"Ryo?"
"Yes, Bikky?" Ryo looked up from the newspaper, spread across the kitchen table, as Bikky stood in the doorway, shuffling his feet awkwardly. "What is it?"
"There's this new computer game that's just come out; Robbie's already got it and it's awesome. I'd really like to get it too, but I just counted up the money in my piggybank, and I don't have enough, I need another twenty-five dollars. I was wondering if I could maybe get an advance on my allowance?"
"Hm…" Ryo put on a thoughtful expression. "Well…" he said slowly, "I suppose that might be possible, but then you wouldn't get any allowance for a few weeks, so you wouldn't be able to buy anything else, especially since you'll have already spent all your savings on this new game."
Bikky frowned, knowing that was true, and he couldn't keep asking for an advance on his allowance every week. "I hadn't thought of that."
"How about instead of an advance, you do some extra chores to earn the money you need for this game? Then you could still have your allowance as usual every week."
Chores for money; that would be a bit like having a job. "What d'you need me to do?"
"Well, you could start by washing the breakfast dishes, since it's Saturday and you don't have school. After that, my car could do with a wash as well, and then I could use a hand with changing the sheets on the beds and doing the laundry."
That seemed like an awful lot of work, but twenty-five dollars was a lot of money, more than he'd already saved, and at least this way he'd still get his allowance. Bikky made up his mind.
"Okay, I can do that." He'd do anything to get that game!
