Double Date

Robin didn't know what he came up with this idea. He had been playing things by ear after tracking down the mercenary who'd done so much for Ylisse, and he wanted to do something to thank her. He also wanted to do something that would help Chrom and Sumia settle their worries before the wedding.

The issue was that the ideas came together to put him and 'Marth' opposite each other at a booth in a tavern, occasionally glancing over to see Chrom and Sumia lost in each other's eyes, occasionally with Chrom mumbling something about how Sumia's cooking was even better than anything here.

Marth looked over at Robin.

"Is… this what people normally do here?"

"I don't know. I'm a bit new to things too. I just thought that, with the war over…"

"For now."

"For now, that we could learn what people normally do. I'm surprised you don't have more experience here than I do. You seemed to have a pretty good grasp of how to handle Feroxi winters."

"Well, I had some experience with that. Less with… well, peacetime."

Robin smiled.

"Well, I guess that's how it goes when you're a mercenary. Gregor tells me he had some of the same trouble a few times over his career. Well, if I understood him right."

"Gregor doesn't always say things in the most straightforward way, I'll admit."

Robin raised an eyebrow.

"You know Gregor? He never mentioned you."

"Well, ah, that's… how is this apple pie they have here?"

"I don't know. As I said, I'm newer at this than you are. Or at least, as far as I can remember. But you probably heard about that already."

"I didn't!"

"Ah. Well, it's not much to say. When Chrom found me, I couldn't remember much other than my name. I don't know where I came from, or my history. I just knew strategy. I'm lucky I found good people to take me in. Even if…"

Robin glanced over. Sumia was mouthing something like 'snookums'. Robin winced. He hoped this would be a short-lived phase of the relationship.

"Even if they can be a bit much."

"Imagine if you had to live with them."

"I feel the deepest pity for their children."

Marth smiled.

"Thank you for your concern. I… imagine it would still be a good upbringing."

"Oh, I agree. But I don't want to deal with it now. Do you want to wait for your meal outside? There's a lovely sky tonight."

"Do… do you think they would mind? I would hate to disappoint them…"

"I think they're in their own world. Come on."

And Marth followed him outside. Together, they looked up at the stars.

Robin didn't know why he came up with the idea. He just knew he didn't regret it.
