This is Kakashi/Hinata good ending. His words would always haunt Kakashi even to this day and he was always unsure how to take these his words even to this day.
Five years ago at negotiation tower
Kakashi decided to take guard duty after that whole fresco with Obito holding another guard hostage.
The rogue nin was sat in on his cot nervously fidgeting his legs. He looked at him as soon as he came into the view of the barred window in the doorway. It was almost like he was expecting him? It really shouldn't have surprised the copy nin, because it was probably the Jūbi inside of him that sensed him.
"I was waiting for a time when I would see Kakashi," Obito said, seemingly strict and annoyed like he wished he would have came sooner.
"What's up?" he didn't like the energy he was giving off.
"They're going to execute me soon..."
Time seemed to stop for Kakashi, and he was unsure if he heard him right. He had to be joking? But looking at the demeanor in his face, that this wasn't no laughing matter.
"How true is this because you can't go off of guards gossiping amongst themselves? That is what got you in trouble the first time,"
"This isn't hearsay Kakashi! This is something I know in my heart, and I need you to trust me when I say this!" the rogue nin suddenly snapped at him.
There was a long silence before he could gather himself to speak again.
"You remember when I told you to take care of Rin? I should have never made you make that promise to me,"
Then Obito spilled his heart out about how selfish he was with his love for Rin. Especially since Rin loved Kakashi and has always loved him. The silver nin himself knew this and it was a reason he never reciprocated her feelings back. That promise they made as teenagers meant everything to him that it almost destroyed him.
"I'd failed that promise though or she would have still be here today,"
"No, you didn't, it was mostly because of Madara, but that doesn't matter anymore," Obito tried to go into a tangent about his scumbag of a mentor. He already got what he deserved, a worse fate than hell.
"I'm asking you a favor, I'm trying not to force you to promise me anything. But I cannot protect Hinata and Uteki now. When I die, I know they going to pass on this monster onto my newborn daughter, "
"That's insanity! You have perfect control over the Jūbi!" he was in disbelief that Lady Tsunade would agree to continue this type of cycle after what happened in Naruto's life.
"It is my karma for what I did to sensei, his wife and Naruto. I have to... a-accepted this," Obito finished brokenly with tears freely flowing from his eyes.
"B-But Hinata doesn't deserve this kind of life. Family is everything. Please for Hinata and my daughter just love them because I can't anymore..."
Flashback over
Kakashi remembered how true his words were because the next few days afterwards Obito was executed. The Jūbi was sealed into Uteki thanks to the help of the undead First and Second Hokage since they were the only ones that did not return to the afterlife right away after the war.
When those events happened the copy nin had to reevaluate his priorities in life and being more involved in Hinata and Uteki's lives. He was offered to become the Sixth Hokage, which he had to decline because it was Naruto's and Obito's dream, but not his. The next five years he was focused on becoming a sealing master to help Obito's daughter not be affected by too much of a monstrous chakra and to help Konoha in a different way.
Even though she couldn't have gotten a better seal than from the Second Hokage, no one had to deal with Jūbi's jinchūriki before. He knew why Obito wasn't an ideal candidate and wished he didn't do a lot of the evil deeds he did. It practically sealed his death sentence.
Now here Kakashi was standing in front of Hinata was dressed in a satin, pale pink colored tube top dress. He couldn't stop staring at her thinking how beautiful she was.
'Dammit I really need to be paying attention," he uttered in his lowest voice possible.
He was at Naruto's and Sakura's wedding after all. It was a beautiful Spring day after all. The cherry blossoms were blooming over the entire wedding venue, it was perfect. Sai, Neji, Shikamaru and himself were the groomsmen. While Ino, Temari, Ten-ten and Hinata were the bridesmaids.
Of course, Sasuke was a no show because he was out on a mission. For the life of him he couldn't understand his former student because he could have easily come to the wedding. They practically grew-up with each other and even buried the hatch after all the death matches they were involved in.
Kakashi only was complaining because Sasuke would more than likely be one of his groomsmen than him. Being so formal in a suit and tie was so not his style and it almost made him feel like he was undercover. He rather be in the crowd sitting down looking proud like Iruka did when he walked Naruto down the aisle.
Uteki came out with the flower basket in her hand. She looked as cute as ever in a frilly light pink dress with a giant dark pink bow in the middle of it. Her hair was in two pigtail braids and cherry blossoms between the braids. It was such a shame Obito wasn't alive to see his own daughter because she really was a good balance between him and Hinata. Well minus her white hair, but that was more the tailed beast inside of her fault.
The five year old girl looked nervous and who can blame her there were so many people at this place. With a lot of coaxing from her mother from a distance, she began walking down the aisle and tossing white flower petals in the air. When Uteki got to the podium she spun around and made sure to empty out the petals in the basket and then she waltzed over to Kakashi to hold his hand.
"Uteki you are supposed to go over to your mom, like we rehearse remember?" he spoke softly to her while Hinata was debating whether she should go get her or not.
"Yeah, but your closer and want to be with you instead, godfather!" then she pulled out this sad puppy look that she learned from Pakkun.
"Nice try-"
"Aww it's ok Uteki I'm sure Sakura wouldn't mind!" Naruto completely fell for it.
She smiled victoriously because that usually doesn't work on her mommy or her godfather, but seeing the results let her know it does work.
"That won't always work Uteki, plus you will worry your mom," Kakashi said, knowing exactly what she was thinking. As he suggested toward Hinata.
"Okay I won't do it again..." she replied pouting because he can be no fun sometimes.
"Psst godfather!" Uteki made him lean over to her size to whisper in his ear because she noticed something.
"Uncle Neji is giving you the evil eye again!"
"Oh he is? I'm sure it is nothing,"
Kakashi didn't give him so much as a glance because he can feel his eyes boring in his skull. When was that man not glaring at him? Not understanding the problem was? In the beginning he welcomed him especially after the execution of Obito.
Hinata went through a severe postpartum birth and she was overall depressed from losing her child's father. He made to help her out anyway possible, but over the years her cousin became less and less tolerant with him being around the byakugan princess or his niece.
Kakashi internally sighed, not wanting Uteki to ask what was wrong with him. Neji really was that over protective relative, though he hadn't said anything to him yet, but he could tell that he wanted too. Over the years Kakashi has developed these strong feelings for Hinata. How could he not because she was a great mother, kind, and a wonderful woman to be around.
"Would you look at that," Temari suddenly lighty elbowed Hinata who was next to her.
"I never thought I would see the day where I see Kakashi Hatake giving you googly eyes!"
Hinata only kept eye contact with him from across the aisle for a few seconds, before quickly looking away.
"I-It's not like that! He is just checking if it is alright for Uteki to be with him, that's all!" she muttered back.
"Mmm hmm when your done beating around the bush let me know if your next to be married," as she fully blushed from that comment.
"Will you two can it! We can talk about Hinata's dating life at the reception!" Ino hissed at them because Sakura the beautiful bride was coming down the aisle.
Hinata couldn't focus and the violin swelled in the background with the melody of here comes the bride. Lately everyone was assuming that her and Kakashi were together. Even the children at the Academy were convinced that the copy nin was Uteki's father. Until Uteki told everyone at school that he was her godfather because her real father died in the Fourth Shinobi war.
Hinata hated having to lie to her daughter like that, but only a selected few knew the truth and it was too complicated to tell a child at this age. A godfather was something Kakashi suggested because he saw Uteki as his own anyways. She remembered her heart had skipped a beat and she shed tears of joy over his words.
Kakashi was such a caring, dry humored and handsome man. But she always told herself it was wrong for thinking of him in a romantic way. He was Obito's best friend and didn't want to mess up a good friendship they had for each other. Plus Hinata had to think about her daughter if the dynamic gotten ruined, Kakashi might not want to be around them anymore. That was a terrible heartbreak she could never risk.
