8. Gotham Middle School.
He was back. Parked on the right side of the street in his black 30s car outside of 'GOTHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL' , he looked out the driver window as the school ended with a blaring bell, watching the children-ages 10 to 12, rush out of the school building through it's double-doors to board the buses in the parking-lot to go home for the day, as school was now over. Many of them had on backpacks while few others had on messenger-bags.
After a while, Tommy came out of the building-with his backpack on. Tommy was one of the very few 9-year olds attending middle school, as he had graduated from 'GOTHAM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL' on the Chicago side of the city last year, since his birthday was on November 8th. For him, that was a good thing because it meant he got to get presents on his birthday and the next month on Christmas.
Tommy then spotted the back of 10-year old Lucy Walker walking up ahead-the back of her blond hair stopping at her upper-back, with her pink messenger-bag around her right shoulder.
"Hey, Lucy, wait up!" Tommy said before he ran towards her right side and walking with her, her eyes being blue and the front of her hair going past her shoulders. "What's up, Lucy?"
"Are you following me?" Lucy asked, not looking at Tommy as they both walked together.
"Why would i be following you?" Tommy asked.
"Cause you're weird, that's why." Lucy said before she walked off ahead of Tommy.
"Hey, wait!" Tommy said as he ran after Lucy, catching up with her and walking by her right side again. "You wanna go Trick-or-Treating with me and Lacey tonight?"
"Thanks, but i'll pass. I've got better things to do than watch the two of you go door to door, asking for candy." Lucy said.
"What? You don't like Trick-or-Treating? I can't think of anything better to do this day of the month than Trick-or-Treating. So what are you gonna dress up as tonight?" Tommy said.
"What?" Lucy asked, confused.
"WHATCHA GONNA BE FOR HALLOWEEN?" Tommy asked, his eyes wide.
"Harley Quinn, so you better be careful, 'cause i can spray you with The Joker's laughing gas or shoot you with one of his guns or something." Lucy joked. Most of the kids like to dress up as the villains of Gotham for Halloween, herself being one of them.
"You're not the real Harley." Tommy said. "I'm gonna be a Power Ranger. My Dad bought me a cool Blue Ranger costume yesterday. You gonna watcha the Goosebumps marathon tonight? Cause i am."
"That's wondeful." Lucy said, fake smiling as she stopped and turned to face Tommy, who'd also stopped. "Um...see ya." She said before turning forward and resuming walking off, heading for one of the buses.
Tommy watched as Lucy walked away from him, leaving him alone. "Your loss." He said. Girls. Who could figure them out? Tommy and Lucy had met each other in the first grade of elementary school in 1996 when they were both 6 years old, for her birthday was June 7th. Yet somehow he still hadn't been able to figure her out. They weren't enemies, but they weren't exactly friends either. He really didn't know what they were at this point.
"Hey, Tommy!" Came a little boy's voice from behind, followed by 11-year old James "Jim" Gordon Jr., Commissioner James Gordon's son, running up to his right side, with his black backpack on, his hair blond and his eyes green, with freckles on his face. He wore a brown short sleeve shirt with a button-up collar with the first two buttons un-buttoned, blue pants and black and white sneakers with white laces and black trims.
"Hi, Jim." Tommy said, not looking at the Gordon boy. Like Lucy, he and Jim had known each other since elementary school. The only difference was they had met in second grade in 1997 when Jim was 7 and were really close friends.
"What were you and Lucy talking about just now?" Jim asked.
"Just Halloween stuff." Tommy answered.
"Should've known." Jim said, rolling his eyes.
"Come on. Let's go before we miss our bus." Tommy said before he ran off.
"I'm right behind ya." Jim said before following after Tommy.
From his car, he watched as the two boys, Tommy and Jim, boarded one of the buses, followed by the bus starting, back up and then driving out of the school parking-lot into the street, taking all the children home. He then started his car, turned around and drove off...following the school bus.
