this trip for last night we stay here." He says walking away. Asriel groans as he looks at Chara.
"Sorry Frisk, I forgot that stupid rule existed even and add on we should have excluded everyone else…" Asriel says as he looks at her.
"N-No its fine… I did just throw the first thing that I had grabbed after all. I don't mind sleeping without a pillow so don't worry…" Asriel shakes his head.
"It won't do you any good if we train that next morning, if you have a headache it will seriously mess with your focus, I don't want you getting hurt over some stupid rule." Asriel says as he look at her. "Listen I can sleep on my arms well enough, they are fluffy enough to be a half-decent pillow." He says as he sticks his arm out… Frisk reaches out and gives it a gentle feel… it was really soft, and surprisingly thick despite how thin it looks. He keeps it well groomed after all. Frisk couldn't help but resting her head on his arms instead, a red blush runs across her face.
All the while neither of them noticed as they continued to try and figure out what to do as Asriel kept pressing that she shouldn't and Frisk this time felt adamant she didn't want to be a burden and could handle a night without, though all while she was still feeling up his fluffy arm neither seemed to notice or care. Caroline had moved on to fixing her self a bite to eat and start training again. She wanted to be able to help protect her child.
"As amusing as it is to see you two figure this out…" Toriel calls out towards them, Frisk and Asriel to see Toriel holding the bag of stones from yesterday. "It is time to get to training after you two eat. Caroline has already gotten a headstart on it…" Toriel glances over at Caroline whom now was floating three stones in her hand now with her other eating an egg sandwhich she made earlier. Her eyes focusing on the three stones rotating in her hand in a circle.
Asriel and Frisk sigh as they join in getting food. Opting to follow Caroline's lead of Egg sandwhiches though with cheese on theirs. Asriel grabbed two stones to try and up the difficulty from yesterday as Frisk continued with one with a feeling uncertainty with her progress.
Floating the stone slowly in her hand as it tumbles about as she watches it. She has to stop whenever she takes a bite of the breakfast in her other hand, Asriel could handle one while eating, however the other would fall as he took his eyes off, his control improving quickly compared to Frisk's. After about an hour, everyone had eaten and Frisk was struggling still to keep the stone from tumbling about in the air, Asriel had moved onto three with one tumbling, Caroline was more or less playing at this point with five stones floating around her entire hand.
Asriel sighs as he takes a break, looking over to Frisk whom stares at the tumbling stone. Frisk sighs as the stone falls into her hand. She frowns as she looks to the ground. He gives his own as he scoots closer to Frisk and with a warm smile he looks at her.
"Your worrying too much." Frisk looks up at Asriel as he gently lifts Frisk's right hand. "Your eyes say it all. Your worrying about something too much and causing your magic to react to it." Frisk frowns further as she looks away.
"Sorry…" Asriel shakes his head.
"Don't be. Follow my lead okay?" Asriel says as he has her hold hand out and places another stone with it. "Close your eyes and just take a deep breath in." Frisk listens to his words as she follows them, his hand gently under hers. "Listen to your heartbeat, and exhale all thoughts out with that breath." He says as she lets out a loud exhale, she feels and hears her heart beat slow down and feels a warmth in her hand. "Like always just imagine the flow and let that flow guide you." He says as she lets the warmth of magic flow through her hand and into the stones. Both gently float up and begin to spin around each other steadily at a slow pace.
Frisk takes another breath and exhales again, she realizes Asriel hasn't spoken and peeks an eye to see the two stones in her hands floating slowly. Her eyes widen as she watches them float.
"Our magic works through our emotions, certain like Worry and uncertainty can cause us to lack as we do not have confidence in our selves. If you ever find you lack your own self-confidence, do not worry believe in me, because I believe in you." He says as her face flushes, and gives a gentle nod.
"R-Right… thank you Asriel." He smiles and gives a nod as he pulls another stone for himself and another to offer Frisk whom follows his lead. The two now were along side each other in progress as Toriel nods.
"I think that is a good break point. Asriel you and Frisk want to gather some water from the lake for me?" Toriel asks. Getting a nod from Asriel whom places his three stones down and offer a hand to Frisk after standing up. Frisk placing hers down takes the hand offered before they are walking off into the woods towards the Lake.
"You sure its okay for them to be along again after the prior attack?" Caroline asks before Toriel nods.
"Yes, no one ever comes here besides Monsters. So it is safer here than outside the mountain." Toriel says getting a nod from Caroline whom frowns.
Meanwhile Frisk and Asriel walk towards the lake. The arrive and Frisk looks at the water as she looks at Asriel whom was picking up two buckets from a nearby tree. "We will use these and bring them back once we are done for the day." He says as he hands Frisk one. She smiles softly before looking across the water.
"It is nice here…" Frisk says as the place was warm, yet so full of life.
"Yep. I do enjoy when we can come here it is peaceful…" Asriel says as he notices three ski-jets out in the water they were far out he couldn't see who was on and just gave a friendly wave at them before looking at Frisk, whom stares out to the furthest point of the lake, to the north there was a small water-fall that she was staring at.
He decides its no rush as he takes a seat next to Frisk as he looks out towards the Waterfall. "There is another waterfall else where in the mountain, would you like to go see it sometime?" Asriel asks as she looks towards him. A gentle smile on her face as she nods, opening her mouth to speak.
Ringing…
That was all he could hear as the loud sound, a dart in Frisk's arm, her eyes wide as they daze out as she falls unconcious, the loudness as he felt dizzy as well. Crumpling to the ground he reaches out to Frisk a voice could be heard, but he couldn't see well, everything was blurry.
"The damn bastard was almost still up after a hit like that!" The voice says as another growls.
"Get her on the jet-ski now! You better hope that kid don't die or we will all be fucked." Another says. "You, Drive the girl away from here we will follow after." Asriel tries to look as he sees Frisk resting on the back of a jetski.
"F-Frisk…"he calls out weakly as his head's ringing grows louder as the jetski takes off.
"Fucker is still concious?!" The voice above him says as the other sighs.
"Don't matter lets go. NOW." The other says as another ski revs up.
"Right right… have fun knowing your lil' bitch is gonna be a fun one in a few years…" The voice above him says with a sinister chuckle. The last ski revs up as Asriel's blood boils at the words, his body aches and his soul… it yearns for blood.
"Frisk…" He growls as white and blue wisps of energy flow around his body. A glow resonates as he feels a loud growl grow in his throat, in an instant he lets the growl, a loud howl of anger echos into the air.
His emerald eyes once holding kindness, held an anger.
"I won't let anyone harm my friends again." His voice calls out angrily. Deeper than normal as he pushes to his knees. His body larger as he stands over nine feet tall now, black markings across his face as his sclera now black.
"A-Asriel…?" a worried voice comes from behind him. Asriel turns around, his horns extended, wearing a robe with a delta-rune symbol on it. Across his back were two feathered wing, the feathers glinting multiple colors. Caroline's runs up next to see however her eyes widen at the lack of Frisk as he turns back. "A-Asriel Wait wha-" A flap with the wings and hes launched himself into the air and over the lake following Frisk's kidnappers.
