The next day showed up, and Tommy was finally at the doctor's office with Didi.

"I hope I don't have to keep staying on the couch, Mom. I hope the doctor says I can go back to school this week," Tommy told her.

"We'll see, Tommy."

The doctor now arrived in the office where Didi and Tommy were waiting.

"How are you today, Tommy?" the doctor asked.

"Fine," Tommy answered.

"I've been thinking about your accident you had a few days ago," the doctor began.

"And what did you come up with? I hope I don't have to keep staying on the couch. I don't feel comfortable there anymore," Tommy replied.

"All right. Here's what I thought about. You can sleep in your bedroom tonight."

"When I do get back to school?"

"I'd say in a few days from now."

"No crutches or anything?" Didi asked.

"No," the doctor said, "but I think Tommy looks okay without having them around. I did like how you stayed off that foot for a while, Tommy. I think that's all it needed was to have a break."

"That doesn't make sense. I just miss being around my friends at school."

"I understand. When I was your age, I did the same thing with the same leg but I didn't get back to school a couple weeks later," the doctor said.

"Good thing I didn't do that, right, Mom?"

"That's right, Tommy. You did well with following the doctor's orders."

While Tommy and Didi were at the doctor's office, Dil hung around with their friends at the house.

"What do you think the doctor would do with Tommy?" Chuckie asked.

"I don't know. I hope he gets to come back to school with us this week if the doctor says something about it," Dil answered.

"It just wasn't the same without Tommy this week," Lil replied.

"I know, Lil. I missed him too, even though he stayed on the couch this entire time without going to school and all of that junk," Dil said.

"I'm sure you did. Maybe we should stay here when Tommy and your mom come back so we can hear everything all at once," Kimi said.

"I'm hoping Tommy probably won't let that happen anymore in the future."

"No promises," Chuckie added.

"I thought I heard your mom drive in, Dil," Phil replied.

"I don't hear anything," he told Phil.

"I did."

Everybody else was quiet for a moment and see if Phil was right about hearing a car drive up in the garage.

"You must be hearing things, Phillip."

"I don't think so, Lillian. I know a car when I hear one."

"Don't fight about it, you guys," Chuckie told the twins.

"Chuckie's right. I don't want to have an argument if this is Tommy coming in," Dil told them.

They kept talking until the front door opened when Tommy walked in with Didi.

"How did it go with the doctor?" Dil asked as Tommy headed their way.

"Just fine, Dil," Didi answered.

"How come you're not on crutches, Tommy?" Chuckie asked.

"I don't need them."

"When do you go back to school?" Phil asked.

"In a few weeks," Tommy answered.

"We missed you this whole time."

"I missed you too, Kimi."

"I even helped out, remember?"

"Yes, Chuckie. This is what best friends do, right?"

"Yes," everybody said in unison.

"Now we can go back to having fun since this whole thing is over."

"I'll agree on that," Stu said, joining them all in the living room.

"How was the doctor's office, Didi?"

"It went pretty well. The doctor said Tommy doesn't need crutches and go back to his own bed starting tonight and school will start next week."

"That's great news, Tommy. Next time, be more careful."

"I will, Dad. No promises, right?"

"Just watch what happens, Tommy," Kimi said.

"I will, but I don't have plans to go back to that neighborhood anytime soon," Tommy told Chuckie.

"Good. Even my dad thought the neighborhood didn't look familiar when we first saw you when we drove by."

"I know. I shouldn't have gone there in the first place. I guess we can celebrate that there isn't any need for me to have crutches."

"We can do that by going out to dinner," Lil suggested.

"Maybe this weekend would be the best tome for that," Didi told her.

"I thought so. We're happy you're back to normal, Tommy."

"Me too," he agreed.
