The Slumbering Snorlax and the Selfish Princess
Lincoln and his friends are continuing on their journey to Cyllage City where Lincoln's next gym battle awaits him; right now, Lincoln is facing a girl who pulls a pokeball out from her waist.
"Sentret, go!" said the girl, throwing a pokeball and releasing a brown pokemon with long, dark brown ears, a white ring on its belly, and a striped tail. Tierno pulls out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Sentret, the Scout Pokemon. When acting as a lookout, it warns others of danger by screeching and hitting the ground with its tail." said Tierno's pokedex.
"Let's go, Riolu!" said Lincoln, throwing a pokeball and releasing Riolu.
"Use Quick Attack!" Lincoln and Sentret's trainer say in unison. Riolu and Sentret charge at each other with incredible speed and ram each other, sending them back, but they land on their feet.
"Riolu, Feint!" said Lincoln. Riolu disppears; Sentret stands on its tail and looks around. Riolu appears in front of Sentret and sweeps its tail, making it fall to the ground, and dealing damage.
"Sentret, Fury Swipes!" said Sentret's trainer. Sentret leaps at Riolu and repeatedly scratches him, damaging him.
"Sentret, Counter!" said Lincoln. Riolu becomes surrounded by an orange aura and he punches Sentret, dealing super effective damage; Sentret gets sent flying back and lands near its trainer with swirly eyes.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" cheered Shauna.
"Well done." said Trevor. Lincoln smiles in response ; Sentret's trainer returns Sentret to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Sentret." said Sentret's trainer. She puts Sentret's pokeball away and walks to Lincoln. "That was a good battle."
"Thank you." replied Lincoln. Sentret's trainer gives Lincoln pokedollars and walks towards the direction to Camphrier Town. Lincoln returns Riolu to his pokeball. "Let's get going." His friends nod in response and they continue walking down Route 7; they soon came to the bridge they saw earlier. On the bridge was the same Pokemon that the group saw earlier, still sleeping.
"Is that Pokemon still there?" asked Serena. She takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokemon. It is not satisfied unless it eats over 880 pounds of food every day. When it is done eating, it goes promptly to sleep." said Serena's pokedex.
"I hope that Snorlax won't be sleeping for too long." said Trevor. "We need to cross this bridge to continue to Cyllage City." Lincoln walks to the Snorlax and begins shaking its shoulder.
"Excuse us, Snorlax, but do you mind sleeping somewhere else?" asked Lincoln.
"Yeah; we need to get through here." said Shauna, tapping Snorlax's side.
"Hey, wake up!" Tierno yells into Snorlax's ear. The group tried for several minutes to wake up Snorlax, but were unsuccessful.
"What does it take to wake this Pokemon up?" asked Serena.
"Excuse me, but you won't be able to wake up Snorlax that way." said a woman nearby.
"Is there a way to." asked Shauna.
"You'll need a PokeFlute." said the woman.
"What's that?" asked Tierno.
"It's a musical instrument used to awaken Snorlaxes." said the woman.
"Where can we find one?" asked Serena.
"At Shabboneau Castle." said the woman.
"We should see if we can borrow it." said Lincoln.
"Let's go see." said Serena.
The group heads back to Camphrier Town and make their way towards Shabboneau Castle; when they arrive, they enter, only to be met with a man who appears to be a butler.
"May I help you children?" asked the man.
"We were told that there was a PokeFlute here." said Lincoln.
"There is, indeed." said the man.
"Well, we kind of need to borrow it for a little while." said Shauna.
"There's a Snorlax sleeping on the bridge to the west of town and we need the PokeFlute to wake it up so we can get across." said Serena.
"I see." said the man. "You will need to ask King Shabboneau for permission."
"Can we talk to him?" asked Trevor.
"Certainly." said the man. "Follow me." The group follow the man until they reach a throne room where they see a man, wearing kingly attire, including crown and cape, sitting on a throne; he stands up when he notices Lincoln's group enter.
"Ahhh; visitors." said the kingly man. "Greetings, my name is Lord Shabboneau."
"Hello." said Lincoln. "My name is Lincoln."
"My name is Serena." said Serena.
"I'm Shauna." said Shauna.
"I'm Tierno." said Tierno.
"And my name is Trevor." said Trevor.
"It is nice to meet you." said the man now known as Lord Shabboneau. "What brings you to my home?"
"We were hoping to borrow your PokeFlute." said Lincoln before he tells Lord Shabboneau the situation regarding the Snorlax on the bridge.
"I see." said Lord Shabboneau. "I would be glad to loan you the PokeFlute to help you with your problem."
"Really?" asked Lincoln.
"Thank you, sir." said Serena.
"I would, but I no longer have it in my possession." said Lord Shabboneau.
"Well, who does?" asked Shauna.
"Princess Allie of Parfum Palace." replied Lord Shabboneau. "You see, she came by my castle one day and saw the PokeFlute in its display case; she thought it looked pretty and took it without asking."
"Did you ever try getting it back?" asked Shauna.
"I would; but I'm on good relations with the princess's father." said Lord Shabboneau.
"Then we'll go get it back ourselves." said Lincoln.
"Yeah!" said the rest of the group.
"Where is this Parfum Palace?" asked Lincoln.
"It's north past the rows of trees on Route 6." said Lord Shabboneau.
"I think he means that fancy-looking palace we saw while we were looking for that Honedge earlier." said Serena.
"Well, let's head over there then." said Lincoln.
The group exits Shabboneau Castle and make their way over to Route 6 and head up the road until they reach Parfum Palace; once there, they enter the front gate and look around at how extravagant the palace looked.
"This place is so amazing!" said Shauna.
"Lola would love to live in this place." Lincoln says with a sad face as he thinks about his pageant-loving little sister. Just then, a poodlelike Pokemon, with magenta forelegs, collar of fur around its neck, ear tips, ball-like tail, and on the front of the fur on its head, comes running over to them.
"What's that?" asked Serena as she points her pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Furfrou, the Poodle Pokemon. Trimming its fluffy fur not only makes it more elegant but also increases the swiftness of its movements." said Serena's pokedex.
"Why does this one look different from the picture on your pokedex?" asked Lincoln.
"Lots of people style their Furfrou's fur." said Shauna. "There's a salon in Lumiose City for them." Just then, two maids come out, throwing rose petals onto the ground, leaving a path of them; walking on them was a little girl with red hair, wearing a tiara, magenta dress with a yellow bow and pink heart on it, light pink gloves that reach her elbows, dark red knee-high boots with green orbs and yellow bows.
"What are you doing, Furfrou?" the girl asked the Furfrou; she then notices Lincoln's group. "Why are you interacting with these commoners?"
"Are you Princess Allie?" asked Lincoln, getting the girl's attention.
"I am." said the girl, now identified as Princess Allie. "The most beautiful girl in the Kalos region."
'She really reminds me of Lola.' Lincoln thinks to himself.
"What do you commoners think you're doing, just walking into my home uninvited?" asked Princess Allie.
"We need to borrow the PokeFlute." said Shauna.
"No." Princess Allie replied as she looks away with a smug grin.
"Why not?!" asked Shauna.
"We need it to wake up that Snorlax on the bridge so we can cross it." said Trevor.
"And other people have to use that bridge, also." said Serena.
"Not my concern." said Princess Allie.
"How can you be so selfish?" asked Lincoln.
"Whatever I want, I get." said Princess Allie.
"Or steal in this case." said Lincoln.
"How dare you accuse me of being a common thief!" said Princess Allie.
"Hey, if you take something without asking, then you're a thief!" said Shauna.
"You dare talk to me in that tone?!" asked Princess Allie with a scowl.
'Since this girl is like Lola, I may know how to deal with her.' Lincoln thinks to himself.
"Let's just cut right to the chase; what's it gonna take for us to, at least, borrow the PokeFlute?" asked Lincoln, getting Princess Allie's attention.
"I might be willing to let you borrow it." said Princess Allie.
"Let me guess, there's one condition." said Lincoln.
"It's like you can read my mind." said Princess Allie.
"I grew up with a younger sister who reminds me of you, so I know how your mind works." said Lincoln.
"Oh, really?" asked Princess Allie as she glares at Lincoln. "Very well; a Pokemon battle."
"A battle?" Lincoln replied.
"Of course." said Princess Allile. "If you win, I'll let you borrow the PokeFlute; but if I win, then you have to stay here and be my servant."
"What?!" Shauna replied.
"That's the deal; take it or leave it." said Princess Allie.
"Lincoln, you don't have to do this." said Shauna.
"We'll come up with something." said Tierno.
"I don't really think we have any other options." said Lincoln.
"That's what I want to hear." said Princess Allie.
'If Lincoln loses, then he'll have to stay here with that little brat.' Shauna thinks to herself with an upset look on her face.
Later, in an outdoor battle arena, Lincoln and Princess Allie were standing across from one another.
"I do hope you put up some sort of a fight against my superior Furfrou, commoner." said Princess Allie.
"My name is Lincoln." said Lincoln.
"Doesn't matter to me." said Princess Allie. Her Furfrou runs out onto the battlefield and barks at Lincoln. He pulls a pokeball out from his waist.
"Riolu, go!" said Lincoln, throwing Riolu's pokeball and releasing him. "Riolu, use Quick Attack!" Riolu charges at Furfrou with incredible speed and rams it, dealing damage.
"How dare you; Furfrou, Tail Whip!" shouts Princess Allie. Furfrou runs at Riolu and hits him with its tail, weakening Riolu's defense.
"Riolu, Force Palm!" said Lincoln. Riolu runs to Rurfrou and thrusts his palm against it.
"How dare that Pokemon put its filthy hand on my Furfrou!" shouts Princess Allie. Her Furfrou suddenly begins to twitch.
"Furfrou's paralyzed." said Trevor.
"Furfrou, use Headbutt!" said Princess Allie. Furfrou fights through its paralysis and charges at Riolu, hitting him with its head, dealing damage, and making Riolu flinch; a surge of energy rises up from him.
"What's with Riou?" asked Shauna.
"His Steadfast ability." said Lincoln. "Since he flinched, his speed increases."
"Now use Tackle!" said Princess Allie. Furfrou fights through its paralysis again and rams into Riolu, damaging him.
"Riolu, use Counter!" said Lincoln. Riolu becomes surrounded by an orange aura and he punches Furfrou, dealing super effective damage; it falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"No!" shouts Princess Allie.
"All right, Lincoln!" cheered Tierno; Shauna lets out a sigh of relief. Lincoln runs to Riolu and hugs him.
"Great job, Riolu." said Lincoln. Riolu smiles before he begins to glow.
"Riolu's evolving." said Serena. Everyone watches as Riolu began to grow; when the glowing stopped, he was now a Lucario.
"He evolved into Lucario; this is awesome!" said Lincoln; he gets a notification on his pokedex. "And it looks like he just learned Aura Sphere."
"My poor Furfrou!" shouts Princess Allie.
"I won, so honor your part of the deal." said Lincoln.
"Fine! Give them the PokeFlute!" Princess Allie shouts to his maids. A few minutes later, Lincoln was holding the PokeFlute in his hands.
"Thank you." said Lincoln as he bows to Princess Allie.
"At least you have some poise." said Princess Allie. "Just take your barbaric Lucario and leave!"
"Let's go, everyone." said Lincoln as he and his friends exit the Parfum Palace grounds.
Minutes later, Lord Shabboneau and Lincoln's group were standing near the bridge that the Snorlax was lying on.
"Time to wake him up again." said Lord Shabboneau.
"Again?" asked Lincoln.
"This Snorlax comes around here once a year to eat the remnants of the berry bushes left behind after the annual harvest." said Lord Shabboneau. "When it does so, it prepares the land for the next crop." Lord Shabboneau puts the PokeFlute to his mouth and plays a melody on it; a few seconds later, the Snorlax gets up and walks off the bridge.
"It worked!" said Shauna.
"Thank you kids for retrieving the PokeFlute." said Lord Shabboneau.
"We were glad to help." said Lincoln.
"Now we can continue on towards Cyllage City." said Serena.
"You kids should stay for the fireworks show." said Lord Shabboneau.
"Fireworks?" asked Lincoln.
"Each year in recognition of our annual harvest, we have a firework show to celebrate." said Lord Shabboneau.
"Can we stay for it, Lincoln?" asked Shauna as she grabs Lincoln's hand, making him blush, and the others giggle, before she quickly lets go with a blush on her face.
"I can wait one more day." said Lincoln.
"Thanks!" said Shauna.
That night, Lincoln and his friends were sitting on a grassy hill overlooking Camphrier Town, watching the fireworks light up the night sky.
"Glad we stayed for this." said Tierno.
"I'm glad that Snorlax is off the bridge so we can cross it." said Trevor.
"I'm happy that Lincoln won and can stay with me." said Shauna.
"You mean 'us', right?" asked Serena.
"Uh.. y-y-yeah, of course." said Shauna as she blushes; she then scoots closer to Lincoln and rests her head on his shoulder, making him blush.
Lincoln and his friends have woken up the sleeping Snorlax and can continue on to Cyllage City. What else will Lincoln experience as his Kalos adventures continue?
