The Titans East were no staying long. But they were not leaving without a proper goodbye. The tower was a flurry of activity as preparations were made for Bumblebee's goodbye party.
Mas and Menos were helping Beastboy to decorate the main room, Aqualad, Starfire and Speedy were all at the store grabbing final food items needed. Cyborg was in the kitchen with Bumblebee prepping the food they could.
Raven was taking this moment to meditate and find calm before the storm. As soon as the others arrived, she knew she would get pulled in to prep food or clean, but for now she was enjoying the small moment of peace.
That's where Robin found her. She sat on the edge of the roof, one leg swinging idly over the edge. One knee up with her arm draped over. She leaned back on her arm watching the sun glint off the water. A slight smile on her face.
It was odd for him to see her this relaxed. She had always been calm, been the rock to center everyone on the team. But this was different. This was more open. He had always been able to draw this out of her, eventually. But seeing her do this without anyone coxing was disconcerting.
Robin didn't like change. He liked things to work they way they always had. He knew what to expect then. This Raven, he didn't know what to do. And yet a part of him enjoyed seeing her so relaxed. She seemed happier and really what else really mattered. He stood in limbo, wanting to join her as he would have done a million times prior, and yet not wanting to disturb the moment for her.
Before he could decide, Raven turned and looked at him over her shoulder. "Are you going to join me? Or just stand there?"
Robin startled ever so slightly. He gave her a slightly guilty smile and rubbed the back of his neck. He had missed that. The fact that she just knew he was there without ever looking. And for the first time since she had been home, a bit of that normalcy slipped back into place. He chuckled, "Sorry, Rae. I didn't want to disturb you."
She shrugged and shifted position. Leaning forward to rest her chin on her knee. She gestured for him to join her. "You aren't. I was just enjoying the peace and quiet until the others get back."
Robin smiled and came to sit next to her. This was what he had missed. This serenity, and the easy silences the two could share. No forced conversations, no need for words. They could just be. Raven continued to watch the water ahead of her. For the first time in months, Robin felt like he could breathe again. Despite the changes, this had remained the same.
Her voice broke into his thoughts, "I missed this."
He watched her, "What?"
She tilted her head to the side to look at him and yet still keeping her relaxed position. Her features softened, "This. Sitting out in the sun, watching the water," she turned again and he could feel the slight hesitation in her voice, "Enjoying it with you."
He was grateful for the mask that covered his eyes, knowing he would have been hard pressed to cover the surprise in them. He debated his response for just a second. He wanted to delve into just what she meant, into why she had missed him, but in the end he settled for a simple and truthful answer. He turned to look at the water, "I did too."
And with that the two settled into a comfortable silence.
It was fifteen minutes later however that Raven lifted her head and glanced towards the entrance. She sighed, stood up and stretched. Robin watched the graceful way in which she moved. Her movements natural and fluid.
"Guess that's all the rest I get. The others are back. I better get down there and help Cy."
He moved to get up, but she placed a hand on his shoulder, "Sit for a few minutes. They don't need all of us at once. One of us may as well be able to relax before the chaos." She gave the shoulder a gentle squeeze, and headed towards the main room.
At the touch, Robin stilled. It was so casual, that from anyone else it would have gone unnoticed. But Raven did not touch to touch. He stilled at the touch, at the warmth of her palm. And that's when he realized that those little changes my not just extend to the East team. And all of a sudden, not all change was such a bad thing.
