Hey, so you might notice that Len still isn't here. Honestly, it's going to be like that until I figure out the whole love interest issue.
I don't own Vocaloid. If I did there would be an anime.
May 17, Thursday.
BEEP…BEEP……BEEEEEP
-*Yawn*-
Gumi woke up to her alarm, completely exhausted. Strangely enough, she remembered setting the alarm but she couldn't remember going to sleep.
"Ugh..." she groaned. After sluggishly getting out of bed, Gumi walked to the bathroom to start her day off with a cold bath. It woke her up a bit.
While eating breakfast , Gumi realized she was actually going to make it to school on time. Which meant she could attend her art class. Since she missed it the other day, it was pretty exciting. But, she would've been much more excited, if she wasn't so tired.
Once she finished eating, Gumi went back to her room to get dressed. Walking in, Gumi noticed something was different. Her room wasn't very big, she was pretty sure it was meant to be a closet. So, she easily spotted a stack of papers that weren't there before. It was the homework she'd gotten from school. Now, she could remember what happened last night. She'd been working on the homework she had all night, and she nearly finished. She must've fallen asleep, and Gumo probably tucked her in when he got home. Gumi was pretty bummed about not being able to start on one of her new mangas, but she could probably finish the rest of her homework on the train.
"Hheelllloooooo!?~"
………
"HELLO!!??"
"W-wha.. huh." Gumi stammered. She had been lying on the floor. Looking up, she saw a girl that looked exactly like her. Well, if she had a bunch of piercings, some tattoos, shorter hair with different colored highlights, and a broken arm.
"I suppose that was an adequate decision," said another clone.
"Not this again," Gumi thought. She knew who her weird clones were. They were embodiments of her thoughts, only present in a strange dream world. Honestly, she preferred dreams without them, because they were pretty annoying. There were five of them in total. Impulse, the one that woke her up. Logic, the practical smarty-pants with a tight bun and glasses. Positivity, the happy goody two-shoes with pigtails and colorful glitter. Negativity, The gloomy grump that always wore black clothes and way too much black makeup. Lastly, that extremely annoying c-
"i Th0UgHt U iS d3Ad!" cArR0t yelled.
"Not the carrot…" Gumi groaned. The carrot was literally just a carrot, Gumi honestly had no idea why it even existed.
"Who the fuck allowed the annoying ass vegetable to be here!?" Negativity fumed.
"I say it was, Miss happy-go-lucky." Impulse accused.
"I concur," said Logic. "Do you have something to tell us, Positivity?"
"W-well. Yes, I did," Positivity admitted. "But we can't just leave it all alone in the abyss. That is cruel and wrong."
"Seriously?" Gumi complained. "You really want this thing around?"
"I-"
"Y0u dOnT UnDrsTAnD!!!" cArR0t loudly interrupted. "Sh3 sAvED M3h Fr0m A teRRiBl3 MoNSt3r iN Da AbYSs, iT wAS Ab0Ut To0 T3aR mE T0 Shr3DS!!!"
"I'll tear you to shreds.." Negativity murmured.
"sHUt uP!!!!!" cArR0t screamed. " ….. bUT ShE BLinD3d iT wItH h3R UgLY GLiTtEr. WhIcH bYe t3H WaY, iS To ShINy. U iS BuRn mY EyES, DaT iS a SafETy hAzARd!!! i'D SuE iF I dIdnT 0wE yOu!!!"
………
"I see your point," Positivity finally agreed.
"There aren't even any monsters in this dream world." Logic quipped.
………
"So… I can get rid of it?" Negativity asked.
"N0!!!!!!!" cArR0t screeched. "nO0oOo0O-"
"OK, FINE! Just shut the fuck up!" Negativity barked back.
"Why am I here anyway?" Gumi puzzled.
"b3CaUSe m3H!" cArR0t answered still as loud as ever. "dIdNT u C wAt HapPEn yESt3rdAy?!?!"
"What? At school?"
"y3S!!"
"Oo, I know! We made a bunch if amazing new friends and on our first day!" Positivity beamed.
"I wouldn't call them friends, they just met. They're better seen as close acquaintances." Logic corrected.
"So what? They're probably just faking it, so they can expose all of our secrets." Negativity commented.
"Yeah! We should totally just skip school," Impulse added. "Then, we'll have nothing to worry about!"
"Nothing but the consequences of skipping school," Logic argued. "That's possibly the worst idea, you could have had."
"w3 sH0uLd MaKE tHe ScHO0l gO KaB0oM!1!!" cArR0t intervened.
"I stand corrected. That idea is much worse."
"tHeS3 *FrI3nDs*-"
"Close acquaintances."
"cL0tHeS AcQUaINtiMenTAcES, tH3y R CLeaRlY sPIes DaT aRe HeR3 To0 DeStRo-"
"THAT'S IT!" Negativity roared.
Negativity stomped away. To… somewhere. Gumi wasn't even sure where this *abyss* was, they appeared to be in the middle of a white void.
"PuT M3H dOwN U ShE-D3viL!!" cArR0T continued to scream. "i WiLl G3t mY LAwYeRS, I-"
cArR0t's voice began to faded away.
"Am I going to have to deal with this shit for the rest of my life?" Gumi grumbled.
"Gumi…" Positivity uttered.
"Well, actually I have reason to believe that you'll grow out of this dream world," Logic assured.
"Gumi…" Impulse joined.
"Gumi…" Logic followed.
"What?" Gumi questioned. "WHAT?! What is it?!"
"Gumi…. Gumi…. GUMI-"
"Gumi… Gumi?"
"Huh, wha-" Gumi finally woke up, only to see an empty classroom.
"Crap," She thought. She knew she had been asleep, but she was too distracted to think about where she had fallen asleep.
"Gumi! You're up, I was starting to think something was wrong," Rin had been trying to wake her. "Well, you better get going unless you want to be late for class."
"O-oh, thanks Rin," Gumi stammered.
"No problem, see you later."
"Bye."
Gumi had art class next. She got up and started rushing to class.
In art class, Gumi decided to paint a portrait of the two girls she had been sitting next to. The shorter one had a more rebellious look. Her uniform wasn't exactly neat and tidy like the other girl's uniform but she had some cool pins, jewelry, and ripped tights. Meanwhile, the other girl was more plain, but she still was pretty striking. She was quite tall and looked beautiful with her long silvery hair, oval frame glasses, and big bow. Gumi wasn't even sure if the two girls were friends. Either way, she was having a fun time painting her little masterpiece. She was too distracted to realize when one of them noticed her art, while she had started painting some of the finishing details.
"Woah! That's fucking sick!" The girl exclaimed.
"Huh? Oh, thanks," Gumi replied.
"Is that supposed to be me and Haku?"
"..Hm!?... W-wha...M-me?" The other girl, presumably Haku, stuttered.
"Yeah. I thought you guys had a really cool style," Gumi explained. "I hope you two don't mind."
"What?! Of course not!" The girl responded. "Right, Haku?"
"O-oh, um y-yeah.." Haku answered, shyly.
"You're new, right? What's your name?"
"I'm Gumi."
"…Nah… you look more like a carrot."
"But I'm not…"
"The orange tie is like the bottom, and your hair is the top!"
"I mean sure but-"
"CARROT-TOP!!"
"What?"
"That's your new nickname."
"Umm.. I mean I've been called 'Gummy' before but-"
"Nah, I don't like that one. Haku, what do you think? It's cool, right?"
"I-it's nice," Haku quietly agreed.
"See?! It's perfect." The girl concluded. "Anyway, I'm Neru."
"Is that your real name or a nickname? Are there any nicknames I should know about or...?-" Gumi questioned.
"Neru is just my actual name... And the nicknames are a work in progress, alright?!"
"Oh… ok. So does that mean y-"
"I'm not changing your nickname."
Neru and Gumi continued to talk, and paint for the rest of class. Haku would make small comments, from time to time. She clearly wasn't interested in social interaction.
When lunch time came around the corner, Gumi didn't know where to sit. In science class, Rin told Gumi that she was having cheer practice during lunch with Miku, Meiko, and Luka.
Gumi knew she could sit with Rin's other friends, but she wasn't as comfortable around them as she was with Rin. So instead, Gumi sat by herself, and started munching on some baby carrots.
Suddenly, Gumi felt something brush up against her leg. Looking under the table, Gumi saw a girl who definitely wasn't there before. She could have sworn she had seen her in one of her classes. The girl was hunched over scribbling in a notebook, while holding a walkie-talkie, and wearing binoculars around her neck. Gumi couldn't remember completely, but she believed her name was Teto.
"Uhh….. Hi?" Gumi asked, with extreme concern. "What are you-"
"My position has been compromised, I repeat, my position has been compromised!" Teto whispered into her walkie-talkie. Then, she jumped up from under the table and quickly sat down.
"HI!…. You're the new girl, right? Gumi, was it?"
"Umm… yeah…"
"Yo, Drills, what the hell are you yapping about?" Neru questioned after coming seemingly out of nowhere, and sitting at the table, all while staring at her phone. Haku slowly following behind her.
"Oh, hey Carrot-top." Neru finally looked up from her screen.
"Hey?"
"So... what are you doing all by yourself?"
"Oo, I know! The cheer squad is having cheer practice, so she probably has nobody to sit with!" Teto chimed, and then started to chew on a baguette.
"How did you-" Gumi started.
"We're the members of the news club," Neru answered, before Gumi could even finish her question.
"That doesn't really explain anything."
"Whatever. It looks like you caught us taking a break. Our schedule doesn't usually involve lunch time."
"This.. is you guys having lunch?…"
"Well, duh. We're in the lunch room, eating." Neru remarked, before chomping on some frozen grapes.
"…I guess…"
"So, do you guys write a newspaper or something?"
"Yep, it's totally awesome," Teto boasted. "On it, we, of course, have the basic school news column. But more importantly, the gossip column, and-"
"The shipping column!" Haku interrupted, with much more confidence than before.
"The shipping column?" Gumi asked.
"Of course! We keep up on all the latest ships. You should totally read it!" Teto advertised.
"W-well, if you want too. Of course," Haku added. "We don't have a lot of readers, most of the time, but we don't mind."
"So.. you spy on people? That can't be allowed."
"It's not spying, it's collecting information," Neru corrected. "Technically, it isn't allowed, and the school wouldn't let us make an official club or write an actual paper. But, we thought fuck that shit, so now we have our own blog-site."
"...Am I on it?" Gumi wondered.
"Well, kinda. You're the new girl, so we had to write a little something about you. Nothing bad," Teto explained.
"I-it's not a problem if we write about you, r-right?" Haku asked.
"I mean, I guess it's okay. As long as, it's nothing bad…" Gumi was pretty sure they'd still write about her. With or without her approval. They seemed pretty passionate about their club.
Gumi spent the rest of lunch with the girls. They were pretty strange, but they were still cool people.
During free period, Gumi decided to stay at the library. She wanted to read one of her new mangas, specifically the yaoi ones. She wouldn't to pick something more appropriate to read in public, but the mature stories were just calling her name. Well, all the new manga she bought was in the mature section. But, she could've at least brought a 13 instead of the 18. Either way, she couldn't have anyone notice what she was reading, so she hid it in the pages of a book from the library. So far, she was really liking the story. It was written by one of her favorite authors.
"Heyo! Watcha reading?" Rin beamed, and looked over Gumi shoulder. "Ooh, is that some mang-mm"
In a panic, Gumi covered Rin's mouth with her hand. Doing so, made her drop the book on the table, which made the manga fall out. Rin's eyes immediately darted to the manga's spicy cover. Noticing something was off, Gumi glanced to where Rin was looking. As if she wasn't panicked enough, this made things ten times worse. Quickly, Gumi grabbed the manga and stuffed it into her bag.
"Umm..I-.." Gumi stuttered.
"What's wrong?" Rin puzzled.
"...I-I-... well...um..."
"What? Cause' you like yaoi? So what!? I mean, honestly I'm also a bit of a fan. But either way, I still really like you for you. A stupid bunch of paper changes nothing."
"...Thanks, Rin." Gumi replied.
The two practically just met, but somehow Gumi felt like she could trust Rin with anything. They talked about manga and some of their secret interests for the rest of the period. They even swapped phone numbers. If there was anyone Gumi knew she could call a friend, it was Rin.
Arriving home, after walking from school with Rin, Gumi started working on her homework. Later, Gumo called her down for dinner, it was stir fried vegetables. The two hadn't talked since Gumi started her new school. But, she already knew what he was gonna ask.
"So… how was school?" Gumo questioned. "I know we didn't get to talk yesterday, so now's our chance."
"Um.. it was alright," Gumi answered.
"Come on, just alright? You know you can always talk to me."
"I know.."
"Did you make any new friends?"
"Well.. yeah."
"Tell me about them." Gumo said, before taking a sip of his drink.
"Well, there's Rin. We're pretty close, she's super friendly and bubbly. She even loves oranges, like how I love carrots."
"She sounds like fun."
"Yeah, and she's got this big circle of friends."
"What are they like?"
"Well, there's Miku, she's a bit of a diva but she still pretty nice. There's also Luka, she's all calm and caring, Meiko, she's mature and almost motherly. There's Kaito, he's-"
"Oo, a boy!?"
"Shut up!?" Gumi laughed. "He's sweet and a bit of a klutz, even though he doesn't look that way. And there's Gakupo, he's pretty elegant and cool."
"Huh, what an interesting group of people."
"And, today I met the girls in the news club."
"The news club?"
"Well, it's not a real club. It's less of a news club, and more like a gossip, and shipping club."
"That doesn't sound good."
"I know but they're actually pretty cool."
"Yeah? Do you want to tell me about them too?"
"Sure, there's Neru, she's rebellious and kinda harsh, she's still good company though. But, she's usually on her phone, or thinking of nicknames. Then, there's Teto, she's bubbly kinda like Rin, she can be a bit ditzy, but clever from time to time. She also seems to really like baguettes. I can't say much about Haku, she's really shy and silent but she seems nice. Their all really passionate about what they do."
"They sound alright, but it's still pretty shady."
"You don't have to worry, if anything bad happens, I'll talk to them."
"I know you can handle that kind of stuff by yourself, but if you ever need me, I'm here."
The two continued to talk, while they ate their dinner. After dinner, Gumi washed the dishes. Gumi and her brother would swap jobs every day for who would cook and who would wash the dishes. Well, on days Gumo was home. Before, going to bed Gumi decided to continue reading her yaoi manga. It got pretty spicy.
Even thought she was the new girl at school, things were starting to look up for Gumi.
Ooh, hey that chapter was a bit longer.
Anyway, I just want to say that a good bit of inspiration came from the fanfiction "Dear Gumi," by manateelover777. They never finished their story but it was still good. SO READ IT! O.o
I mean…. the main reason I'm mentioning this is because of the nickname "Carrot-top". I literally have no idea if that's an actual thing or if the author just made it up, but I'm giving them credit anyway.
Can y'all maybe suggest some good nicknames for Neru to use?
Like, all I can think is Drills for Teto, and idk maybe, Haiku for Haku.
Also, any Neru ships y'all want cause I got an idea.
Should Gumi still be an otaku when she grows up? Cause I'm not so sure. (A closet otaku, of course.)
There are some pretty good BananaXCarrot stories out there but almost all of them were never finished. Big sad ;3;
But I shall finish!! It's not like I have anything better to do.
If you liked the story, TELL ME IN SOME WAY. Otherwise, I mean I'm still going to finish this, but I'll think nobody is reading. So do it, sign up, DO IT!!!!
Sorry, peer pressure is wrong…
Ok.
See ya.
