Truth And Fantasy

Chapter 5

It took me days before I was able grasp the reality of what this meant.

I had a son. I was a father. As angry and confused as I was about Brooke's actions.

He was putting that aside for now.

A stunned expression went across Haley's face as she was filled in on what was going on with her best friend.

(When I ran into Brooke at her store front I met her little boy and it never crossed my mind about the father. I figured she would tell me what I needed to know in her own time.)

(Bennett is yours. He's 5. Like Jamie and Lydia. Why didn't I put that together?)

(What are you going to do now that you know?) Haley asked.

(I want to get to know him. Make up for lost time. But first I have to tell Lindsey.) Lucas explained.

(I'm truly happy and excited for you.) Haley proclaimed. Hugging him tightly.

Lucas hugged her back.

...

Days later

With Bennett safe and off at school. I took some time to do some target practice at the gun range in town. It made me feel safer knowing I could defend us if needed.

But if it came down to it. Her and Bennett would leave town.

As much as she wanted to plant roots and be comfortable.

She knew Tree Hill could be a retreat or a fishbowl.

She loved her son more than anything she ever had in her life.

She had lowered her guard and let a man into their life.

It not only backfired it nearly blew it apart.

And she wouldn't let that happen again.
