A/N: The actor who plays Philip Donovan (the last main OC for this story, at least) is Leo Howard. Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be the actor who portrays Brad Donovan. One thing that I'll try and do in this story is show how Jason interacts with his old and new family. Especially after Kreese shows up at the Cobra Kai dojo.
Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.
Jason had managed to get a good night's sleep, despite everything that had gone on yesterday. Winning the boy's All-Valley tournament and meeting Lindsay for the first time in seven or eight years had been fairly exhausting
He sits up in his bed before getting out from under the covers.
Jason remakes his bed because he's going to be spending the next five days from tomorrow at Hawk's house.
But he couldn't get ahead of himself.
Having a shower, getting dressed and having something to eat for breakfast were all things to do.
In addition to having lunch with Lindsay and his new family.
Jason takes a pair of black jeans, a Pantera t-shirt, a studded belt, socks, a denim jacket and underwear from his wardrobe and takes a towel before walking over to the bathroom.
He has a shower before drying off and getting dressed.
Jason leaves the towel somewhere to dry after leaving the bathroom.
He gets his wallet, phone and keys from his room before heading downstairs.
Jason turns on his phone and sees messages from Miguel, Claire, Aisha, Leonard, Hawk and Demetri.
He also sees messages from Robby and Sam, even though he wasn't expecting either of them to text him so soon after the All-Valley.
Jason replies to the different messages before eventually going to put on his shoes.
He had done some shopping last week, but most of the food in the house was gone.
Which mean that he could either order in or go out and eat breakfast somewhere.
Jason decides to order in because he might not have time to go out for breakfast and make it back before Lindsay and his new stepfamily pick him up for lunch.
He takes out his phone and dials a number for a restaurant that he knows delivers food.
Jason goes and sits down on the sofa before turning on the TV.
He flicks through the channels as he settles on something to watch.
There is a knock on the door about fifteen to thirty minutes later.
Jason goes to open the door.
He opens the door and sees a delivery person standing in front of him with a pizza box.
"Here's your pizza." The delivery person says.
Jason takes the box and hands the delivery person money to pay for it along with a tip. "Thanks."
"Enjoy." The delivery person walks back to his car.
Jason closes the door and carries the pizza box to where the sofa is.
He sits down on the sofa.
Jason opens the pizza box and takes out a slice of pizza. It was a pepperoni pizza with extra pepperoni. And it was cut into eight slices.
He turns on the TV.
Jason eats the first slice of pizza as he flicks through the different channels.
He settles on a channel and sees a commercial for LaRusso Auto.
Jason turns the TV off almost immediately and places the remote on the table in front of the TV.
He gradually eats the rest of the pizza after eating the first slice.
Jason gets up and puts the empty box in the trash when he's finished eating.
He grabs a soda out of the fridge and opens it before taking a drink.
There's still time before lunch and the arrival of Lindsay and the rest of her new family at the house to pick him up.
He has his laptop and speakers in a room he's designated as the "den" of the house in addition to the basement.
Jason contemplates going into the den before he ultimately decides against it.
Lindsay would be arriving at the house with the other members of his new family at any moment.
And there was a part of him that really wanted to make a good first impression.
It wasn't particularly logical, but he didn't really care.
He heard a knock on the door before he heard the doorbell ringing.
Jason walked over to the door and opened it.
He saw Lindsay standing on the doorstep.
An SUV is parked across from his house. It looks like a Mercedez.
"So, are you ready to go?" Lindsay asks.
Jason nods. "Yeah. I'm going to the Cobra Kai victory party later, but there's some stuff I have to do before then. So, I'd like to just get this over with."
"That's perfectly understandable. I'm not expecting you to trust me right away, but I'm willing to make the effort if you are." Lindsay says.
Jason agrees. "Yeah. You're the closest thing to family that I've got. Apart from Evelyn."
"I have gotten in touch with Evelyn. I did regret that I didn't really stay in touch with her between when you were born and when your father was arrested. But I don't regret that I had no interaction with your grandfather. Because your father became the person he is as a result of his shitty parenting." Lindsay answers.
Jason almost wants to tell her that John Kreese is still alive, but he decides against it because it would just make things more complicated.
He changes the subject. "So, are we ready to go?"
"I think so." Lindsay replies.
Jason closes the door and follows Lindsay to the SUV that was parked across from the house.
He watches as Lindsay opens the door and gets into the passenger's seat.
Jason opens one of the back doors and takes an empty seat next to Philip. He puts on his seatbelt before Brad starts the SUV and turns the radio on.
He sits back in his seat they drive off.
Having an actual family was going to take some getting used to.
Especially because he didn't exactly have a family for half of his life.
….
Brad parks the SUV outside of a Mexican restaurant.
Jason watches as Brad and Lindsay unbuckle their seatbelts and get out of the SUV.
"Are you guys getting out?" Brad opens the door and leans in slightly.
Jason and Philip look at each other and nod. "Yeah."
Philip unbuckles his seatbelt and opens the left passenger door of the SUV before getting out.
Jason unbuckles his seatbelt and follows Philip out of the SUV.
Brad and Lindsay decide to walk on ahead while Jason and Philip follow closely behind them.
They open the door of the door of the restaurant and walk in.
The restaurant looks fairly busy.
They wait for a table to open up.
Five to ten minutes go by as they're waiting.
"Have you been waiting long? I'll show you to your tables now." A waitress walks over to them with menus in her hands.
Brad shakes his head. "We haven't been waiting too long. But thanks."
They follow the waitress over to two tables.
Brad and Lindsay sit down at one table while Jason and Philip sit down at the other table.
"I'll be back to take your orders. So, there's no rush." The waitress says.
Lindsay and Brad both look at the waitress and nod.
Jason and Philip have started looking through the menu.
He leans forward in his chair slightly. "So, how have you been finding the Valley so far?"
"It's pretty cool. Even if things are kind of different to what they were in Denver. Are there any good dojos and stuff in the Valley?" Philip is still looking through the menu.
Jason smiles. "Cobra Kai won the All-Valley. But there are other good dojos in the Valley."
"Didn't you beat all those other dojos?" Philip asks.
Jason nods. "Yeah. That's why we're champions. But you can still join any other dojo you want. Or you can join Cobra Kai."
"I think I'll join a different dojo. Cobra Kai is probably more your thing. And I wouldn't want to impose or anything like that." Philip says.
Jason understands. "That makes sense. You kind of want to find your own way in the Valley and not be tied down."
"Pretty much." Philip agrees.
Jason looks at the menu. "So, did you do your finals in your high school in Denver?"
"Yeah. Which means that I've got a week to adjust to everything." Philip answers.
Jason has more or less picked what he's going to order. "Good luck. But I'm sure you'll be fine."
"So, have you decided what you're going to order?" The waitress who showed them to their tables had made her way back over to them.
The waitress asks Brad and Lindsay what they're going to order before asking Jason and Philip what they're going to order.
Brad orders pulled pork tacos with salsa and Lindsay orders chicken tacos with salsa. They both order sparkling water. Because Brad is driving and they're not the sort of people who drink alcohol in the middle of the afternoon.
Jason and Philip order beef tacos with salsa. They also order a Coke.
The waitress takes their menus and walks away.
Jason and Philip resume their conversation after the waitress walks away.
He leans back in his chair slightly. "Did you have a girlfriend back in Denver?"
"Yeah. We'd decided to end things before I left. Mainly because we both knew that a long-distance relationship wasn't going to work. Especially not if I'm going to be in the Valley for the foreseeable future." Philip replies.
Jason laughs. "The Valley is "Hot Girl Central," dude."
"Oh. Cool. So, will you be showing me around the Valley when finals are over?" Philip asks.
Jason shrugs. "I suppose I should. I wouldn't want you getting lost."
"That would be pretty bad. And, I want to prove that I can stand on my own two feet. Like you." Philip replies.
The waitress brings over their drinks and puts their drinks in front of them before putting Brad's and Lindsay's drinks in front of them.
Jason nods. "Yeah. Well, Mom and Brad might not necessarily approve if you went and got your own house or apartment. And it's not like you've got the money."
"Yeah. They did make an offer for you to move in with us." Philip says.
Jason takes a sip of his drink. "I know. But I don't really want to give up my independence. Hopefully they'll understand."
They keep talking until their food arrives.
Brad and Lindsay are busy having a conversation of their own while their conversation is still ongoing.
They eat their respective meals in relative silence, pausing between mouthfuls to talk.
The waitress comes by to check if everything is okay with the meal.
They tell her that everything is okay with the meal and she walks to a different table.
It doesn't take that long for them to finish their meal and their drinks.
The same waitress from before takes the empty plates.
Brad pays for the meal and they make their exit.
It's a short walk back to the SUV.
Brad unlocks the vehicle.
Lindsay opens the door and gets into the front passenger seat while Philip opens a door and gets back to his seat.
This gives Brad enough time to talk to Jason.
"Listen, I know you had a talk with Lindsay about it, but…. I just want you to know that our door is always open if you ever change mind about moving in with us." Brad says.
Jason smiles. "Thanks. I'm happy with how things are now, though."
"Alright." Brad opens the door and gets into the driver's seat of the SUV.
Jason opens the far door and gets into the SUV.
Brad drives off after everybody puts on their seatbelt.
There's still time for Jason to get some bits and pieces at the house before he drives over to Hawk's house.
Which meant that lunch with Lindsay, Brad and Philip didn't take all that long.
….
The SUV comes to a complete stop near the driveway of Jason's house.
"I guess we'll be seeing you when your finals are done?" Brad asks.
Jason smiles. "Yeah."
"Good. Just remember our talk from earlier. Lindsay and I are there if you need support. And if you change your mind about living with us." Brad says.
Jason nods. "Cool. See you later."
He unbuckles his seatbelt and gets out of the SUV before he closes the door.
Lindsay and Philip wave at him as Brad starts the SUV.
Jason watches as they drive off before walking up
He walks over to the front door of his house and opens it.
Jason goes upstairs to get his phone charger and put in his sports bag.
He puts his backpack on his back and carries his sports bag before walking downstairs.
Jason opens the front door of his house and takes a few steps outside.
He closes the door behind him after making sure that he has everything.
Jason unlocks the Dodge Viper and puts his backpack and sports bag on the back seats of the car.
He gets into the driver's seat and puts the key in the ignition before driving off.
It shouldn't take him too long to drive over to Hawk's house.
Even if he does stop to get some gas on the way.
….
Jason parks the Dodge Viper near the driveway of Hawk's house.
He gets out of the Dodge Viper after taking off his seatbelt.
Jason opens a backdoor and takes his backpack and sports bag out of the car.
He carries his backpack in one arm and his sports bag in the other arm as he walks up the driveway of Hawk's house.
Jason gets to the front door of Hawk's house and puts down his backpack and sports bag.
He knocks on the door and takes a step back.
The door opens and he sees Hawk standing in front of him.
"Hey, Jason. I wasn't quite sure when you were going to get here. Mom's already set up the spare room for you, so you can put your stuff there. Demetri's downstairs in the basement. We'll hang out for a bit and then get an Uber to the victory party." Hawk says.
Jason grins. "Cool. Would you mind showing me where the spare room is?"
"Sure." Hawk replies.
Jason grabs his backpack and sports bag before following Hawk into the house.
He closes the door after them when they get inside.
Jason follows Hawk through the hall and up the stairs.
He has a look around. "So, where exactly is the spare room?"
"Just follow me." Hawk answers.
Jason follows Hawk to the spare room.
Hawk opens the door for him.
Jason watches as Hawk walks down the hall towards the stairs. "I'll get settled in and head to the basement when I'm done."
"Cool. We'll be in the basement." Hawk answers.
It doesn't take too long for Jason to put his backpack and sports bag in the room and unpack a pair of pyjamas, his phone charger and toiletry bag.
He walks out of the room and leaves the door partially closed behind him.
It's a short walk from the spare room to the stairs.
Jason walks down the stairs and heads to the basement.
He sees Hawk and Demetri sitting on the sofa in the basement.
Jason sits down between them. "You guys looking forward to the victory party tonight?"
"For sure. But there's something I kind of want you to settle." Hawk says.
Jason looks surprised. "Oh. What's that?"
"Demetri thinks you were holding back against Robby and Miguel." Hawk replies.
Jason thinks about that statement. "Well, I was kind of holding back a little bit. But I still won."
"Thanks for the clarification, I guess. Seeing you win the All Valley almost makes me want to do karate again. As long as your Sensei doesn't make physical contact with me." Demetri says.
Jason laughs. "Dude. You're the one who questioned his methods."
"I didn't expect him to hit me! And you should be able to question his methods!" Demetri argues.
Jason rolls his eyes. "Why would I question his methods if they work? I'm an All-Valley champion because of his methods. So, don't knock them. Alright?"
"How was your lunch with your mom, stepdad and stepbrother?" Hawk changes the subject.
Jason scratches his head. "It went better than I thought it was going to go. Mom and Brad both said that there was space in their house for me if I ever wanted to move in with them. I told them that I'm happy where I am. Their door is always open if I ever change my mind, though."
"Does your stepbrother do any sports? Like karate? I think you might have said that he did." Hawk asks.
Jason nods. "Philip did karate back in Denver. And, he's going to join a dojo here."
"Cool. You didn't try and get him to join Cobra Kai?" Hawk wonders.
Jason shakes his head. "I don't know. He kind of wants to do his own thing. Which is fine."
"Does that mean he's joining Miyagi-Do? Or some other dojo in the Valley?" Hawk asks.
Jason thinks about it. "I wouldn't mind if Philip joins Miyagi-Do. Why would I?"
"Good point. I don't think Miyagi-Do is competition for Cobra Kai yet. Plus, Claire's known Robby more than she's known any of us. That includes me and Demetri, by the way. Just in case you were wondering." Hawk answers.
Jason almost questions that statement before realising that it makes sense. "Sensei is Claire's godfather, so it makes sense that she'd know Robby longer than you guys. Or me, for that matter. Did you guys already know that Robby is Sensei's son? Or is that a new thing for you?"
"Seriously?! How did you know that? Did you ask him or was it just a lucky guess? Or a hunch?" Hawk looks shocked.
Jason smiles slightly. "It was kind of a hunch. Plus, Sensei talked to Robby and Mr LaRusso after I got the trophy. So, it was kind of obvious. He wouldn't have had any reason to talk to Robby otherwise."
"Are you guys going to keep talking?" Demetri asks.
Jason and Hawk look at each other before shaking their heads. "Uh. No."
"Great." Demetri says.
Jason and Hawk watch as Demetri turns on the TV before turning on a video game console and handing them controllers.
There's still time before their Uber gets to the house.
The victory party was definitely something they were looking forward to.
Even Demetri was looking forward to it.
