Naruto awoke in his dingy apartment, the smell of previous instant ramen cups flooding his nose with their stale stench, the sound of rain poking at the cracked window in a constant tap, tap, tapping away—like some of the kids did at their desks. A dull gray light attempted to enter the room, yet failed as it made little difference in the already dark space.
He threw his legs over the edge of what he considered a bed, slowly arising from his half-awake slouch with a low grumbly sigh, his feet making a soft pat as they came into contact with the icy cold of the floorboards. The cold sensation shot up his legs… yet… he didn't flinch. He never had.
Time for another day at the academy.
He told himself… though it meant nothing.
He arose from the bed and made his way to the crudely installed door that signified his closet, from which he grabbed a black long-sleeve shirt with a hood, a matching pair of pants, and fingerless gloves– sliding into them like a second skin.
Making some final adjustments to the cloth to have some semblance of comfort, though, like the academy, meant just as much.
He found himself at his door, his feet slipped into the nearby sandals, wrapping his hand against the cold worn brass of his front door, with a twist to the right and a pull the cold air breached his apartment like a floodgate was removed, uncloaking himself.
Naruto stepped out into the relentless onslaught of rain–yet not even a drop touched him.
Must be imagining things
So he kept moving forward at a constant rhythmic pace. Down the stairs, then into the now muddy streets of Konoha where he was on full annoying display for all of those… things that call themselves villagers, to him, they were nothing more than another head-ache.
"Look, it's…him. It's that…boy"
"The freak"
"The demon"
That's just what some of the villagers said as they saw Naruto walking past them. Anger, hatred, malice laced in every word… yet none of it bothered the person it was directed towards. In Naruto's mind, none of what he said before convinced them to change or listen, so why should he listen to them?
He didn't, he simply just… kept moving just like always– one step at a time. Eventually, after all those steps, he entered the academy, or as he liked to refer to it.
My other, living hell
It didn't take too long for Naruto to reach Iruka-sensei's classroom– which was already obnoxiously loud before he even walked through the door. And strangely… as soon as he did enter, everyone went quite not unusual far from it for him besides it was peaceful, so it didn't affect him too much… or at all really.
Naruto made his way to his desk that was waiting for him in the back corner of the class… furthest from the door, furthest from the rest of the class, and the only assigned seat.
But hey– at least he got a window seat so… he couldn't– or… more accurately– didn't complain. But hell none of it mattered; if he sat next to the uchiha, a girl, another guy, Iruka– it wouldn't change a damn thing besides his physical position in the classroom.
Naruto didn't even make it halfway up the stairs to his desk before the tormenting began–before he knew it, a paper ball was hurled at him by one of his "classmates" or as he lovingly referred to them as:
Nuisances
But, just like all the previous times, before the paper ball even made contact with him it seem to bend and collapse in on itself completely disappearing without a trace.
Without missing a beat they all called him a freak, monster, demon, or something along those lines–yet still… to Naruto it wasn't even worth giving a reaction to, was it weird, yes; not the fact that they called him names but the fact that sometimes things that were going to hit him either disappeared or seem to shift ever so slightly to miss.
Maybe it was whatever the village hates him for the… kyuubi… or something. He didn't bother remembering, it wouldn't make the "people" of the village hate him any less.
So he didn't– he continued up the stairs his feet making soft, dull, rhythmic taps as he went. As quiet as he tried to make them the silence in the room had them practically sounding like aggravated stomps.
Naruto found himself at his seat, slumping into it, layering his arms over themselves before laying his right ear on them allowing him to face the window watching as the rain continued its wet assault and a bird in flight.
Before long–a few second– he fell into a deep sleep.
Weirdly he awoke– something was off though– it was quiet… too quiet so he picked his head up and looked around the class to find… no one not even Iruka, now that he thought about it– there wasn't even any sound– no chirping birds, no rain pelting the ground… nothing.
So he looked out the window– the rain was still there but… it– wasn't moving like it had just… froze, a the bird was also frozen mid flap.
Naruto stood– he had experienced some weird dreams when he seldomly had them but this… this was another level– it felt wrong; not just what was happening but the air… it felt–off.
He didn't know how to describe it– he couldn't– this was so foreign almost a celestial kind of weird.
Naruto made his way through the academy to the streets busy streets of Konoha… or… more accurately… the usual busy streets– there wasn't the slightest hint of life anywhere; besides him and the bird he saw earlier.
Then everything went black– everything disappearing all around him like it was swallowed by a void of pure black.
Then it came– the whisper; not a human one–
Something different.
Something that shouldn't belong to this world.
Something utterly… alien
