Chapter 2: Kill the Big Story
IT DID NOT TAKE long for the sanguinary women to slightly adapt to this new environment. In their old world, prior to Ben, the world was bleak, blind with rage, conquered by a cabal of powerful people wreaked with evil, violently pernicious with their foul use of power and authority. It was a dog eat dog world. They had no choice but to fight and kill. Kill or be killed, that was life for many of them.
There was no mercy.
No second chances.
No redemption.
No one had a care in the world because the world was so bleak. Those who stood against it were the ones to die before their perpetrators met their end, albeit through gruesome means.
They had their hands coated in blood, their emotions shut off, their humanity burned through the reams of hellfire. They were no angels. It was like the old saying goes: "repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all."
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. From war came peace; a goal that was more possible in fantasy than in reality.
As their souls bathed in the holy waters of peace and serenity, tears flowed from their eyes like a stream in a quiet forest from the Great White North. As their friend Ben and Kevin drove around in the horseless carriage of theirs, they were enamored at how bright and plentiful the world was.
This was Ben's Earth.
There was no corruption anywhere! The people were happy! Here they were living their everyday lives without a care in the world. Why would Ben bring them here? To brag? To show off?
Akame's heart skipped a beat when Kevin stopped at a traffic light; she turned to see young kids with their mother walking across the street together. A small smile creased her face as her hand pressed softly against the window.
Sheele, enamored by the world, could imagine herself just living here with her beloved. The kids they would have, the family they would raise. The possibilities were endless for the purple assassin; however, a thought came to mind.
With her heart forever glued to the Green Changeling, the machinations concocted by the soul of the assassin transfixed with the amount of awe of wonderment.
In a way, they were jealous; Akame wanted to bash Ben's head up against the glove compartment. How was it that a person like Ben be cursed to carry the burden to protect a quiet world. It was almost scary…almost.
…
Meanwhile back at the house, prior to them heading out, Kevin's lungs contracted to its limit as he laughed up a storm. His stomach, pushed to the back of his spine; he felt the overwhelming force of his entire body pressing down on him as he could not bear the weight of the comedy that was standing in front of him.
Ben, the guy who was far more awkward around women, with less loyalty to one than an average street whore on the curb, shot his muscular, black-haired friend a sharp glare; unfortunately, just before Ben could confront him, his skin turned pale and his eyes became dead. His heart skipped several beats as his blood froze. His stomach boiled, his joints jittered, his bones cracked, and his soul leaked out of his ears.
Standing quietly behind Kevin was a tall woman of slender build. She had fair skin, pale green eyes, and blonde hair. She had on a red blouse, black pants, and black flats. She carried a large brown paper bag of groceries, something to which caught Akame's attention.
"Ben?" Sandra said, confused, frozen in place in complete shock of her son in the company of two women: one with long flowing, raven black hair with awe capturing ruby red eyes; and a woman, who looked slightly older with a voluptuous, albeit athletic build with a noticeable breast window in plain view. Her eyes were also strange and alien. Her amethyst eyes and her lavender dress were hidden by her introverted and modest demeanor. Her dress was slightly conservative. The scene wasn't risqué; the atmosphere was clean and affable, bleached from any potential bawdiness a mother would be haunted to see; however, this did not spare Sandra's trademarked eye twitch.
"Hey honey, I…wha…"
Standing behind the woman was a man with fair skin and brown eyes. He wore a white dress shirt, and brown pants secured by a brown leather belt with a gold buckle, complete with brown shoes.
He came in more warmly than Sandra, well up until he saw the scene of his son with two women. As a father, he wanted to celebrate with his son with trash beer while talking while shooting the crap to see how Ben managed to score two women at the same time, but then he remembered he was married to Sandra, so he had to slightly pivot like a conservative politician.
"Ben…care to explain?" Sandra asked, her thoughts now in order.
Ben tried to come up with an excuse as to why two women were in his house. He turned to Akame, to whom, for lack of better words to describe, backed slightly away from Ben. Sheele did not move a muscle.
"I have…an essay of reasons," Ben replied, choosing his words very carefully.
"I bet it's a novel," Kevin joked. Sandra shot Kevin a death glare; Kevin lowered the volume of his laughter and turned to the door.
"I'll be in the car," Kevin said.
Once Kevin left, Ben sighed; he sat his parents down and told them everything that went on. Though, there were a few things he omitted, it was enough to let the parents know that he was sent there without his consent nor his knowledge by Paradox, a revelation that DID NOT sit well with Akame or Sheele. They hid their anger almost as well as Sandra.
"So this Dr. Paradox guy just sent you there without your knowledge, have you been forced to fight in some war that you had no part in, knowing that you could get killed, albeit by the smallest of margins to save the universe from ripping itself apart," Sandra summarized.
"Did you at least get some?" Carl asked, with seriousness in his voice, making Ben and Sheele; Sheele mostly as her eyes were glued to the floor, this did not escape Sandra; however, she had to put that in the mental bin for safe keeping, hoping what she saw from Sheele's reaction wasn't true due to the nature of Carl's question.
Sandra, like any sane person would, elbowed her husband. "Carl?"
"What?! Ben's a teenage boy! What? You weren't soaked when two guys were in your house?" Carl defended.
Sandra blushed, "CARL YOU PROMISED YOU'RE NOT GONNA BRING THAT UP!" she shouted embarrassed.
"Sandra, come on, before you dated me, you dated Frank. And before you dated Frank, you dated some guy named Nerville Rogers with his dog. C'mon, Ben's gonna be 16 once!" Carl pointed out.
"Ugh! My boy of mine is not gonna have two girls in my house lusting over him and dropping panties on my waxed floor! I don't wanna be a grandmother when he's in High School! He's only permitted when he graduates from college with a Doctorate." Sandra groaned.
As they argued, Ben's head collapsed to his hands, burying his face from utter embarrassment. Akame, wanting to laugh, manually took a deep breath to control herself. Things went from bad to worse when THIS was brought up.
"Listen, Sandra, do you honestly believe that our son can't pull these two ladies? I mean look, look, look…" Carl pointed out.
"Carl no." Sandra warned.
"Nah, nah, nah, listen to me. Listen to me," Carl began, "Ben could be procreating with one of them, probably the one with the breast window!"
"CARL!" Sandra said angrily, with Akame, no longer controlling herself, collapsed to the floor bawling out of laughter.
Even though this could be seen as rude, it was more of a wake up call for Sandra to negate Carl's assumption that Akame and Sheele were sleeping with Ben. However, Sheele barely hid her true feelings as she played with her hair, twirling it just a patch as Ben groaned.
…
Akame's monstrous appetite wasn't anything new. At the Burger Shack in Bellwood, Akame amazed Kevin by devouring ten boxes of chili fries, that was 5 times more than Ben would have eaten in a single day.
Oh, and didn't we forget to mention that they also stopped by at Mr. Smoothy, where both Akame and Sheele both developed an instant love for SMOOTHIES?!
As Akame managed to consume 10 Extra Large Cup Size Smoothies, that was 10 times more than Ben would also have eaten in a single day.
Ben, though he shouldn't be surprised by Akame's voracity, couldn't help himself but to stare at Akame's stomach. It was slightly bloated, but not in a way that realistically would swell into. It was as if she had not gained an inch.
"What is her stomach made of?" Ben asked.
"THIS IS AMAZING! WHAT DO YOU CALL THIS?" Akame yelled, like she had a sense of purpose.
"It's chili fries," Ben said with a smile. "I see that you are...well enjoying them."
"CHILI FRIES! OH MY GOODNESS, THE MEATY GOODNESS IS JUST TOO ADDICTING!" she shouted, devouring every piece of food from the box while earning everyone's gaze.
"You feeling ok?" Ben asked.
"Of course! If I don't eat, I'll fall ill! Even my stomach belongs to you!" Akame said with a bright smile.
"See Ben, Akame belongs to you!" Kevin mocked. Ben shot a glare.
Sheele on another hand, who had eaten just a shy amount of chili fries than her friend, showed a bit of fullness through her dress. Just slightly.
"Tennyson, you gotta tell me," Kevin began.
"Kevin…no…" Ben begged.
"Did you smash?" Kevin asked.
"Kevin, do you really have to ask that?" asked the red headed girl with the similar green eyes. She darted her glare to the muscular teen with disdain. Gwen sighed and stared at Ben as Sheele held his hand.
"Ben, why would Paradox set you up to head over to their world to save it? He could have altered events on his own," Gwen said.
"I don't care about the reasoning," Akame replied, "the thing is that he saved us. Plus had he not arrived our outcome would have been much darker, far bleaker than what we would have imagined it to be," Akame finished, defending Ben.
"Well, based on what he told us, maybe it was for the best, but still…" Gwen sighed.
"You know Paradox, he will dump you in a place and make you figure out what was going on," Kevin said, "Hell, I remember when you and I were teleported to a world where we had to assist some kid and his magical yellow dog in some candy kingdom or some crap like that," Kevin said before changing the subject.
"Have Ben told you about his piloting skills?" Kevin said, cracking up.
"STOP TALKING, KEVIN!" Ben yelled, knowing full well what Kevin was referring to.
"Piloting skills?" Sheele questioned.
"Don't ask," Ben said.
"It's not his fault, I could have slept with him had I not messed up the first time we met," Akame said, out in the open in plain view. Ben, who's ears struggled to register this information, found himself deaf. Sheele's eye twitched a bit, Kevin swallowed the last bit of meat that was drowning inside of his mouth, and Gwen chuckled.
"So…about that harem?" Kevin laughed again.
"There won't be a harem, because I will be with him. Akame's my friend and nothing will come between us," Sheele said. Akame just took a deep breath, this time, her emotions were not as concealed, but it was barely noticeable. Her feelings started to frail up like a leg injury.
"Not unless it involves Ben," Kevin said, drinking his orange soda.
"Kevin?" Gwen said, with a stern voice.
"Yeah?" Kevin asked, his face turned sour as he stared at Gwen scolding him. Her arms crossed and her eyes narrowed, piercing down his soul, demanding him to stop.
"Okay," Kevin said with a sheepish tone in his voice. Gwen turned to Ben and the girls with curiosity in their eyes.
"I still can't believe that they want to risk their lives for you after all they put you through," Gwen said.
"Ben saved our lives multiple times, all without reward," Akame said, "As was reported he was sent to our world against his will, all without his knowledge or consent, and yet he still risked his life to save ours. So in return we asked him whether or not we can head over to his world, and to help him fight his threats! We're not blind, we acknowledge how powerful your enemies are, but it's not gonna stop us from being the heroes we want…" Akame belched a loud burp, a good chunk of the food that rocketed out of her mouth from her stomach splattered on Kevin's, red hot face.
Kevin glared at Akame as he wiped his face, "You could have covered your mouth?"
Akame flushed. "I apologize."
"But don't worry, we'll make sure that he's in good hands," Sheele said, grabbing Ben's hand and giving it a light kiss, making Ben blush a little.
Akame, slightly envious, threw a small smile at the couple, however there was a drive in her that made her think. Something sparked inside of her, she wasn't sure what it was, but it was something.
She looked back to Ben, "I'll prove to you that I can be a hero. I won't disappoint you. I promise," Akame said; then something came up, "Wait, how can we protect the world with them?" Akame asked her friend Sheele.
"What do you mean?" Sheele asked, confusedly.
"We are dealing with their enemies, right? When we sparred with Ben, he was always one-upping us, no matter how much we threw at him. We were boastful about protecting him and his family because we had our Imperial Arms. Now we don't." Akame explained.
"Oh," Sheele said.
"What are Imperial Arms?" Gwen asked curiously.
"Imperial Arms are mysterious and extremely powerful relics that exist in our world," Sheele began. "They are rare and only the strongest of warriors are able to wield them. Some have the appearance of equipment or weapons, while others appear to be living creatures. It is implied that a form of magic was used to create them." Sheele explained.
"One of the Imperial Arms I had was a cursed blade called Murasame. One cut, no matter how small, can kill anyone, no matter how strong or durable. It can kill from one strike," Akame said, making Ben sweat a little bit, remembering his encounter with death from that cursed blade.
What set all those weapons apart from anything Ben had ever encountered, THAT blade made him sweat a little bit. Gwen's skin turned pale, but Kevin had a few thoughts.
"If you are serious about joining us, you need a weapon," Kevin pointed out.
"What do you have in mind, Kev?" Gwen asked.
"Let's just say I know a guy," Kevin replied with a grin.
…
IT WAS NIGHT TIME in the small town of Bellwood. It was quiet, serene. Almost empty. You know how the phrase, "It never sleeps in New York" was coined not just for the aforementioned city, but for most if at all major cosmopolitan areas across the United States and beyond, Bellwood would have been the complete opposite of that. The lights were on but nobody was home, it was just an average town.
On the outskirts, just up upon a hill not too far from the highway, a young boy sporting short light-brown hair and black eyes. He wore a green hoodie with a white 10 on the black circle behind the straps, mirroring the green teen hero, and brown cargo pants was armed with his camera looking up at the moon or something strange and weird that had been crashing in the vicinity, albeit away from town.
"Podcast: Thursday, May 25th 10:34 PM," Jimmy began, "The bus to Bellwood took longer than I thought," he smoothly panned his camera to the cave, "If my sources are right, I'm cutting it close!" he said with wonderment.
He turned the camera directly towards him as he sat it down at a nearby boulder. He positioned it in a way so it would not fall while at the same time trying to get the lens to focus, trying to balance the camera while trying to get that perfect shot in. For a young boy, he was quite adventurous, much like his hero; his outfit kinda gave away who he idolized, regarding his age, it was more ironic to say the least. Chasing the latest scoop to share to his friends, to prove to the world that he was a true journalist, well at least Ben had one journalist who had his back unlike…him.
"Satellite data, web chatter, and a reporter's gut," he said as he backed away from the camera, pulling out a bag of peanuts from his coat pocket, "...all say this isn't just an ordinary meteor strike," he concluded, as he stuffed his face with peanuts, just before he heard a sonic boom from above. Determined, the young boy took his camera and aimed it at the sky above, following the explosion he heard from a moment ago.
He frantically searched for the source for the explosion. He looked here and he looked there; then, out of nowhere, he saw a small meteor appear, rocketing down like a missile fired from a fighter jet at Mach 3.
"There it is!" Jimmy said, following the meteor to a nearby cave, striking it with enough force to blow a house from the foundation. As the dastardly meteor struck the top, the mouth ejected tons of debris and dust, it was like seeing a homeless tweaker hawking out saliva while snorting tons of white powder.
As the debris flooded the area, Jimmy was lost in his own mind; his mind dazed off as it calculated what happened; however, it did not take long before the adventurous investigative journalist ran towards the danger.
"The object seems to have gone into the cave!" he noted, pointing out the obvious as the dust settled, "Coincidence? Doubtful."
…
Inside the dark, damp cave, Jimmy waved his flashlight looking for his scoop. The cave wasn't anything spectacular, it was just ordinary after all. Nothing more than just empty air of rock and darkness. It would have been too dangerous for anyone to explore this region of town, but not for Jimmy. He had to go and find the latest scoop for his blog to show the world how occupied this planet was and thus far the universe, proving to the community that aliens were real and that his idol was looking out for the everyman. He wanted to make his hero proud.
As the brave journalist trekked through the cave, his eyes ogled around searching for his latest news piece. Unfortunately, it was becoming more and more clear that there may not be anything that might prove what he heard that day might have been a farce, or he might have been hearing things online about a meteor striking down various sections of Bellwood. However, things started to go from strange to uncanny.
"Where is that…?" Jimmy asked quietly.
CRACK! Jimmy stopped and looked down, his eyes bulged out and saw something that clearly did not belong in a cave.
"What is this?" he asked, picking it up, "A belt?"
It looked like any other belt, it had the leather brown strap and a hexagonal buckle.
"What is a belt doing out here?" Jimmy asked, looking around the belt, "It doesn't have a brand, let alone a price tag."
Pebbles started falling from the roof of the cave, drawing more suspicions from the young boy. The hole above was no bigger than the diameter of a basketball. Too small to ever be done by a meteor that could cause that much damage.
"No meteor made that, that's for sure," Jimmy concluded, targeting the camera light away from the hole as he arched the strange belt around his shoulder, probably for the intention of taking it to the police for inspection. He walked further down the cave, confused.
"It doesn't look like an alien ship or a probe either," he calculated, "It's…it's… A DUMB SPACE PLANT!" his disappointment was measured to that of a journalist who was promised the world but got a cay, a tiny island so small you could physically measure a coastline with a keyboard. His disappointment was immeasurable.
"News? Yes. Scoop? No!" he whined. He aimed the camera's flashlight at the unimpressive but strange space plant that lied upon his eyes. He groaned.
"Come on!" he whined once again, "The least you could do is bloom or something?"
Answering the cries of the adventurous, yet whiny investigative journalist, the flower did bloom, but not in a way that would benefit anyone who could pump blood into their veins. The plant sprouted out and opened its mouth, welcoming Jimmy with his guttural roar as it locked its demonic red eyes at its prey.
It sprouted its tentacles and wrapped itself around the young boy. Panicking, Jimmy tried to run, but his camera dropped to the hard ground capturing everything that happened. The plant pulled on him like a carnivorous game of tug-of-war. The plant pulled him, forcing him to drop the belt and the bag of peanuts from his coat pocket.
