"Hey, what's this 'Special Class' on our schedule?" Harry asked, frowning at his timetable.
Ron, busy stuffing his face with eggs, glanced up in confusion. "Special Class?" He swallowed and looked at his own schedule. "Dunno. Never heard of it before."
Hermione, who had been skimming through her own timetable, perked up. "Oh! The Special Class—I almost forgot about that. Silly me," she said, shaking her head. "That's the Soulmate Class."
Harry and Ron both turned to look at her.
"Soulmate Class?" Harry repeated, eyebrows raised.
Ron's face lit up in recognition. "Ohh! Bloody hell, yeah, I remember now. Mum mentioned something about it years ago, but I wasn't really paying attention."
"Wait a minute—what do you mean 'soulmates'?" Harry asked, still baffled.
Hermione sighed, clearly exasperated. "Harry, honestly. Soulmate marks? Everyone has them. By thirteen or fourteen, you get your platonic marks—family, close friends, people who will be important to you. Then at sixteen or seventeen, the romantic ones appear, if you have one."
Harry blinked. "And we need a whole class for that?"
"Of course!" Hermione huffed. "There's history, magical theory, how soulmate bonds work, and what happens if your soulmate is, well... difficult to find."
Ron scratched his head. "Yeah, I remember now. Mum said some people's marks don't show names, just symbols or words. And sometimes you can have more than one—" he cut off, looking at Harry's stunned face. "Mate, you look like I just told you You-Know-Who started baking pies."
Harry blinked again, glancing down at his wrist. He hadn't really thought about soulmates before. He had never noticed a mark on himself—had he just missed it? And what if… what if someone had his name on them?
As he looked back at his schedule, he suddenly felt nervous.
Did he really want to know the answer?
