When I arrived, Vanessa was already waiting for me at the door. She unlocked it and let me inside, then gave me a rundown of all my duties. Apparently, every animatronic needed a full case repair and joint test at the beginning and end of every day and a test of their joints and voice boxes before every show and event. I got my security uniform, Fazwatch, and all-access security pass and then she told me to go tell the animatronics about my new position, seeming she didn't notify them to 'surprise them'.
I went to Freddy's door and knocked, hearing a cheerful 'come in!' come from inside. I used my pass to open the door to Freddy already looking at me. "Natalie! You came back!" He hugged me again, a little lighter, and then pulled back and looked down at me. "It's before opening. Why are you here so early?"
"Vanessa gave me a job as the animatronics caretaker."
Freddy stared at me for a moment, then my feet left the floor again. "Yes! I promise I'll follow your every command! I promise!"
I pushed on his arms currently circling my waist. "Freddy...still human...still breathe."
Freddy put me back down. "I have to stop doing that. I'm a lot stronger than I used to be. I really look forward to seeing you more, Natalie."
"You too, Freddy. I'll be back to do your joint test before we open."
Roxy's room was next to Freddy's, so I went there next. She was at her vanity, brushing her hair. When I walked in, she turned in a circle, then looked down at me. "How do I look?"
"Perfect as ever, Rox."
She gave me a smile and walked over to me, running her fingers through my bangs on the right side of my face. "We should dye it green."
"No, we shouldn't." I spoke. "I'm fine as I am."
"Can I at least give you some new clothes? I mean, what is that? Security guard? You're basically a bodyguard for a bunch of glam stars!"
I looked down at my uniform; plain white button-down, black slacks, black sneakers, my utility belt, and a name tag with my name and 'main animatronic handler' etched into gold. "Maybe later. I have to go tell everyone else."
"Okay, but I swear I'll give you a makeover with Chica sooner rather than later."
Monty's room was next, but I figured I should probably save that one for last, since Monty seemed like the most likely to want to kill me first. I decided to check up on Chica. Chica was practicing her guitar skills. As soon as she saw it was me, her guitar was flying onto her couch and she hugged me, jumping up and down while squealing out how much she missed me.
"Chica, sweetie, feet on floor." She took a little longer to listen to me but eventually put me down. "What brings you back? Why are you dressed like...DID YOU GET HIRED?"
"Main caretaker, yes." My feet were off the floor again. By this point, I figured I better get used to it.
After Chica calmed down enough, I went to Monty's room. I took a deep breath before knocking and the door opened before I even got a response. "Got the message from Freddy. Congrats, hot cakes."
"Hot cakes?"
"You know I'm from the bayous; hot cakes are special."
"Well then, can I give you a nickname?"
Monty stared at me for a second, then shrugged. "If ya want, but you gotta change it if I don' like it."
I thought for a second. "Gatorade?"
He huffed. "I don't like it."
"Too late, it's official. I gotta do Freddy's maintenance check."
"You said you would change it!"
"I never said that." I was just able to hear Monty's chuckle before his door closed, and my watch beeped signaling a new message from Vanessa. Time to check on all of them before opening. I sent them all a message asking if they were ready for their daily checks.
I got affirmatives from everyone and went back into Freddy's room. Apparently, Monty told everyone I gave him a nickname and now most everyone wanted one as well. Freddy wanted to stay 'Freddy'. Roxy was in perfect condition. She said she was good with 'Rox', but was good with some other childish names like 'little miss perfect' or something along those lines. Chica's voice box needed some adjusting after screaming in excitement, but it was fixed. She wanted to be called 'Chickie' or 'Chi' for short.
The first day was easy, just various checks and Freddy and Monty had birthday parties. Most of that was escorting them to the party areas and applying anti-freeze to Freddy since he was supposed to deliver an over-sized ice cream cake. Any of my free time was spent monitoring meet-and-greets and I was able to spend an hour behind the ice cream counter in the bowling alley until Freddy said some kid tried to use him as a jungle gym and needed some stuff marks rubbed off. By the time nine came around, Vanessa messaged me saying I could leave and told me to get some rest, because tomorrow is when the real work begins.
I figured I could ask Freddy about Foxy and Bonnie when I got back.
