The school sports festival was right around the corner. Kazuhiro spent his Saturday morning going to UA and training in one of their facilities. His other classmates were at the school to do the same. One of the many facilities offered by UA is the Target Range, an outdoor field that provides students the opportunity to test out their Quirks with range capabilities.
As he walked down the hallway, Kazuhiro looked out of the window to see a few of his classmates practicing with their Quirks. All of them were wearing their gym uniforms but Kazuhiro was walking in wearing a casual attire of just a t-shirt and shorts. When he turned and exited the building, he ran into the boy from Class 1-B who confronted Bakugo. With him were two other students, a girl with orange hair tied in a ponytail and a blonde boy.
"Hey, I remember you, you're one of those arrogant asshats from 1-A," the silver-haired boy said.
"Don't mistake me for Bakugo, he's the one with the problem," Kazuhiro pointed out.
"Oh, really, but aren't the ones who enjoy being basked in the spotlight?" the blonde boy asked.
"Stop antagonizing him, Monoma," the girl with the ponytail said.
"Yeah, but his class were the ones who told off the non-hero course kids
"Again, that's Bakugo," Kazuhiro pointed out again. "Look, sorry if he acted like an ass that day but I guarantee you, not everyone shares his attitude."
"I see, well, sorry for judging. I guess I was riding my emotions from that encounter," the silver-haired boy said.
"How the rest of your class is doesn't matter. You left a bad impression on a lot of people and they're all going to be gunning at you. After all, if a student beats anyone from 1-A, the class that survived a villain attack, then someone is on the chopping block," Monoma warned. "As for me, I plan to prove that Class 1-B can shine as well as 1-A."
"We'll see how it goes," Kazuhiro said.
The blonde boy smirked and walked past Kazuhiro, slightly brushing his arm against his. Kazuhiro thought that Momma tried to push him to intimidate him and that he didn't put in enough effort. He turned around and said, "Don't underestimate us. You may have the spotlight but that can get stolen by anyone else."
Monoma walks away with the silver-haired boy following him. The girl with the orange ponytail said, "Sorry about Monoma, I think hearing nothing but your class for the past two weeks drove him kinda insane."
"No, problem, it's my classmate's fault for antagonizing everyone in the first place," Kazuhiro said.
The girl nodded before leaving to follow her classmates. The silver-haired boy asked Monoma, "You touched him, didn't you?"
"Well, I wanted to see what kind of Quirk he has. We'll see if it's beneficial for our victory," Monoma said.
Monoma extended his arm. The silver-haired boy leaned forward in anticipation while the girl with the ponytail crossed her arms.
"Anything?" the silver-haired boy asked.
"Hm, it feels like a blank but I'm not feeling any presence of a Quirk," Monoma said. "I guess we'll see what the festival holds for us."
Shortly after encountering Class 1-B, Kazuhiro went to the Target Range. He transformed into Kamen Rider Decade and used the Ride Booker. Decade aimed with his weapon as three clay pigeons were fired into the air. He fired five shots and struck the last two last two clay pigeons.
"Two out of three, not bad," Decade said. Next to him was a control panel that determined the difficulty of the wave of clay pigeons. He set the number from three to six. He set the countdown and started the timer. He quickly pulled out an AttackRide card and inserted it as the clay pigeons were launched into the air.
[AttackRide: Blast]
The card created several projections of the Ride Booker as Decade fired, firing a wave of bullets at the clay pigeons. Decade managed to shoot down every single clay pigeon.
"Six out of six," Decade smirked beneath his helmet. He glanced at the accuracy, which was low because firing multiple bullets that don't hit the target is a miss. When he glanced back to the front, he noticed that Ride Booker was swiped "What the?!"
"Ohoho, a custom firearm. I wonder if it's from the same company that developed Snipe's gun," a female voice said. Decade turned around to see a girl with pink hair and goggles inspecting the Ride Booker. She wore a black tank top with overalls, the top part being tied around her waist. The Ride Booker suddenly transformed into its sword mode. "And it transforms!"
"And it's not a toy!" Decade snapped, materializing the Ride Booker back into his hands. The pink-haired girl with goggles suddenly got in front of him inspecting the Ride Booker and his outfit from multiple angles, making the Rider slightly uncomfortable. "Who are you supposed to be?"
"Oh, where are my manners, my name is Mei Hatsume, and I'm from the support course," the girl grinned.
"The support course?"
"You know, the ones studying to develop support items for heroes," Hatsume explained. She could tell beneath Decade's helmet that he still didn't know what she was talking about. "You don't know anything about the support course or even the support companies that make them?!"
"Can't say I do," Decade said. The Kamen Rider knew that heroes needed gear and that companies created them, but he didn't know they were called support companies and that they were one of this school's education courses.
Hatsume's jaw dropped. She said, "How could you not know about us or the support companies?! We're the reason why heroes have the costumes and gear they use! Like this sword!"
Somehow Hatsume stole the Ride Booker from Decade's hand, and he had to summon it in his hands yet again. She asked, "Where did you think your stuff comes from?
"Let's just say that, unlike others, my gear doesn't come from the support companies or anyone else."
"I see, so you custom-made them yourself!"
"Not exactly, I just summon in my hand out of nowhere. I don't know how they're made or the intricacies of how they work."
"Sounds like a mystery for me to solve," Hatsume said as she moved her face close to the Ride Booker. The weapon disappeared right off Decade's hand.
"I'm not interested in learning the fundamentals of how my stuff works. If it works, it works," Decade said. He then asked, "So is there a reason why you're here or are you just interested in my stuff?"
"A bit of both," Hatsume said. "Power Loader wanted to see you. You're Kazuhiro Kimura, right? He told me to look for the student wearing pink armor so I'm guessing it;'s you."
"It's not pink, it's magenta," Decade said.
"Whatever you say! He told me to look for you and I couldn't but be inspired by your gear!" Hatsume said. She suddenly started touching up his arm. "I seriously want to know what your suit is made of. I can tell it's light but sturdy. If I can get my hands on that material, I can't imagine the effectiveness of my babies!"
Decade pulled his arm away from Hatsume's grasp. He asked, "What do you mean babies?"
Hatsume smirked, "They're my inventions. With UA's resources, I've been able to create high-quality gear fit for a Pro! Why don't we go to the Development Studio and I can hook you up with my latest super cute babies"
"No, thanks, my inventory is already full as it is," Decade said.
"Oh, well, your loss but still, Power Loader wants to see you over there," Hatsume said. She grabbed Decade's wrist and pulled him as she walked. "Come on, maybe while you're there you might even reconsider my offer!"
"This girl's assertiveness is off the charts!" Decade thought.
Decade arrived at the Development Studio, where students from the support course go to develop their gear. Hatsume dragged Decade into the room. She announced, "Power Loader, I brought him in here!"
Decade looked around to see several projects in progress left on the table. Hatsume dragged him to where Power Loader, who was overlooking a few computer monitors. One of the screens looked like the Magia except somewhat altered. The Silhouettes of these robots were similar but they had their differences in armor design and color.
"Oh, hello, Kimura. Sorry to drag you from your training session but when I saw you in today, I knew I had to have you be the one to test something that we've been cooking in the Development Studio," Power Loader said. "Hatsume, do you mind setting up the course?"
Hatsume saluted and said before heading out, "I'm on it!"
"What is it do you need me to test?" Decade asked.
"As you know, you weren't the only person outside of this world to stop by UA," Power Loader said as he pulled up the images of his fight against the Magia as Decade and Gaim. "You came with 22 robotic soldiers from Hundred. Most of them were relatively intact and we attempted to reverse-engineer as best we could."
"So you guys made near-perfect replicas of them."
"I wouldn't say near-perfect, they're heavily flawed designs but that's intentional," Power Loader said as he scratched the back of his head. "These things were originally designed to commit genocide so we had to make them weaker so if they were ever hijacked, they can be easily defeated."
"Why did you even make them in the first place?"
"Training purposes. The robots we have now may be big and threatening but they can't be used in closed-quarters and tight spaces. So these training robots are designed for such environments," Power Loader turned around. "You can probably guess why I requested you to test them."
"It's because I'm the one with experience against them and you wanted me to compare Hundred's robots and yours."
"Correct. So think you can do it?"
"Well, exercising with targets that can fight back will be more exciting than shooting clay pigeons all day," Decade said.
Power Loader took Decade to one of the Battle Centers around campus. This was closed off to allow the UA teacher to field test the new robots. Decade stood in an open warehouse where 10 Magia Replicas stood. One of them was a Replica of the Neohi Magia, the squid-themed soldier. Power Loader was in the command room, observing the match. As for Hatsume, she sat on top of some scaffolding after she set up the arena.
"You should probably spectate the match from a much safer distance," Decade said as he got in a fighting stance with just his fists.
"No thanks, I think I'd like to see you in action in person," Hatsume smirked. "Seeing you use your weapons is just the fuel I need to get inspired.
Decade nodded disapprovingly as the Magia Replicas began to attack. The robotic replicas charged at Decade from multiple directions. Since the Replica was unarmed, Decade decided to challenge himself by also fighting unarmed. Unlike the original Trilogite Magias, the Replicas fell with a strong punch or kick.
They were all quickly defeated except for the Neohi Replica, which threw its tentacles at Decade and slashed him all over his body multiple times. Hatsume was impressed that the armor looked unscathed from such an attack, even though she saw sparks fly all over his body. Decade summoned the Ride Booker and sliced the tentacles to attack him. He transformed its gun and blasted the Neohi Replica. Decade pulled out a Final AttackRide card and inserted it.
[Final AtackRide: D-D-D-Decade]
Decade transformed the Ride Booker into its sword and ran through the cards. When he ran through the last card, his sword emitted a magenta-colored energy and extended it. He swung the blade through the Neohi Replica's waist, causing an explosion.
"Interesting, so you use that belt to activate powerful attacks! Is it still part of your Quirk or did you get someone else to make it!?" Hatsume asked.
"Like I said, everything you see here is because of my Quirk," Decade said.
"No time for chit-chat, Kimura. Here comes the next wave of enemies!" Power Loader spoke as several Magia Replicas dropped from the ceiling and a few others came out of hiding. They circled Decade. An Onchyo Replica, a bat-themed soldier, was also present, flying around the warehouse. "This wave is much larger and their intelligence is better"
All of them except the Onycho Replica were armed with knives and short blades. Decade pulled out a Kamen Ride card and inserted it.
[Kamen Ride: Den-O]
Decade transformed into Kamen Rider Den-O. His suit transformed into a black undersuit with armor pieces flying around riding a train track. He had white armor on his wrist, and silver pieces on his legs. Above his kneepads was a red plate. His helmet was blank save for a silver mouthpiece.
[Sword Form]
Suddenly a peach-shaped visor rolled over his head and into his eyes, splitting off into the the helmet's eyes. The red armor pieces began to fly into Den-O's chest. He had large, flat shoulderpads and the chest piece had a train track down the middle.
Hatsume had her eyes widened during the whole transformation sequence. This was fueling her imagination with a new idea for support gear. Den-O summoned the DenGasher, Den-O's weapon of choice. The blade of the weapon was short when compared to the long handle it had.
Den-O immediately turned around and sliced through a Magia Replica that tried to attack him from behind. He then ran into a group of Magia Replicas. He ran through them, slicing through them with ease. Den-O turned around and raised the DenGasher to block an oncoming strike from behind. He kicked the Magia Replica in the knee, causing it to lose balance before slashing through him. On the right side of peripheral vision, he saw another incoming Magia Replica and cut him down before he could even swing.
The Onycho Replica swooped down and grabbed Den-O. The Kamen Rider dropped the DenGasher as he was lifted into the air. He was rammed through one of the support pillars. Den-O quickly headbutted the Onycho Replica, letting him go and crashing into the scaffolding Hatsume was sitting on. Hatsume managed and used her boots to land safely, as they hovered a few feet off the ground.
Den-O groaned as he got up. He glanced at Hatsume's boots. He asked, "Are they hovering?"
"These babies are my Hover Soles. They're perfect for both mobility and safe landing. You could use one since it looks like you tend to crash land," Hatsume explained.
"First of all, you only seen me crash like that once," Den-O said as he got up. "Secondly, are you using this as an opportunity to sell your gear to me?!"
"Maybe," Hatsume said with a blank smile, causing Den-O to groan.
The Kamen Rider shoved Hatsume aside once he saw a group of Magia Replicas running at them. He shouted, "Seriously get out of here!"
Hatsume ignored Den-O and continued to follow him as he fought the Magia Replica. She said, "I've been thinking, we should team up! Think about the benefits of our partnership!"
Den-O groaned as he sliced through a Magia Replica. He said as he continued fighting, "Our Benefits? You're probably using me to get inspiration from my gear while also shoving your creations in my face."
"Like I said, my babies are top-of-the-line products of my ingenuity and UA's bountiful resources," Hatsume said. A Magia Replica tried to attack Hatsume from behind.
Den-O noticed it and shouted, "Behind-!"
Suddenly, a hydraulic pole was ejected from Hatsume's backpack, launching her in the arm. A second one was quickly fired out to help her balance herself in the air. The Magia Replica tripped on the pole and fell to the ground. Den-O walked over to the Replica and stabbed him in the back. He looked up to see Hatsume smirking.
"You don't have to worry about me! My Hydraulic Attachments allow me to evade the attacks. I have advanced sensors around me, no sneak will get the better of me!"
The Onycho Replica tried to sweep in and attack Hatsume but the Hydraulic Attachement swiftly retracted the poles, allowing her to fall. She used her Hover Soles to land safely. Den-O turned his head, tracking the Replica's movement.
"Of course, you can have this baby if you let me take a look at that armor. I need to understand how it can easily attach to your body so accurately!" Hatsume exclaimed.
"This is seriously not the time to do that right now!" Den-O snapped as he turned around. When Den-O looked forward, the Onycho Magia tried to dive at him yet again. Instinctively, he grabbed Hatsume and pushed her down with him to protect her from the Replica.
"These babies are still in the prototype stage! At least be careful!"
Den-O ignroed her and got up. She got on her knees, as the Kamen Rider tried to swing his sword at the Onycho Replica like a fly swatter hitting a bug. However, every time Den-O was close to attacking him, the Replica dodged the attack.
"It's not just a slight added difficulty, this guy knows my attacks and is constantly on the move," Den-O spoke.
"Hehe, you know, if you need someone to stay still then you should use this baby," Hatsume said as she put her gear on Den-O's face. It was a gun with a funnel-shaped barrel." This is the Capture Gun, it fires cartridges that expand into a net that can capture any villain!"
Den-O, annoyed by her assertiveness gave in and grabbed the Capture Gun. He quickly aimed it at the sweeping Onycho Replica. The Capture Net fired a net that captured the Replica. Den-O quickly grabbed Hatsume and pulled her to the side as the Replica crashed into the ground. Now that the Onycho Replica is trapped inside the net, it allows Den-O to activate his finisher. The Kamen Rider quickly pulled out a Final AttackRide card and used it.
The Kamen Rider tossed the Capture Gun to the side, Hatsume quickly catching it.
[Final AttackRide: D-D-D-Den-O!]
Electricity cackled from the Decadriver and directly onto the DenGasher.
[Full Charge!]
Den-O pointed the sword upwards and the blade flew into the air. The blade followed the DenGasher's movement as it was still connected. Den-O swung the blade through the Onycho Replica from the left and right before raising the sword in the air and striking it down, blowing the Replica up.
"Wow, what a display of power! Your attacks must be bursting with energy if they can cause explosions like that!" Hatsume exclaimed. Den-O sighed as he transformed back into Decade. He then de-transformed out of Decade. "So, what did you think of my Capture Gun?"
"It works," Kazuhiro said.
"Hm, are you now interested in the partnership?" Hatsume said.
"Not really. I'm still pretty stocked with my stuff. I'm sure other students in my class would be interested in that kind of stuff."
"Well, that's a shame," Hatsume said. "Still, watching you has gotten some ideas spurred in my head so thanks to you I have more projects on the list!"
Hatsume used her boots to hover and said, "Welp, back to the Development Studio. If you ever need an upgrade, you know who to look for!" She burst out of the warehouse with her Hover Soles.
Kazuhiro would later meet with Power Loader back at the Development Studio. The Pro Hero asked," So how were the Replicas?"
"As you said, they're heavily flawed but they're good alternatives to standard targets," Kazuhiro said. "Although the Onycho Magia seemed to be the hardest opponent out of them all. He is smart enough to actively dodge my attacks."
"I see. I guess I'll run it by the other teachers and see what we can do with them. Thanks for your help, Kimura," Power Loader said. Kazuhiro nodded.
As he walked towards the exit, he saw Hatsume working on her projects.
"Immediately putting those ideas to work, huh?" Kazuhiro asked.
Hatsume turned around and looked closely at Kazuhiro. She said, "Oh, it's you! Sorry, I just got so used to seeing you with a mask!"
"But you've seen me without it before you left."
"Yeah, but my head was so full of inspiration from your fight that it must've left my head!" Hatsume said. "I can't see you during the Sports Festival, because I'm going to be watching you very closely!"
Kazuhiro slightly blushed. He knows what she meant but her assertiveness and cluelessness about it can make anyone think otherwise. He said, "Just tone it down with the whole sales pitch thing. It's a festival, not a commercial."
"From what I understand, the festival is a great way for students like you to advertise yourself to the world. So I'm going to do the same," Hatsume said.
"You're allowed to bring gear?"
"Only the support students. People from support companies also watch the competition and scout out future talent, just like agencies,"
"I see, well then ignore what I just said. Make it the biggest commercial you can ever make."
Hatsume smiled and said, "Will do!"
As Hatsume got back to work, Kazuhiro left the Development Studio. Kazuhiro got a slight boost in determination, steeling himself for the festival that was to come in the following week.
Author's Corner
If the last chapter was a preview of the USJ arc, then this chapter will be a prologue to the Sports Festival arc. I intended to have some kind of "filler" feel to it, but I thought I should make it fun at the very least. I only did so because Hatsume will have a lesser role in the Sports Festival arc. I think she and Kazuhiro have similar roles of being gadget-based fighters so you can probably guess what happens in the next few chapters. I also thought having Hatsume interested in Kazuhiro's transformations and weapons would be a fun angle since they seem to function so effortlessly, which she wants to try to understand.
As for the use of Den-O, I would like to say that depending on the Rider, it will kind of dictate the tone of the fight. As you saw, the fight between Decade/Den-O and the Magia Replicas was supposed to be less serious and comedic, so look forward to those.
Response Corner:
christianrajapaksa345 (from chapter 8): I wouldn't consider Kazuhiro an Outsider because Foundation X isn't completely aware of his presence. He is an outsider in the sense that he is a foreigner in the world of MHA. As for Zein, I'm thinking about including him. Maybe towards the end but as of now, Hundred will be Kazuhiro's main enemy.
FlameFireZero X (from chapter 8): Welp, hope this chapter answers your question. I do plan on making him team up with the supporting characters more often since Kazuhiro isn't always going to be in the plot of the MHA's plotline.
brave kid (from chapters 7 and 8): Funny enough, when you posted that initial review I had already written chapter 7 way ahead of time and it was just a funny coincidence. That being said, Agito is one of my favorite seasons of Kamen Rider. It's kinda underappreciated as it's right smack dab in between Kuuga and Ryuki. As for your other question, I'm making him stick to the main Riders. He already has an extensive kit of weapons, bikes, and forms at his disposal. He doesn't need more than that other than Geats.
On a side note, the newest Rider in Kazuhiro's card deck is Revice and Geats will come in later.
Ness45 (from chapter 8): Well, Hundred is the main villain group of the story so...
