30 days second cylon war

Scorpia

Commander Samantha O'neal leaned tiredly against the small tactical station aboard her old Atlas carrier Heimdall; it had been nearly twelve hours since the Cylon fleet arrived and the second battle for Scorpia had started. And it wasnt looking good for them looking over the uncountable red icons on Heimdall's DRADIS. Thanks to her task forces position they hadn't been pinned by cylons on all sides like others had been before they were blown apart.

Looking at the models for the three ships she had lost so far, she counted herself lucky. Looking over the twenty two other ships in her small fleet she swallowed. Her force consisted of six Atlas class carriers, five Berserk assault carriers, eight Firestar's, and four Gunstars loaded with area denial rapid fire Flakk cannons.

In their first engagement against fourteen Cylon ships including four Basestars they had done exceptionally well destroying eight of the former colonel warships in quick succession until a near miss from a cylon nuke temporarily overloaded the targeting computers and allowed several dozen missiles including a nuke to rush in unbothered and destroy a Firestar and a Berserk.

Since then they have kept their distance and simply used their large airwing of Vipers and Raptors to intercept incoming waves and lend aid to nearby Colonial ships. They haven't taken any significant losses since losing a few strike craft as they did their best to cut down the vastly numerical cylons.

But with the destruction of the UNSC crossbow dozens of smaller ships and four Battlestars so far it was only a matter of time before the fleet was overwhelmed and humanity was extinct. But by the Frakking GODS she swore she would make them pay for every human life under her command tenfold.

And to achieve that goal her ships had to remain intact and mobile, not tied down exchanging broadsides with overwhelming cylon ships. So far, it had worked beyond the first encounter since they had jumped in right on top of them. She watched the returning force of craft counting them. She had started with around four hundred Vipers. Counting the fifty Vipers of the fleet's CAP she counted three hundred and eight returning from their latest strike bringing with them three heavily damaged Firestars. And she made a tight fist against the panel to keep from shaking forty two Vipers didn't return

"Quiver, Hyperion, and Cronus" Samantha named off the damaged frigates "take position at the center of our formation and be prepared to receive engineer Raptors to assist in repairs."

The three captains all gave their grateful thanks and took positions inside the double layered arrowhead formations of the six Atlas carriers. As they arrived a pair of raptors from each carrier launched carrying engineers toward the heavily damaged ships.

The last ten hours had been a hectic near free for all between the overwhelming numbers of cylon operated ships and the more experienced crews of the human ships. Nearly a third of the base ships had been destroyed thus far along with nearly that number in cylon controlled colonial ships. But by this time the engaged UNSC warships were nearly out of ammunition, relying on their secondary batteries and point defense weapons to hold the flood of Cylons at bay.

The only ship UNSC ship that wasn't directly engaged was their Artemis carrier siting protective between the loaded civilian ships and the mass the invaders its large squadron of nearly one hundred longswords doing much the same as hers going in blasting everything they could and then returning for resupply.

A buzz drew her attention back to the bridge as the XO Captain Dylan Hunt came up holding a datapad "Ma'am we have the initial engineering survey from the Firestars." he said looking up and holding the pad out "it's not as bad as it could be."

Samantha took the pad and skimmed it over quiver and Hyperion were repairable but the Cronus's back was broken as well as three of its five sublight drives had been shot so full of holes it was dangerous to even attempt to maneuver it.

"Strip the Cronus of everything you can to get the others back in combat readiness, use as many engineers to get this done yesterday." she said after looking over the extensive damage of the Cronus.

Dylan nodded agreeing with her assessment and began issuing the necessary orders. Several raptors returned to their parent ships to pick up additional engineering teams and equipment to strip the broken wreck that was the Cronus.

Over the next hour they continued their distant assault, the entire fleet targeting any ship attempting to close alpha striking even an old Minerva class battlestar the cylons had grabbed from somewhere hitting it as soon as it entered weapons ranged with nearly three hundred heavy shells and missiles in the span of a few seconds.

Occasionally as the fighters returned crippled colonial ships followed them back to Samantha's fleet. Some were able to be repaired with spare parts on hand to actively join the fight. Whereas others were stripped of anything they could to be used to repair other damaged ships their surviving crew redistributed to bring ships back to full strength or overstrength.

As Samantha's fleet continued to grow she moved slowly closer bringing more cylons under the bombardment of her heavy guns. As her force continued the long range bombardment destroying several smaller ships and forced several others to take shelter behind larger ships.

As the ninth targeted ship, a Beserk shattered into a dozen pieces. Movement from a cluster of seven Minerva battlestars caught her eye, as they launched a salvo of missiles and altered course to bring their heavy topside batteries to bear on the twenty eight ships under the command of Commander O'neal.

Samantha saw the launch of nearly fifty missiles and called out "Firestar's switch to flakk rounds Gunstars back the firestars everyone else load AP and target the Minerva's."

As she watched the eleven firestar's followed by the four Gunstars move to screen the ships of the fleet turning broadside and covering the entire flank of the fleet in tiny flakk explosions. Watching the missiles dive into the field to be destroyed one by one in quick succession. Until the final eight missiles dove untouched through the barriers and slammed into the firestar Hyperion and broke the ship into three pieces.

"Frakk me." Samantha said as the three pieces of the frigate venting flame, atmosphere…and personnel fell behind the moving fleet.

The light battlestars didn't get off free either as dozens of missiles kept their guns busy as hundreds of shells flew right into the lead ship. The thin armor not designed to take that much of a pounding dented and fractured under the heavy bombardment but not fast enough as another salvo of missiles launched heading towards Samantha's ships.

The Gunstars and Firestars again opened fire with their numerous flakk batteries as the carriers launched their now resupplied vipers and raptors. Not wanting the screening ships to drop the Flakk fire the fighters split heading far below and above the blossoming explosions.

The first minerva tilted to one side as the control cable for the ships engines and thrusters were cut and out of control grazed the next light battlestar ripping its launch bay from the ship in an explosion of fire and debris.

Seeing this "shift fire to the next." Samantha ordered as the fleet shifted fire the missiles came streaking in again through the frigate's flakk field exploding one by one until the last ten made it through the Cap vipers on the ball this time around headed to intercept them. Claiming four of the ten missiles with burst of gunfire the last six streaked in and detonated against the Virgonese heavy cruiser Prince David breaching several compartments but otherwise the ship remained intact.

The Prince David and three other virgonese cruisers returned fire their missiles splitting to bypass the flakk wall and dive towards the closest Mierva the cylons barely had time to shift to flakk rounds themselves throwing a few shells out but not fast enough as the thirty heavy missiles slammed into the first light battlestar and sent it reeling out of formation before it exploded into pieces.

As the Minervas dropped their small flakk barrier to launch another wave of missiles, Smantha caught sight of ships coming up behind the Miervas looking closer, her eyes shot wide. They were four UNSC fighters but slightly different from the Longswords she had seen flying around the last month. And between them four strange purple ships of two different kinds.

Before she could even begin to analyze the new arrivals the UNSC ships opened fire with several wingtip mounted missiles, slamming into several of the heavy gun emplacements and missile silos.

And then the four purple ships opened fire with both a slow moving green and a lightning fast purple weapon; the two Minervas they fired on were caught completely by surprise and most of their weapons and engines were destroyed. The Vironese heavy cruisers took that opportunity to fire their reloaded missiles targeting the two crippled battlestars.

The missiles streaked in bypassing the desperate flakk attempts and slammed into the crippled ships the first broke in half. The second simply detonated as one of the missiles punched through the compromised armor over the ship's reactor.

The ships turned their attention to the last three before they fired though the three hundred Vipers ripple fired their internal missile hardpoints sending over a thousand anti ship missiles into two of the ships unable to take it the ships broke into several pieces or exploded as reactors or engines went critical.

The last cylon battlestar disappeared in a flash as it jumped to FTL.

Samantha let out a deep exhausted sigh looking at the battle continuing to rage "gods, how much more can we take?"
