Chapter 22: Facing the Music!

Day 25 (Friday - April 10th)

When Relon came down for breakfast, he expected to see his housemate, You Watanbe, finishing up. Indeed, that was what he saw. Now that his mind was no longer in that half-awake state, he recognized with a clear mind that You was more affectionate than before. Mainly just pecks on the cheeks and more hugs. Things he would not complain about.

Though his mom greeting them entering the house just as they were leaving was one complaint. For her work to keep her busy all night, he had to wonder if something major happened. Their greeting was brief as was the exchange in eye contact. She was tired but the weariness shown seemed to be a mix of her own troubles and what he had caused yesterday. He had no time to discuss further as she was up the stairs and they were out the door.

Now, here they were waiting at the bottom of the shrine for Hanamaru. Giving a momentary glance over at You swiping on her phone, his eyes trail downwards to their hands clearly intertwined.

He personally had no issues since no one from their grade level, to his knowledge outside of Kanan who was still doing online classes, walked this way. Hanamaru and You had this silent agreement to share him, something which again he had no problem with. Hanamaru knew he and You were close. She was the only one, to his knowledge, that caught them resting together in the library the other day so he was comfortable with her seeing them act the way they did.

What made him slightly nervous now though was how he and You now were currently. They've ascended to a newfound friendship that was borderline couple status.

"Question," he casually spoke.

"Hm?" She hummed, eyes not turning from the lit screen showing swimming videos.

Casually tapping his laced fingers against hers, he asks, "What's the plan regarding this?"

That caused her to stop momentarily, meeting his eyes. Quietly, her mouth pursed as her brows furrowed at the thought. "Do what we've always done? Just be affectionate when it's just us?"

"Can you go a few hours without pecking my irresistible cheeks?" He grinned to earn an amused grin, noticing her eyes look upwards. Following her eyes he doesn't see Hanamaru, instead feeling You's tender lips peck his right cheek once more. "Hey…" He deadpans, holding the spot.

"Who knows," she scoots back with a shrug. "Guess I better get my fill until we get home."

"You make it sound like you'll be kissing me nonstop or something," he chuckles to freeze. "Wait." That's when his earlier realization regarding her affections was proven right.

Their hands were still held together so the small tug she caused was enough to pull him in.

It wasn't a singular peck but one he hadn't received before. It was a deep, moisty, little nibble against the edge of his ear…

Pop.

That ended with a smooch.

It lasted only a few seconds but somehow Relon found himself in a slight daze suddenly as he could only blink dumbfounded.

"Hehe," she grinned, pulling his arm close to her chest before resting her head atop his shoulder, returning her previous focus to her cellular device.

"I… was not prepared for that," Relon admitted, attempting to cool the heat rising to his cheeks as his mind shifted to the intimate position his elbows was touching. Had she been holding that back all this time?

"I'm satisfied. For now." She didn't even glance his way when she said that. The confidence oozing from her after such a thing was unbelievable.

"Where was that earlier?" He managed out.

"You weren't fully awake and the mood was more for cuddling. Plus, you said so yourself when we'd kiss."

"You're awfully blunt, you know."

"I am your partner, aren't I?" She gives him a knowing look, all too happy with pride to claim such a title.

She had too much control over himself and his body. The urge to answer through action was too great and the look You had told she knew that as well.

Peering to see Hanamaru begin her descent, he looked back to his partner. With a quick walk toward the still-grinning You, both drop their bags as he lightly guides her out of view and against a lamppost.

"You already know you are."

"Mhm. I simply love hearing you admit it." The flip to such nonchalance made him nearly stumble with a chuckle.

"Just be careful with the public displays of affection. If the others notice, they may think other stuff happened instead of me not feeling well."

"I will. I have common sense, you know. It's not like Japan will suddenly release a national statement suddenly making harems legal again."

"Yeah, that'd just make things even more complicated." Relon sighs, backing away to feel You's hand intertwine with his halting his motion.

"If that did happen, what would you do?"

Opening his mouth to respond, he pauses. Leaning to see Hanamaru still coming down, he looks back to You awaiting his answer. Rubbing the back of his head, he rocks his head back and forth.

"You can guess the answer," he says through a slight blush for her eyes to widen as they sparkle for a moment. "It doesn't matter. Come on!" This time, he pulled her along though it couldn't be classified as a drag. Happily, she allowed him to guide herself. Sporting a smile impossible to dismantle all the way back.

"Rel-oniichan! You-senpai!"

Perking expectantly to the first year's voice, he lifts up to feel a force cause him to stumble back.

"Whoa there!" He exclaims to catch her with both hands. "Morning to you too, Sis." He blinks to immediately feel a ping of guilt.

Her eyes were filled with worry.

"Are you alright, zura? You're not hurt are you?" That jab at his heart felt like an arrow was piercing it with every question that came his way. He knew deep down, a part of him deserved it for barely communicating with Hanamaru, his 'sister.'

"I'm okay now, Hanamaru. I promise."

"Really?"

"Really," he reassures.

"You're not lying are you?" Her brows angle downward showing slight offense. "I'll get mad if you're trying to be brave." He had to be serious in the moment, despite how cute she looked with a pouty face.

"I'm not. Just had some stuff happen but I'm okay now," he explains adding a few headpats to further ease her worries.

Sure enough, within seconds, she begins to mellow out.

"Fine… But don't try to tackle anything alone, zura! And don't push too much onto You-senpai!" That earned a surprised look from said swimmer. "I'm here too. I want to help you. You helped me after all, zura…"

All he could do was rub at her teary eye before bringing her into a loving embrace.

"Thanks, Hanamaru. It means a lot that you care for me so much. Next time, I'll try to be more considerate of your feelings too, okay?" A happy sound accompanied by a nod came as both girls looked between the other, their own silent conversation being made as You motioned to capture his hand in hers.

"Ready?" She asks, happily lifting their intertwined hands to Relon's nervousness. Sure enough, Hanamaru's eyes gleamed in delight as her hands clasped Relon's other hand before attaching herself to his arm.

"Okay, you two. Could you… maybe ease up, just a little. I'm still a guy you know and if someone sees..."

"Nope~," You hummed. "Your right side and hand is mine and only mine."

"H-Hey! Phrasing!"

"This is your punishment for worrying me, zura."

"Come on, Relon, it's just us. You know you like it, teehee."

"Ah yes, two beautiful girls holding onto me. I totally hate that."

Taking a deep breath, he can only look towards the sky. He couldn't tell who was more at fault, the girls or himself for liking this too much to stop them…

Uranohoshi High School

"LUCINANCE-KUN!"

Perhaps more people cared than Relon realized.

Upon entering homeroom, at a decent time before classes started, Relon was immediately confronted by Chika, Riko, and the three stooges.

"Hi, Takami-san." He winces, picking at his now aching ear. "Didn't have to be so loud, you know." He adds, moving to take a seat, Mentally embarrassed at the eyes on them.

"Are you okay?" Riko gingerly asks, taking her seat diagonal to his. "We were worried about you.

Eyes cutting to a nodding You, he sighs.

"Yeah, I just had some stuff to deal with. Sorry for worrying you all. Wasn't expecting you girls to care for me so much, honestly." At that, he gives a curt bow. "Next time, I won't take that for granted."

Equally taken aback, all five girls can only exchange matching looks of surprise. Seeing motion, all look to You who gestures winks.

"It's fine, Lucinance-san," Riko eases first, gaining Relon and everyone's attention. "I can't speak for everyone but you've left a great impression on me so I feel it's only reasonable that I would care for you as you've mirrored that same kindness onto us."

The way Riko spoke with such elegance left everyone, including the lone male, momentarily at a loss for words. Yet, that look of endearment she allowed to remain on Relon left him dumbfounded more than anything. He'd realized when they first met that she was more of an elegant girl than the tomboyish and energetic You and Chika. The way she carried herself, appearance and nature, told of that much.

Now, displaying such heartfelt words towards him and only him, he couldn't help but feel his insides stir at such a compliment. It didn't help that his eyes refused to look anywhere but at her own smiling face, pink cheeks visible and all.

"Whoa, Riko. You're bold," Yoshimi bluntly says, still stunned but snapping everyone from their own stupors.

"W-Wow Sakurauchi-san, I don't know what to say. I didn't think I had such an impact on you like that. Honestly, I'm speechless," Relon confessed, scratching his head.

"There's no need to form words. As long as you understand, then that's all that matters," Riko adds.

"Yeah!" Chika jumps in. "We're all friends so we help each other out!"

"There's our usual Chika-chan," Itsuki grins smugly.

"Though she can't outdo the potency of Riko's assault or You's concrete status," Mutsu whispers with a grin. "Now she's in third place, girls."

"Huh? Did you say something, Mutsu-chan?" Chika blinks.

"Nope!"

"Not a thing!"

"Nothing here, haha!" All three dismiss. "Anyway, we should get ready for class to start! We'll chat more afterwards!" Without waiting, all three disperse to their seats leaving the four.

"What's their deal?" Chika blinks to look at a stoic You.

"Who knows. Still, thanks girls. It's relieving to know others care for Relon."

"What are you, my mother?" He deadpans, earning chuckles from Chika and Riko as they also take their seat.

"Nope. Just a kind and caring childhood friend~," she hums, resting her chin under her hand as she looks his way.

He was fully aware that she was truly referring to her status and he could only shake his head with a smile.

"Thank you, oh great friend. I can always go to you for comfort." He lightly scoffs to earn giggles from the two girls. Eyes going back to You with a smug grin facing him, she mouths her next words.

"I'll always welcome you with open arms, Relon."

That nearly made him choke aloud but he managed to catch himself. Averting his eyes to a silently giggling You, he can only twitch his eye in annoyance.

She truly knew how to get under his skin.

Study Period

With homeroom over, Relon was about to depart for the library when a familiar voice made him stop at the door.

"Lucinance-san, would you mind if I walked with you to the library?"

Looking over his shoulder to see You and the girls catch notice of the voice, all saw Riko approach.

"I take it you're switching out books again?"

"Yes. I figured you'd be heading there so why not walk together?"

"Sure. The more, the merrier," he smiles, both vanishing around the corner. Riko may not have seen it, but Relon did. The intrigued looks both the girls as well as You sported.

Drama lies everywhere I go these days. Maybe this is just karma getting back at me for skipping. I've rarely ever skipped class. Here's to hoping You doesn't make a big deal out of this. Oh, who am I kidding? She had those yandere eyes again so knowing my luck, she will since the others were making obvious comments about Riko.

"Lucinance-san?"

"Yeah? What's up?" Even though he answered, she hesitated in speaking further. That much was obvious. As for why, he could only tilt his head slightly with patience.

"What… are your thoughts on relationships?" He nearly stumbled. For a millisecond, he processed her question and managed to keep walking casually to their destination.

"Relationships are what connect us." he begins as they reach the library. "Between people, our preferences define how well they meld together. Take you and me. We're both transfers from other schools as well as have the hobby of reading. We quickly became easy to talk to, wouldn't you say?" As he asks, he gives a wave to Hanamaru at the reception desk who returns with a bright smile.

"I suppose so."

"Because of that, we hit it off rather well. If we didn't have those, then that's not to say we wouldn't have become friends. We likely would have had to talk more to reach this comfortable level that we're at now." Pulling a book out, he hands it to her.

"The next HP book. How did you know?"

"Based on our previous talk, I just guessed. Was I right?" He asks with a tilt of his head for Riko to giggle, parting a few strands to grace him with that breathtaking smile he saw when they first met.

"Yes, you are."

"See?" He grins. "Our relationship doesn't even need words," he adds with a chuckle. "I just know you that well, haha."

He was too lost in his own antics to recognize the faint blush that adorned her face.

To Riko, she was truly fortunate, thankful even to have met someone as kind and attentive as Relon. He was reliable when it came to schoolwork and advice as she could now confidently support. He was honest, more than anything. He held back when he seemed embarrassed but wouldn't dismiss the thought of speaking his own mind.

The words he spoke, however, were what rang in her chest. That odd unfamiliar style of beating it made whenever he spoke. Back when they had walked to school and he gifted them his honest thoughts on what they meant to him, it did more than touch her heart. It reacted in a way she still struggled to describe. It was more than warm. It was gentle, yet it made her want to feel more of that sensation.

The closest thing to it was what she read in romance novels. But… surely, she didn't? She couldn't. Relon had You and they were practically already husband and wife with how much they went back and forth. Their chemistry was perfect. She was close and unlike the oblivious Chika, Riko was aware of the teasing comments the others made and what they were implying.

Riko knew You had a thing for Relon since they weren't together yet. She could feel the eyes of You bare into her back whenever anything related to him came up. Heck, she wouldn't be surprised if You was doing that exact thing when they left the classroom a few minutes ago.

You cared for Relon. They were childhood friends, not to mention they lived together. It was almost taboo to even conjure the idea of taking Relon away from her.

But…

Relon wasn't hers.

Relon was his own person, owned by no one. You herself told how much he meant to her but she's never openly called out the prohibition of anyone going for him.

Wait…

Looking to Relon talk about something, his words muddled in her mind, Riko blinked only once in realization. She just clued herself in wanting to pursue him.

She knew her own brain well enough to recognize the roundabout methods like that out of a mystery genre. The answer, no matter how plain, is always told in a different way that doesn't make it obvious. This insight was something her studies and reading gifted her.

I like Lucinance-kun…

Three simple words that manifested in her consciousness, yet she didn't dislike them. Quite the opposite.

I like him. I like him.

She said it over and over, her smile never losing itself as her eyes remained on Relon chat about book after book, all the while oblivious to her once inner turmoil-now-realization.

She had no idea if Chika also liked Relon, her reaction that morning matched You's and her own so it was possible. However, that wasn't something she didn't need to worry about. Her new thought was if Relon liked her.

No.

She knew he didn't see her in that light, not the same as You probably.

She bit her bottom lip, daring not to lose the look of fascination her face sported.

Relon likely didn't even think of her like that when he had a girl as kind and caring and beautiful as You living with him. That alone was the greatest advantage You had. Being both his childhood friend and living with him currently.

"Hey, Lucinance-kun?" She spoke up, interrupting his accidental rant.

"Huh? O-Oh, my bad. I kinda went on a tangent. What's up?" He tilts his head again. Riko couldn't help but find that little act adorable. Argh, now that she had this new perspective lens, it was harder to focus.

"Can I, erm…" So, so hard to focus! "Ask another question?" There, she managed it out!

"Of course! Ask away," he smiled, turning to face her fully.

That act alone of giving her and only her his attention, it was respectful. Now, she just wished they could be like this longer.

Just them…

"What do you think of me-"

Ding. Ding.

Then the rule showed how cruel it could be. Like divine intervention of some sort, the intercom sliced through the perfect opportunity to ask him.

"Will Relon Lucinance please come to the student council office? I repeat, will Relon Lucinance please come to the student council office?" With a bleep, the call for the guy in question ended.

All that mustered up bravery went out the window in an instant. As fleeting as their high school life, her chances at finding out what he thought of her ended.

She could only look downcast. All her thoughts came to one realization and she even managed to act on it. Perhaps, this was all just a sign at her moving too fast. She realized she had some feelings for him. Maybe she just needed to think more about it before diving headfirst like in the novels.

"Hey, Sakurauchi-san?" Her face lifted up to Relon sporting an apologetic look. "Sorry. Seems I'm needed elsewhere."

"No, it's fine." She didn't like it. "Who could have seen that coming." She hated losing this opportunity. "We can always talk again tomorrow." She'd have to wait to talk with him for 24 hours.

"Are you sure?" Even now he was ensuring she was alright, that look he had told as much. "They can wait." He was risking more trouble to help her out with her own dilemma. Seriously, how kind could this guy be? How did she not notice until now? "What was it that you wanted to ask?"

She didn't want to delay him, much less get him in more trouble. How could she-

Then she realized it. Down in her skirt pocket, the answer she hadn't thought of using until now.

Hesitantly, she reached for it to pull out her cell phone. Awkwardly, as much as she hated it, she extended it to him.

"C-Could I…" She needed to stay strong, she was halfway there! "Could I exchange numbers with you?!" She hadn't meant to exclaim it the way she did but what was done was done.

Now she was frozen in place, fear creeping in on her. It was only seconds since she asked, and yet it felt like an eon had already passed. Her heart beat had slowed to an almost nerve wracking halt.

Ding.

Then she heard it. A sound that indicated the confirmation of number exchanging.

Ba-dump.

As well as that beating of her heart she longed to hear again.

Surging back upright, her eyes could only gleam in happiness at the newly acquired contact that sat on her phone screen.

Peering further up, she felt it a second time.

Ba-dump.

Instinctively, her hand went to her chest. A part to quell it and another to ease her own nerves as the sight before her.

Relon, as interesting of a character as he was, was blushing, eyes averted bashfully.

"I… actually wanted to ask for your number a while back but I never could muster up the nerves to ask. Or find a good chance to so I guess this works out for both of us," he awkwardly laughed.

Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.

Subtly, she tightened her hand to her chest. The smile creeping on her face was hard to fend off, then again a part of her didn't want to do that.

He had wanted to stay in contact with her. He was nervous, the same as her, to ask. Even if his eyes saw You Watanabe, that didn't mean Riko Sakurauchi wasn't also there somewhere. That thought alone made her body fill with joy as she began to giggle.

"H-Hey, what are you giggling about?" He pouted.

"Nothing, it's just… I was nervous too, you know." She confessed with a tender smile. "But I'm relieved more than anything. Now we can stay in touch outside of school."

"Oh…" He managed out in understanding. "Hey, what was it that made you ask about relationships in the first place?"

At that, her face perked up.

"O-Oh, nothing serious. It was actually pretty silly to worry over."

"I still want to know. It's important to me at least." He deadpans, regaining her attention.

"Why?" It was a genuine question.

"Because it came from you. Besides, you were clearly interested so of course I'd be too."

She was honestly at a loss for words. He cared for her own issues while she was trying to dismiss them. Yet she couldn't help but smile at that aspect of him.

Walking beside him, HP book still in hand, she winks. "I'll tell you later. Deal?"

Pursing his lips for a moment, he relents. "Sure. I'll be waiting to hear about it," he eases back into a smile.

"Good. Now get going." She chuckles, giving a slight push.

"I am, I am…" He sounds in a knowing tone. "See ya, Sakurauchi-san."

"Take care," she waves.

His body continued away from her, his eyes lingered on her for as long as they could. Then with one small wave of his own, he was out of sight.

He may have left, but the giddy smile that adorned her face didn't.

Student Council

"I take it this has to do with my absence?"

Seated across from him at their desk lied not only Dia Kurosawa but Mari Ohara, president of the student council and chairwoman of the school respectively.

Relon still recalled their last conversation together back during Hanamaru's incident. There was certainly more going on than what was being said and he couldn't help but wonder if this related to that or simply was its own issue.

"For me, yes," Dia said simply. "Are you well?" Her voice was calm, showing genuine concern.

"I am," he answered. "I apologize for my absence," he added with a bow from his seated position.

"No, such words are not needed. Your health is a top priority. If you were too ill to tend to yourself, then it makes sense that Watanabe-san stays also given your living conditions and friendship."

"So you know about that," he commented, eyes still closed.

"We do. You both are registered to have the same address in our files. Is there an issue with that, Lucinance-san?"

"No ma'am." He answered swiftly, eyes once again going to Dia.

While his expression was straight, not showing anything, hers had clearly gone slightly perturbed. All the while, Mari simply stood quietly next to her holding that carefree smile.

"May I ask what occurred in your absence?"

"I fell ill. You stayed back to tend to me."

"May I also ask for how long?"

"Throughout most of the morning into the early afternoon. When I felt tired of her tending to me, I went for a walk. That's when I ran into you and your sister at the store ma'am."

That made her furrow.

He was aware that the timing for that was coming. It was better for him to state it than for her to. Otherwise, it would add more weight to her side, no matter how minor.

"I see," she relented as though she had more to say.

"I was ill, recuperated to a point I could at least walk, went out to retrieve supplies for You while giving myself some alone time, and came back."

"Lucinance-san, I do not mean to come across as one to pry. I am simply ensuring everything is alright given the recent events you were involved in."

"I am well now, ma'am. I apologize for any trouble I caused." He bows once again in his seat.

Looking for a moment to Mari who only nodded, a sigh escaped Dia.

"It is fine. If you are well, then there is no need to further delve on this. I personally apologize for inquiring in such a dismodest way." Now Dia is the one to give a curt bow.

"It's no big deal. You're only doing your job. Please raise your head, President. If there is any way I can be of further assistance, please, do not hesitate to call." With that, he gave one more bow before turning and heading for the door.

"Lucinance-san."

It was a different voice, one he recognized. Having halted midstep, he turns to see Mari walk over to lean against the front of Dia's desk.

"Yes, Madam Chairwoman?"

"No need for such formalities. Surely, you're not this stiff around your friends and classmates. Or those guys you beat up."

Looking at her for a moment, he only blinks having fought off the urge to furrow at the comment.

"Very well, Ohara-san?"

"You can just call me Mari~." She hums, her face never wavering despite her tone.

"Ohara-san," he repeats in a slight deadpan. "Why did you call me?"

"Haha, figured that wouldn't work," she mumbles. "What do you think of the term, 'relationship?'"

That finally made him lose his stiffness as he slowly began to tilt his head before correcting himself.

"Relations are what connects us," he repeats from earlier. "Between people, our preferences and status define how well they meld together. Take you and me. I'm simply a student, a transfer no less, and you're the chairwoman."

"So you see me as an authoritative figure, just like Dia." She smiles for Relon to go quiet for a moment.

"You are the chairwoman and president," he noted. "You, acting under said statuses, called for me here."

"Is there a problem with that?" Dia wonders for Mari to raise a hand silencing her.

"Nope, not a thing."

"You dislike those in power," Mari notes.

"I dislike those in power who abuse such rights," he corrects.

"Yet we're-"

"Simply acting in accordance to the rights you fall under," he cuts her off finishing the incoming sentence. "Yeah, I know. We're shackled to play around such trivial and mundane rules put before us, maneuvering in a way to cleave open a path that'll give us that which we seek."

"The Zero Idol Law," Mari mumbled, which made him flex the balled fist he didn't realize he had.

"Please get to the point, Madam Chairwoman," he sighs in defeat.

"I just want you to know we're on your side. That is all. You're dismissed," she smiles.

For a moment, he only looked between the two. Their own crestfallen expression matching his own. Silently, he could only nod before opening the door.

"I'm sorry for any trouble I caused you both," he bids, closing the door behind him.

"I'm the one who should be sorry, Lucinance-san…"

"That went about as I expected. Though you managed to get more out of him," Dia sighs.

"He's just like us, after all. A victim to this vile law. It makes sense he'd be defensive towards us. It doesn't help he sees us as authority figures and not students."

"Mari, has she said anything since?"

"Nothing since the big reveal. No need to worry about that now. If anything, I'm still perplexed as to why our school still has so much empty space. Even after combining and the minor addition of space, only half the school is full…"

"But Mari…"

"I'm fine. It's fine. There's still time. For now…"

Lucinance Residence

Relon didn't know how to feel.

With Dia, he had perfectly countered and beat her at every point and question. Yet, Mari slowly opened him up seemingly effortlessly. Was she that skilled or had his buttons already been pushed by Dia that she just finished nerving him enough to talk.

To any normal student, those two were a powerful duo in conversation.

Knock knock knock.

"Relon?"

Stirred from his thoughts, he looks to the door.

"Come in," he calls for You to open it in her usual nightwear.

"You okay? You've been quiet again," she notes walking to his bedside.

"Yeah," he answers, swinging his legs off to the side. "Just thinking over some stuff is all."

"I take it you're referring to the president calling you earlier?"

"Yeah. The Chairwoman was there too."

"Why was she there too?" She wonders with an arched brow.

"I have no clue, You. Honestly, not one."

"What did they say?"

"They were just asking about my absence."

"Weird. Why would they do that when they already notified Auntie?"

"That's what I thought. But…"

"But what?"

"While I was doing my own thing in town, I bumped into the president and her sister."

"Ah. Likely thought you were ditching school. Least they don't hold back on reprimanding those they think skip."

"Yeah, I suppose. Just using the powers they have to keep order." He mumbles, falling against the bed.

"Relon?"

"Ignore me. Just thinking about the stupid law again."

There were so many questions revolving around that vile law and no one still could answer the big W. That being "why?" Like why they gave full weekends off like the states did?

"Hey." It was a simple call, one that easily caught his attention. Though when he arose to look at the girl in wonder, he could only dumbly blink as she took her place straddling him.

Arms resting past his neck, he instinctively wrapped his hands at her waist as her legs wrapped around his own.

"We both know it's impossible for me to ignore you, right?" She grins, pecking his nose. "Besides, I say I deserve my reward." That made him tilt his head.

"Reward? What are you talking about?"

"Did you forget this morning?" It was a whisper, an alluring one, but his inner body couldn't help but love the lascivious look she gave him while saying that.

How could he forget though? Instinctively, one hand reached for his dry ear, once wet. One look at an expectant You told what he was referencing was correct.

"Haha, I guess that mom being busy again is a good thing."

In truth, he was slightly worried. They hadn't really spoken since he "snapped" at her. With work keeping her seemingly overnight twice in a row now, he had to wonder what was up.

"Mhm," she hummed, leaning her forehead against his.

"You know you're making it very tempting to just take your lips, right?"

"Mhm~."

"I have to keep you off of me or I'll seriously do something I might regret." At that both couldn't help but elicit a batch of laughter.

"Still, I got through the day." She purses her lips expectantly.

"We got through the day," he corrects to give out another chuckle.

Taking off her glasses, he can only look in amusement at the beauty. Words truly could not define how amazing of a partner You Watanabe was.

Settling them on his dresser, he gives her his full attention once more.

Vermilion met Cerulean in that moment. It wasn't blind lust but a mild hunger that he didn't want to admit before. The hint was previously there when he guided her against the post but in public and broad daylight, not to mention the incoming Hanamaru made such an attempt impossible.

"Payback time for this morning," he said, which confused her.

Not delving in further explanation, he used his index finger to lift her head by the chin. With no resistance, she followed as he did so.

First came the gentle peck upon her cheek, the same as the countless she's given him. Then another came. And another. A childish barrage manifested laughter from her as she pulled back for him to lean more after.

"Hahaha, okay! Okay, you win! Stop, Relon, ahaha!" Pulling back, he only has to give a victorious grin at the flushed face You sports. "Jerk."

"Yes, I am a jerk. A jerk that deserved to dish back what was dealt to them." He raised his brows in a knowing tone.

Feeling her hands pull him forward against her forehead, he had to only look at her.

"Happy now?" You pouted, oblivious to how adorable she looked.

"With you? Always," he murmured, embracing her once more. His touch was tender, cherishing her as though You was a diamond. Mesmerizing radiance so brilliant, he could go blind.

Once again, he pecked her cheek.

"Smooth talker."

He wouldn't deny he'd gotten better at that.

"I'll admit," he began. "It's thanks to you."

Easing his palm upward for her to rest her cheek on it, she gives it a tender nuzzle. Once more, those eyes met his, sparkling as they always have. Once more, he moved in.

He could feel You's leglock tighten ever so slightly in anticipation. He could see the love in those eyes he's lost himself in countless times.

Perhaps… he could give her that same thing she's given since they were kids.

Love.

Even if just a little. Just like that night…

He wanted to just stop holding back. Just for a little.

"You?"

"Hm?"

"Can I… go a little further?"

There was a lull in the silence, one they were well accustomed to. She registered his question and immediately knew her answer. The lustful side screamed yes but she wasn't blind to it, nor was Relon. They both were in control.

"Mhm."

The simple hums she exuded acted as that Of a remedy for his soul. Even when he himself doubted whether or not to act, he could always rely on You. His childhood friend.

His partner.

Down his eyes cascaded towards her exposed neck. Closer and closer, he inched until his lips brushed against her skin.

He didn't know how long this moment would last. He knew forever was impossible. Just like their previous ones, time had to move forward no matter what.

It was a disheartening fact that made his wanting, his need, to live to the fullest in this moment all the more worth.

Lips met skin as a shiver elicited from her form. Closer her embrace over him became. Her body, the only one he's burned every possible inch into his memory, pressed against her.

Her legs were securely locked at his waist with no possibility of loosening. That internal notice allowed for him to retract his hands from her waist not away from her entirely, but rather to settle upon her voluptuous thighs. With a careful yet savory squeeze, a deep breath escaped the girl.

From the top to her side, then underneath before back to the front. Slow, careful, rotations of rubs came as he kissed the same spot of her neck.

"H-Hey…" She softly moaned, beginning to squirm in delight.

"Should… I slow down?" He gulped.

"Mm mm. I feel really good actually," she admitted, removing herself from his lap.

"Uh, ok." He blinked, confused by why she'd get off of him to understand as he felt something stiff in his shorts.

One look down and the tent in his pants made him finally notice the saliva in his mouth that had accumulated. Swallowing it, he could feel his lips quiver in embarrassment as his peripheral just saw back away.

He wanted to cover up, to shy away and hide what made him… him. He was about to. Until the light suddenly switched off.

The moonlight that shone through only partially showed her body with the upper half veiled in the darkness.

"Uh, You, maybe…" He didn't know how to put the word 'stop' into his mouth. All he could do was move a hand to cover his erection.

"Don't."

That single word made him freeze. Carefully, she approached. Through the moonlight's luminescence, her flushed visage returned shades deeper than previously.

"It… means a lot… to me. That I made you like that," she gulped.

He was too lost in her red hued face to say anything except swallow another batch of liquid in his mouth. To him, she was captivating. Like an angel, her form veiled in the moonlight seemed to blind him yet he dared not look away as if in risk of breaking a law.

You's breathing had increased. Her chest rose and descended far faster than normal. Just the sight of her alone… it was intoxicating. That lustful gaze she held made his mody tighten. In doing so, his member twitched.

"Ah!" It was a sudden sound in the silence. One that made his body shiver.

Despite that, her eyes never left his erection. Like a moth to a flame, the hunger in her eyes seemed drawn to it.

Attempting to lift up, he feels her hands push him back down. Eyes snapping up, they finally locked once more.

"H-Hey, w-we really should-" A finger cut him off.

"Shh…"

He could feel himself get slightly harder and judging by the slight grin that formed, she too noticed. As if hypnotised, she settled back atop him in the same straddling position.

Then she moved.

A slow rock forward against his groin. One that exuded a pleasure equivalent to their previous night of lust.

"Fuck…" He rolled his head back, gasping in pure pleasure. The uncomfortable pleasure from his pressed erection was drowned out by the pure bliss that was her groin pressing against his own.

"Do you want me to keep stop?" She teased, airing superiority over the situation.

"As…" He managed out. Another rock backwards. Another hitched breath. "If."

"Good. I just thought that as your partner, I could…"

Then it came, the darkness that veiled the world around them. He remembered it. The same instance that emerged from that nightmare, from his insanity.

Immediately, he forcefully shook away the dark thoughts. With a careful breath, his attention returned to You catching her now worried face.

"I'm fine. Just… remembering a bad thought is all. Go easy, okay? This is new to me." He had to reassure her the only way he could; with a smile.

Even if she knew, that smile told all that it needed to. The words behind it.

I'm fine. Because you're here.

"Me too, you know," She mumbled as she carefully sank a bit more, furthering the lower pressure both felt. Feeling the part of him she felt last time, her eyes close as her breath steadies before her slow rhythm begins.

Relishing in the touch, he arches his head back. For such a simple motion of back-and-forth to feel so good, it made no sense but he wouldn't complain. Slow, deep, rocks were easily the way.

His body felt hers. The subtlest hint of something wet. Whether the source was him or her, neither cared. It was arousing all the same.

Peering a half-lidded eye, it seemed her relaxed visage told she was enjoying what he had to offer. It instilled a sense of pride. He was relieved. The girl of his dreams was enjoying herself.

The hot yet subtle panting she exuded only turned him on. Her t-shirt and shorts swaying with the motion. God, she was hot. And he was erect because of the Goddess before him.

Having grasped her voluptuous thighs to hold on as she moved, they steadily trailed back upwards toward the hem of her shorts. All the while, his eyes could not remove themselves from her breasts shaking with every motion.

He wanted to touch them again. To grasp those ample packs of flesh that was fit for his hand and only hand.

No…

Not yet. They were doing enough as is. For now, he'd just relish in her scent.

Without any warning, his head dipped below her own. Her slow rocking hadn't stopped but her pace did slow.

"Re…lon?" She managed out, the smallest hint of curiosity mixed with her lust.

He simply wanted to feel her core. So he did.

Their position was awkward. Her back arched as his face rested in her cleavage. Her motion continued. His fingertips treaded under her short's hem, inching forward.

He could feel the necklace he gifted her through her thin shirt. She never took it off. He'd realized it a bit ago. The only time she likely did was when she bathed. Otherwise…

"I'm always with you, huh?" He managed through a muffled voice.

Then they stopped. His fingers, her hips; everything in motion.

Half-lidded red parted away to lift up. There, they saw its other half, their matching half-lidded blue.

"Always and forever," she soothed, embracing him fully.

Perhaps, his inner intention was felt by the girl. Maybe she just had an inkling as to what his deeper desire was. But just the touch of their beloved partner was all the other needed.

He could only hitch out a groan as she gave one last grind before finally stopping completely.

"Did that feel good?" Her sultry voice was something he didn't know he needed in his life but wouldn't argue.

With her chest pressed against his own, he could feel her beating heart. Instinctively, his arms that had snaked to her back steadied themselves.

"That… felt… amazing," he breathed through pants. "You… okay?"

"Y-Yeah." Without warning, her mouth took the edge of his ear with a gentle kiss before parting. "This was great, Relon."

It was true. This experience that they just had together was without a doubt, far better than anything. Equivalent to that intimate night.

The more he looked at her, the more he wanted to give back all of those sweet gestures. So he did.

Without warning, he pecked her cheek. Then a series of small, quick, pecks trailed downward before he playfully nibbled at the base of her neck.

"H-Hey… you can still go?" she managed out in-between a chuckle and a hitched moan.

"I just wanna… show you my thanks."

She couldn't help but chuckle at that.

"That's a lame excuse," she smirked.

"I know," he admitted, feinting past her face to delve upon her neck once more.

"H-Hickey…" She warned, her hands reaching up to hold his head. The urge to savor the sensation from the made that held her heart made any chance at ending their intimate session nigh impossible.

He paused briefly, mind recognizing the issues that would entail should anyone see the mark. His mind was still in control as their lust had seemingly reset from mere moments prior. Possibly due to this, and a bit of bravery on Relon's part, that he moved to a different area.

Carefully, his hand went to her shirt's neckline. Then, with a simple tug, he exposed her collarbone and shoulder. Immediately, his mind registered the confirmation of no bra, something he already noticed when he rested upon said chest.

She felt it immediately.

His mouth trailed around her skin from her neck's base to the end of her shoulder before settling on her collarbone.

"Re…" Her voice hitched again, failing to say his name as he sucked at her skin. She knew any lower and he'd find something far more desirable.

He felt his body grow hot. He was exposing her skin for himself. Unveiling what he considered a sacred treasure.

"You smell nice…" He murmured to feel You's hand press his head back down.

Hearing her inhale, he didn't stop.

"So… do you," she gasped to find his ear claiming it.

Mirroring her own gasp, the hot batch of air that left his mouth made her body shiver.

Complying with the act, his lips found the same wet spot.

Relon didn't know how long he attacked her spot. You didn't know the lapse in time either. Too lost in the heavy breathing and panting, neither realized the rustling that came with their intimate exchange.

Finally parting with a pop of his lips, the glaze in his eyes once again found hers. Then they noticed it.

When he parted, his hand had remained where it originally pulled at her neckline. At least, that's what he originally thought. Relon's hand, once having stretched You's shirt to expose her entire shoulder, had descended.

Now, his hand held the overly stretched neckline from one end of her neck to her elbow. In doing so, both could only gaze at the lump of flesh partially exposed.

"You…" One look up finally allowed her to regain her clarity. Relon was inching towards her. Only, she recognized his hand reach not for her breast, but to her shirt.

Carefully, he lifted her shirt back into place. Then he scooted back against the wall.

Just like the previous night, she found herself cuddling against him with sheets covering their forms. Without thinking, his hands wrapped around her stomach. The beating of their hearts couldn't be quelled.

That repetitive thumping reverberated through the other's body. A sense of peace came with understanding the other's body. A peace only they could grasp.

"I am so getting a hickey," she chuckled.

"Ah, my bad."

"Do you actually feel bad?"

"Not this time," he grinned, hugging her tighter. "If anything, I just marked you as mine."

She could only look at him dumbfounded. Had he really gotten better at smooth talking thanks to her? She couldn't stop the heat that remained in her cheeks to grow hotter. Even so, she also couldn't stop smiling as she nuzzled into his touch.

"Good. Because I don't want to be anyone else's, Relon Lucinance. Just yours and only yours." That confession alone at this point was a given, but saying it only made his chest grow tighter. Still, to emphasis, she drew his hands to rest atop her chest, the sensation of her beating heart ever clearer.

"Understood, You Watanabe," he murmured, kissing her cheek. It wasn't a peck, but a more tender, longer, expression of affection.

Ding.

It was a familiar chime to Relon and to an extent You as well.

"That's mine," Relon said as You reached to grab his phone before passing it to him.

"Looks like a text," You commented as she snuggled back against him.

"Who could possibly-" Then his eyes grew wide.

"Relon?" She wondered to peer her head to read the screen. Moments later, she too went wide-eyed.

Riko Sakurauchi: Good evening, Lucinance-kun. I apologize for the sudden text so late at night. I hope I didn't disturb you. I wanted to thank you for your help earlier. What you said really gave me a lot to think about. So, I was wondering. If you're not busy tomorrow, would you like to hang out? Just the two of us if that's okay. There's still much I'd like to discuss with you. If you see this in the morning, then I hope to hear your response then. Regardless, have a good night and sleep well :).

Both could only reread the paragraph as one thing stood out amongst the rest.

"She wants to hang out? Alone?" He nervously gaped.

"Did you just get asked out on a date? By Riko-chan?!"

That concept they knew as their friendship would now face a new concept.

The concept known as competition.
