It had been two months since Wally had gotten his speed and while he couldn't do a lot of the things Barry could now, he'd at least mastered the basics enough for Barry to decide that he was ready to take the next step.
"Okay, why did you call me here, I thought we weren't training today?" Wally asked Barry as he sped into the cortex of Mount Flash to find his mentor, his sister, his parents and the rest of Team Flash waiting and Cisco was holding a box.
"I called you here because I think you're ready for the next level." Barry said.
"What does that mean?" Wally asked.
"A couple of things. But first, it means this." Cisco said as he walked up to Wally and handed him the box.
"Wait, is this what I think it is?" Wally asked eagerly as he opened the box, and sure enough, he found a real super suit inside it, instead of the embarrassing thing he'd been wearing for training until now.
"You earned this. Kid Flash." Barry said.
"Come on, is that really going to be my name?" Wally complained.
"Yes, it is. Once you turn 18, we can discuss a different one." Barry said, making it clear that was non-negotiable.
"Okay, but don't I get a ring like you and Caitlin have?" Wally asked curiously.
"Because that means that you have to keep your suit here when not in use, since we need to make sure that you don't try to go rogue. Besides, all the sidekicks have to keep their suits at their respective bases." Barry said, though that was a little lie, since he knew that Powergirl, Wonder Girl and Aqualad all kept their suits with them at all times, since Aqualad's suit was his usual atlantean attire, and Firestorm's uniform materialized when he used his powers.
"Fine. But is this all?" Wally asked curiously.
"No, but I'll show you the other part of this surprise once you're suited up." Barry said and Wally eagerly sped into his new costume, top half of the suit is completely silver with red gloves and red lines on the shoulder areas, while the bottom of the suit is also completely red. Unlike Barry's cowl, which covered his whole head, Wally's exposed his hair, but still allowed him to conceal his identity, plus, there was a pair of red goggles on his forehead.
"Nice." Wally said with a grin as he looked at his suit.
"Not as impressive as the ones I made for Barry and Caitlin, but still a masterpiece." Cisco agreed.
"Are you sure he's ready for this? I mean, you still haven't taken me for a tour of the Hall of Justice yet and I've been training with Red Tornado even longer than Wally's even had his powers and you still haven't even given me a suit yet." Iris said.
"Take that one up with your father. He's still mad I let Cisco make Wally a suit and even though you're a grown woman, he's even more protective of you than him." Barry said.
"Thanks a lot Barry." Joe said at seeing his daughter's glare.
"Hey, you know I'm more scared of Iris than you. But anyways, Wally and I need to go." Barry said.
"Wait, are we running somewhere?" Wally asked eagerly.
"No, we're zetaing somewhere. Follow me." Barry said as he activated Mount Flash's Zeta tube and set the coordinates.
"Flash, 08, confirmed, Kid Flash, B13, confirmed." The AI spoke as Wally followed his mentor through the tube.
"Where are we?" Wally asked when they exited the tube to find themselves in some kind of lair.
"Mount Justice in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island, headquarters of the Justice League's Young Justice program." Barry said.
"Young Justice?" Wally asked.
"Basically it's the League's way of giving us a little freedom by handling problems that aren't big enough to warrant their complete attention." a new voice said as Powergirl flew up to meet them.
"Wally West, meet Karen Danvers, aka Powergirl, protege of Supergirl and field leader of Young Justice." Barry said as Karen held out her hand to Wally, who shook it.
"I was wondering when we'd get a speedster to join our ranks, since we recently got an archer too. All we need now is a lantern and we'll have a protege from every founding member of the League." Karen said.
"Who else is on this team?" Wally asked.
"Well, aside from me, there's also Batman's sidekicks, Robin, Spoiler and Bluebird, Wonder Woman's protege Wonder Girl, Superman's sidekick Superboy, Martian Manhunter's niece and sidekick, Miss Martian, two of Black Lightning's sidekicks, Lightning and Firestorm, Aquaman's protege Aqualad, Batwoman's sidekick Batgirl and our newest member, Green Arrow's new protege, Silver Arrow. Though right now, Robin, Spoiler and Bluebird aren't available, since Robin and Spoiler are both hospitalized Bluebird was put in hiding by Batman until further notice. But the rest of the team is here, like you asked." Karen said, since Flash had summoned the whole team for some kind of mission.
"Good, let's go." Karen said as she led them into the war room where Wonder Girl, Superboy, Miss Martian, Lightning, Firestorm, Batgirl, Aqualad and Silver Arrow were waiting.
"Huh, I thought Supergirl was the one who deployed us on missions?" Lightning asked, since they were used to getting their missions from the leader of the Justice League herself.
"She's busy right now and since this was my case in the first place, she gave me the greenlight to assign it to you. Is that an issue?" Flash asked.
"Of course not, we're always happy to help, though I do wish this could've waited until we were back at full strength." Powergirl said, shooting her teammate a look to stand down.
"Understood, but this can't wait. Also, I'm gonna warn you now that this mission might not seem like something you'd get involved in, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take it seriously." Flash said.
"How can we help?" Wonder Girl asked as Powergirl took her usual place at her girlfriend's side.
"Over the past month, the League has noticed a substantial increase in child disappearances in Central City, Metropolis, National City, Freeland, Gotham City and Star City. At first these seemed like random events, kids just running away from home, things like that." Flash said.
"But you didn't think so." Batgirl said, since this was a little more personal for her, since before Batwoman had taken her in, she'd been one of those kids.
"No, new evidence found in Central City seems to indicate that these disappearances are actually abductions and it looks like at least in Central City, a metahuman is responsible for it. Your mission is to investigate the disappearances, find out what's happening to these kids, who's taking them and why. This is a strictly stealth and surveillance mission, gathering intel. If you find something, call it into your mentor to further investigate it. We need as much information about this as we can get before we make any moves against them." Flash said.
"Copy that. Do you have any places for us to start?" Powergirl asked before any of her teammates could complain.
"I've already sent everything I have on this case to your system. Keep us informed. And yes, if any more immediate missions come up, they can take priority, but this is a chance for you all to develop your investigation skills, since superheroes can't just rely on powers or weapons or fighting skills. After all, you do know which one of Batman's many nicknames is right." Flash said.
"The world's greatest detective. Green Arrow's taking classes from him so he can teach me." Silver Arrow said.
"Of course he is. This is a good test for all of you to learn that not every case is an open and shut one that can be solved by punching someone. I've already sent the mission details to Batman, so he can loop in Robin, Spoiler and Bluebird so they can join you once they're back in the field." Flash said as he ended the meeting.
