Heads up: I'm going to bump up the rating for the upcoming chapter, just letting y'all know.
Chapter three: Spending time together
Bugs was sleeping in his bed until the morning sun's rays seeped through the cracks in the blinds and he groaned as he rolled over to keep sleeping, then to his mild annoyance the phone rang. He clumsily picked up his phone while fighting off the urge to fall back asleep.
"Hello?" Bugs asked into the phone, holding his head in slight pain.
"Hi Bugs, did i wake you?" Lola asked.
"Yeah" Bugs said.
"Sorry, want me to call you later?" Lola asked.
"Please, that would be nice. My head hurts a little" Bugs said. Holding his head with a hand.
"Aw poor thing, i hope you get better" Lola said before hanging up.
"Ugh, well...better get up anyway" Bugs said to himself. Holding his head with one hand he got up and went to the bathroom to wash his face and walked downstairs.
Starting the coffee maker Bugs let that brew before going to the medicine drawer and popped two pills with a glass of water, grabbing the newspaper he started reading, all the while his throbbing headache continued to get worse, he grabbed his head with one arm while he dialed Lola's number with the other.
"Hello?" Lola asked.
"Hey" Bugs said.
"Hey Bugs, you feel any better?" Lola asked.
"No. My head is killing me" Bugs said.
"You want me to take care of you? I'd imagine you won't get better by yourself" Lola said.
"S-sure" Bugs said as he flinched.
'Okay, I'll be over soon" Lola said. Bugs hung up the phone and laid there on the couch.
(Back with Lola)
Lola was on the couch watching television as she ended the call with Bugs, he was sick and wasn't feeling too good, Lola frowned in disappointment. They were supposed to spend the day together later, oh well.
'At least i can spend the day taking care of him' Poor dear. She got up and walked to her bedroom and looked through her wardrobe, moving away dresses and shirts until she found what she was looking for.
Her nurse's outfit.
"Don't worry Bugs, Nurse Lola is here to help" she said triumphantly to herself as she went to the bathroom to change.
(Later)
Lola finally arrived at Bugs' house and saw him asleep on the couch; she sat next to him and gently roused him from his sleep.
"Hey" Bugs said weakly.
"Feeling better?" Lola asked gently.
"A little, now that you're here" Bugs said, Lola blushed.
"At least your sense of humor is still intact" she joked. Bugs laughed weakly.
"Want an ice pack for your head?" Lola asked.
"Sure" Bugs said.
"Ok then, want me to make you some soup or something? You need to eat" Lola said.
"Y-yeah, the soups in the cupboard" Bugs said. Lola got up and went over to the kitchen and pulled out some broth and poured it into a bowl before putting in the microwave before hitting the auto cook broth button and pressed start.
"Open wide" Lola instructed as she had a thermomotor in her hand, Bugs opened his mouth and she put the device, he closed his mouth and held it there for a few seconds before it beeped.
"100.7" Lola said as she took the thermomotor back, placing her hand on his head and hissed as she took her hand away.
"S-sorry we weren't able to hang out today, Lo, but I'll make it up to you somehow. I promise" Bugs said weakly.
"You don't need to feel bad, just worry about getting better" Lola instructed softly. The microwave beeped and she got up from her seat. She grabbed the soup from the microwave and walked over to the couch and set the soup and a coaster down before grabbing the spoon.
"Want me to feed you?" Lola asked.
"Yeah, I doubt I could do it by myself" Bugs said. Lola blushed and helped him sit up before taking the spoon.
"Open wide" Lola said.
(One bowl of soup later)
Lola set the empty bowl of soup down on the living room before checking Bugs' forehead, his fever went down so that was a good sign. She checked his temperature to see it read 99.7. It was still high but at least bugs looked better than he did before.
"Thanks for taking care of me" Bugs said.
"It's no trouble at all, you just get some sleep" Lola said, as she got up from her seat Bugs stopped her.
"You look cute by the way, love the outfit" Bugs said.
"Thanks Bugs" Lola said sweetly.
"You didn't need to go that far for me, y'know" Bugs explained.
"I wanted to, for you. Now rest" Lola said.
Bugs laid his head on the pillow and went to sleep as Lola sat down and watched television beside him.
(The next day)
Bugs woke up still on the couch to hear stuff going on in the kitchen, groaning as he sat up, he noticed Lola working in the kitchen and the smell of bacon and ham and cheese omelets cooking on the stove filled the air. It made his mouth water. He hasn't eaten since yesterday.
"Good morning, Lola" Bugs said. Rising from his position on the couch.
"Hey bugs, i hope you don't mind if i make breakfast today" Lola said.
"Not at all. You looked really cute in your nurse's outfit" Bugs said.
"Thanks" Lola said. "Breakfast is almost done" Lola added.
"Okay" Bugs said as he got up and walked to the bathroom to freshen up, the first thing he noticed that his headache was gone and he had more energy and he didn't feel drained or weak.
'Man, what Lola did must've worked' Bugs thought, then he thought about Lola in her nurses outfit as more thoughts flooded his mind, thoughts of the third kind, thoughts of a more adult variety that's too unclean for a story like this, so the author decided to keep those under wraps, he still had to feed his family after all. And not get canceled.
(A while later)
"Here you go Bugs" Lola said. Setting his plate in front of him, everything smelled so good, and he didn't waste any time and dug in. Lola sat across from him as they ate.
"Man, this is really good. You're a good cook" Bugs said, amazed by how everything tasted.
"Thanks" Lola said, the two quietly ate their breakfast in silence, until Bugs spoke up.
"So, i was thinking" Bugs started.
"Go on what were you thinking about" Lola said.
"Since we didn't get to spend the day like i had wanted, how about we go to the park, maybe after that we could go night swimming" Bugs proposed.
"That sounds like a nice idea. When do you think we should go?" Lola asked. Bugs looked at the clock on the microwave: it was around 10:00am. Bugs looked back at Lola.
"How about we leave at noon, i can get a pic-Nic basket ready and we could have lunch on the grass" Bugs explained.
"That sounds wonderful. What're we bringing?" Lola asked.
"I can go to the store and buy some stuff for chicken salad sandwiches and maybe some chips, if you want to get some fruits and other things, but keep it simple, nothing too hard or time consuming" Bugs said. The two finished their food just as Daffy walked into the house.
"Hey guysth...Lola, what're you doingth here" Daffy asked.
"Oh, bugs was sick and i took care of him all night yesterday" Lola explained.
"Oh, gladth your better" Daffy said simply before going upstairs.
"Should we get ready?" Lola asked. She and bugs got up and placed their dishes in the sink, as bugs grabbed his keys she stopped just shy of the door to the garage.
"Hey Lola, thanks for taking care of me yesterday" Bugs said.
"Don't mention it" Lola said. Bugs went up and suddenly kissed her on the cheek.
"That was compensation, nurse" Bugs joked as he walked out to his car and leaving Lola standing there. Then she touched her cheek and smiled. She grabbed her things and went back to her car and drove home.
(With Bugs at the grocery store)
"Let's see what we can find" Bugs said as he grabbed a shopping cart, his thoughts drifting back to Lola and what she could be doing right now. Hopefully she's getting everything on her end ready.
Bugs went over to the bread section and grabbed some white bread and made his way to the chicken salad in the refrigerated section of the store, putting that in the basket he went and grabbed some chocolate almonds and got some potato salad and cheese cubes. He went down a couple isles and grabbed some assorted chips and some water bottles.
"Ok i think i covered my end" Bugs said to himself as he went to check out his items.
(Back at Lola's house)
"Alright, there we go" Lola said as she put her hands on her hips. She cut up some watermelon, pineapple and grapes and made a fruit salad. Next, she grabbed some crackers and put them all together in a basket and headed back to Bugs house.
(Back with Bugs)
Bugs as driving home after putting his groceries in a small cooler he brought with him, when a store caught his eyes, it was a jeweler store that sold necklaces, rings and other jewelry. He slowed down and rode into the parking lot before stepping out and walking inside. Looking around he noticed the rings and necklaces all neatly displayed. But he knew deep down what he was looking for.
He walked up to a teller and cleared his throat.
"Can i help you with something sir?" the teller asked.
"I want to buy a promise ring for a special someone but don't know what to get" Bugs explained.
"I see, well there's a booklet with all our ring designs, just pick one and we'll have it out shortly, take your time and when you've found something just let us know" he said, passing a catalogue over to Bugs. He opened it and went through the pages. The designs were beautiful but unappealing to him until he landed on one that was perfect.
They were matching rings made of pure silver and had an Infinity symbol in the place of a jewel in the more desired engagement or wedding ring. The symbol was made of pure diamond and was a beautiful sky-blue color, it was perfect.
"I made my decision" Bugs said. He pointed to the rings and the cashier nodded.
"An excellent choice sir. I'll bring those right out" he said as Bugs checked the time on his watch.
11:45
"Wow, i need to hurry" Bugs said.
"Alright here are your rings sir" he said as he put the rings in a small bag.
"How much is it?" Bugs asked.
"Since they're promise rings and meant to come in pairs luckily its not much. That'll be $200" the cashier said
"Ok then" 'For Lola' Bugs thought. He handed him $230 and received fifteen dollars back in return.
"I'm sure she'll be very happy, sir. Good luck" he said. Bugs walked out and got back in his car and drove home.
(Back at Bugs' house)
Bugs grabbed the portable cooler and walked inside and made everything in record time and put the sandwiches in plastic wrap before putting them in the cooler and hastily ran upstairs and took a quick shower, put on some cologne and dressed himself in his best suit and ditched his gloves before rushing back outside and getting back in his car, and putting on one of the rings on his ring finger.
(Back with Lola)
*Knock* *Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
Lola was dressed in a beautiful blue dress, and she wore slip on shoes, she opened the door to see Bugs casually leaning on the side of the door while eating a carrot. He smiled at her, and she smiled back.
"Your late" Lola stated with fake anger present in her voice.
"Nah ah ah. I'm 'fashionably late' there a difference" Bugs joked making Lola laugh.
"Shall we get going?" Lola asked. One hand carrying a picnic basket.
"Let's shall" Bugs said. Taking Lola's hand, they made it to Bugs car.
"I see you got your stuff packed" Bugs said noticing the basket Lola was carrying.
"Yep, i see you have yours too" Lola said. Buckling up Bugs started the car, and they drove off to the park.
(Minutes later)
They arrived at the park and got out of Bugs car, luckily the weather was cool enough for Bugs to wear his suit without the thought of sweating too much and the sun barely shown, the weather being fairly cloudy.
"So where do you want to put the baskets?" Lola asked.
"An open area at least" Bugs said.
"Ok" Lola said.
(A few minutes later)
"Ok i think this is a good spot" Bugs said. He set the basket down and grabbed the picnic blanket, placing it down on the ground he opened the cooler and grabbed the sandwiches, potato salad, chocolate almonds, chips and cheese cubes as well as some paper plates.
"This spot is perfect" Lola said as she got out her own basket and retrieved the fruit salad, and the crackers.
"Help yourself to whatever you like, i brought enough" Bugs said.
"I'll just have to take you up on that Mr. 'Fashionably late'" Lola joked as they both laughed. The happily dug into what was there, and they had a wonderful time eating, joking, and telling stories. After the two ate they packed their things and started walking back to the car, but Bugs stopped, seemingly forgetting something.
"Wait a minute Lo, there's something i forgot to do" Bugs said.
"Oh, what was it?" Lola asked, a bit confused but also a bit curious. Bugs didn't say anything but took out a small box and started to speak.
"Lola, you're one amazing girl, and that time we went bowling and the time we went to Speedy's Pizzeria, even though we were with our friends made me realize how much i care about you. I've had the most amount of fun with you that I've had in years... Lola? I have to ask-" Bugs stopped for a second and got down on one knee while opening the box.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" Bugs asked. He laughed at himself on the inside for the theatrics, but he didn't care, all he cared about at that moment was Lola.
"Yes! I will be your girlfriend!" Lola said happily. Bugs gently put the ring on her finger, and she tackled him in a hug.
"I love you Bugs Bunny" Lola said.
"I love you more, Lola bunny" Bugs said as the two leaned in to nuzzle their noses before finally having their first kiss and after they joined lips fireworks exploded in their minds, and they wrapped their arms around each other.
A few minutes go by until they broke the kiss.
"Let's go home" Bugs said as he swept Lola off her feet and bridal carried her to the car. They made it to Bugs' car and got inside.
"You want to come over?" Bugs asked.
"Sure" Lola said.
The two arrived at Lola's house and stepped outside.
"So, I'll see you later tonight for night swimming, how does 10:30 sound?" Lola asked.
"Sounds good to me" Bugs said.
(Later that night, 10:30)
Bugs looked at the clock to see that it had reached 10:30 and knew it was time to pick Lola up, he turned off the television and went upstairs to his room and went into his closet and grabbed his swim trunks and put them on. Stopping to grab some towels on the way out
"I can't believe Lola and i are together. It feels like a dream" Bugs said happily.
Walking back downstairs in his swimwear he grabbed his keys and walked out of his house, getting in his car he pulled out of his driveway and drove over to Lola's house.
It didn't take him long to make it there and he stepped out of his car and walked up to the front door.
*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
Bugs waited patiently outside for Lola to come out and after a moment or two she did and what bugs saw made his heart start beating hard in his chest.
"So, what do you think?" Lola asked. She was dressed in a salmon pink two-piece swimsuit and Bugs felt himself unable to look away, but he shook his head to snap back to reality.
"You look great" Bugs said simply.
"I think you look great too" Lola said.
"Should we get going?" Bugs asked.
"Yeah" Lola said.
"I know a great lake that's not too far from here. The water is almost perfect and is clear enough to see your reflection" Bugs said. He and Lola got into his car and started driving.
"Ok, sounds good" Lola said.
(A while later)
The two had arrived in an open area with trees and a massive lake in its center. The warm air was crisp and chilly but not enough to make you feel cold. They stepped out of the car and walked over to the Lakes edge and looked in the water.
"The water is so clear" Lola said.
"I know" Bugs said.
"How did you find this place?" Lola asked.
"It was just something i knew about" Bugs said.
"And you never thought to bring me here until now?" Lola asked, fake anger present in her voice.
"Lola I'm sorry" Bugs said.
"Sorry won't cut it until you're in the water" Lola said mischievously as she pushed Bugs in the lake.
"AH!"
*SPLASH*
Lola jumped in too and they both started laughing. They swam to the waters center and dove down before hugging each other as they came back up. They leaned in and kissed each others lips. They wrapped their arms around each other and began making out. After a while they slowly pulled back, still connected by a strand of saliva.
"That, was, amazing" Lola said as she opened her eyes slowly. She stared into Bugs' eyes as the both leaned forward until their foreheads touched.
"I love you bugs and i always will" Lola said.
"I love you too" Bugs said.
"Last one to the bottom?" Lola asked, a challenging smirk on her face.
"You're on!" Bugs said, the two swam back a few feet before taking a deep breath and diving down into the water. They swam in the lake, had a splash fight, and relaxed in the chill waters. It wasn't long before their hands became pruney and they stepped out.
"Thanks for this amazing night, Bugs" Lola said as she dried herself off.
"Sure thing, Lola. I'm glad we're together" Bugs said. That comment warmed her heart as she smiled.
"Me too" Bugs said. He grabbed his towel and dried himself off. After they were dry enough they went back to the car and got in. The two buckled up and they drove home.
"You want to spend the night?" Bugs asked.
"Sure, i would love to" Lola said.
(The next day)
"Breakfast is ready" Lola called from the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm almost done in the shower" Bugs yelled from the upstairs bathroom.
After a few minutes Bugs was out of the shower and he walked down the stairs and entered the kitchen to see Lola finished with breakfast, a plate with an Omelet, bacon, and hashbrowns and Orange juice was at the table already prepared for him. Bugs sat down and begin eating.
"You out did yourself again Lola, this tastes amazing" Bugs said.
"Thank you, my secret ingredient is love" Lola said as she got a plate of food for herself and sat down.
"So what's the plan for today?" Bugs asked.
"I have no idea; whatever we want to do i guess" Lola said.
"How about we get the gang together and play some basketball at the rec center" Bugs suggested.
"Sounds like a plan" Lola said in agreement.
Bugs grabbed his phone and dialed Porky's number.
"H-he-he-he-he-hello?" Porky said with his usual stuttering voice.
"Hey i was wondering if you could round everyone up for some Basketball at the rec center later. Lola wants to play basket ball" Bugs said.
"S-s-s-sure, what time?" Porky asked. Bugs looked at Lola for an answer, she held up four fingers.
"About for o clock" Bugs said.
"O-o-o-o-okay, s-s-see you then" Porky said.
(Outside)
The two stepped out of Bugs' house, hoping to get going to the rec center when an unfamiliar voice decided to make itself heard.
"Well, well if it isn't Bugs Bunny. I knew I'd find you here" the voice said.
