Reunions - Part 2

Doom Zone – Black Doom's Domain

Within the dark confines of White Space lay the Doom Zone, a twisted and corrupted reality shaped solely by Black Doom's sinister will. Here, crimson skies churned endlessly above cityscapes cast in perpetual shadow. Buildings leaned at unnatural angles, structures clawing desperately upward through thick waves of black and scarlet mist. From atop a twisted skyscraper, Black Doom surveyed his grim creation. His three blood-red eyes narrowed with satisfaction. His crimson gaze darkened with quiet, twisted pride.

Yet something changed. Cold air broke through the grim serenity. The wind grew colder, sharper, a sinister chill that would have frozen lesser beings to their core. But Black Doom stood unmoved, though intrigue flickered in the depths of his alien eyes. He knew well enough what such a chill heralded.

The silence shattered like glass with an eerie warble, a distinct, unsettling hum that seemed to resonate in one's very bones. Reality rippled momentarily, red energy cracking through the air, as Mephiles the Dark emerged, standing composed upon the rooftop. His crystalline body shimmered faintly with energy, those sharp lime-green eyes piercing forwards. In his clawed grasp pulsed the source of the disturbance, the Phantom Ruby.

"Black Doom," Mephiles began, his voice was smooth yet cold. "I see you've grown comfortable in your fabricated dimension."

Black Doom turned slowly, his eyes fixed firmly upon the gem shimmering in Mephiles's hand. A low, ominous chuckle reverberated through his alien form.

"And I see you continue to meddle with forces you cannot truly comprehend," Black Doom countered darkly. His eyes narrowed, pulsing faintly with a sinister glow. "That gemstone you clutch so confidently has been the ruin of countless worlds and civilizations"

Mephiles raised the ruby higher, examining its radiance with calculated admiration.

"Oh, I'm quite aware," he replied coolly. "It is, after all, a generous gift from a newfound ally, one I intend to use wisely to right the wrongs cast upon me."

"Wisely?" Black Doom mocked grimly, drifting closer until the sinister beings were mere feet apart. "You speak confidently, yet your attempts to vanquish a mere broken Nobody continually fail."

At that remark, Mephiles's eyes flickered dangerously. His grip tightened on the gem, and for a fleeting moment, his demeanour hardened.

"Aqua, even losing connection to her Keyblade, remains a formidable challenge. But soon enough she'll uncover truths she's ill-prepared for." Mephiles's eyes narrowed further, filled with calculated malice. "When my game with her becomes tiresome, the Phantom Ruby will reveal its true power."

Black Doom paused, amusement rippling silently through his presence.

"Be warned, Mephiles. The Ruby's truth is far crueler than you imagine. Once its reality twisting potential is unleashed fully, even you might not survive the outcome."

"Oh?" Mephiles countered evenly, unaffected by the threat. "You lecture me on wielding forbidden power, yet all I see here is an alien parasite leeching off Terios's temporal abilities. You've built your empire on borrowed power, Black Doom."

A growl rumbled silently through Black Doom's figure, his eyes narrowing into lethal slits.

"Borrowed?" he echoed dangerously. "Terios is part of my design. His power is mine by right. Soon, Shadow himself shall bend to me, and when that happens, not only Organization XIII and those fools of the Light—but even you, Mephiles, will kneel beneath my rule."

Mephiles stared directly back, unfazed, his eyes glowing intensely with silent mockery.

"You seem awfully confident, for one blind to the irony of his own existence."

Black Doom's eyes narrowed, confusion momentarily flickering behind his dark gaze.

"Speak clearly, Mephiles."

"You truly believe Terios's power belongs solely to you?" Mephiles tilted his head slowly, eyes sharp and deadly. "Did you forget? Those temporal abilities you so eagerly claim as yours... they originated from my essence. My darkness. My connection. Terios may bear your blood, but it's my power coursing through him. You, Black Doom, are merely siphoning strength from me. Ones that the Organization planted in their experimentations on him.

A heavy, ominous silence settled between them. Black Doom's presence darkened, shadows pooling around him like living things. Then suddenly, his laughter erupted violently. The laugh was dark and booming that vibrated through the Doom Zone, the fabric of his corrupted dimension trembling with raw power.

"You amuse me, Mephiles. You think a mere connection gives you control? Terios has the blood of the Black Arms running through him, same as Shadow. His allegiance to me runs deeper than any borrowed and implanted abilities could ever go. Can you truly control power as intrinsically as I? I think not."

"Underestimate me at your peril, Black Doom," Mephiles warned, his voice colder now, each syllable precise and venomous. "I will strike when you least expect it."

Black Doom drifted backwards slightly, his form towering imposingly. His voice became lower, darker, dripping with disdain.

"Bold threats from an erased entity, how amusing. Your desperation reeks, Mephiles. Trapped between timelines, relying upon the ruby to maintain your grasp on reality… You're falling apart. Your days are numbered."

Mephiles released a dismissive, mirthless chuckle.

"You see weakness because you wish it. If you truly believe your own deluded words, Black Doom, you're more pathetic than I imagined."

Black Doom turned slowly, his form beginning to fade into the darkness of his domain. Yet his final words sliced the air, cold as steel.

"Shadow will become my weapon. Terios shall fall in line next, and the universe itself will kneel beneath my rule. If you manage your petty revenge against the Lumarian, prepare yourself, for I will make you rue the day you crawled from the depths of darkness; trying to become one with existence once more."

Mephiles raised the Phantom Ruby high, its energy flaring brilliantly around him in scarlet arcs.

"Empty threats from a broken relic. You will not survive what comes next, Black Doom. Terios and this new timeline, they belong to me. When my moment arrives, you'll wish you had remained dead."

With that, both vanished, Black Doom melting into the shadows of his twisted cityscape, Mephiles disappearing in a ripple of crimson energy. The rooftop lay abandoned once more. A heavy silence settling upon the twisted reality.

White Space - Plaza

"CONFIRMATION: ALL INFORMATION ADDED TO INTERNAL FILES," Omega announced, his red optics pulsing briefly before dimming again. "DATA SHARED ABOUT BLACK DOOM AND MEPHILES."

There was a long silence after that, an invisible weight settling over the group like the fog that blanketed White Space itself.

"What a headache..." the other Aqua said breaking the silence, turning to her variant.

"I've got to admit," Orbot muttered, rubbing the back of his head with his hand, "that is a lot of information to process."

"You're telling me," Terra murmured, her hand resting over her chest, as if trying to steady her breathing. "This… is becoming bigger than I imagined."

"No kidding!" Cubot exclaimed, throwing his arms in the air and spinning dramatically in place. "We were already juggling Mephiles and that Phantom Ruby, and now we've got Black Doom on the loose like a phantom! What's next, a surprise visit from the Cloud of Darkness?"

"Cloud of Darkness..." Orbot tilted his head, blinking curiously.

The Aquas looked at each other and shrugged. Silver looked on conflicted, but intrigued.

"That name sounds familiar..." Terra pondered quietly to herself, placing a hand on her chin in thought.

"Is that one of your made up Saturday morning cartoon villains again?" Orbot asked, looking unimpressed at Cubot.

"No, no! She's real!" Cubot insisted, waving his hands frantically. "Like, seriously real. Floaty, terrifying… and someone who really needs to put more clothes on! I mean, come on! This is a family story, we've got standards!"

"Family story?" Terra questioned looking confused.

"More... More clothes?" Silver mused, slightly bewildered.

"Charming," Orbot muttered with a mechanical sigh. "Now you're fashion policing potential cosmic threats?"

"I'm just saying," Cubot huffed, crossing his arms. "If she ever shows up, we're going to need a fog machine and a dress code!"

"OBSERVATION: I HAVE INFORMATION ON THE CLOUD OF DARKNESS IF YOU REQUIRE IT," Omega interjected, voice precise as ever.

Aqua Prime blinked, turning to the large robot.

"No, no, we're fine, Omega. Thank you," she said quickly.

"UNDERSTOOD," Omega replied without hesitation.

Cubot groaned dramatically, throwing up his arms.

"Ohhh, come on! I wanted to know what G.U.N. had in their files! What's her skincare routine? Is the mist her or is it just for dramatic effect?"

"Cubot, shhh!" Orbot snapped, placing a metal finger over his mouth. "You're making us look ridiculous!"

"That ship sailed ages ago," Cubot muttered under his breath.

Terra and the Aquas gave a small laugh at Cubot's response. Orbot could only facepalm.

Ignoring the banter nearby, Silver folded his arms, his brow furrowed.

"It's not ideal, that's for sure." He turned his gaze upwards, his golden eyes narrowing on the Doom Moon, the dark sphere looming high above still. "And you're saying that thing is linked to him? To the Black Arms?"

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega replied, optics swiveling to meet Silver's.

"Great…" Silver muttered, letting his arms drop to his sides with a tired sigh.

"So… Shadow's hunch was right," Aqua Prime concluded. "The Black Arms have returned. Even after we took Black Doom down in the Realm of Darkness."

"I just can't believe the things you've told me about him," the other Aqua said, looking between her variant and Omega. Her arms folded slowly, as if trying to grasp the scale of it. "He sounds like a nightmare."

"He is," Aqua Prime said, her voice lowered.

Her eyes drifted slightly as she recalled the memory playing in her mind.

"In the Realm of Darkness… he got into my head. Made Shadow and I fight. I could feel myself slipping away, like someone else was pulling the strings. And I couldn't stop it, until Shadow helped me break free."

"Mind control…" Terra spoke suddenly. Her voice wasn't raised, but there was something hollow in it. "Yeah. I know the feeling."

Everyone turned to her.

"You too?" Aqua Prime asked gently.

Terra gave a slow nod. Her eyes, usually soft, were shadowed now. They were haunted.

"It was… Kefka."

A hush fell over the group, subtle but tangible. The air in White Space seemed to grow heavier, as if the name itself pulled a veil over the light.

Even Cubot, who was usually a whirlwind of movement and awkward commentary, froze mid-fidget. His head slowly tilted.

"Wait, wait," he said slowly. "Apart from the genocide, the world ending tantrums, the laundry list of atrocities, and of course the tax fraud... You're telling me the clown was into mind control, too?"

"You're still up in arms on the tax fraud thing?" Orbot asked, exasperated.

"I will not rest," Cubot declared with dramatic flair, raising a hand to the sky, "until he's audited!"

"G.U.N. FILES UPDATED," Omega announced in his ever-monotone cadence. "NEW OBJECTIVE: UPON EXIT FROM WHITE SPACE—INVESTIGATE SUBJECT: KEFKA PALOZZO. DESIGNATED OBJECTIVES: TERMINATION… AND AUDIT."

Terra blinked, stunned at the robot's response.

"Wait… you'll help us? After all this is over?" she asked, turning sharply toward the hulking machine. Her voice was filled with surprise—hope, even.

"AFFIRMATIVE." Omega's response was immediate, unwavering. "KEFKA IS A DANGER TO THE MANY WORLDS. HE MUST BE DESTROYED!"

"Well ain't that swell," Cubot chirped, spinning a full circle in delight. "See? You just have to submit your formal complaints to the heavily armed war machine working for a bureaucratic defense agency!"

Orbot groaned audibly, dragging a metal hand down his faceplate in pure exhaustion. Close by, the Aqua's smiled at the robot's expression.

"Oh Mobius, grant me patience…" Orbot muttered.

A faint smile tugged at Terra's lips. It wasn't much, but it was something. A fragile crack in the sorrow. Then, slowly, her expression sobered, and she drew in a quiet breath.

"Kefka…" she said, her voice low. It was steady, but yet laced with a trembling thread beneath. "He took an interest in me. Saw my power… and put a Slave Crown on my head. With it… he controlled everything I did."

The lightness in the air dissipated instantly. Even Cubot fell silent.

"He made me kill fifty soldiers," Terra continued. "All of them… in Magitek armour. I didn't blink. Didn't hesitate. It took me under three minutes."

A cold hush settled across the plaza.

Aqua Prime's breath hitched. Her hands slowly clenched at her sides. The other Aqua's expression darkened with quiet horror. Silver stepped a little closer, his posture straight but careful, his gaze fixed on her with gentle sympathy. Even Orbot and Cubot were uncharacteristically quiet.

Omega didn't move, but the faint flicker in his optics betrayed something, acknowledgment, perhaps even a sliver of respect.

"The Empire covered it up," Terra continued, her eyes looking distant, like she wasn't really here. "But the rumours spread. They called me a witch. A weapon."

Aqua Prime felt her emotions swirl. She had heard countless tales of loss… but this, this was a kind of violation she understood far too well.

"I stayed with Kefka and the Empire until the mission at Narshe," Terra continued. "They'd discovered a frozen Esper. I was sent with two Imperial soldiers, Biggs and Wedge."

"Biggs and Wedge…" Cubot muttered, tapping his chin. "I've definitely heard those names before..."

"Cubot, not now," Orbot hissed, annoyed. "Terra is opening up to us."

"I was just saying!" Cubot whispered back defensively, holding up his hands in mock surrender.

Orbot shook his head with a weary sigh, then turned back to Terra.

"Apologies. Please, go on."

Terra gave a small nod, letting the interruption slide.

"We killed several Narshe guards. Then we reached the Esper. Something about it, something in it, resonated with me. It reacted… violently." Her brows furrowed as the memory played in her mind. "The energy knocked me unconscious. I would've died, but a man named Arvis found me. He removed the Slave Crown and brought me to safety."

She looked down at her hands, small tremors still there.

"That's when the memories started returning. Slowly. Painfully. But I remembered who I was."

"That's… awful," Aqua Prime said softly. Her voice was quiet, fragile. "I know what it's like. Having your memories, your sense of self shattered."

Terra looked up towards Aqua Prime.

"You do?"

"She does," the other Aqua replied, gently turning towards her variant.

Aqua Prime exhaled, her shoulders falling slightly.

"Mephiles split me in two," she said, eyes dropping to the floor. "Tore away my identity. I was left wandering the Realm of Darkness without a past, without purpose."

"Aqua…" Terra said, softly. There was compassion in her voice, and something else, understanding.

But Aqua Prime lifted her head high, her blue eyes now resolute.

"But we can't dwell in the pain. We can't let our past define us."

"Only guide us," Silver added, stepping closer, his voice quiet but firm. He glanced from Aqua to Terra, then to the Aqua variant, holding their eyes with a steady calm. "We've all made mistakes. Been manipulated. Watched everything we care about fall to pieces."

His gaze shifted upward, towards the eerie glow of the Doom Moon hanging like a dark, bloodshot eye in the colourless sky.

"But it's not the pain that defines us. It's how we rise through it."

Terra inhaled slowly, her shoulders straightening.

"You're right," she said softly. "We survive by moving forward. For the ones we protect… and for the ones we've lost."

There was a quiet sniffle which drew everyone's attention.

"That…was beautiful," Cubot said somberly, holding a hand to his face. "If I could cry, I would. I swear it."

Orbot turned towards him, surprised. For once, his voice was gentle.

"It's okay, Cubot," He remarked, resting a hand on his companion's shoulder. "We'll do our part. We'll help stop Mephiles. And the Phantom Ruby too. Whatever it takes."

Terra blinked, a small but genuine smile forming.

"I didn't realise machines could feel that deeply," she said softly.

"Oh, they can," Silver said with a small smile, leaning back slightly. "Even Omega. When he's not being dry and sarcastic."

"I DO NOT ENGAGE IN SARCASTIC BEHAVIOUR," Omega objected, his optics flashing.

The others turned to look at him just in time for Aqua Prime to smile playfully.

"You're the sassiest, but also most passionate machine I know," she teased. "But, you do moan when you don't get dibs on ending an enemy."

"I AM STILL OWED DIBS, AQUA," Omega declared with a volume that echoed faintly off the nearby ruins.

The group burst into laughter. It was warm and much needed. Even Terra found herself chuckling softly. Cubot giggled so hard he nearly toppled over, and Orbot muttered something about 'uncontrolled personality matrixes' while nudging him upright.

But the levity didn't last forever. Aqua Prime's smile faded as she straightened, her tone shifting back into focus.

"We still have a mission, stop Mephiles before he can corrupt more trapped timelines or tear White Space apart."

She hesitated for a moment, her gaze lifting towards the Black Moon.

"And if we run into Black Doom, then we—"

"Leave him to me."

The stoic voice came from behind them, cutting cleanly through the air.

Aqua Prime's breath caught. Her blue eyes widened.

The others turned quickly, startled, their expressions shifting from surprise to recognition as the figure approached.

It was Shadow.

He walked towards them, his strides purposeful and confident. At his sides trailed a gathering of new faces, Maria, serene but alert; Professor Gerald Robotnik, hands folded behind his back, deep in observation; and beside them, Princess Elise and the Aqua variant, both walking with purpose.

"Shadow…" Aqua Prime remarked loudly, her voice almost cracking with emotion.

Without hesitation, she dashed forward. In one fluid motion, she dropped to his level and wrapped her arms around him, embracing him tightly.

Shadow stiffened at first, clearly caught off guard. Hugs were of course not his thing.

"You're safe," Aqua Prime murmured softly, relief and warmth flooding her voice.

Shadow exhaled sharply through his nose, a quiet note of mild annoyance, yet he didn't push away the genuine affection behind her words.

"Of course I am," he replied simply, his eyes narrowing slightly as if the very idea he'd ever be in danger was absurd.

Behind them, Maria clasped her hands gently, smiling softly at the touching reunion. Gerald observed in quiet reflection. Elise, meanwhile, placed a gentle hand over her heart, touched by the sincerity of their bond. The Aqua variant, the one dressed casually and from the universe of Thanos's victory, watched the exchange carefully; curiosity gleaming in her blue eyes. It was as though she was observing a forgotten memory brought to life.

"You two know each other well," Gerald said softly, his eyes narrowing with analytical interest as they moved between Shadow and Aqua Prime from behind his dark glasses.

"It's really nice to see," Maria added warmly, her voice filled with gentle sincerity.

At that moment, Aqua Prime slowly lifted her head, just enough for her eyes to meet Maria's. They softened instantly when they connected.

"You must be Maria," Aqua said gently, her voice catching with emotion. "Shadow's told me a lot about you."

Maria blinked, clearly caught off guard.

"He… he did? He has?"

Still locked in Aqua's hold, Shadow's brow twitched ever so slightly. His ears gave the faintest flick of irritation.

"Please get off me…" he muttered, barely above a breath.

"You're not getting off that easy," Aqua teased, her voice low and playful. "I know you're not a hugger, but tough luck."

"Damn…" Shadow exhaled, clearly resigned to his fate.

Maria stepped forward, curiosity blooming in her expression.

"How did you meet Shadow?"

Aqua's smile faded into something softer, more vulnerable. She turned her gaze back to the girl.

"He rescued me," she said. "From the Realm of Darkness. I was trapped there… broken. He found me when no one else could. He pulled me out."

Maria's eyes widened, hand instinctively lifting to her chest.

"That's incredible… Shadow, that's—wow."

Gerald's brow lifted with interest as the story.

"That's no small feat. From what I know, The Realm of Darkness is not simply escaped. Navigating it is near-impossible, even for the most capable."

Aqua nodded slowly in agreement.

"I thought I was lost for good. But then… there he was."

The rest of the group exchanged glances—some impressed, others quietly surprised. Even Terra, who had heard her fair share of harrowing stories, looked visibly moved. Orbot murmured something under his breath about heroism algorithms. Cubot looked like he might cry if he were equipped with tear ducts.

"You truly do have wonderful friends around you, Shadow," Maria said, her voice kind and sincere.

Before Shadow could respond, or scowl harder, Silver cut in with a smirk, stepping closer with Terra, Orbot, Cubot, and Omega in tow.

"'Friends' would be putting it lightly," he said, his tone dry as a desert.

"I'll say," Orbot agreed readily.

"I just hope he doesn't blow us to bits!" Cubot squeaked anxiously, trembling at the mere idea.

Shadow's ear twitched in mild irritation, clearly picking up on Cubot's remark, but his attention remained on Aqua Prime, still slightly holding him.

"You mind letting go now?" Shadow asked flatly, his voice low and to the point.

Aqua Prime blinked, then gave a sheepish laugh.

"Oh—sorry," she said, gently pulling back. "See? That wasn't so bad, was it?"

"I still don't like hugs," he muttered, folding his arms across his chest with practiced stoicism. But his attention was already shifting, his eyes flicking across the group and landing squarely on the two Aqua variants standing nearby. His gaze lingered on the one who had been traveling alongside Aqua Prime.

"Another variant I see," he stated, almost as if confirming it aloud for himself.

The air around them seemed to still. The three Aquas turned their full attention to one another. Aqua Prime stood up fully, eyes locking with her counterparts. Her gaze drifted to the newest arrival: the casually dressed Aqua from the timeline overrun by Thanos's twisted vision of balance.

For a long beat, no one moved. No one spoke. The group simply watched as the three versions of Aqua stood face-to-face, like reflections in an unseen mirror.

It was Orbot who broke the silence, his voice cutting through the hush with mechanical precision.

"Well… I guess that's the third Aqua Omega mentioned earlier," he said, gesturing towards the newcomer with a polite sweep of his arm.

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega confirmed. He pivoted slightly to face the casually dressed variant, red optics scanning her from head to toe. "THIS AQUA VARIANT DRESSES MORE CASUALLY THAN THE OTHER TWO."

"…That's one way to put it," murmured Silver, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I suppose that makes it easier to pick her out in a crowd," Orbot remarked dryly, his optic sensors narrowing with faint amusement.

Cubot leaned in with theatrical enthusiasm, his cube head swiveling down towards the casually dressed Aqua's feet.

"Gotta say," he chirped, "you totally rock those purple shoes, other-other Aqua! I'd snag a pair myself if—well, y'know—I had feet. Or legs. Or a shopping app."

He paused, then added with a mock sigh, "Or a credit score..."

Aqua glanced down at her purple tennis shoes, then back up at the excitable robot. One brow arched, and a faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips.

"…Thanks?" she said, her tone caught somewhere between amused and confused.

"Cubot's giving out fashion compliments now?" Silver quipped, arms folded across his chest, his voice laced with dry amusement. "What a timeline."

"I contain multitudes," Cubot declared proudly.

"Multitudes of what, exactly?" Orbot asked flatly, not even bothering to hide his exasperation.

"Multitudes of being an idiot..." Shadow muttered coolly, arms still crossed, his gaze locked forward.

There was a beat of silence, then the entire group seemed to react in unison.

Cubot blinked in surprise, swiveling towards Orbot with a slack-jawed expression. Orbot merely shrugged, as if to say, "he's not wrong". Terra raised a hand to her mouth to stifle a quiet laugh, while Silver discreetly turned his head, a smirk tugging at his lips.

The three Aquas exchanged glances, sharing the same bemused expression, and even Gerald looked like he was fighting off a chuckle. Elise covered her mouth politely, visibly amused.

But Maria, always the kind hearted soul, stepped forward with a slight frown.

"Shadow," she said gently, her tone laced with disapproval, "that was rude."

Shadow gave a quiet, dismissive shake of his head.

"He is one," he replied simply.

"Still," Maria pressed, her voice soft but firm. "That's not how you talk to a friend."

Shadow didn't respond, but his silence spoke volumes. He glanced to the side, and though his expression didn't shift much, the lack of protest was telling.

"Again," Orbot chimed in dryly, "what Silver said earlier, 'friends' is putting it lightly."

Before Cubot could recover or launch into one of his long-winded, overly dramatic rebuttals, Elise stepped forward, bringing the conversation back on track.

"I just can't believe there's another Aqua," Elise murmured, her voice almost reverent as her gaze drifted across the trio of nearly identical women. Her eyes lingered on each of them in turn, trying to reconcile the surreal image before her, three versions of the same soul, each shaped by their own battle-scarred journey.

"It's truly fascinating," Gerald added softly from beside her, arms now folded. His brow furrowed with scholarly interest. "This level of dimensional convergence… Variants of a singular being drawn together across fractured timelines. Even for the multiverse, this borders on the extraordinary."

"It's like looking into a soul reflected three ways," Maria said quietly, her hands clasped in front of her. "You can tell they share the same light… but each shine a little differently."

Silver nodded in agreement, his golden eyes focused thoughtfully on the Aquas.

"Each one's lived a different life. Fought different battles. But they all carry the same strength."

Shadow stood with his arms folded tightly over his chest, watching in silence. His gaze was hard to read, stern as ever, but with an edge of contemplation. He wasn't speaking, but he was listening.

"It's eerie," Terra added, her tone subdued. She studied the casually dressed Aqua, the one who'd survived a timeline where Thanos had won. "Same name. Same light. But you can see it in their eyes… different scars."

"I guess this place really does draw in the weird and wonderful," Orbot remarked, gesturing with a sweep of his arm towards the surrounding void of the plaza.

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega agreed.

"So… do you think they'll do the pointing meme thing?!" Cubot exclaimed, practically vibrating with excitement.

"The… what now?" Terra blinked, turning towards him slowly. Her brow creased in confusion, equal parts curious and mildly concerned.

The rest of the group paused, shifting their attention toward the yellow-and-black robot with collective curiosity.

"Meme?" Shadow echoed flatly, unimpressed. His tone made it sound like the word itself offended him.

"Orbot?" Silver looked sideways at Cubot's counterpart, clearly hoping for clarity. "Care to explain?"

"Oh no…" Orbot groaned, his posture slumping forward like a deflated balloon. "Here we go..."

Cubot spun dramatically around, arms flung upward in mock despair.

"Come on! You know! The meme! The one where identical people lock eyes, freak out, and start pointing at each other like, "Wait, you're me?!" It's hilarious! Iconic! A timeless treasure of the digital age!"

"That doesn't sound funny," Shadow said bluntly. "It sounds foolish."

Terra shook her head helplessly.

"I… don't even know what a meme is."

Maria exchanged puzzled glances with Gerald.

"I'm not familiar either… Grandfather, do you know what he's talking about?"

Gerald gave an exaggerated, helpless shrug.

"I haven't the foggiest idea, my dear."

"Oh come on, seriously?" Cubot slumped, devastated. "My comedic genius is wasted on this group."

Before anyone could console the melodramatic robot, the Aqua from the universe of Collision suddenly chuckled softly.

"You know… this is pretty amusing."

Both Aqua Prime and the casually dressed Aqua turned to her simultaneously.

"Amusing?" Aqua Prime echoed curiously. "How so?"

"Yeah, I'd certainly like to hear this explanation as well," the casually dressed Aqua added skeptically, folding her arms.

The Collisions Aqua smiled gently, nostalgia crossing her face.

"It's just... I've seen a situation like this before. Back in New York… with the three Peters."

"Three… Peters?" Shadow muttered, eyebrow raised skeptically. "What are you talking about?"

"Probably best for her to explain it to you later, Shadow," Silver replied. "Lets just say she knows her way around the multiverse block."

The Collisions Aqua chuckled warmly before continuing.

"Don't worry about it right now, Shadow. Silver is right, it's a long story probably best saved for later."

"Good idea," Orbot interjected swiftly, his gaze shifting between the various Aquas, hedgehogs, and new arrivals. "We have enough introductions to handle first, never mind further confusion on past stories."

Cubot, however, seemed more frantic than ever, waving his arms dramatically.

"Wait! Hold on! Before we move on, can we please assign numbers to the Aquas or something? Three Keyblade Masters that look the same is absolute chaos waiting to happen! How are we supposed to keep track of you all?"

Elise nodded thoughtfully as she spoke up.

"Well, one of them is dressed differently. That helps at least," she affirmed.

"I CAN DETECT DISTINCT ENERGY SIGNATURES," Omega interjected helpfully.

Terra tilted her head skeptically towards Omega.

"That's useful for you, but what about when we inevitably get separated? Especially the two Aqua's that look the same?"

Omega paused briefly, optics dimming momentarily, as if the logic hadn't yet occurred to him.

"FAIR POINT."

Shadow exhaled impatiently, turning firmly to face the Aquas.

"Enough. Numbers later. I have questions for you."

"Who, me?" the Collisions Aqua immediately pointed at herself, eyes wide with surprise, before quickly swiveling her finger to the casually dressed Aqua. "Or did you mean her?"

The casually dressed Aqua jolted in surprise, pointing right back, looking alarmed.

"Wait, me? Why would he question me? Aren't you the confusing variant here?" She then swiftly pointed a finger at Aqua Prime. "And what about her?"

Aqua Prime blinked incredulously, swiftly raising both her hands to defensively point at each variant.

"Me? Why would Shadow question me, I'm literally from his universe! It's clearly you two he's confused by!"

Cubot suddenly gasped loudly, dramatically, and ecstatically. His metal hands flew to the sides of his cube-shaped head in sheer delight.

"THEY'RE DOING IT! THEY'RE ACTUALLY DOING THE POINTING MEME! OH, SWEET MOBIUS, THIS IS INCREDIBLE! ABSOLUTE CINEMA!"

Orbot placed his metal palm over his face with a resigned groan.

"Oh, good grief…"

"My faith in comedy is restored! It's THE meme!" Cubot exclaimed, he was buzzing in excitement and joy. "A real meme unfolding right before my optics! I'm living the dream, Orbot—THE DREAM BABY!"

Elise turned slowly towards Orbot, her expression both worried and bewildered.

"Should… should we be concerned about him?

"He's way too excited than normal," Terra agreed, her eyes looking to the amused robot.

Orbot heaved a long sigh as he replied.

"He'll be fine. He will tire himself out, sooner or later."

Silver chuckled, folding his arms and shaking his head.

"Guess we can't blame him, it's not every day you see something like this."

"Unbelievable…" Shadow muttered quietly, though a trace of amusement lingered in his eyes.

Maria smiled sweetly, leaning gently towards her Grandfather.

"Well, I suppose we've learned what a meme is... I think?"

Gerald chuckled gently, his hands folded neatly behind his back as his eyes twinkled with amusement from behind his dark glasses.

"Indeed we have, my dear. Indeed we have."

The levity in the air lingered only a moment longer, until Shadow's voice cut through it like a blade.

"Enough."

The single word dropped heavy into the silence.

The three Aquas stopped mid-point, lowering their arms at once, exchanging glances that were now tinged with a hint of self-awareness- and in one case, mild embarrassment.

"We don't have time for this finger-pointing nonsense," Shadow continued bluntly. "We have missions to complete."

"And full introductions," Aqua Prime gently reminded, her expression softening as she regarded her two other selves. "And probably a whole lot of questions."

The casually dressed Aqua from the world ravaged by Thanos nodded slowly, her face thoughtful.

"I suppose we do."

Gerald's expression grew pensive, his gaze lifting toward the menacing shadow of the Black Moon hovering above.

"Perhaps we might find somewhere safer, somewhere away from prying eyes… or unwanted attention."

"Like a safe zone?" Silver suggested, glancing at the scientist with a raised brow. "Is there even one of those in White Space?"

Gerald stroked his mustache thoughtfully as he replied.

"Surely, even a place as unusual as this must contain pockets of refuge."

"OBSERVATION: I MAY KNOW OF SUCH A LOCATION," Omega interjected suddenly, his robotic voice commanding immediate attention.

"You do?" Terra asked, turning to face the towering war machine, surprise flickering briefly across her features.

"You kept that quiet," Collisions Aqua remarked dryly, folding her arms as she tilted her head to regard Omega skeptically.

"THE TIME TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION HAD NOT ARRIVED UNTIL NOW," Omega explained bluntly.

The Collisions Aqua sighed softly, shrugging slightly.

"Well, better late than never, I suppose. It beats standing around exposed in this endless void." She took a step closer, curiosity piqued. "What exactly did you discover?"

Omega's optics flickered briefly, processing the inquiry before he spoke again.

"WHILE SEARCHING FOR AQUA, I DISCOVERED A TIME HOLE LEADING TO A CHAMBER. THE ENTRANCE IS THROUGH A HALLWAY OF MIRRORS."

"A Mirror Hallway?" Aqua Prime echoed, puzzled by this revelation.

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega confirmed firmly. "MY HYPOTHESIS IS THAT THIS HALLWAY SERVES AS A NEXUS POINT. A CONVERGENCE WHERE MULTIPLE REALITIES MIGHT INTERCONNECT."

Intrigued, Aqua Prime glanced at her two variants.

"Did either of you encounter anything like a Mirror Hallway when you appeared here?"

Both shook their heads immediately.

"No," the casual Aqua answered firmly, brushing a strand of hair from her eyes. "We just appeared."

"The same for me," the Collisions Aqua confirmed softly. "I simply arrived, no passageway or mirrors."

Omega's optics flashed in quiet contemplation.

"I STILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE THE FULL NATURE OF THIS ANOMALY. HOWEVER, I CAN CONFIRM THAT THE AREA BEYOND APPEARS SECURE."

Shadow's voice cut through once more, direct and efficient.

"How far is this place?"

"APPROXIMATELY ZERO POINT FIVE KILOMETERS FROM OUR CURRENT LOCATION," Omega replied without hesitation, indicating the direction with one imposing mechanical arm.

Shadow exchanged quick looks with Aqua Prime, then glanced at the gathered group around him. The silence of White Space was pressing in again, a constant reminder of their vulnerability.

Aqua Prime nodded decisively, turning to Omega.

"Then it's best we take your advice and follow your lead," Aqua Prime said, her voice firm yet composed. "It certainly beats standing out here exposed. We can regroup… maybe even catch our breath before whatever comes next."

Shadow glanced around the plaza, his red eyes scanning the fractured scenery, the remnants of timelines frozen, echoes of worlds trapped between moments. His gaze lingered on the colourless hubs, the lifeless stillness that surrounded them like a suffocating veil.

"There are multiple timelines trapped here," he confirmed, his tone low and observant. "But I agree, a brief pause won't kill us. Not yet anyway."

Omega shifted his bulky frame slightly, already beginning to move forward.

"AFFIRMATIVE. PLEASE FOLLOW."

Without further prompting, the group slowly began to move, falling into step behind Omega's steady mechanical stride. Shadow lingered briefly, scanning the plaza once more before turning his gaze resolutely forward.

Cubot hovered close to Orbot, nudging his companion gently with an elbow.

"Hey, you think this Mirror Hallway place has snacks?"

Orbot sighed dramatically, his shoulders slumping with mechanical resignation.

"Do you ever focus on anything important?"

"Hey! Snacks are important!" Cubot declared with dramatic fervor, his cube-shaped head swiveling in exaggerated protest. "You try wandering through an existential void on an empty stomach!"

Orbot turned to him slowly, deadpan as ever.

"You don't have a stomach."

Cubot gasped, offended.

"Not that you know of!" he countered indignantly, puffing out his low metal chest. "Just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it isn't there!"

Terra glanced towards the yellow-and-black robot curiously, unable to suppress her intrigued amusement.

"Can machines even eat?" she mused.

Cubot puffed up proudly, optics brightening.

"We probably shouldn't, but we absolutely do! It's all part of our mysterious charm, Terra!"

He paused briefly, then added with earnest hope, "And speaking of charm, I really hope this secret place has coffee!"

Maria couldn't help but giggle softly at their spirited exchange, walking closely beside Gerald, who shook his head affectionately, a soft smile tugging beneath his moustache.

Silver chuckled quietly to himself, observing the group's antics with warmth in his golden eyes. Even Shadow, though his stoic expression remained unchanged, appeared slightly less tense as the group's banter echoed gently through the emptiness of White Space.

Together, the unlikely gathering—friends, heroes, robots, and variants from across scattered timelines—pressed onward through the pale, featureless void. Each step brought them closer not only to Omega's mysterious Mirror Hallway, but hopefully, toward answers hidden within its reflective corridors, and the safety they so desperately sought at the Safe Zone.

Castle Oblivion – Naminé's Chamber

The dim glow of artificial light cast long shadows across the walls of Naminé's quiet, white chamber. It was silent now, as Terios had just left through a dark corridor minutes ago, his final words still echoing faintly in her ears.

"I'll bring the monster to White Space. Be ready."

She sat alone once more.

Her fingers rested against the frame of her sketchbook, trembling slightly from the weight of what she'd agreed to. Slowly, she opened it, flipping through pages of memories—constructed, rewritten, fabricated. Each one more painful than the last.

She stopped on a particular page.

The image before her was drenched in tension and devastation. A titanic water monster towering above the broken ruins of a city half swallowed by water and destruction. The chaotic entity's serpentine form arched through a darkened sky, water spiraling around it in furious motion. Down below, amid broken steel and shattered glass, Sonic was mid-leap—frozen in her drawing in an eternal act of defiance and heroism.

"Station Square…" she said. Her breath caught in her throat. "Sonic..."

She exhaled and turned to the next page. The next image made her still completely.

Two figures stood at the edge of a torn rift, a jagged hole in space itself, swirling with shades of violet. The world around it was colourless, nearly blank... except for them.

One was Aqua, her blue hair framing a focused, resolute expression as she stood slightly ahead. She looked strong and determined, but there was weariness in her posture. As though she carried more than she let on.

And beside her was Shadow. Standing at Aqua's side, not as a weapon of vengeance, but a protector. There was something in the way he faced the rift: poised, unwavering. A sentinel before a storm.

Naminé stared at the page, lips parting slowly.

Her expression changed, guilt creeping in like frost over glass.

"I'm so sorry…" she whispered, her voice shaking.

She looked at Aqua first, guilt flashing in her blue eyes. The Keyblade Master had been a victim of memory distortion. Naminé had seen it all, fragments of Aqua's mind being tampered with, rewritten, torn apart for purposes she never agreed to.

"I didn't mean to pull you into this."

But her gaze soon shifted towards Shadow. It lingered there for a moment.

"I need that emerald," she said, her urgency tightening. "I need to help. I can't let this continue."

She rose from her chair abruptly, the sketchbook closing with a soft snap. Her breath quickened.

"If Sonic has to face that monster… if Shadow's already drawn into this by Black Doom… and if Aqua is risking everything to hold the line against this Mephiles…"

Her free hand clenched over her chest, trembling.

"Then I have to make this right."

Back in White Space

The group stood before the time hole

It pulsed in the air like a wound torn into reality itself, jagged, enormous, and glowing with a deep, iridescent violet hue. The swirling vortex inside churned like a storm of galaxies caught mid-collapse, shifting between purple and violet, streaked with veins of energy. It stretched high above their heads, tall enough for even Omega to walk through without ducking. The rip hummed, not loudly, but low and constant, like a whisper reverberating inside one's bones.

"So…" Silver stepped forward slightly, arms crossed, his golden eyes narrowed as he examined the rift. "This is the entrance to the Safe Zone?"

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega replied from his towering position at the front of the group. His red optics pulsed steadily as he scanned the anomaly. "ENTERING HERE WILL BRING YOU TO THE MIRROR HALLWAY. PROCEED STRAIGHT AHEAD UNTIL YOU REACH THE END. YOU WILL FIND THE SAFE ZONE THERE."

Orbot raised a metallic hand.

"YES?" Omega remarked bluntly, seeing the smaller robot waiting to ask a question.

"Define 'Safe Zone.' Because your idea of safe tends to involve heavy artillery and weapons-grade security measures," Orbot said matter-of-factly.

"EXCELLENT OBSERVATION," Omega replied, seemingly without irony. "THE ZONE IN QUESTION APPEARS TO BE A CHAMBER, FILLED WITH VARIOUS OBJECTS AND DEVICES FROM ACROSS DIFFERENT REALITIES. DATA SUGGESTS THEY WERE PULLED INTO THIS REALM VIA TEMPORAL DISTORTIONS."

"Artifacts?" Gerald echoed, his hands folded thoughtfully behind his back. "How curious. Sounds like a dimensional pocket of unprecedented significance."

"THERE IS ALSO COFFEE," Omega added flatly.

"Coffee?" Cubot's entire body perked up. "Well, hot dog, I'm sold!"

"Wait, machines can drink coffee?" Terra questioned with a blink, turning to the enthusiastic robot.

"This one can!" Cubot exclaimed proudly, already floating forward. "Caffeine does wonders for my circuits. Makes me feel like I'm jazzed up on twenty thousand volts of enthusiasm!"

The machine entered. A groan came from Orbot.

"Good grief…" Orbot muttered, shaking his head as he followed after him. "Let's hope the so-called 'Safe Zone' is 'Cubot on a caffeine high proof'?"

The casually dressed Aqua turned towards Princess Elise and gave a half-smile.

"Shall we, your highness?"

"Let's," Elise replied with a smile and a firm nod.

Together, the two walked into the time hole, their forms slowly swallowed by the swirling light.

Silver glanced to Terra with a shrug.

"Well… onwards, I guess?"

Terra hesitated for a moment, glancing at the portal and then at the colourless sky overhead.

"If there's a chance of stability inside, even for a little while… then yes. Let's go."

She stepped through next, with Silver following. Maria followed silently behind, offering Shadow and Aqua Prime a small wave as she passed. Gerald adjusted his coat and strolled after her, curiosity gleaming behind his dark glasses.

Only the Aqua from the Collisions universe remained. She turned to Aqua Prime with a calm nod.

"See you on the other side," she said quietly, then she too vanished into the light.

Omega stood still for a moment, then pivoted slightly to face the two who hadn't moved.

"AQUA. SHADOW. PLEASE FOLLOW."

"We'll be there soon," Shadow replied evenly, not bothering to look up. He's eyes were locked onto the rift.

Omega stared for a beat, then turned back towards the portal.

"UNDERSTOOD. I SHALL SAVE YOU COFFEE."

"Thank you," Aqua Prime replied with a smile and small nod.

"Leave me coffee beans," Shadow added bluntly, brushing a speck of dust from his glove. "You know how I like it."

"AFFIRMATIVE," Omega replied, vanishing into the violet time hole. His massive form consumed in a wash of colour and silence.

White Space fell silent. Shadow and Aqua stood side by side near the anomaly, its winds tugging softly at them. Aqua turned towards Shadow slightly, tilting her head in curiosity.

"You eat coffee beans?" she asked curiously.

"Yes."

Aqua blinked, momentarily thrown.

"You're supposed to drink coffee, not… chew it."

Shadow gave her a sidelong look, as though what she'd said was the strange part of the conversation.

"Putting water with coffee just makes it… coffee-flavoured water," he said flatly. "I eat the beans. It gives me more of a kick."

Aqua blinked again, then snorted slightly, covering her mouth too late to hide the giggle.

"That might be the most Shadow thing I've ever heard."

He didn't respond immediately, but the corner of his mouth tugged the slightest fraction upward—barely a smirk, almost imperceptible.

Aqua glanced back at the portal.

"They've all gone ahead," she said, her voice quiet now. "It's strange, isn't it? All of us… gathered like this. Somehow converging in this one place stuck between time and space.

Shadow didn't look away from the time hole.

"Not strange," he said simply. "Inevitable."

"You really believe that?" Aqua asked, curiously.

Shadow shrugged as he responded.

"Too much power in too many hands. Eventually, it all collides. Especially when time and space are being messed with.

Aqua let the silence breathe, her gaze lingering on the swirling edges of the time hole. The time hole hummed with a quiet intensity, its purple light casting faint ripples across the blank canvas of White Space. Cold air rolled off its surface in soft waves, brushing gently against her face.

"I'm glad you're here," she said at last, as if afraid the moment might vanish if she spoke too loud.

Shadow's eyes remained fixed on the horizon, but the muscles in his shoulders eased slightly. He nodded once, his tone firm.

"…I'm glad you're here too."

Aqua turned slightly, offering him a small, warm smile. It was the kind of expression only someone who'd walked through darkness could wear—faint, but genuine.

"Are you ready to join the others?" she asked, her voice lighter now.

"Not just yet," Shadow replied. He turned fully to face her, arms folding across his chest again. His crimson gaze met her blue, and though he was several inches shorter, he carried himself like gravity bowed to him. "I have to ask you something."

Aqua tilted her head slightly, curiosity lighting her features.

"All right," she said gently. "What is it?"

Shadow exhaled through his nose, thoughtful.

"Earlier… I remembered something. A memory, one I didn't know I had until now. Did anything like that happen to you?"

Aqua blinked. Her hand rose instinctively to her chin, fingertips brushing against her lip in thought.

"Now that you mention it…" she murmured. "Yes. Something did feel off earlier. A memory that wasn't quite clear suddenly… sharpened. Almost like a haze lifting."

Shadow's gaze narrowed, his voice lowering as he pressed further.

"Did it involve a trio named Sora, Donald, and Goofy?"

Aqua's brow furrowed.

"Donald and Goofy…?" She shook her head slightly. "I don't think I've heard those names before. But, Sora…"

She paused, the name rolling off her tongue like a chord from a forgotten melody. Her eyes widened faintly as the recollection bloomed, piece by piece.

"Yes," she said softly. "That does sound familiar."

Shadow's hands fell to his sides.

"The kid wields a Keyblade," he added. "He has spiky brown hair. Too nice for his own good. Ridiculous yellow shoes."

A quiet laugh escaped Aqua.

"Some of what your saying sounds about right," Aqua admitted, then her eyes drifted upwards as memory overtook her. "I met a young boy once. On the Destiny Islands. He was just a child then. But even then, I could tell… he had a strong heart."

Shadow's expression flickered.

"You knew him that far back?" he asked, voice low.

"He couldn't have been more than four or five," Aqua replied. "But I remember now… I felt something in him. A light that burned strong. An unbreakable connection."

Shadow turned his gaze towards the void once again, contemplative.

"I met him in Traverse Town," he said. "He was traveling with this Donald and Goofy. And Sonic." He began to pace slightly, his air shoes tapping softly against the smooth, white surface beneath them. "I taught them about Chaos Control. Leon and Aerith were there too…"

His voice trailed off for a moment before he added, quieter now, "Naminé was right."

"Naminé?" Aqua echoed. Her eyes sharpened with focus. "Who's that?"

Shadow turned back to her, arms tensing slightly.

"She appeared to me after my recent mission at Kingdom Valley. She said the Chaos Emeralds were restoring our lost memories."

Aqua's eyes widened in realization.

"So the emeralds are… unlocking our blurred pasts?"

"Yes," Shadow replied. His tone had shifted—less guarded, more resolved. "Sonic must've found one. That's when I remembered Sora."

Aqua absorbed this new information carefully, her hand resting thoughtfully at her side.

"Wait," she said suddenly, a thought clicking into place. "Sonic… he's trapped here too?"

Shadow's eyes narrowed in mild frustration.

"Yes, somewhere. I don't know where. But if what Naminé said is true, he's still out there. And fighting."

Aqua's breath caught. She stepped closer towards Shadow.

"And she came to you for help?"

"Sort of," Shadow muttered, looking off to the side. "She wanted my emerald."

Aqua blinked in confusion.

"She wanted your emerald? But why?"

Suddenly, a soft voice floated towards them from behind.

"Because it's needed to help Sonic defeat what's coming."

Both Aqua and Shadow turned sharply, their eyes wide.

There, standing just a few feet away, was a blonde haired girl. She stood with delicate stillness, her hands clasped before her, her blue eyes glowing softly with knowledge far beyond her years. Her presence was subtle but profound, like a note struck in perfect resonance.

"…Naminé," Shadow said quietly, his voice a low ripple across the silence.

Aqua's gaze lingered on the girl, her lips parting slightly in a mix of surprise and wariness. There was something ethereal about Naminé, delicate but grounded. Her blonde hair and blue eyes gave her the appearance of a painted memory.

"You're Naminé?" Aqua asked carefully.

The girl nodded, her hands clasped in front of her.

"I am. And you're Aqua. I've heard a great deal about you lately."

Aqua's brow furrowed slightly.

"Comforting," she muttered, though not without suspicion.

"Don't let her charm fool you, Aqua. She is part of the Organization," Shadow interjected, his eyes never leaving the girl.

"You're… one of them?" Aqua asked, voice dipping into unease. "The ones who've taken over Castle Oblivion?"

"I'm not with them," Naminé corrected gently, her tone steady but resolute. "I'm being used. They control Castle Oblivion, yes—but I'm trying to fight back. To help Sonic. To stop the Organization before they go too far."

Aqua studied her a beat longer.

"You want to help Sonic?" she repeated, uncertain. "How?"

"By taking my Chaos Emerald," Shadow said bluntly, arms folding again. "To atone for scrambling our memories."

"You?" Aqua asked, stepping slightly closer, voice sharpening. "You're the one behind the memory shifts?"

Naminé flinched at the accusation but didn't back away. She nodded once, remorse clouding her expression.

"Yes," she admitted. "But I didn't want this. I didn't ask for it. The Organization is using my power, using me, to target people with threads connecting them. Sora. Sonic. You."

"Sora…" Aqua murmured, her voice catching slightly as she pieced it together.

"I'm sorry," Naminé whispered. Her eyes lowered to the white floor beneath them. "It wasn't supposed to go this far."

Aqua's breath trembled in her chest. Shadow's frown deepened, his arms still crossed tightly.

"So Sora really is connected to me," Aqua said, her voice low, more to herself than anyone else.

Naminé didn't answer with words. She simply nodded.

But it was Shadow who spoke again, his tone flat and unmoved.

"This is getting old, Naminé. I told you already, Sonic gets the emerald when I'm done with Black Doom."

"But I sense two emeralds on you," Naminé replied quickly, a note of urgency creeping into her voice. "You're carrying two. You could spare one."

Aqua's head turned sharply towards Shadow.

"Wait… two?"

Shadow sighed and raised both gloved hands, palms open. In his right hand, a familiar yellow Chaos Emerald shimmered in the pale light. But in his left, another glowed nearly identical in hue, though its energy pulsed just a little differently, fainter somehow.

"There are two yellow Chaos Emeralds?" Aqua asked, brow lifting in disbelief.

"No," Shadow said. "Not exactly." He glanced down at the emerald in his left hand. "This one", he held it a bit higher, "is a fake. The one in my right hand is real. The same one Yen Sid gave us back at his tower."

"A fake?" Aqua echoed. She stepped closer, inspecting the emeralds with a mixture of awe and curiosity. "But that's impossible…"

Naminé's eyes widened. She stepped forward slightly, her breath caught in her throat.

"How can there be two?"

Shadow's gaze didn't waver as he answered.

"Thank Tails for that. He made it years ago to trick Eggman. A near perfect replica. He modelled the resonance using scanned data from the originals."

A small smile tugged at his mouth—not amusement, but one of respect.

"Sonic even used it to perform Chaos Control once. To escape an exploding escape pod."

Aqua blinked in confusion.

"Wait, he used Chaos Control… with a fake emerald?"

"Of course, it is not as strong," Shadow admitted, still looking at the two emeralds in his gloved hands. "But in the right hands, at the right moment, it works."

Naminé stepped forward, her voice steady despite the weight of the conversation.

"Could you… perhaps, give me the fake emerald, please?" she asked, her blue eyes searching his red ones. "I could give it to Sonic. And later, we can switch it for the real one?"

Shadow didn't answer immediately. His crimson eyes narrowed, not in hostility, but in scrutiny. He looked deeply at the girl who had, not long ago, claimed responsibility for tampering with their memories. And yet, there was something different about her now. Something quiet. Earnest.

He was silent for another beat before finally speaking up.

"I want assurance," he said flatly.

Naminé tilted her head.

"Assurance?"

"Yes," Shadow confirmed, voice low and unwavering. "I give you the fake Emerald. In return, I want a promise."

She blinked, surprised.

"A promise of what?"

"That you'll help Sonic stop the Organization," Shadow said. "And more importantly, you'll do everything in your power to stop this Terios as well."

"Terios…" Aqua repeated softly, the syllables lingering on her tongue. There was something familiar about it. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to grasp it.

"What does Terios have to do with all of this?" she asked at last, looking down towards Shadow.

Shadow's gaze didn't waver. He didn't even glance at her, his eyes were still locked on Naminé.

"He's the one who started everything," he answered grimly. "He's the reason we're all caught in this trapped realm. The reason time and space are unravelling."

"He is?" Aqua questioned, intrigued.

"Terios has temporal abilities," Shadow continued. "Abilities that shouldn't exist. Black Doom is exploiting them, manipulating their flow to expand his control. He is connected to him somehow."

Aqua's breath caught slightly. Her mind flashed back to earlier, when she'd seen Mephiles. He had mentioned something that played on her mind.

"A connection, Aqua… one that binds me to this new timeline… and one that binds to you too."

Her pulse quickened. That voice, those words, they hadn't been random. They hadn't been metaphor.

"Mephiles…" she muttered under her breath.

Shadow and Naminé both caught it. The hedgehog turned sharply, his voice sharpened with suspicion.

"Mephiles?" he echoed. "Don't tell me he's been lingering around White Space too?"

"Sadly he is," Aqua admitted, nodding slowly. "I saw him earlier."

"Hmph," Shadow exhaled, his jaw tightening. "I knew that fiend wouldn't stay hidden for long."

Naminé's eyes widened slightly, dread stirring behind them.

"That means…"

"It means Mephiles is tied to Terios too," Aqua said, her voice grim now. "They're also connected somehow."

Shadow's glare deepened. His hands flexed at his sides, the faintest flicker of Chaos energy and dark mist pulsing through his gloves.

"So not only do we have Black Doom leeching Terios' abilities," he muttered, "we've also got Mephiles piggybacking on top of that. Tch… pathetic."

Naminé looked between them, the tension weighing heavily in the air.

"And if they're both drawing from Terios," Naminé said quietly, "that means the longer we wait, the more unstable everything becomes."

"Which is why Sonic needs that emerald," Aqua added, her voice laced with concern. "Even if it's a fake. He has to fight back now, before it's too late."

Shadow didn't speak at first. His eyes remained fixed on the glowing fake gem in his left palm. The yellow light flickered faintly, catching in the shadows under his gloves.

"I guess you could say," he muttered, "it's a false sense of hope for Sonic."

There was no mockery in his voice. Just weary realism. The kind that came from someone who'd seen too many battles fought on fractured promises and desperate odds.

"It's better than nothing," Naminé replied gently. "He's about to face Perfect Chaos. If I can deliver the emerald as a peace offering… maybe I can earn his trust. Make up for the memories I damaged."

Aqua's brows drew together.

"Perfect Chaos…?" she echoed, clearly unfamiliar. "That doesn't sound remotely comforting."

"It shouldn't," Shadow said, finally lifting his gaze. "I never fought the creature myself, I was still in stasis when it attacked. But I heard the stories."

He stepped forward, voice steady.

"Station Square… reduced to a flooded ruin. That beast was born from centuries of rage. Negative Chaos energy made real. Sonic only beat it by becoming Super Sonic, thanks to the power of the positive power of the emeralds. Even then, it nearly destroyed everything."

Aqua's lips parted slightly, caught off guard by the gravity in his words.

"So this… Perfect Chaos… it's real. And dangerous."

"Beyond dangerous," Shadow confirmed. "And now, thanks to Terios, it's back. Plucked from its original timeline. Rewritten into this mess."

Naminé's expression darkened as she spoke up.

"Terios has drawn Perfect Chaos into White Space. It's already begun hunting Sonic down."

"Of course he did…" Shadow said dryly, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What's next, Terios pulling me out of the past to fight him too?"

There was a beat of silence.

"…About that," Naminé said carefully.

Shadow's head tilted just slightly. His ears twitched. Then, with a sigh so long it sounded like it came from somewhere deep in his soul, he muttered, "Figures."

Aqua gave Naminé a curious glance.

"So… I take it Sonic stopped the other Shadow then?"

Yes. And he recovered the red Chaos Emerald for his trouble," Naminé confirmed with a nod.

Without another word, Shadow extended his left hand again. The fake Emerald hovered just above his glove—its glow subtle, elegant, and deceptively powerful.

"Take it," he said at last. "The faker won't know it's fake. Hell, even I sometimes get the two mixed up."

Aqua's eyes widened in suprise.

"Wait, the Ultimate Lifeform can't tell the difference between a real Chaos Emerald and a fake one?"

A teasing lilt crept into her voice, the tension briefly broken.

Shadow gave her a sharp look, unamused.

"Tails is a genius," he replied flatly. "Built it to mimic the exact energy signature. Structure, colour… even texture."

Aqua chuckled lightly.

"If you say so."

"I do say so," Shadow shot back, deadpan.

Naminé stepped forward cautiously, her eyes locked on the glowing fake gem. She held out both hands. The moment her fingers touched it, the light pulsed. She held it close to her chest.

"I'll make sure it gets to him," she said softly. "I swear on it."

"See that you do," Shadow murmured, already turning his back. His tone wasn't angry, but it was resolute and final. "Just make sure he survives Perfect Chaos."

He paused, just briefly, casting a glance back over his shoulder.

"It's foolish to face that monster without all seven emeralds. But if anyone can pull it off in their normal form…" Shadow shook his head, the faintest trace of a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, "it's Sonic."

Aqua studied Shadow quietly, her breath easing. That rare glimmer of confidence in the hedgehog's voice was enough to stir a strange calm within her. Even now, even in a reality this fractured and twisted by time, he still believed in Sonic.

And maybe, that belief was the only thing still holding certain pieces together.

"I need to find Sonic quickly," Naminé said, her voice gaining strength. Her expression full of determination. "I won't let you down, Shadow."

"Good," Shadow replied, tone even, but commanding. His back still slightly turned. "Remember your promise. Help Sonic, and put an end to the Organization's plans."

"I will," she said with a nod, almost a vow in motion. "I'll do my best."

"Good luck," Aqua added softly, her voice carrying warmth. Her hand gently touched Naminé's shoulder in support. "And… take care."

"Thank you," Naminé whispered. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry?" Aqua muttered, confusion etched on her face.

Without another word, the girl turned and dashed off into the endless void, the flickering white of the void swallowing her silhouette. Her blonde hair trailed behind her like a ribbon of memory, vanishing into the distance.

Shadow and Aqua stood in silence for a beat longer.

"What did she mean by, "I'm sorry?" Aqua thought to herself, confused. "What else is she hiding?"

Next to her, Shadow turned, glancing down at the real Chaos Emerald still glowing faintly in his gloved palm, its light sharper than before. The power pulsed like a heartbeat. Quiet, but insistent.

Aqua lowered her gaze towards him, her expression sharpening with resolve.

"Come on," she said, stepping forward. "The others need to know what's happening. We've got a lot to discuss."

Shadow nodded once, tight and firm.

"Agreed."

Together, they pivoted towards the time home. The faint hum of its energy beckoned, deep and melodic like some forgotten echo from a distant dream.

Aqua stepped in first, her silver boots clicking softly on the edge before she disappeared into the shimmering fold. Shadow followed without hesitation, the yellow Chaos Emerald still clutched in his right hand.

And then, there was silence.

Their path forward was set.

The Mirror Hallway awaited.

Somewhere in the Depths of White Space...

He walked with slow, deliberate steps. The red fabric of his cloak whispered behind him like a phantom's breath, nearly swallowed by the white void. His face, mostly concealed beneath bandages and belts, remained fixed forward. Only one eye, sharp and gleaming, peered through the red cloth, unblinking.

He paused. Something stirred far beyond the fractured realm of White Space. It was faint, but growing. Like a storm building behind a distant veil.

"…Black Doom," he murmured, his voice low and dry. Not surprised. But wary.

Then another feeling, a spark, small but persistent. Not darkness, not fully.

"Light..." he muttered. "Broken light. Interesting."

It wasn't pure. A Nobody with light? Impossible. He turned slightly, as if trying to peer through the invisible currents of distortion energy.

"Hmph. A contradiction in form," he muttered. "But, perhaps not in purpose?"

He straightened. Another thread tugged at the edge of his thoughts. Familiar. Heavy with guilt and memory. A mind of brilliance, and regret.

"Gerald." His voice dropped to a whisper. "So even you've been drawn into this storm."

The man reached into the air, and space itself responded. A dark corridor twisted open before him. It was silent, patient, and waiting.

He stepped towards it with purpose.

"I must see them. I must see my old friend one more time."

And without another word, he vanished into the darkness.

Another chapter down—and what a chapter it was!

This one leaned heavily into exposition and info-dumps, but all of it was essential. The puzzle pieces are coming together, and the story is rolling forward with purpose once again!

This chapter is officially titled "Reunions - Part 2", following on from the previous chapter, now renamed "Reunions - Part 1". The title change will be reflected shortly.

I hope everyone enjoyed this entry. It was a major connective piece, tying back to past events, deepening character arcs, and linking threads from Sonic's story to the present narrative.

Collisions Aqua (from Collision of Universes by Aragorn II Elessar) referencing the multiversal Spider-Man: No Way Home moment. Now it's three Aquas doing the same. Full circle. Loved writing that.

Shadow and hugs
He still hates them. That hasn't changed. But it's adorable when Aqua forces one on him anyway.

Aqua Variant Breakdown:

Aqua Prime – from Kingdom Hearts: Blue Blur universe.

Casual Aqua – from J . Tom's Infinity War / Endgame Kingdom Hearts storyline.

Collisions Aqua – from Collision of Universes by Aragorn II Elessar.

Huge thanks again to the authors who let me use their variants for this crossover. You all rock.

The Pointing Meme
It was bound to happen. A natural follow-up to the Three Peters moment. Cubot was overjoyed, no one else had a clue what was going on. Peak Cubot.

Naminé's Scene in Her Chamber
This was a reimagined and expanded version of her scene from Chapter 14 of Chain of Generations (Sonic's Story) – Lingering Chaos.

Fake Chaos Emerald
Shadow collected this at the start of the story from the ARK. The lore around it being crafted by Tails, used by Sonic in Sonic Adventure 2 to escape an exploding pod—got some spotlight here. And now we know: the emerald Naminé gives to Sonic after Perfect Chaos… is a fake. How they plan to swap it with the real one remains to be seen.

Connecting to Sonic's Story
This chapter officially begins the crossover momentum with Chain of Generations. The two stories are converging. It's no longer just foreshadowing, this is where things get real.

Terios: Custody Battle Begins
Black Doom and Mephiles are now at odds over Terios—each laying claim to his power and soul. But hints are beginning to reveal that Aqua might be connected to him in ways neither of them fully understand. Big revelations are coming.

Naminé and Aqua – That "I'm sorry" Line
If you know, you know. If you've read Sonic's story, you definitely know. The meaning behind that moment is going to hit hard when it fully unravels (If you haven't read the original)

Mirror Hallway / Mirror Realm
Based on the crossover hub in Sonic Generations where Classic and Modern Sonic first meet. In this universe, it's more than just a space between timelines—it's the threshold to crossover with Lancelot Generations, created by Terrence Johnny Stanford. Everything is starting to connect now.

I've already got the roadmap for the next few chapters, including:

New hubs that need saving

The reveal of the Safe Zone

Shadow and Aqua's next Boss Gates

Remember also, Sonic's story will be getting a rewrite also. But this won't be until much later.

Thank you so much for the continued support, feedback, and reviews. It means a lot, and it's helped get this story rolling again in a big way.

Next up: The Mirror Hallway awaits. Let's see what reflections lie ahead.
