CHAPTER ONE

LOOK OUT WORLD!

Life as a hero is not always easy. They require sacrifice, dedication, discipline, and an overall strict moral code to keep a hero on their feet, never shy from their main mission to serve and protect the public. Heroes from all shapes and sizes came and went, breeding a new generation of heroes; though, when there are heroes, unfortunately there are villains. Villains who are hellbent on creating discord and chaos for the ones who dedicate their lives to protect freedom and enforce justice, protecting those who cannot protect themselves, as the old saying goes.

Enter Ben Tennyson, a scruffy, teenage boy, just a few days shy from his 18th birthday, wore a black short-sleeved T-shirt, blue jeans, and a green jacket with white stripes on his left sleeve, and the number 10 on the right, white socks, completed with black and white Converse-style shoes. On his wrist bore the gauntlet-like device. However, unlike the old version from years ago, this version of the Ultimatrix was not light green, but was black in color with four white lines around the band close to the dial and containing a green rectangular button and wrist couplings with the left and right side being green with two small white tubes. It had a green dial (with the dial face being black in color) containing four small lines around it and the band extending up to almost a quarter of his arm, but the central core's form remained the same.

Out of all the heroes throughout the multiverse, this one here was not defined by tragedy. Hardships, yes sure, but not enough for anyone to call him a tragic hero. In fact, for many, they would regard him as a stereotypical Saturday Morning cartoon character.

That said, bringing him to this world was more of a disservice to this guy, but from what I've seen from this man, it could be worth the price. It's like the old saying goes: misery builds character. I almost feel sorry for bringing this man here, but a man of his calibre was needed. VERY needed for what was to come.

The young boy slowly opened his eyes, groaning as his head mildly throbbed. He sat up, his sight still a blur, barely opened. He got comfortable as he started to stretch out his body, he yawned as his arms stretched outwards. After settling in, his eyes cleared just a bit. When his vision cleared, the young boy narrowed his eyes, confused and well…slightly annoyed.

"Great, taking me away from my universe to another without warning, huh Paradox?" Ben said, with an 'I'm so done' tone in his voice. He looked around and was very impressed by the impressive architecture. The cave he woke up in was a massive lair, a headquarters. Massive in size, spacious, much like one of the dark-lit heroes he was a fan of. It was dimly lit with some blue hue. There was a massive monitor right across from him.

"Something tells me that this might be a universe with superheroes," he guessed, "And none of them are here. Huh. Way to keep the place guarded," Ben said. He lighted his arm activating the Ultimatrix's GPS systems to check where he was. To his shock…it wasn;t all that much. Nothing different. Nothing sophisticated, or strange, or otherworldly. The world looked mundane and the same! Nothing out of the ordinary, at least not yet. Things tend to turn left when one least expects it.

"Maybe I have not been transported to another universe and maybe teleported to somewhere on Earth?" Ben said. "Gotta call Gwen."

He dialed Gwen. "Gwen? Hello Gwen can you hear me?"

"Hello, you've reached Gwendolyn Tennyson! Unfortunately, I'm currently unavailable, but I'll return your call as soon as possible. Please leave your name, number, and a brief message, and have a nice day!" the voice message said.

Ben tried again; the voicemail popped up once more, confusing him.

"That's…weird," Ben said, "Gwen usually gets out of school at this time, and normally she picks up. Let me try, Kevin.

Suddenly, there was an emergency happening not too far away. The Ulktimatrix picked up something, and it wasn't something the hero was expecting.

He turned the dial to 5:00, the Ultimatrix picked up something. Static. Something was picking up as Ben tried to clear the signal. Then finally, he got the signal to clear, allowing him to hear the broadcast without any interruptions.

"If you can hear me, strange monsters are attacking the city! If you are within the city limits, evacuate…" Ben's eyes narrowed.

"Gotta be Vilgax and his cronies," Ben said, "Ultimatrix, track the location of the attack."

"Range of conflict: 300 miles from this location," it said.

"Plot location."

"Location marked," the Ultimatrix told the wearer.

"Looks like pondering how I got here needs to wait," Ben said, activating the Ultimatrix. When the core popped up, holograms of different creatures appeared through various poses, some more unique than others. Ben turned the notch to a manta-ray like alien and slammed the dial down, enveloping the young man in a flash of emerald green light. When the light died down stood a red, humanoid, manta-ray-like alien soaring around in the underground lair.

"JETRAY!" Jetray yelled, flying out of the cave's corridor while leaving a strange red streak on the wall.
