I DO NOT OWN ZERO DAY. I AM HOPING TO UPDATE MORE FREQUENTLY SINCE I HAVE ROUGH DRAFTS UP TO CHAPTER 11 WRITTEN OUT; I JUST NEED TO REFINE THEM AND ADD THINGS.
John slumped back in his chair as Dr. Robertson continued to take notes. They had been at this for another day with John being pressed for details about his friendship with Cal and how he had missed any potential warning signs. As the day came and went, John began to feel that the good doctor was searching for more than just his version of events. He was worried that Dr. Robertson was trying to trap him into revealing new information that would make him look like he was a fellow traveler or some shit like that.
"It's getting pretty late." Dr. Robertson replied as he looked up. This was the 3rd day of this and they had been working on unpacking John's memories from sunup to sundown. "Do you want to call it a night?" The shrink was eager to know more about whatever involvement John may have had in Zero Day, but he also knew that pushing the boy to exhaustion would harm his cause more than help it. This was going on longer than he had expected it to. John looked at him with bloodshot eyes.
"I can't. It took a lot out of me to even tell you about this. If I stop now, i'll never be able to talk about it again. You wanted Cal's story straight and if you want the rest of it, we have to keep going. Once you open Pandora's box, you have to let everything come out." Dr. Robertson thought about it for a moment and then paged his secretary.
"Jennifer, call my wife and tell her that i'm going to be extremely late." He instructed. "And bring in some coffee, I think we're going to be here awhile." Once the coffee was brought in, Dr. Robertson continued writing. "Ok, so you went on this camping trip with the Gabriels. This was right before the school year started?"
"Yeah. Once school started, I could see why Andre and Cal hated it so much. Most of the guys were assholes, a lot of the girls were bitches, and the teachers were boring as Hell. Andre and Cal just faced it all as the Army Of Two."
"According to investigators, the intense preparation for "Zero Day" began around this time." Dr. Robertson commented. "Did you ever get any hints that Andre and Cal were planning something special?" John sighed as he drank the coffee.
"Yes, It was in the first month that I first noticed that something was going on, it was when I went over to Andre's place." John said as his mind drifted back.
September 3rd.
Normally, I would not have been going to Andre Kreigman's house for any reason, but in this instance, I had no choice in the matter. A package for him had been left on my front porch and my mom told me to take it over to Andre's. The suggestion that I take it over to Cal's and allow him to give it to Andre was shot down on account of wasting Cal's valuable time. I went over to the Kreigman's place and knocked on their door. I waited for a couple minutes, but no one answered. I sighed as I tried the door and found that it wasn't locked. I opened the unlocked door and went inside. The Kriegman house was quite nice and it was clear that Gerhard and Johanne took pride in their humble abode. As I approached Andre's bedroom, I heard him talking.
"In conclusion, live fast, live hard, and die by any combination of the two." Andre said with a strange sense of determination in his voice that I had never really heard out of him before. I waited a minute before walking in.
"Hey guys." I said as Andre and Cal turned off the computer and turned to me. They tried to act cool as cucumbers, but it was clear as day that I had caught them off guard doing something that I would know nothing about until after Zero Day.
"John, what the fuck are you doing here?" Andre asked in anger as he stood up and strategically moved in front of his computer; not wanting me to see whatever he had going on the screen.
"I got a package for you, the mailman left it at my house by mistake." I replied as I handed it to Andre who was livid as he snatched the package from my hand; as if I could contaminate whatever precious cargo lay within just by touching the box.
"Don't go pawing through my shit for fuck's sake." Andre shouted as he got right up in my face, trying to intimidate me. I hate to admit it, but the piece of shit was plenty intimidating before he even had a gun in his hands.
"Sorry dude..." I said awkwardly as I backed out of the room. I had no desire to have Andre beat my ass, so I was ready to make good on my escape. As I went to leave, Cal stopped me, looking awkward as Hell.
"Hey John, i'm sorry about Andre. It's just that..." He started to say as it was clearly a bitch for him to be caught between 2 friends that he didn't want to lose.
"Don't worry about it, it's cool." I said as I left the Kriegman home. It was later that I learned that they had been showing a power point they had made about Zero Day. I assume that the package that Andre had so uptight about was also involved with their plans. After that, I tried to stay as far away from Andre Kriegman as possible. As a consequence, I started to drift further from Cal.
