Luigi vs. Quinn

Bout 2

Smash Stadium

Smasher's Suite

The suite of hundreds immediately began to clamor, everyone locked in conversation with their neighbors. However, Fox McCloud stood quiet amongst the caterwauling of noise, watching the screen. Luigi and Mario chatted casually, the former grinning wide at something Mario had told him. Meanwhile, Quinn paced angrily around the healing space as Altair meditated, a scene that reminded him too much of Wolf for comfort. A glance in Rosalina's direction saw that she was just as nervous, staring into the middle distance, even paler than usual. Despite her man's stellar performance, Daisy looked just as nervous, compulsively shoveling popcorn into her mouth. A wing clasping his shoulder brought him out of his trance.

"Who ya got Foxie?" Falco asked.

"Quinn's a good kid, probably near the top of the athletic charts but if it weren't for Luigi, I wouldn't be back with…"

He nodded his head in Krystal's direction, at the far back of the room chatting excitedly with Samus and Bayonetta.

Falco shrugged, "Fair enough. Personally, I think Quinn's got it. We'd still be watchin' the first bout if Quinn was a second faster on that dismount. Maybe not even, if he got his hands on the Daybreaker."

"Fair enough," Fox shrugged back.

"You makin' fun of me?"

"We will be immediately heading to the next bout," the voice of Mills Frames boomed from every sound system in the building "The first stage is Fountain of Dreams, but the second is a mystery."

Both competitors were teleported away in an instant, the screen changing from a split screen to a full one, the rules appearing in that signature blocky computerized text.

Stage: Fountain of Dreams/?

Rules: Best of 3, 3-stock, items high

Music: Gourmet Race (Melee)/?

3

Luigi jumped out of a pipe, completely stoic, landing on his feet.

2

Quinn strode out, already in his fighting stance, bouncing eagerly on his feet.

1

The only sound besides the trickling water was Quinn's teeth grinding against each other.

GO!

Luigi stepped off the platform casually, but Quinn cleared the distance with a sprinter's ferocity, hands around Luigi's waist before he could even react.,

"SUPLEX!"

They rocketed into the air together, Luigi's head bouncing off the Fountain so hard that he tumbled to the platform above them. Quinn stood underneath it, growling as he unleashed a flip kick. A sweep kick on the platform ensured the two's respective boots bounced off of each other with a mighty metallic clang. A second flip kick to a flummoxed Luigi connected.

"That's youth versus experience for you right there!" 9-Volt chided.

Cranky only chortled as Luigi responded by leaping off the platform and using his signature three-hit combo.

"Experience though, means you don't quit," said the wise old ape.

Luigi's clubbing blow was met by a flying axe kick, rocketing downward as quickly as he'd been thrown into the air, a fireball from Luigi yielded much the same result. Luigi rolled backward, picking up a Bumper as it clanged onto the Fountain, but Quinn's hand was around Luigi's throat before he could react. A follow-up punch meant that Luigi dropped the pinball piece.

"Woah!" 9-Volt yelped as Quinn tossed the Bumper near the left corner of the Fountain's inner well, "Quinn's like the dog that shares his surname in this one."

With a feral scream, Quinn charged, punching Luigi into the air, and leaping himself to follow up, only to bang his head on the bumper. While Luigi safely made it atop the Fountain, Quinn limply fell into the lower Blast Zone.

"Costly mistake right there," narrated Cranky.

Luigi: 3

Quinn: 2

Quinn was off the Revival Platform before anyone could react, charging an exploding kick. Luigi activated his Smash Shield, but the kick tore through it in an instant. Quinn wordlessly fired up another Exploding Kick, the firey thrust kick connecting flush with Luigi's jaw, sending him to the Blast Zone.

Luigi: 2

Quinn: 2

Luigi jumped off the Revival Platform. Just as the two began to circle, the stage glowed a bright white, beginning its transformation.

NEW STAGE: Bridge of Eldin

Music: Overworld Theme (Legend of Zelda) (Brawl)

Once again, the two charged, windmilling punches at each other, wide swings eventually transforming into the interlocked, short punches that were most often seen in hockey fights.

"Look at 'em go!" cheered 9-Volt and Cranky.

A quick fireball allowed Luigi to break from the lock, using his signature flailing punch attack on a stunned Quinn. Despite being stunned, Quinn parried a Green Missile, grabbing Luigi and launching him with an uppercut. Luigi landed stomach first on the stone bridge, the wind knocked out of him as he scrambled to his knees. Quinn unleashed a kick, the thudding impact heard even without the presence of a nearby microphone.

"I love you, Daisy," groaned Luigi, his teeth gritted.

Flummoxed, Quinn launched a similarly heavy kick to Luigi's chest.

"I love you, Daisy," said the man in green, louder.

Another kick.

"I LOVE YOU DAISY!" roared Luigi.

The screen briefly split to a view of the Smasher's Box, where Daisy pounded on the glass.

"I LOVE YOU TOO BABY, YEAH!" she screamed, tears flowing down already red, puffy cheeks.

Luigi stood, launching a Green Missile that was all too easily telegraphed, Quinn jumping over it with ease. Luigi rocketed right into a Death Scythe, picking it up and charging back into the fray. Once again, Luigi's swings were all too easily foreseen, Quinn shuffling around the wild swings.

"He's been training with the Apple of Eden," 9-Volt realized, as Luigi fruitlessly swung at Quinn.

"How do you know that?" balked Cranky.

9-Volt scoffed, "Because I've played Assassin's Creed."

"I don't play pretentious ass games like that and you know it whipper snapper!"

"Will you be serious?" 9-Volt demanded, his geriatric co-commentator only laughed at him.

Back on the Bridge of Elden, Quinn slammed the stone with an angry fist.

"Enough," he shouted, "SUPLEX!"

Despite being driven into the bridge, Luigi refused to give up the Death Scythe, popping to his feet, but staggering as he did. His perpetual grin widening, Quinn jogged backward to grab an Assist Trophy that spawned on the westernmost point of the Bridge, opening it to reveal a Klaptrap. Quinn and his reptilian companion charged to the fray again. The Death Scythe tore into Quinn as Luigi swung it, but that left him open to the Klaptrap, who jumped into the air and began to gnaw on Luigi's head.

"I've been there before," Cranky winced, "Not good."

Luigi flailed, tripping over a box that fell, falling head over heels backward All it took was for Quinn to nudge the wheeled box for it to crash into Luigi and send him to the Blast Zone!

Luigi: 1

Quinn: 2

Quinn jumped to the point where the bridge met the void of the Blast Zone, briefly examining the box that hadn't quite melted into the void. But, before he could have another thought, Luigi kicked the box into him, sending both Mii and the box into the Blast Zone.

Luigi: 1

Quinn: 1

Again, Quinn and Luigi charged, finding themselves in the same flailing hockey fight-esque assault they had minutes earlier. Luigi turned Quinn around, pushing him nearer to the Blast Zone as he punched. Quinn broke the hold, shaking his head disapprovingly at Luigi. Again, Luigi squatted, charging a Green Missile. Quinn extended his arm, hoping a lariat would break the telegraphed tackle. Luigi spiraled through the air, and...

SNAP!

"FUCK!"

Everything in his arm exploded. He couldn't look at it, he knew his arm hung there like meat on a hook. He had to keep fighting.

Quinn launched a haymaker with his good arm. Luigi ducked it, and the proud Mii Fighter fell, now primed for the Blast Zone. Quinn stood, only to see another Green Missile launched at him.

Into the Blast Zone, he went, it was over.

GAME! LUIGI WINS!

Healing Room A

Quinn could only watch from the healing room as his arm reset. Luigi lay on the Bridge of Eldin, a Sarasalandian anthem playing as it heralded Luigi's victory.

"WE HAVE OUR FINALS!" bellowed 9-Volt, "IT WILL BE LUIGI VERSUS SEPHIROTH!"

Quinn fumbled his communicator, dialing Mario.

"Hey, boss?"

Mario smiled warmly at him, "What's up kid?"

"Can you keep him there, I wanna wish him well."

"Sure!"

His healing done, Quinn disappeared again.

Luigi had just gotten to as Quinn appeared again. He held out a hand, The Mii held out a hand, the plumber taking it without hesitation.

"You'd better," Quinn seethed, "Kick. His. Ass."

"Luigi laughed, "You bet you..."

The opening bell of Those Chosen by the Planet rang out, and Sephiroth stood in Quinn's place.

"Enjoy this," Sephiroth sneered, "While you can."

Sephiroth squeezed Luigi's hand. His bones creaked under the pressure, Luigi eventually taking a knee from the pain.

"Because when I defeat you," Sephiroth hissed, "Sarasaland will follow me, not you. And as for your woman…I will make her the whore she was always meant to-"

An electrified uppercut put an end to Sephiroth's monologue, the One-Winged Angel knocking into the air, then firmly onto his ass. Just as Luigi began to assess how many punches he could land on the prone Sephiroth, Mario teleported between them.

"Enough," he snapped, "There will be seven days more in Smash City, six days, and then the final match. The rules will be best of 5 matches, five stocks, aboard each version of Final Destination. This will be the hardest test of either of your careers, and I suggest-a you prepare adequately. I also suggest you remember that we are Smash Brothers. With that said, Smash Stadium, I wish you goodnight.

With that, all three were teleported away from the Bridge of Eldin.
