Trying to write something other than my tragic life right now.
The next morning Kim woke feeling a bit groggy. She was trying to remember why she felt so terrible. As she laid there thinking to the day before she remembered the panic attacks. One in the hallway and one in her new bedroom. Adam had taken care of her. Why did she remember Will being there? She rolled over in Adams arms seeing him awake just watching her. "Morning. How are you feeling?" He whispered kissing her forehead. "Groggy. Confused a bit." Kim shook her head a bit. "Well thats probably because you were given a milligram of Xanax last night. To help you sleep after your panic attacks yesterday." Adam explained watching her process the information. "Is that why I remember Will last night?" Kim asked still confused some. "Yes. Jay called him so that you could rest all night. I hope that was okay." Adam had no idea how she would feel about that. "Its fine. I understand. I probably asked for it." Kim thought back to the night before. "Well Jay asked if you wanted meds from Will. You did agree to them." Adam explained watching her.
"Whats happening today?" Kim asked still snuggled in his arms. "Well everyone is going to move all your things in to your new place. While you and I go shopping for spa day supplies for Izzy. Plus lots of relaxing today. No stress today." Adam kissed her lips softly. "Thank you for figuring this all out. The last two days have been a lot. Extremely overwhelming. Its been crazy." Kim snuggled closer her lips resting on his neck. "I completely understand that. And your reactions were understandable. Too many new things at once. Too many horrible things coming around at once. Some that should have never been an issue in the first place. So today we start again rebuilding you back up. Its going to be great." Adam kissed her head not moving her. "Sounds good baby. I would like to get up to pee though." She giggled a bit. "Well get up and go then." Adam laughed letting her run to the bathroom.
Adam was up and moving as Kim returned. "Heading out to walk Ranger. You can join or just rest. Its up to you." Adam kissed her letting her decide what she wanted to do. "I think fresh air sounds nice. So yeah give me a minute." Kim dressed quickly so they could head outside. Ranger was thrilled to be outside he loved being outside. They walked him around the block letting him potty as they walked. "Ready to head back?" Adam was watching her looking tired still. "Sure. I definitely need some breakfast." Kim smiled a bit as they started to walk back. "Well then thats what we will do then." Adam wrapped his arm around her walking them back to his place. "Looks like the team has started moving you in already." Adam pointed towards their cars. "We should order them some breakfast too. Its the least I can do." Kim felt bad but it wasnt her fault. "They would love that." Adam smiled sweetly looking at Kim. "And coffee!" Kim laughed.
"Definitely! We could use some too." Adam smirked needing coffee himself. He had a restless night of sleep. "Im sorry if you lost sleep last night. It was not my intention. I have just been so overwhelmed the last few days. It caught up to me." Kim offered as they rode in the elevator. "No worries about that. Its all good. You are allowed to be overwhelmed right now. Its okay." Adam kissed her as they stepped off the elevator. "I just want the normalcy back. The flow, work, life, balance, just fun times. This life just needs to keep getting better, not keep going backwards. Yesterday felt like going backwards." Kim sighed as they enteted Adam apartment again. "I hear ya. And it probably was. But today we move forward again. You got this. I promise you." He let Ranger loose then picked Kim up placing her on the counter top. He moved between her legs wrapping his arms around her body kissing her long and slow. Kim wrapped her arms and legs as they started making out.
"Feeling any better now?" He asked watching her breathing heavy, skin flushed. "Maybe? Im still not positive." She smirked toying with him. "Huh. See thats very interesting. Because your mouth says one thing and your body says something completely different. But since you seem unconvinced how about I try again." Adam smirked going in to kiss her again. This time allowing his hands to roam under her shirt. His left hand hold her in place as his right hand roamed the front of her body. He could feel her body shuddering against his. "Still not sure?" Adam whispered kissing her neck and under her chin. "You could always up the ante here if you want something you arent getting." He teased her, goading her to see what she would do. She put her feet in his shorts pockets pulling them down to his surprise. "So thats how its going to be today? Okay." Adam scooped her up taking her right to the bedroom. It would be better for her body that way.
He dropped her on the bed watching her bounce a bit. "Is this what you wanted?" Adam smirked stripping himself of his clothes. "Maybe?" Kim laughed throwing her shirt at him. "Well I may need some direction here since this was your plan all along." He watched her laughing a bit. "It wasnt really my plan until you started to kiss me in the kitchen. Its nice feeling something other frustration and sadness." Kim bit her lower lip looking up at his dark eyes. "Well then you need to lose the rest of those clothes and quick." He winked ripping her shorts and panties off. Kim gasped but laughed at the same time. "Tell me what you like as I go. I want to hear it." Adam asked as he started kissing her neck. "Dirty talk? Or just that Im enjoying what you are doing to me?" Kim asked moving her head for better access. "No dirty talk today." He moved to her pulse point nipping loving the mewing sound she was making. "Yes those little noises. Love them." He kissed further down her chest kissing between her breasts.
He moved his left hand to play with her left breast as his mouth started lickiing, kissing, nipping her right breast. Kim arching her back loving the feeling. Adam pushed her back down gently not wanting her to get hurt. "So crazy good baby!" Kim moaned grabbing his biceps holding tight. He switched breasts causing Kim to groan somewhat loudly. Adam smirked with his lips still on her skin moving lower licking her abdomen all over. He kissed her belly button before moving even lower. "This okay?" He asked looking up to see her eyes closed, smiling brightly, moaning in pleasure. "God yes!" Kim bucked her hips giving herself over to him. "Good thats how it should work." His fingers opening her inner lips licking her entire womanhood. Kim groaned loving the feeling. "Better grab on to something." Adam laughed as he started to flick her clit over and over. Kim moaning his name being driven crazy. Adam upped the ante again thrusting his tongue inside her. Kim squealed at the feeling. He was thrilled and couldnt get enough of her taste.
He kept thrusting his tongue with his thumb on her clit keeping pressure on it as Kim started to shudder. Kim screamed his name as she came. Adam kept thrusting till Kims body flopped back on the bed. He licked her clean then moved to rest next to her. Her body still trembling, her eyes still closed, her breathing ragged, skin flushed pink. "Was that your plan?" Adam asked smirking at her. "Not my plan but I will crave that now. Crave being taken care of." Kim rolled over placing her hand on his belly stroking her fingers over his skin. "Kim baby thats how it should be. Yesterday was hell so today you get a stress relief. You get taken care of. And since you ex wasnt a real man, I get to show you what a real man does for the woman he cares about." He kissed her softly loving how relax her body was against his. Soft and warm, naked wrapped around him. "What about you?" Kim asked looking deep into his eyes. "Not worried about me. Right now you are all Im worried about. And since you were hungry earlier lets get some breakfast going. Then we can move forward. So I will meet you in the kitchen." He kissed her softly helping her get up and move to the bathroom.
Adam dressed moving to the kitchen to start breakfast. He was starving and he knew Kim was too. When she returned Kim saw him cooking in just his boxers and shorts. "Hey. Thank you for starting breakfast." Kim wrapped her arms around his body. Her lips kissing his back. "You are so very welcome." Adam smiled brightly. "This is such a great connection. This is what I was missing." Adam whispered softly but Kim heard every word. "Agree. This is what I always wanted in a relationship. It feels amazing." Kim moved to sit watching him work. "Everyday I feel like its possible to move forward fully. Like I can let go of the past with him. I feel stronger today. I think you make me feel stronger, more alive." Kim saw his eyes turning to her. "Well I could say the same to you. Its been nice getting a taste of a real relationship. Having someone who gets me, gets the trauma I have dealt with, gets where I want to go from here. But mostly you dont judge me for staying an officer. For putting my daughter first." Adam leaned over to kiss her lips.
"Your daughter should always be first. And I would never judge you for that. The relationship between you two is beautiful. I wish I had that relationship with my father, my mother. I promise I will never come between you and your daughter. At some point I would love to meet her and join this lovely life. But I will never rush that. Im just happy to be a part of this life at all." Kim urged hoping he believed her. "Thank you. I really have no idea when that will happen but I appreciate you not rushing it. I need to figure out how to make her happy all the time again before I can think about you meeting her. Im worried that maybe life with Wendy isnt healthy for her. I dont think shes harming Izzy physically but mentally I think something is going on. I dont know if that makes sense or not. But Im really worried about Izzy." Adam plated breakfast as he spoke. "Makes sense. Even just being emotionally unavailable or more distracted could cause an issue for Izzy. Shes 4, they don't understand all the changes we go through as life changes. Look I dont know Wendy but maybe shes just over stressed with work, her mom, Izzy, the apartment which she apparently cant afford. What settlement did you make with her? If I can ask that." Kim asked concerned.
"Thats not a problem to ask. You can ask anything, always. But since we split custody 50% she gets nothing from me for alimony or child support. Same for me. Honestly my bills are higher than hers but Im doing just fine. So I really dont get how shes struggling." Adam shook his head thinking as he ate. "I send her photos of Izzy when she stays here. You loves playing dress up so I take photos for Wendy to see. She never does that for me. I sent videos from the aquarium but she doesnt do that for me. Its like she's punishing me for doing me job. I really hope therapy can fix this all." Adam sighed a bit as they continued to eat. "Hey I understand all that. Sounds like a solid plan you worked out with her. Maybe she feels slighted by that. But again she asked for the divorce so she shouldnt get alimony. That makes sense to me. You are doing great." Kim assured him. "Thank you. Im just trying to the best thing for Izzy. Shes so happy and bubbly with me. And crying with her. I just dont get it." Adam sighed leaning back in his chair.
"Hey we will figure it out together. Even if Im only on the sidelines we will figure this out together. Soon she will be happy all the time again. Just a setback for her." Kim got up moving over to hug him tight. "I never wanted to get divorced. Im happy it happened since Im so much happier with out Wendy but that wasnt my plan. I didnt want to be like my parents. I wanted better for Izzy, still do. I thought getting married was the right thing but clearly it wasnt. I really feel like Wendy is punishing me. I think we need to talk about that in therapy. I need to make sure shes coming home this week. Maybe subconsciously Im afraid she wont come home. She kept Izzy from me before, whats to say it won't happen again." Adam sighed realizing he said his deepest fear aloud. "I promise that wont happen! We will all fight that! You have a court order in place. We can fight it together." Kim hugged him tight.
"Thank you! I really appreciate it so much." He kissed the side of her head. "Why dont you go take a shower. I will clean up the kitchen. Then Im gonna walk Ranger. Just try to get out if your own head for a bit." Kim kissed him sweetly heading to the kitchen. "Sounds good." Adam got heading for the bathroom. Adam jumped in the shower trying to relax some. Kim cleaned up the kitchen then took Ranger for another walk. It was nice being outside letting him play. When they returned Adam was getting dressed for the day. "Are you feeling better?" Kim asked letting Ranger loose again. "Somewhat. I feel clean at least. While you shower Im gonna check on your place. Hopefully you and I dont have to do to much tonight other than relax. And get used to your new place. We can try sleeping there tonight. See how it goes." Adam watched her undressing and getting in the shower. "Sounds good babe!" Kim entered the shower leaving Adam alone.
"Buddy hang out with mom. Im going to be back shortly." Adam headed to Kims new apartment. He knew the team was there working away. He found them unpacking boxes. "Morning guys!" Adam closed the door behind him. "Morning. Hows Kim this morning?" Jay asked knowing how it worked. "She woke confused, groggy. But once she woke a bit more shes been fine. Shes in the shower right now." Adam shrugged a bit unsure what they expected to happen. "Thats common with that dosage and her weight. But she probably slept solidly through the night right?" Jay asked pretty certain. "Oh yeah she was out cold pretty quick. I was almost surprised when she woke and it was before 9." Adam explained. "Sounds like she slept well. Hows the body pain today?" Erin asked having lived through Jays night terrors and panic attacks. "Seemed fine. She wasn't complaining about that. After she woke up more she was happy, flirty, she ate breakfast, walked Ranger while I showered. She seems to have moved past it a bit." Adam knew it could change on a dime but right now she was good.
"Sounds good. How does her place look?" Jay showed Adam around. "Sparse but given what she has it looks great. Maybe I can get her to shop for decorations today. I think that might help. But it looks great! Thank you guys!" Adam hugged his friends excited Kims place was almost done. "Not a problem. Kim needs all the help she could get right now. And preventing another panic attack is the right thing to do. Shes strong but this is all too much right now. Moving is hard enough then add in the crap with Roman and his new girlfriend. That just makes it much worse. Monday we should all prepare for the worst." Kevin added as he broke down the boxes. "Lord I know. Kim is freaking out that any time she disagrees with Upton it will be because of Roman in Uptons mind. Which is possible. So I get her concerns completely. Only time will tell how it goes." Adam looked back hearing the door open. "Hey what are you doing here?" He asked seeing Kim and Ranger. "Well it is my apartment." Kim laughed as ahe moved further inside.
"You are right. I just didnt think you would come over just yet. I figured you would want back up coming in here." Adam was surprised but also on edge hoping he didn't overstep. "This looks amazing! Thank you so much!" Kim hugged everyone shocked by the work they did. "You are so welcome! Happy to help you Sergeant." Mouse was thrilled he could help her. "Oh lord! This Sergeant bullshit again!" Kim laughed pushing him a bit. "Old habit. Sorry!" He shrugged. "Its all good. Just wanted to check the progress since you had been gone a bit. You promised Izzy that you would shop for spa day items today." Kim smiled happily. "Oh I know. Plus we also need to look for some extra pieces for your place and maybe decorations. Make it feel more homey?" Adam watched her light up a bit. "Yes! And extra stuff for Ranger. He would love some extra toys and beds. So lets hit HomeGoods for that. They have some nice stuff that is inexpensive. And they have lots of options for dogs too." Kim shrugged a bit. "Sounds great! Anything to see you smile like that." Adam hugged her tight happy she rebounded from the day before.
"Well take an inventory of whats here so we know what to shop for." Adam let her go watching her run off looking around the apartment. "Much better today. Whatever you did just keep doing it. That is remarkable." Jay was shocked seeing Kim happy and doing well. "I didnt do much. Just listened to her fears, her worries, her needs and I made her feel heard. Thats really all she needed. Just someone who hears her. Shes amazing under the insecurities. Letting her be her allows her to shine." Adam smiled watching her looking through the kitchen. "Sounds about right. Feeling like you need to be someone your not is draining. Her being able to be try to herself has got to be freeing. She was always fun in our down time. And she always made cakes for our birthdays over there. Shes one of a kind but very much like my sister." Jay warned as they laughed. "I hear ya. Thats why I ask a lot of questions about her life, the things she likes, things she wants to do. Allows her to open up, show her true self. I love that she is girly but tough. That she is happy just sitting on the couch watching a documentary. That she is happy just being in the park with Ranger. And shes not afraid to tease me. She perfectly happy picking on me, trying to get a rise out of me. Its fun. I enjoy it. Enjoy her." He saw she was typing in her phone as they spoke.
"If you dont already have them, get some decks of cards. Shes good at Gin. She kicked our asses all the time." Mouse laughed remembering the long nights playing cards. "Im good with that. I do enjoy the documentaries most of the time but Im willing to see if I can beat her at cards. Its a good challenge." They turned hearing her scoff. "Yeah right! Never gonna beat the master!" She laughed poking Adams sides. "Oh we will see about that! Game on!" He grabbed her tickling her body till she was almost crying from laughter. "Alright lets go! Wheres Ranger?" Adam asked looking around. "Check the bedroom. I saw him enter there." Kevin hadnt seen him since then. "Alright lets look." Kim walked back laughing. "Um I think he is comfortable here." Kim showed them Ranger sprawled out on the bed asleep, snoring. "Lets at least bring his food and water over before we head out for a bit. Just in case he gets hungry or thirsty." Adam couldnt help but smile. "Sounds perfect." Kim laughed but was thrilled Ranger was happy in their new home. "We are heading out. You got it from here. See you monday for your big day!" Jay hugged her as they all started to head out. "Thank you eveyone really!" Kim loved this group of people she fell in line with.
The full group headed to the elevator some leaving, some going to Adams place. Once Ranger had all his needs met the couple headed out to shop for Kims place. She needed a few essentials but she also needed things to furnish her apartment. Things to fill in the gaps. When they arrived Kim headed inside while Adam happily got a cart. He just knew it was needed. "Rangers stuff first then the rest." Kim headed to the pet area finding lots of dog beds. "Wow! I know 40 is a lot for a dog bed but for this size bed thats not bad. This is smart and lots of nice options." Adam helped Kim pick out beds that would look nice but hold up well. "Thats why I wanted to come here. Its almost half the price of Target." Kim shrugged a bit. "And we can get most of what we need here. So its the perfect shop." Kim grabbed a few toys and nicer bowls." She then moved to the kitchen wares. She grabbed several things she needed for the kitchen then headed for decorations for her new apartment. The cart was getting full but Kim needed things so this had to be done.
"Am I grabbing a second cart?" Adam asked getting concerned for the number of items in the cart. "Um I dont know yet. Depends on if we find furniture or not. Some lamps maybe?" Kim smirked as they continued walking the store. "We can always come back tomorrow." Aam offered a compromise. "We shall see." Kim winked as she looked around more." Adam groaned though he was happy to help her. "Are you bored yet?" She asked looking at different pieces. "Not really, more amused than anything. Watching you excited for shopping is amusing. I dread it." He hugged her a bit as she looked around. "Well I think Im excited since its for my new place. It feels good today." She shrugged adding a few lamps to the cart. "I think you need end tables and maybe one of those big electric fireplaces to put under the tv. I think that would really bring it all together." Adam added thinking how empty the room looked. "I like that idea. Something to look for. Maybe online?" Kim wasnt sure. "Online would be easiest and probably quickest." Adam pulled out his phone to start shopping for her. "I think Im done here. Lets check out." Kim started to walk towards the check out lanes.
They checked out almost 300 later. Kim was surprised but it was okay with all she got. They loaded the car then headed to target to get all the spa day items for Izzy. They arrived heading inside with another shopping cart. Adam really didnt need a ton but he was conditioned to grab a cart always when at Target. "Okay let me call Izzy and see what she wants. I would hate to get the wrong color or the wrong animal face mask." Adam shuddered knowing the drama that could come from that. "Of course you should. I promise to be quiet while you talk to her. But definitely call her." Kim assured him as he started to call Izzy. "Hey Wendy! How are you doing? Hows your mom?" Adam asked right away. "Mom is getting better. She is being transferred out of the ICU, so thats good. Im exhausted. Between my mom being sick and Elizabeth acting out Im exhausted." Wendy ranted. "What do you mean Izzy js acting out? How?" He was alarmed so was Kim.
"She wont go to bed on time. She is sassing back. Wont do her school work. Complains about everything. She has been like this for awhile now but this week has been worse." Wendy was angry. "Im sorry shes been acting out for you. I have not experienced that at all. Do you want me to come get her? I dont mind at all if it makes it easier on you." Adam offered unsure what to do. "Im not ready to leave here. My mom needs me." Wendy stated. "Thats why Im offering to drive up and get her. Tell me what I can do to make this better for you both?" He asked frustrated by the situation. "I don't know. She needs help! Shes a bad kid anymore." Wendy complained. "Look I dont think shes a bad kid. I think she is unhappy. I think shes not being heard. Look I dont want to have this conversation over the phone. But she needs to come home to me before you both lose your cool. Send me the address Im not taking no for an answer. Im heading home and then coming to you. Text me the address." Adam hung up looking at Kim worried as hell.
"Hey I get it. Just take me home so you can roll. I understand completely. I promise I will call Jay and Erin if I need help." Kim assured him. "No you are coming with me. I need you to help me stay calm. And I want you in my life. I need you in my life. I would have preferred waiting for you to meet her but something is very off with my daughter. And I need a woman I trust to help me talk to her. So lets drop off your bags, get Ranger then head out." Adam was spinning and Kim centered him so he needed her to hold him strong as he drove home. "Okay. Lets go. Only to keep you calm during this. You need it. So lets go!" Kim walked Adam out of the store as soon as they were in the car Kim grabbed Adams hand holding it tight. "God thank you!" Adam held on to her like a life line. "You never have to thank me. We do this together." Kim squeezed his hand. Adam's breathing was ragged as he drove but Kim was keeping him in control. Kim texted Jay letting him know what was happening.
They arrived at the apartments Adam jumped out to help carry all the bags for Kim. She followed behind ready to get Ranger and start moving again. "We should bring Ranger with us. Just in case things go crazy." Kim offered as they arrived at her apartment. "Ranger we got to go. Adams daughter needs help so lets go potty then hit the road." Kim announced as they entered. Ranger running to them. "Thank you buddy!" Adam got him leash as they headed back out the door. He went to the bathroom as soon as they hit the grass area. "Okay so it's like an hour and a half from here. So we can grab food on the way. I just want to get to her as quick as possible." Adam wasnt sure how bad it was but knew it was only a matter of time. "Thats fine. We can order on an app and pick up the food as we go." Kim assured him as they went. "I didnt know it was that bad. I just thought Izzy was sad. I thought Wendy was stressed out. But this is so much worse than I could have imagined. Izzy has never been disrespectful before. Shes always sunshine. She is always happy. What do I do? How do I fix this?" Adam asked more talking to himself. "I really dont know. But we will figure it out. Maybe Izzy just needs you. I dont know." Kim had no idea. She wasnt a mom and didnt have a lot of experience with kids.
"Its just insane to me how shes perfect for me and acting out for her mom. Of course she fights me sometimes, what kid doesnt. But she has never sassed back at me, never defies me. She might fight to sleep longer or snuggle longer but never what Wendy described to me. Should we assume its been bad for a long time?" Adam asked since Kim was a cop too. "Probably. But we will know for sure when we get there. Just try to stay cool. Me being there is going to be a fight enough. Lets just get there." Kim turned on some up beat music as Adam drove. Music was a release for Kim and she hoped it worked for Adam too. They stopped for food as they made their way to the hospital. Adam was on edge for good reason. When they finally arrived the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. "We are here. Lets do this. Just please help me stay calm." Adam watched her nod, smiling timidly. "I got you. We got you. All of us." Kim kissing him softly as they got out of the car. They got Ranger out putting his vest in as the started to head in. They let him potty before they entered heading right to the intended room.
They found the room easy enough unsure of what they would find. Adam was alarmed when he heard arguing coming from the room. He hurried to see Wendy scolding their daughter for not eating her lunch. "Whats going on in here?" Adam asked very upset and confused. "Daddy!" Izzy screamed running into his arms crying. "She wont eat her lunch! She is refusing and talking back! And whos this?" Wendy snapped. "First this is Kim. We were out shopping when I called you. We came right here. Secondly sweetheart why are you not eating your lunch?" Adam asked calmly. "I dont like it. Its everyday." Izzy cried. "Okay my sweet. You know sometimes we have to eat things we dont like but I can understand that eating it everyday would be unfun. "What do you have for lunch today?" Adam unsure what she didnt like anymore. "Its ham. I dont like it." Izzy cried as she was obviously hungry but also stressed out. "How about I get you something different to eat while mommy and daddy talk okay?" Kim offered hoping to calm the situation but also get away from the daggers. "Thank you." Izzy smiled. "No problem. You can play with Ranger okay?" Kim watched Adam smile as she left the room.
"Wendy. Whats going on here? Shes never like this. How did we get here?" Adam was stressed over the situation. "I dont know! You left and I was upset. And I cant afford to live alone with her. So Im stressed all the time over money. How could you leave us!" Wendy cried looking at Adam. "I didnt leave. I was on the job. Saving lives, thats what I do. You were the one who filed for divorce while I was in recovery from a gun shot to my abdomen. You are the one who kept Izzy from me for months till the court forced your hands. As for not affording to live, you should have gotten a cheaper apartment. You were the one who refused to stay in our building. And you make more than me. You have to get this under control. Our daughter is suffering because of it." Adam had Izzy on the floor petting Ranger waiting for Kim to returned. "Im not going to keep her from you but I think you need time to fix yourself. For Izzy. What do you think?" Adam asked watching Wendy the full time.
"You think Im a bad mom? You are punishing me?" Wendy asked angry. "Nope not at all. I think you are over stressed and our daughter is feeding off your emotions. I said it before and I will say it again. You need to get into therapy for yourself. Izzy deserves that, you deserve that." Adam heard Kim coming back into the room. "Okay I got a turkey and cheese sandwich. Some fruit and some pudding for dessert. How is that?" Kim asked unsure. "Thank you! Im hungry!" Izzy lit up. "You are welcome though I think daddy is going to want some of that pudding too." Kim laughed as she set up the food for Izzy. "Thanks Kim. Thats very helpful." Adam hugged her then got Izzy set with her food. "How do you know my daddy?" Izzy asked. "Well I met your daddy through Jay and Erin. I served in the military with Jay and Mouse." Kim explained trying not to say to much. "Did you get a boo boo like Uncle Jay?" She asked shyly. "I did unfortunately. But I got better just like he did and just like your daddy." Kim smiled watching Izzy eat her lunch.
"Im not a bad mom Adam. I can take care of her I just need some help." Wendy interrupted. "What kind of help? You make more than me. Im not sure how much financial help I can give without hurting myself. Thats why we agreed on the arrangement that we did. We agreed it worked and that we were fine financially. So what changed since then?" Adam asked trying to figure this all out. Wendy was fidgeting a bit. "Just tell me. Smoking, drinking, drug, new boyfriend? What has caused this issue." Adam was flat in affect. He just wanted answers. "Well you have a new girlfriend!" Wendy snapped. "We arent offically together. But yes its going there. Now tell me the truth. If you dont I will get the lawyers involved. You know we dont want that." Adam watched her closely. "Fine! I have been drinking more lately to cope with the stress." Wendy admitted almost embarrassed. "Okay so what do you need? And how long has this been going on?" Adam sighed scared for his daughter.
"Since you left." Wendy admitted. "So almost a year. So rehab is what you need? So you can get the help you need. Thats fine. You can on short term disability at work, insurance will pay for most of it. I will take care of Izzy and clean out your home." Adam was very practical about it. "I dont need rehab! Just need less stress!" Wendy agrued. "Im not fighting you on this. You have been drinking for a year! With our daughter! You need to detox safely and get therapy. You need 30 days under your belt. Izzy can talk to you every day but you need to do this for yourself and our daughter. For now Im taking her home. We can talk more when you have calmed down." Adam stood up wiping his hands on his jeans. "Izzy sweetheart. Say bye to mom and grandmom. We are going home." Adam called out. Izzy ran to get her things so they could leave right away. She hated it there. She did her goodbyes and they started to leave. "Text me your decision." Adam left after that. Kim right behind him with Ranger.
"Okay my sweet girl! Lets get you home! Take a nap if you need it." Adam was sure she hadnt napped much since she left him. No one spoke a word as the rode home. Izzy was asleep, Adam was lost in his mind trying to make sense of it. When they arrived home Adam got Izzy out to carry her inside. Kim followed again with Ranger unsure what to do. "Lets just get her settled then I will do a grocery order. Maybe just some game time today?" Adam offered unsure as his mind was still spinning. "That works. Im sure she would love that. Lets just try to relax some." Kim hugged him tight as Izzy ran off to use the bathroom. "Thank you. You have been amazing with all this mess. God thank you." He kissed her softly letting her feel his emotions. "No problem. You were my rock yesterday so Im returning the favor." Kim winked as she moved away from his body. He was driving her crazy but they had a child to take care of.
"Daddy." Izzy stated as she walked back into the room. "Yes my sweet?" Adam watched her looking happy again. "Can we do spa day tomorrow?" She asked batting her eyelashes. "Well I still need to shop for that but yes we can do that. You ready to play the game?" He asked loving her beaming smile. "Yes! Is Kim staying?" Izzy asked softly. "That is up to you. Do you want time with just your daddy?" Kim answered understanding completely. "Yes please. Im sorry." Izzy looked down scared. Kim didnt even let Adam answer. "Its fine. I understand completely. You aren't comfortable with me yet and you miss time with your daddy. Thats okay. I understand. How about tomorrow we all go to the park for a bit after your spa day?" Kim offered. "Yes! Thank you!" Izzy ran over to hug Kim. "You are so welcome! Life has been confusing for you so this makes sense. Enjoy it." Kim hugged the little girl before heading to the door. "Call me later." Kim winked as she left Adams side. "Oh definitely!" He winked back watching them leave.
"Okay game time!" Adam lifted Izzy placing her at the table. "Are you mad?" Izzy asked. "No sweetheart. Im sad that you have been having such a hard time with your mom. And I understand you not being comfortable with Kim yet. Especially meeting her today. I need you to know that I really like Kim so I hope you will too one day." Adam offered as they sat together. "Shes nice. I just only want you right now." Izzy explained. "And Kim understands that too. So no need to be upset or worried. Let's play." Adam kissed her head as they started to play the game. As they played Kim took Ranger to the park to run around a bit. It gave her time to reflect on what had happened during the day. She was surprised with how the day went. Crushed for Adam and for Izzy. Surprised that Izzy hugged her. But also very understanding that Izzy wanted just her dad. But for a first meeting she felt like it went well.
They headed back to the apartment just before dark to order some dinner and figure out what she still needed to order for her living room. And to wash the new pans she got. She had been texting with Jay keeping him in the loop on the situation. She felt like that was the right thing to do as the next few weeks were bound to be crazy for Adam. She returned to working on her apartment realizing she needed a few things for the bathroom she hadnt thought of before. She decided to head out after dinner to get those things plus grocery shop. As her dinner arrived Adam was serving dinner in his home. He had made spaghetti and meatballs for them. Izzy was excited for dinner. "So what does mommy make for dinner?" Adam asked as they started to eat. "Frozen dinners. Says shes too busy to cook." Izzy shrugged eating the home cooked meal her father made for her. "Well hopefully that changes soon. Daddy is going to make sure you have better meals and more support going forward. Daddy promises this will get better my sweet." Adam was broken for her. "Thanks daddy!" Izzy was smiling wide.
As the night continued both Adam and Kim were having a great night. Kim was actually enjoying her apartment. It was really starting to feel like this was home. Adam was right she just needed all of her things not in storage anymore. A place to create new memories in, to create her new life in. Just after 8:30 Adam called Kim wanting to check in on her. "Hey! Hows your day been?" She asked smilimg wide. "Not bad. We played games, had a home cooked dinner which she doesnt have with her mother. She went to bed fine. Im really just to understand how I missed this. And I know I dont see Wendy often due to our custody schedule but still Im a cop. How did I miss this?" That was killing him more than anything. "Well we both know that people who drink like that are really great at hiding it. You didnt cause it. Its not your fault. I dont want to call her a bad mother but shes not great lately." Kim was crushed for them. "I hear ya. Right now shes happy and asleep. Thats the best case scenario considering the day. How was your day? How are you feeling?" He asked curious how she was doing.
"Its been okay. I feel like this is home. The more decorated it gets the better it feels. I ordered some end tables and the fire place fixture so thats helpful. We ran around the park for a while. Im gonna miss our sleepover tonight." She smirked a bit. "Well maybe you can over for a bit now that Izzy is asleep." Adam needed her but wasnt sure they could be intimate with Izzy down the hall just yet. "Sounds good. Give me an hour so we can be sure she's asleep just in case. See you soon!" Kim made a ss noise before hanging up. Adam was thrilled. He cleaned up the kitchen as he waited for her. Kim took a quick shower changing into comfy clothes before she headed over to Adams with Ranger in tow. "Hey!" She smiled as he opened the door. "Hey!" He saw her smiling wide biting her bottom lip. "God come here!" He growled pulling her into his arms kissing her hard. "Ive missed those lips." His eyes said everything. "Not with your daughter here. Not till she accepts me." Kim pushed him back a bit heading to the couch to crash out a bit. Adam groaned but it was for the best.
The couple watched a documentary till Kim was starting to fall asleep. "I better head home. See you tomorrow." Kim leaned in making out with him a few minutes longer. "Good night!" Adam patted her butt as she headed out. Adam checked on Izzy before be got in to bed for the night. Kim walked Ranger one last time before she went to bed as well. The couple falling asleep alone but happy for the progress they were making as a couple dispite the discourse with Wendy. They knew they had this. Because they had each other.
