Chapter Five: Saturday Night Pillow Fight
''We'd better hurry , or we'll miss the pillow fight'' ! ; Nan exclaimed as she , Rosie , and Bess hurried down the hallway with their pillows. Just watch out for Dan , Rosie !; Bess exclaimed. Why , Bess ? ; Rosie asked. Because Dan hits like a mule , that's why !; Bess laughed. I'll remember that , Bess ! ; Rosie exclaimed as they opened the door to the boy's bedroom. And maybe Dan''ll be the one that gets hit with a pillow ! ; Nan laughed. Seeing them walk in from behind the door , Dan laughed to himself and fired a pillow that hit Bess square in the back.
Well , I guess the pillow fight's started ! ; Nan laughed , firing a pillow at Nat , much to his amusement. I'm going to get you , Dan Maddison ! ; Bess exclaimed , tossing a pillow at Dan. C'mon , Rosie , toss a pillow at her ! ; Dan laughed. Look out , Bess ! ; Rosie laughed , firing a pillow and hitting Bess square in the face. Rosie Donnell ! ; Bess laughed , shooting a pillow in Rosie's direction. C'mon , Mike , get somebody with that thing! ; Dan exclaimed. Okay , here goes , Dan ! ; Michael exclaimed , firing a pillow at Emil. Gotcha , Mike ! ; Emil exclaimed , firing a pillow back that caught Mike square in the face.
Seeing an opportunity , Rosie fired a pillow that hit Dan square in the back. Turning around to see who fired the pillow at him , Dan laughed and fired a pillow back at Rosie. Laughing , Rosie threw the pillow at Michael , and said ; ''Well , Bess warned me that you hit like a mule , Dan'' ; Rosie said. Oh , did she now , Rosie ? ; Dan said , flashing a mischievious grin at Rosie as he tossed a pillow at Bess. You hit pretty hard yourself , Rosie ; Dan said. Thanks for the compliment , Dan! ; Rosie laughed. You're welcome , Rosie ; Dan exclaimed , flashing Rosie a cheerful smile.
Watching her boys and girls going at it with their pillows from the doorway , Mrs. Jo laughed to herself. Time's up , everyone ! ; Mrs. Jo called as she walked into the room. Okay , Mrs. Jo ! ; Dan laughed , out of breath from the excitement. That was fun ! ; Rosie laughed. I'm glad you had fun , Rosie ! ; Nan laughed. Me too , Rosie ; Bess added laughing. I had a lot of fun , too ; Michael said. Thanks , Dan ; he added. I'm glad you enjoyed it , Mike ; Dan replied , smiling at his new friend. Well , Michael , did you and Rosie enjoy your first pillow fight ? ; Mrs. Jo asked , smiling at them.
We sure did , Mrs. Jo ! ; Michael laughed. That was the most fun I've had in a long time , Mrs. Jo ! ; Rosie laughed. I'm glad you both had fun , Rosie ; Mrs. Jo replied. Time for bed , everyone ; Mrs. Jo said , smiling at them all. Okay , Mrs. Jo ; Dan said , smiling back at her. Goodnight , everyone ; Mrs. Jo said. Goodnight , Mrs. Jo ; Dan said. Goodnight , Aunt Jo ; Bess said. Goddnight , Mrs. Jo ; Nan said. Goodnight , Mrs. Jo ; Rosie said as she , Bess , and Nan headed for their room. Goodnight , girls ; Mrs. Jo called. Goodnight , Mrs. Jo ; Nat and Emil said. Goodnight , Mrs. Jo ; Michael said , flashing her a smile so like Dan's Mrs. Jo could'nt help but notice.
Goodnight , everyone ; Mrs. Jo said as she closed the door. Would blow out the lamp for us , Dan ? ; Nat asked as he and the other boys climbed into bed. Sure , Nat ; Dan said , blowing out the lamp and climbing into his bed. So , you sorry you came to Plumfield , Mike ? ; Dan whispered in the dark. Not for one minute , Dan ; Michael whispered back. I like it here ; Michael added. Goodnight , Mike ; Dan said. Goodnight , Nat ; Dan whispered. Goodnight , Dan ; they both whispered back.
