Chapter 8:
The farm work continues, but then they get a surprise visit. "It's the Raven," says Skip.
"Greetings," says Raven.
"Whatever it is, we don't want any," says Skip.
"Friends, I've merely come to talk," says Raven.
"This better be about giving up," says April.
"Summon your ghost," says Raven.
"Yeah, how's that work," asks Fibber, "you say his name three times or something…" The Raven hits him.
Mudsy and Boo appear. "You rang," asks Mudsy.
"Mr. Muddlemore, what were you doing in that clock," asks Raven.
"I was trying to protect my cat," says Mudsy.
"Or were you hiding," asks Raven.
"What do you mean," asks April.
"He didn't even fight in the war," says Raven, "that clock was enchanted! It punishes those who would desert their comrades! He hid in it like a coward instead of helping his fellow minute men!"
"Curses," asks Skip, "they don't even exist!"
"Neither do ghosts," says Raven.
"He's lying… isn't he, Mudsy," asks April.
Mudsy doesn't answer.
"Think about it," says Raven, "he was stuck in that clock since the 1770's! His spirit couldn't even get out unless someone fixed the time! Is it just me or does anyone else think that makes no sense? A cursed clock is literally the only way it could make sense!"
"It makes sense to me," says Fibber.
Mudsy looks down.
"Why don't you go fly away," asks Skip.
"So, you still would rather believe the dead man," asks Raven, "then maybe he should say something! Tell me I'm lying!"
Mudsy still doesn't answer and instead, he leaves.
"Mudsy," asks April.
"That's right," says Raven, "abandon your troops again! You're no war hero! You're just a coward!" And Mudsy was gone.
