CHAPTER FIVE
All the students all left and lavender outside the doors to the Great Hall. She saw Professor McGonagall walking towards her and told her to follow. Lavender did and they walked up a few flights of stairs until they reached a statue of a gargoyle. The Professor said a password that lavender didn't hear and soon steps began to appear, and the gargoyle began to move upwards. They climbed the stairway until they reached a door. Professor McGonagall knocked on the door and heard a "come in." To which they did. As they entered lavender stayed back a little bit, because of the fear of being kicked out.
Professor McGonagall and lavender walked in. It was a large and beautiful circular room, full of funny little noises. Several curious silver instruments stood on spindle-legged tables, whirring, and emitting little puffs of smoke. The walls were covered with portraits of old headmasters and headmistresses, all of whom were snoozing gently in their frames. There was also an enormous, claw-footed desk. At the desk sat the headmaster himself.
"Ahh, yes hello Professor McGonagall. How can I help you," He asked?
"Well, this is Lavender Ambrosius. She was put into two houses." Professor McGonagall replied.
"Right. Right. Well then it really depends on you, Miss Ambrosius." Said the Headmaster.
"But what if I don't know what house I fit in? What then" Lavender asked?
"Well, we could allow her to experience both houses and then after the first term end then she can pick." He spoke.
"If we allow that we would have to inform the rest of the Professors about this arrangement, but where would she sleep?"
"She could choose where she sleeps. And yes, you are right. We do have to inform the rest of the teachers about this arrangement. We would also have to change her schedule. The good thing is that Slytherins and Gryffindors are in the same classes. Well then, is that it?"
"Yes, headmaster Dumbledore. Come this way." Professor McGonagall said as she led lavender out of the room and back down the hidden stairway.
They walked down the hallway and down a flight of stairs.
"Tonight, you'll stay in the Gryffindor common room and then tomorrow you should receive a new schedule. And the rest of the figuring out bit will also happen tomorrow."
Lavender nodded her head, a little afraid to speak. They continued their way to the Gryffindor common room. As they drew near the common room entry way they were met with a painting of a Fat Lady.
Professor McGonagall said "toadstool."
The portrait revealed a living room like room, where there were a few students still up and about. They walked into the room and Professor McGonagall called to a girl, who wear a badge that said "prefect."
"Hello Professor. How can I help you" asked the older girl.
"Misty, this is Lavender. I would like you to tell her the house rules and all the other rules and show her to her classrooms tomorrow. Now I must go and finish any last-minute details. Have a goodnight." With that Professor McGonagall left, leaving lavender to stand uncomfortable in front of the older girl.
"Hi. My name is Misty. I'm the girl prefect of this house. You do not have to worry about anything. Well, I better tell you what the rules are." Misty said as she led lavender over to the couches.
They talked for a good hour until they had to go to bed. Lavender walked up the steps and walked into see four poster beds are covered in red eiderdowns with red curtains, a nightstand next to it and the students school trunks at the foot of the beds. A yellow banner that says Gryffindor with their house mascot is hung on top of their bed. A wooden chair and dresser is near the bed. A lamp is placed on their dresser and on their wooden board. A wooden board is situated on either side of their bed for students to decorate. The dorm has stone walls and wooden floors. The windows have red curtains. There is also a white pillow on the floor, a perch on their dresser, and a snuffbox on top of their trunk for the pets. Lavender walked out to one of the beds and saw that her belongings were next to the bed, and she saw Sapien there as well. She went to her trunk and opened it. She pulled out a pair of plain pjs and walked to the bathroom. After getting changed and did her normal routine, she walked to her bed and pulled the sheets down. Lavender then grabbed the curtain that would block people from seeing her. She lay down and thought over what happened with how she met Remus and how the boy Sirius was just mean and annoying. She also recalled how the headmaster didn't kick her out for being in two houses. Sleep overtook after some time, and she was met with darkness.
—
The next day lavender woke up to see that it was morning, but it was still dark out. She pulled back her curtains to see that some of the beds were already empty and some of them still had girls sleeping in. She stretches out her arms for being in a very uncomfortable position and moved her legs around until they were over the bed. She also saw that there was a package on top of her truck with her owl next to it, still asleep. She went over to the package and opened it up to see a new pair of robes with a different logo on it. One side was Gryffindor and the other Slytherin, with the colors of the inside was a mix of green and red along with gold and silver. She gently placed the robes down and went over to the bathroom to get into uniform.
As she walked into the bathroom, she saw that she was the only one there. She turned on the shower and got into it after getting undressed. She washed herself with cold water to wake herself up, since she was still tired, but she didn't want to go back to sleep. Once she got out of the shower and put on her uniform on, she walked out and back to where the new robe was and picked it up to see that there was a crest on it. She then noticed that a letter fell onto the floor. She picked up the letter and opened it and read.
To Miss Ambrosius
Because of these interesting circumstances, here is a new robe with a crest with the two Houses. Of course, it can change if you so wish. There is also a tie that has on one side the Gryffindor colors and the other the Slytherin colors. On the back of this letter there is a new schedule to accommodate your needs. Professor Slughorn, along with the Houses' prefects was told about this circumstance.
From, Professor McGonagall
Lavender turned over the letter to see her new schedule and saw that after breakfast was herbology with the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. She placed down the letter and found the tie that was mentioned in the letter. She put the tie on and quickly tied it on the side of the gold and red colors. She then put on her robes and was surprised that the robes fit perfectly. She saw the crest with half of it being a lion and the other a snake. There was a foot note at the bottom of the letter, which read "tap the one half of the crest with your wand and it will change to the side you have tapped and tap it again to make it go back to the two crests."
Lavender did as the letter said and tapped her wand on the side of the lion and in a flash, there was just the lion. Lavender walked out of the room and went down the stairs. As she got down, she could hear voices of the other Gryffindor students. Lavender entered the common and saw that there were a few students here and there talking with one another. She decided to go to the Great Hall to eat and see if Remus was there. As she entered, she saw Remus at the Gryffindor table looking at the plates of food.
"Hey Remus. How was your first night" lavender asked as she sat down next to him.
He replied "it was ok, but sadly my roommates are James Potter, Sirius Black, and the other boy Peter Pettigrew. I was lucky enough for that they didn't bother me, but they are so loud. So why didn't I see you last night?"
"I had a bit of a problem" lavender replied.
"What kind of trouble?"
"Well, it had to do with the House test that we took."
"What? Did you get a different house? Wait why you would get a different House if you were wearing the Gryffindor colors."
"But that is sort of the problem. I was put into two Houses. Slytherin and Gryffindor. But please don't tell anyone."
"Of course, I wouldn't tell anyone. Because both Houses might like to disown you or something."
"So, what are you excited for?"
"I don't know. Maybe herbology. You?"
"Either potions or astrology this year."
"Wow. I wasn't expecting that. Oh no. Here comes James, Sirius, and Peter."
Lavender looked over to the entrance and saw the group sit down and started to talk with one another. She rolled her eyes and turned back to Remus.
"Aren't you hungry" lavender asked?
"Well, I just don't know what I would like to eat. So many options." Remus replied.
"I know what you mean. I might just have toast though. What some?"
"Sure"
They continued to chat with one another. At some point a lot of the students started to trickle in.
"Look the mail are here" someone from the Ravenclaw table shouted.
Everyone looked up to see that so many owls flooded the Great Hall holding many various size packages. Lavender saw her barn owl fly in and landed next to her dropping about three letters. She picked up the letters and saw that they were from her parents, her siblings, and her uncle. She frowned at the thought of her uncle sending letters already. She felt something peck her and saw that her owl still hasn't left.
"Alright. Alright. Here" she said handing a small piece of sausage. Sapien took it and flew away. "Greedy bird."
"What did you get" Remus asked?
"Just letters that I'll look at later."
Remus was about to reply, but someone interrupted her "wow I got the new book about Quidditch."
Lavender looked over to see that it was James who was being loud. She could hear Sirius and Peter oh, and aw at James's gift.
"I don't really see the importance of a book about Quidditch." Lavender said to herself.
But it wasn't enough because James heard and replied, "I was able to get the newer version about it and everyone would be dyeing to get their hands on it."
"Well, I think there is more important things then that sport."
"More important? Like what"
"School, getting great grade."
"You are just jealous that you don't have a copy."
"I could care less. And besides I have other preferences of the type of books I would get."
"Well, no one- "James's statement was interrupted when a bell rang.
"Well time to go to class. I need to get my books Remus. See you in class." lavender said as she got up and went to her dorm to grab her books for Herbology and started too head to class.
