Scene 1 – Afternoon, September 23, 1015 CE – New Berk Galleria

EXT. NEW BERK GALLERIA – DAY

The autumn sun hangs low, but the air still carries a faint summer warmth. The Galleria buzzes with villagers browsing booths filled with fall trinkets, seasonal pastries, and cozy clothes. Leaves tumble lazily from trees lining the plaza.

ASTRID (40), still fit and sharp-eyed, strolls through the market with her daughter, ZEPHYR (12, almost 13). Zephyr's in that awkward-not-quite-teenage phase — Stormfly plush no longer in hand, but sometimes still hidden in her satchel.

Zephyr's gaze suddenly lingers across the walkway. Standing with a small group of friends is KAI STORMBRAID (13), dark-haired and easygoing, chatting and laughing.

Kai glances Zephyr's way. For a moment, their eyes meet. He gives a polite, casual nod — nothing dramatic, but just enough. Then he turns back to his friends.

ZEPHYR
(whispers to herself, heart skipping)
He looked at me.

ASTRID, having noticed the interaction, raises an eyebrow with a sly smirk.

ASTRID
Who looked at you?

Zephyr blinks and glances away fast.

ZEPHYR
(confused voice, a little too casual)
Huh? What do you mean? No one. I think you heard the wind or something.

Astrid doesn't push — just smiles to herself as they keep walking.

ASTRID
(sarcastically, under her breath)
Mm-hmm. Must've been the wind… with very nice hair.

Zephyr blushes, but hides it behind a loud "Oooh look at those pastries!" as she bolts toward a booth.

Scene 2 – Evening, September 23, 1015 CE – Haddock Household

INT. HADDock DINING ROOM – EVENING

The family sits around a sturdy wooden table, soft lantern light flickering. Dinner is served — roasted fish, steamed vegetables, and bread. HICCUP (39 turning 40), ever the thoughtful dad, is mid-chew. ASTRID keeps an eye on the kids. NUFFINK (10), full of energy, devours his food with enthusiasm.

ZEPHYR pokes her food absentmindedly with her fork, barely eating. Her mind is clearly somewhere else — or on someone else.

ASTRID
(subtly)
Zeph, honey… you okay? You haven't even touched your fish.

Zephyr blinks, coming back to reality.

ZEPHYR
Huh? Oh. Yeah. Just… not that hungry, I guess.

Nuffink grins. Uh-oh.

NUFFINK
Or maybe you're too busy thinking about Kaaaai Stormbraid.

Zephyr immediately tenses up.

ZEPHYR
(quick and defensive)
I am not!

NUFFINK
(singsong)
You liiike him. You wanna maaarry him. "He looked at meeee."

ZEPHYR
(furious whisper)
I never said that!

Hiccup looks between them, bewildered.

HICCUP
Wait—what's going on?

Astrid smirks as she takes a sip of water.

ASTRID
Your son is taunting your daughter because she might have a little crush… on Kai Stormbraid.

Zephyr drops her fork with a clink and buries her face in her hands.

ASTRID
(to Zephyr)
You two were making eyes across the Galleria earlier. Don't think I didn't notice.

Hiccup leans back, eyebrows raised, stunned but amused.

HICCUP
(sighs dramatically)
First dragons… now boys?

Nuffink snickers louder.

NUFFINK
Pretty soon she'll be riding off into the sunset on a yak with hearts in her eyes!

ZEPHYR
(firm)
Keep it up and I will tell Grandma Valka about the time you fell in love with that talking carrot in your dream.

Nuffink gasps in horror.

NUFFINK
You said you'd never speak of that again!

ASTRID
(snickering)
Oh, I need to hear this one.

Zephyr smirks slightly — a small win — but the blush on her cheeks stays.

Scene 3 – Morning, September 24, 1015 CE – Zephyr's Room

INT. ZEPHYR'S ROOM – MORNING

Sunlight trickles through the wooden window slats. The room is neat but shows her age — drawings pinned to the wall, a few trinkets from the past, and a journal peeking out from under her pillow.

ASTRID stands behind ZEPHYR, gently brushing her daughter's thick auburn hair. Zephyr sits at the edge of her bed in her New Berk Training Academy attire — a blend of practicality and tradition.

ZEPHYR
(sighing)
He's so annoying lately.

ASTRID
(grinning)
Nuffink?

ZEPHYR
Obviously. He used to look up to me when we were little. When I hated dragons, so did Nuffink. Then I loved dragons, and so did he.
(pause)
Now… I have this…

ASTRID
(smiling knowingly)
Crush?

Zephyr blushes but tries to stay calm.

ZEPHYR
Well… that.
(sighs)
And Nuffink turns it into a joke like everything's funny.

ASTRID
(brushing gently)
That's because you're growing up, and so is he. Everything's changing — and sometimes little brothers don't quite know how to deal with it, so they act like goofs. It's what they do.

Zephyr doesn't respond, but her shoulders relax slightly.

ASTRID
You know… your dad? He had the biggest, most awkward crush on me back when we were fifteen. We were students at the Old Berk Dragon Training Academy. He was this scrawny, clumsy kid who couldn't swing an axe to save his life.

Zephyr turns her head slightly, interested.

ASTRID
I wasn't exactly nice to him at first. Not until the day he let me ride Toothless.
That's when I saw him — really saw him. Brave, kind, and different in the best way.
And I learned dragons weren't the monsters we thought.
Same day I realized I kind of liked your dad back.

ZEPHYR
(softly smiling)
Weird to think you were a kid once.

ASTRID
Oh, I was very dramatic. You get that from me.

They both chuckle. Astrid finishes brushing and gently places a simple, carved kransen (headband) onto Zephyr's head — a sign of New Berk girlhood.

ASTRID
It's okay to have a crush, Zeph. And for the record? Kai is kind of cute.

Zephyr flushes pink.

ZEPHYR
Mom!

Astrid laughs and kisses her daughter's cheek.

ASTRID
Go on. Try not to trip on the way out.

Zephyr grins and bolts up from the bed, full of nervous energy now.

ZEPHYR
Bye!

She dashes out of the room, footsteps fading as she leaves the house.

Scene 4 – Afternoon, September 24, 1015 CE – New Berk Training Academy Grounds

EXT. TRAINING FIELD – LATE AFTERNOON

The sky is starting to mellow into gold. A wide clearing near the Academy is bustling with young Viking trainees, most between 10 and 14, all geared up with padded tunics and wooden swords. FISHLEGS, now 39 and still as kind and enthusiastic as ever, oversees the class.

FISHLEGS
Alright, partners! Let's keep it clean, controlled, and coordinated! Remember — you're warriors, not wild yaks!

ZEPHYR pairs off with VIGGO, an intense, slightly younger boy with a wild mop of dark hair and a stubborn jaw. They face each other and raise their wooden blades.

VIGGO
(competitive)
Ready to lose again, Zephyr?

ZEPHYR
(smirking)
Only if you suddenly grow two feet and turn into Kai Stormbraid.

They begin fencing — footwork, parries, light taps. Zephyr is doing well, but a misstep sends her stumbling slightly backward. She flails her sword and falls on her rear in front of the group.

The nearby trainees pause for a breath, but no one laughs — until a teasing voice breaks the silence.

KAI
(chuckling)
Nice one, Carrots.

Zephyr, still on the ground, looks up. KAI STORMBRAID grins in her direction. He's fencing with another student but clearly noticed her little moment.

ZEPHYR blinks.

ZEPHYR
(confused, to herself)
Carrots?

She quickly blushes, brushing herself off and avoiding eye contact. Viggo offers a hand up, and she takes it stiffly, glancing toward Kai, who's already gone back to his match — but that crooked smile lingers in her mind.

FISHLEGS
And… dismissed! Good work, everyone! Go home, cool down, hydrate, and maybe don't fall over next time, alright?

The group starts breaking apart, grabbing their cloaks, chatting, and walking home. Zephyr trails behind slightly, still red in the face.

Scene 5 – Late Afternoon, September 24, 1015 CE – Haddock Household

INT. ZEPHYR'S ROOM – LATE AFTERNOON

ZEPHYR enters her room, dropping her training bag by the door. Her cheeks are still faintly pink from earlier. She shuts the door behind her, flops onto her bed, and pulls out a simple, worn notebook from her nightstand.

With her left hand, she begins sketching — a messy but heartfelt doodle of herself and KAI standing under a heart. Below it, in big letters with a flourish of embarrassed pride:

"Kai x Carrots "

She stares at it, chewing the end of her pencil and smiling like she's floating.

ASTRID (O.S.)
Zeph! Snacks are ready!

ZEPHYR
Coming, Mom!

She quickly stuffs the notebook under her pillow and rushes out.

INT. ZEPHYR'S ROOM – MOMENTS LATER

From down the hall, the door creaks open again. Enter Nuffink, mischievous sparkle in his eye. He looks around, then tiptoes to her bed. He flips the pillow up and pulls out the notebook.

He flips it open — and there it is.

NUFFINK
(grinning wide)
Ohhhh… Kai x Carrots?

He cackles quietly, hugging the notebook like treasure.

NUFFINK
Mom and Dad are gonna love this.

He tiptoes out, stifling a giggle, plotting his big reveal.

Scene 6 – Evening, September 24, 1015 CE – Haddock Master Bedroom

INT. MASTER BEDROOM – NIGHT

The lanterns are low, casting a cozy amber glow across the room. HICCUP is lying back on the bed with a giggling NUFFINK, who clutches his Toothless plush and pounces playfully on his dad's stomach.

HICCUP
(grunting playfully)
Toothless strikes again! No mercy!

NUFFINK
Rawrrr! Toothless always wins!

ASTRID, brushing her hair at the vanity nearby, glances over with a smirk, then shakes her head fondly.

As the laughter winds down, Nuffink rolls onto his back, still catching his breath.

NUFFINK
Hey Dad… I found something today.

HICCUP
(eyebrow raised)
Oh? This isn't about dragon bones again, is it?

NUFFINK
Nope. Better. I snuck into Zephyr's room—

ASTRID
(firmly, not turning around yet)
You what?

NUFFINK
Hear me out! I found her notebook. She wrote "Kai x Carrots" and drew them with hearts and everything. She's totally in love! And "Carrots" is probably her codename for herself!

HICCUP chuckles, rubbing his chin.

HICCUP
Huh. So our Zeph has her own style of romance. I guess I was more of a… awkward stammerer with a sword.

ASTRID
(smirking)
Mmm, very romantic.

She turns, giving Nuffink a teasing glare.

ASTRID
Alright, Mr. Spy. It's time to catch some Zs before your sister catches you. Come on.

NUFFINK groans dramatically but follows her out, still smug.

NUFFINK
She's so gonna turn red.

They exit, leaving Hiccup chuckling quietly to himself, shaking his head.

HICCUP
Carrots, huh? Poor kid's in deep.

Scene 7 – Morning, September 25, 1015 CE – Haddock Household

INT. HADDock KITCHEN – MORNING

The breakfast table is set. HICCUP, ASTRID, and NUFFINK are seated, halfway through their morning meal. The smell of toasted bread and yak butter fills the room.

From the hallway, a groggy ZEHPYR, messy-haired and still half-asleep, yawns as she trudges in, rubbing her eyes.

HICCUP
Morning, Carrots.

Zephyr freezes mid-step.

ZEPHYR
Good morn— Wait, what?
(suddenly alert)
How did you—?

Hiccup and Astrid exchange smirks. Nuffink tries to hold in a laugh but fails miserably.

ASTRID
Your little brother snuck into your room.

ZEPHYR
(eyes widen)
Why you! What else did you see?

NUFFINK
(grinning)
Not much… but seriously, "Carrots"? Why not "Lettuce"? Or "Cabbage"? Or—ooh—"Turnip"? Kinda rolls off the tongue.

ZEPHYR
(fuming)
Just so you know, you little insect, "Carrots" was not—!

NUFFINK
(interrupting, proud of himself)
"Kai" plus "Carrots" equals Kairots! It's perfect!

Zephyr growls and lunges forward, but Astrid calmly grabs her by the back of the tunic and plants her firmly back in her seat.

ASTRID
Eat. First. Then you can destroy your brother.

The front door knocks. A beat passes. Hiccup stands and opens it to reveal ERET (mid-to-late 40s), wearing his usual fur-lined armor and a cheeky grin.

ERET
Morning, Chief! Morning, gang.

HICCUP
Eret! What's the news?

ERET
Just came from the docks—figured I'd stop by. The Harvest Festival is officially set for the evening of the 30th next month. Big feast, dancing, lantern launching, couple of friendly contests… oh, and apparently, a make-your-own-pie stand.

NUFFINK
(grinning)
Do we get to eat the pies we make?

ERET
Only if you survive the taste.

Laughter. Zephyr tries to hide her face behind a mug, but Hiccup notices and smirks.

HICCUP
Say, Zeph… any idea what you're going to wear? Y'know… in case Kai shows up?

Zephyr lets out a groan and drops her head dramatically onto the table. Nuffink howls with laughter. Astrid sips her tea with a satisfied grin.

ASTRID
Oh, this festival's going to be fun.

CUT TO: Zephyr groaning into a slice of toast as the teasing continues.

Scene 8: Evening — October 30, 1015 CE — The Grand Hall, New Berk

The GRAND HALL glows with the golden-orange hues of lanterns strung from rafter to rafter. Leaves, gourds, and woven vines decorate the walls, celebrating the Harvest Festival. Vikings laugh, dance, and feast beneath banners of autumn red, brown, and gold. The energy is warm, joyful — the heartbeat of a close-knit village.

Men don decorative armor with engraved motifs of wheat and leaves. Women sway in flowy, silky garments that flutter with their every movement, some crowned in flower-and-leaf circlets. Musicians play rustic instruments in a corner stage, filling the air with spirited folk tunes.

HICCUP and ASTRID chat with Gobber and a heavily pregnant RUFFNUT (39), who's due with her and Fishlegs' first child right before Snoggletog. Laughter erupts as Ruffnut makes a joke about naming the baby "Snoggy."

Meanwhile, at a table near the corner, ZEPHYR sits in a beautiful red dress with soft golden trim, sipping warm cider beside her younger brother NUFFINK and grandmother VALKA, who has a wise, knowing smile as she watches the youth celebrate.

NUFFINK
(grinning)
So, Carrots, do you think he's gonna ask you to dance or just stand there like a wet eel?

ZEPHYR
(eye-roll, muttering)
If I didn't want cider in my hair, I'd pour it on you.

VALKA
(playfully firm)
Children, let's not bring the food into the warfare.

Just then, KAI STORMBRAID, dressed neatly in navy and amber colors, walks confidently over. His dark brown braid is tied back, and his posture is just the right blend of composed and nervous.

KAI
(looking at Zephyr)
Would you like to dance?

Zephyr's heart skips a beat. She blinks, surprised, then looks to Valka. Valka gives an encouraging nod.

Zephyr stands, trying not to trip over her dress.

ZEPHYR
I—I'd love to.

Nuffink smirks as they walk away. Valka shakes her head, smiling.

The music plays slower now. Zephyr and Kai take to the center. Other kids their age watch but don't intrude. Their movements are awkward at first, then they find a rhythm.

ZEPHYR
So... why "Carrots"?

KAI
Because of your hair. You know... reddish, like a carrot.

ZEPHYR
(raises a brow)
There are other red vegetables, you know. Beets. Peppers. Radishes.

KAI
(grinning)
Yeah, but "Carrots" sounds cuter. You're a cute carrot.

Zephyr's cheeks flush brighter than her dress.

ZEPHYR
You're ridiculous.

KAI
Maybe. But you smiled, didn't you?

He gently leads her off the dance floor and toward the open doors.

KAI
Come on. Autumn breeze beats sweaty boots.

EXT. GRAND HALL — NIGHT

The night is crisp, the moon full above the dark treetops. Orange leaves drift across the stone path outside. Zephyr and Kai walk in silence, then pause by the steps.

Zephyr leans slightly against Kai — unintentionally — then quickly pulls away.

ZEPHYR
Sorry! I didn't mean to—

KAI
(smiling)
It's okay.

Zephyr fiddles with her dress hem, breath catching.

ZEPHYR
Okay, look… I like you. I've liked you for a while. Since the camping trip last summer. And I think we were meant to—well—not "meant" like dragons and riders, but... you know what I mean.

KAI
(softly)
Yeah. I figured. You've been giving me the moon-eyes since you tripped over that tent rope.

Zephyr covers her face, groaning.

ZEPHYR
Ugh. I knew that was obvious.

KAI
(grinning)
But... I like you too. I just never knew how to say it. You're... you. And you're also Chief Hiccup's daughter... and firstborn. That's... kinda scary.

ZEPHYR
(smirks)
I'm more than that, Kai. Trust me. And if you're not scared of me, you'll be fine.

A pause. Zephyr straightens up.

ZEPHYR
Maybe we should... date sometime. Just to see if this "us" thing works. Like... my birthday's coming up. On the eleventh of November.

KAI
(nods)
Your thirteenth I guess? Sounds perfect.

Zephyr stands on tiptoe and kisses his cheek, then darts back a step.

ZEPHYR
Goodnight, Kai.

Kai's eyes go wide. He stammers.

KAI
G-Goodnight... Carrots.

Zephyr giggles, then heads back toward the Grand Hall, leaving Kai standing there — flushed, smiling, stunned.

FADE OUT.

Scene 9: Later That Night – Haddock Household

The moon hangs gently over New Berk, casting a soft glow through the windows of the Haddock home. Inside, all is quiet.

Zephyr, still in her red Harvest Festival dress, stands by her bedroom window, gazing at the stars. She holds her notebook — the same one Nuffink once peeked into — but this time, the page is fresh. In careful left-handed script, she doodles two figures holding hands under falling autumn leaves. Above it, she writes:
"November 11: My 13th Birthday & My First Date with Kai (!)"

She smiles to herself, then closes the notebook.

From the hallway, there's a knock. It's Astrid.

ASTRID
(sticking her head in gently)
All danced out?

ZEPHYR
(smiling)
Maybe. It was… a good night.

Astrid walks in and kisses her daughter's forehead.

ASTRID
You've grown so much, Zeph. And don't worry — your dad and I are still figuring it all out, too. Even when it comes to crushes.

Zephyr giggles softly.

ZEPHYR
I guess I get it from you and Dad.

ASTRID
(laughs)
Oh, you get a lot from us. The stubbornness? Definitely me. The dreamy eyes? That's your father. The heart? That's all yours.

They share a warm moment as Astrid brushes a loose strand of hair behind Zephyr's ear.

ASTRID
Now get some sleep, sweetheart. You've got more big days ahead.

ZEPHYR
Thanks, Mom. Love you.

ASTRID
Love you more.

Astrid walks out, gently closing the door behind her. Zephyr turns back to the window one last time. The breeze rustles the leaves outside, carrying the scent of pine and woodsmoke. She places the notebook beside her bed, snuggles under her blankets, and closes her eyes with a soft smile.

From the window, we see the peaceful village of New Berk below, stars twinkling above, and the faint sound of the festival still echoing in the distance.

FADE OUT.

THE END
