A New Dawn for Sunset Ch. 04

As soon as Sunset walked through the school doors, loud chatter quieted down, allowing the halls to be filled with whispering. She doesn't need the power to read minds to know what they're talking about.

She tried keeping her head down but that didn't stop certain rough students pushing her down. "Ow!" the yellow teen rubs her butt before looking up at a white-haired girl in a brown hoodie. "What was that for, Gilda?"

"Like you don't know!" the bully spat at her. "Because of that post, my parents grounded me for a month!"

"Look! I'll tell you just as I've been telling everyone else! I am not Anon-A-Miss!" Sunset is then lifted off the ground by her shirt and closes her eyes once noticing that Gilda was pulling back her arm for a punch.

"Drop her!" a familiar voice calls out and Sunset turns to see Rainbow Dash standing there with hands on her hips and stepping out from behind her is none other than Applejack.

"No one deserves a beatin'. Not even her," the Stetson wearing girl turns to glare at her former friend, causing Sunset to glance away.

Gilda scowls before dropping the former Rainboom. "Next time, She-Demon!" and then took off.

Sunset watches as the white-haired girl departs down the hallway. She then stands to dust herself off before turning to her former friends. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it," the athlete turns around. "Ever."

The cowgirl looks at Sunset with a brief moment of sympathy before lowering her hat and following the prismatic haired girl.

With a heavy sigh, Sunset continued to her first class and took a seat in the back. The flame-haired girl briefly looks up to notice her former friends. None of which barely gave her a glance.

The bell rings, signaling the start of class and Mr. Cranky Doodle walks in. "All right, all right!" he calls out as he holds up a slip of paper. "I know that you're all eager for me to start but before we do," he holds up the paper. "Sunset Shimmer! You're wanted in Principal Celestia's office."

Many of the students let out a series of oohs just knowing that Anon-A-Miss is finally getting what's coming to her.

"Quiet down!" the teacher shouts as the former Equestrian walks up to the front and accepts the slip.

Just as she was about to walk out the door, a crumbled piece of paper hit her in the head.

"That's it!" Cranky glares at his students. "I will not tolerate any sort of misbehavior in my class! You just earned yourself detention!"

.oOo.

Sunset wasn't expecting to meet the Principal in front of her office.

"Principal Celestia. If this is about the posts, I swear—" before the former unicorn could continue, a hand is calmly placed on her shoulder.

"This is not about Anon-A-Miss," the pale woman smiles at her student.

"It's not?"

"No," Celestia shakes her head. "Despite how it may appear, we as teachers are trying to get to the bottom of this mess and doing our best to keep things from getting more out of hand than they already are," the woman lets out a tiring sigh, showing that everything is getting to her.

"Thank you, Principal Celestia," Sunset smiles up at her. "You have no idea how much I needed to hear that someone believes in me."

"You're most welcome, Sunset," the woman then regains her professional composure. "Now, to why I called you here. We have a potential new student enrolling next semester and wishes for a tour beforehand."

The former Rainboom raises a brow. "But aren't we passed the window for enrollments? I thought that after letting the Princess and then the Sirens attend without question, you and Vice-Principal Luna made new guidelines about signing up new students."

Celestia nods. "We did, but this one is a special case. And don't worry. We checked, there's no pony ears nor were we hypnotized," she smirks at her student who is trying not to laugh. "They wish to keep who her family is under wraps but is willing to make an exception for you. They're from a prominent and wealthy family and have been estranged from the public for a while. I was honestly surprised when they requested to attend our school. I hate to admit it; Crystal Prep would be more up to their standards. But this new student insists that on attending Canterlot High. So much so that they were generous with their donations for our arts program."

Hearing that, Sunset gives a knowing smirk while crossing her arms. "Are you telling me you let some rich kid bribe their way into the school?"

The Principal hesitantly looks away with a bead of sweat dripping from her forehead. "Not in so many words," she then clears her throat. "This potential student has also expressed interest in you giving them the tour personally."

"Huh? But why me?"

"Apparently, the two of you are well acquainted," the pale woman smiles as she opens the door and is met by the sight of Vice-Principal Luna accepting the last of the signed documents along with a familiar blue woman and a silver girl sitting across from her.

"And with that your enrollment is completed, Ms. Dawn Legacy," the dark blue woman starts filing the papers.

Sunset lets out. "Dawn?"

The silver girl turns around. "Sunset!" she grabs her patchworked crutch so that she can hobble over to the flame-haired girl. "It's great to see you again!" and hugs the yellow teen.

Sunset blinks before letting a smile creep onto her face and returns the embrace. "It's great seeing you to, Dawn. But what are you doing here?"

Dawn looks away. "Well, I haven't really been to school since my accident and Mayberry has been pushing be to start again."

The blue woman crosses her arms. "I meant for you to attend Crystal Prep. A highly recommended private school that lives up to your family name. Not some public school," Mayberry's eyes widen as she turns to the Principal and Vice-Principal. "No offence."

Celestia smiles, "None taken." While Luna crosses her arms, obviously taken some offence. "I'm surprised myself. But I have an open-door policy for anyone willing to learn."

A knowing smirk appears on Dawn's face as she eyes Sunset. "I noticed." She then turns to the adults. "In truth. I will admit that you have a point about Crystal Prep. However, I don't know anyone there. But here?" the silver girl faces Sunset. "I at least know you and where I know that I won't be in the same classes as you, I feel comfortable knowing that you'd only be a few rooms down if I need you."

That made Sunset smile even brighter. "Thanks, Dawn. That means a lot to me."

Celestia smiles at the display. She then takes out some slips of paper and hands them over to the silver girl. "Just hand these to the teachers. This gives you permission to sit in on any classes with Sunset Shimmer. I look forward to you officially joining us next semester."

"Thank you, Principal Celestia," Dawn nods.

"As for Ms. Mayberry. She can remain her if she wants. I just worry about how other students will feel about a stranger wandering the school. They might feel as if they're being watched."

"I do not plan on lingering for long," Mayberry nods, understanding their feelings. "I merely wanted to ensure that everything is settled. I shall be off," she then turns to the younger girl. "Take care, Ms. Dawn."

"I will, Mayberry," Dawn shakes her head and then turns to Sunset with a smile. "Shall we get to class, Sunset?"
